搶救花蓮大作戰?|平日4人房2200含早餐民宿開箱|爆吃爆買15家在地店家嚴格評比

Hello everyone! I’m Dandan, a superficial person who loves being praised. We’re currently in Hualien. I heard recently that there are fewer and fewer tourists in Hualien, so I’m going to see for myself whether the tourist crowds are still large or small. This time, we’ll be visiting the main attractions in Hualien’s city center, including the General’s Mansion. We haven’t been to any cultural and creative attractions yet . It seems there’s a chance of rain in Hualien these days , so this time we’ll do it differently. Before, we rented motorcycles, but this time we’ll rent cars. Let’s set off now and rent cars first. Normally, there are always a bunch of people outside asking if you want to rent a car. Actually, a few people asked just now , but you just ignored them. It’s a habit to ignore them. There are quite a few rental shops nearby. There’s a big sign there . Let’s rent from that one. Hello, thank you ! Just now, the grumpy guy told me that the new attraction in Hualien is the General’s Mansion. I’ve never been there before , so I’m very curious. My first stop is the General’s Mansion. Let’s set off! Am I the only one in the world who doesn’t know ? Yeah! And it’s been open for a year and a half, and you didn’t know? You watching TV, do you know? You know… oh, maybe you don’t! Because it’s not actually that famous, will people criticize me and say: “You country bumpkin, so Japanese style! This looks like the Hinoki Village in Chiayi !” So, this is where we need to park on the side of the road. Yes, find a roadside parking space and get ready to get out! First time here! The dormitory was built in 1936 and then completely renovated, right? Yes , now it has a very high-quality feel! You come to Hualien, where there are beautiful mountains and rivers, and there’s also a Japanese-style park that’s so well-designed. There are many famous shops here , like the fixed-location fish farm that everyone knows about. There ‘s no need to queue ! Really! You know,
I have a very important mission this time because since moving into my new home, I’ve felt that when I travel to different places, I need to buy local souvenirs . For example, in Hualien, there might be peeled chili peppers, right? Buy some local food that can be used in cooking . After buying these souvenirs , I’ll compare them and show them to everyone. You can see how many souvenirs we bought on this trip to Hualien. So many people! Didn’t you say there weren’t any tourists? A lot! Image rights! We can’t take pictures of them. I’m craving some snacks now because I just had breakfast. This shop is called Nekochome, they have ice cream! Hello! Honey-scented black tea, okay! One of these ice creams. Nekochome is decorated very cozyly. Besides the cat decorations, they only sell ice cream and sponge cakes . How is it? What do you think of the taste? Not bad. Ninjao’s is more expensive , but you have to share with two people (the first one is NT$80, the second one is half price). I think it doesn’t have a chemical taste and isn’t too sweet. I’m looking forward to the sponge cake later. The sponge cake smells very good. It has a cat paw shape on top. The sponge cake part is very moist , but since I ate it right after it came out of the oven, I suggest you eat it. Don’t leave it for too long after you buy it. I like the first shop so much that I can’t wait to try the next one. This is the first time I’ve seen this . How is that possible? I see it all the time in so many souvenir shops . Are you pretending not to know? When I go to Hualien, I usually buy mochi. Shouldn’t Hualien’s specialty be mochi? So what is Hualien County Cake? I was so curious, I went in to see if anyone was reciting sponsored content. I had no idea about this shop before (completely ignoring the grumpy guy). So I asked the staff if they had a brand story, why it’s called Hualien County Cake, and that they wanted tourists to enjoy desserts made with local Hualien ingredients . Their original product is called Bodhi Crisp. Now, let’s try it and see what it tastes like . What’s special about this shop is that they offer freshly baked cakes. You usually buy pre-packaged products like this at souvenir shops , but this branch in General’s Mansion offers freshly baked Bodhi cakes. This is my first time trying this! It’s a bit like Hualien sweet potato baked on the outside with mochi inside. Because it’s not very sweet and has a milky flavor, it’s very smooth . The grumpy guy is currently eating the matcha flavor. What do you think ? It ‘s not my cup of tea. Can I tell the truth? Sure, are you afraid of offending the county magistrate? Hahaha, they’ve all been arrested . No, this isn’t opened by the county magistrate. It’s not quite what I imagined . What did you expect? Is it mochi? Yes! Is it? Or maybe I didn’t bite into it? Yes, yes, yes, yes, there’s mochi in it ! If there’s mochi in it, it seems alright. So you just took too small a bite . You need to bite into the mochi to feel it’s just right! You really need to taste the mochi. Adding some pine nuts enhances the texture. I think the person who receives this as a gift will be quite happy. We just opened it to show you all three flavors. Yes, yes, it won the Gold Award for Top 100 Souvenirs this year, and it just won the 2025 award. Since we came here to buy local souvenirs, this is one of the souvenirs I can bring back. And this Five Elements Pastry, we just saw it. You open it and try it. I think this is more to my liking. Show it to the camera! But you’ve already taken a bite! Still haven’t taken a bite ? Is it your type? It’s alright! It has quite a lot of nuts , um, eat more! I’ve decided today’s champion is the taro-flavored Bodhi cake. This shop seems to specialize in souvenirs; the name is a bit straightforward. ( I like to collect folk art. ) Hello! Besides souvenirs , this shop actually has a very cute afternoon tea set. This shop makes its own Sachima. The one I just ate was softer , but this one is crispy. They also make rice-flavored Sachima . I just asked the owner, and she said they use local Hualien rice. Now I’ll try the crispy Sachima. What does it taste like? Wow, the sound is so crisp! Can you hear it? It’s so crispy! Try the seaweed flavor ! You can record ASMR ! It’s super crispy! I can hear the sound right here. This is the crispiest Sachima I’ve ever eaten in my life. It has no rancid taste, the texture is very crisp, and the sweetness isn’t too high . Now I’ll try this rice aroma , it’s also very crispy! Hey, sullen guy, I’m telling you, buy it! This one , I’ll eat it all, no problem. And the rice aroma isn’t fried, right? They make the rice aroma using a special method , like baby rice cakes. It’s not fried, so the calories are lower. The afternoon tea set is 89 yuan , plus a cup of tea. Remember this shop, go straight to General’s Mansion , it’s on D2. We can figure out which flavor to buy. After browsing the souvenir shop next door, we found another one , and this one seems to have quite a lot on display. Now let’s go in and take a look. This shop seems to sell more handmade items. Oh, that soy sauce is where we’re going to do DIY, it looks very high-quality. The price is not bad. Let’s try it tomorrow and then decide whether to buy it . Hmm, this millet wine is sparkling! Want some? 230 yuan? I’m shocked! Don’t make it too expensive! It has its due value, but we still need to consider our budget when buying souvenirs. I’ll keep an eye on the prices for everyone. Wow, this is a fragrance section! There’s a really nice scent right here . My friend bought one for me , do you like it? It ‘s pretty good. Did you know it was from Hualien? I didn’t know! I had no idea! Anyway, I think most of these are from Hualien . Yes, it’s called Liwu! Liwu Creek has a really high-quality feel! It smells quite nice. Are you going to wear this flashy dress? It’s so pretty! If you come to the General’s Mansion area and don’t know where to buy souvenirs, these two shops are connected. You can buy everything at once after visiting both . I think the items in this shop are really high-quality , although the prices might not be the most affordable. Okay! We’re about to buy souvenirs, so are we leaving now? No,
because I just went to their restroom , and the soap there was from this shop. It had a heart-shaped label that said “Free Soap to Use,” and it smelled amazing! They’re so good at business! I was just trying it out and was about to leave! I was lured here again after using the restroom! And the texture is so nice. My hands are so moisturized after washing them. I have to buy it! I have to take a look. This kind of soap is called cold process soap. It’s made by saponifying oil and alkali at room temperature for two to three months. It takes a long time , but it’s the only way to retain the moisturizing ingredient, glycerin. The cleansing power can be controlled, making it perfect for washing your face and body. This one costs 520 yuan. I need to get out of here quickly . I can’t stay any longer. It’s too dangerous! Even before I leave, it attracts me. I’ve already spent several thousand yuan here . If I buy anything else, I’ll have to cut off my hands ! I have to run away quickly! But we still have a lot of souvenir shops to visit. This project is too expensive. The souvenirs here exceeded my expectations because they emphasize local connections. I ‘m a bit tired of shopping now, so I think we should have lunch. This curry place that the “Grumpy Guy” ate before is pretty good. It’s quite famous in Hualien . It used to be in another place, but now it’s moved here to Jiangjunfu. I’ve never actually eaten here before , but I’m quite curious because I’m a curry slave. Now I’ll try the fried pork chop that the “Grumpy Guy” ordered with his curry . So here , you can dip it in this green curry sauce. There’s not much sauce, so its curry is the kind where you take a bite and then eat a bite of rice . It’s not like you can mix it all together. There’s not much sauce . Its green curry is so fragrant. It’s a rather thick green curry. This is the first time I’ve eaten curry here. I feel like I’ve struck gold. The price isn’t cheap. It’s never been cheap before. What kind of curry do you all eat? But I personally don’t like mixing curry together, it just looks like… yeah, as you all know, I’m going to try this mahi-mahi fish now. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the dipping sauce it comes with is my favorite Thai seafood dipping sauce . This seafood dipping sauce is great for dipping fish, crab, and shrimp. It ‘s especially good for fried seafood and can cut through the grease . Look at this fish , the meat is very tender, and it’s fried to just the right doneness . It ‘s not dry at all and it’s very juicy. Most importantly, this seafood sauce can really enhance the seafood, so it tastes so refreshing. Please, you have to order it! I bought two bags of souvenirs. Finally, we will do a total evaluation of all the souvenirs we photographed. Is this an industrial area? Huilan Sauce Man, this doesn’t look like a souvenir shop . Or is this someone’s office? Nobody here . Moshimoshi (incorrect usage) Peeled chili peppers. They have a lot of mouths. Oh, it received a gold medal from the Hualien County Magistrate . But that’s not really relevant; it’s about understanding what kind of award it is. They say that in eastern Taiwan, peeled peppers are usually served plain with tea oil and millet wine. The flavor of these peeled peppers is perfect for making chicken with rice wine . If you want to enjoy them with alcohol, since Hualien’s Ruisui area produces pomelos , they use pomelo peel to make the peeled peppers, so they have a slightly pomelo peel aroma . The spiciness is divided into 5 levels , with the overall spiciness around level two. The spiciness increases towards the end. If you ‘re someone who’s unsure about proportions when making soup, this is a lifesaver! Just buy this large jar; it can make enough chicken soup for about four people. You don’t have to worry about seasoning. Next up is the spiciness king, called “Heavenly Sauce” because it uses extremely spicy bird’s eye chilies. What should we buy? You absolutely must buy the peeled chili peppers! And the ginseng and goji berry peeled health soup. If you’re lazy, you can probably just buy those. After you buy them, swipe your vehicle card first. You swipe a card there, right? Yes, you need to swipe a card, right? Yes! Hahaha, I just learned that they actually only have two stores. This is their main store. You can only see all their products here because they have such a complete selection. They said that 70% of their peeled chili peppers are made by them. GO GO GO! When you go to Hualien, you must try this Hualien sweet potato. Usually, no matter where you go in Hualien, everyone sells Hualien sweet potatoes. I think this store has a very good overall image. It doesn’t feel like they’re selling wholesale factory goods. It has a sense of serious research and development. This dessert, Hualien sweet potato, was introduced to Taiwan during the Japanese occupation. But because it originally had a thin layer of flour on the outside, if you leave it for a long time, the flour will dry out. Even if you freeze it, it will dry out, and the taste won’t be as good. But now, after their improvement, they only brush it with egg wash and bake it. It’s completely made of sweet potato. You can put it directly in the freezer and then thaw it without affecting the taste. Now I want to try it. We just invited him… Please cut the product open for us so it’s easier to take pictures. Let’s look at the cross-section. You can see from the cross-section that it’s really … Wait… Is the noise too loud? Let’s wait for the plane to take off, haha. Their sweet potatoes come from the local area, right? It’s from Xincheng in the north . This store emphasizes that they try to use ingredients produced locally in Hualien because they hope their products can help local farmers. Let me try it. It has a very pure sweet potato flavor , and a light fragrance . Also, this one is quite solid ; it’s taro paste. It ‘s a bit smaller in appearance because the weight is the same, but you can see the cross-section. The taro paste flavor is very solid, without any air. It’s like eating frozen taro. If you had to choose one of the three, which would you pick? It’s a purple sweet potato flavor , but if you finish the regular sweet potato flavor, I don’t think I’m being convincing. I just grabbed a handful, and I think the purple sweet potato and the original sweet potato flavors are very close in quality. But Dandan is a big fan of sweet potatoes, you know how slaves I am to them? Now I’m going to try this innovative flavor. There’s a packet of mochi in it. I asked the staff if I put the mochi in the freezer or something , wouldn’t it get hard? They said it’s specially seasoned so the mochi won’t get too hard even if you leave it out for a while, it won’t affect the texture. It can also be frozen and thawed. Hmm… (delicious moan) I think the mochi adds a lot to this, the texture is very rich, I think it’s more interesting to eat. But if you want to eat this… As a sweet potato lover, I prefer the pure taste of Hualien sweet potatoes . My family likes this shop quite a bit , so I sometimes buy it for them. There are other souvenir shops nearby, let’s go check out some other souvenirs and then decide what to buy. Hmm, there’s another shop next door, this is Pomelo Fuxing. I just asked, and it seems that pomelo is produced in Ruisui. The owner of this shop wanted to reduce the losses of farmers, so he thought, “Let me develop a product and see.” As a result, he succeeded in developing this pomelo-flavored Hualien sweet potato . I just saw this pomelo cake, its shape looks a lot like a mooncake. Let’s try it now and see what it tastes like if pomelo is used to make desserts. Let’s try the pomelo pastry . Hmm~~ (delicious moan) I like it! I like it so much! The strong aroma of pomelo fills your entire mouth, so compared to pineapple cake, whichever you prefer, I’d like it. But the pineapple cake has to be a traditional pineapple cake; regular pineapple cakes can’t compete with this. Now let’s eat this one that looks like a mooncake. Actually, it’s just the outer crust of a mooncake. Let me try it. This mooncake … Hmm, I’m someone who really dislikes mooncakes, but I think I can eat this one, haha . I think using pomelo as a filling is a brilliant idea. Yes, because pomelo peel is very refreshing and has a slightly bitter taste , which reduces the sweetness. It’s also perfect with tea. Actually, I think if you’re tired of mooncakes for the Mid-Autumn Festival, you can buy this. I’m curious what would happen if you added a salted egg yolk. I think I could try it and see if it turns into a hellish dish. I’ll buy it and try it myself . If I succeed, I’ll have to charge a royalty fee, right? There’s a pomelo ball here. This thing looks like a jelly. I think the ready-made jelly has a mushy texture, and I don’t like it that much. This one feels very chewy! I heard that to keep it chilled without affecting the texture, they use potatoes as the main ingredient . Potato mochi is really chewy! It’s even chewier than rice cake ! And as everyone knows, pomelo peel can be used to extract essential oils, so they make many byproducts after extracting the oil, like dish soap and hand soap. Most importantly, the essential oil —this pure pomelo essential oil— is 100% sourced from Hualien. 10ml sells for NT $ 380. If you buy it and put it in a misting machine, your whole house will be filled with a fruity fragrance , and it also has a natural insect-repelling effect. This is probably what I want to buy most because I think citrus fruits are quite suitable for aromatherapy . That’s right! Now let’s go see the next place. We’ve already eaten at two! I’m at the third shop now, and I’ve looked at all the souvenirs in one go. This place sells pineapple cakes. Does Hualien grow pineapples? I heard Hualien does . This shop says it’s made with Hualien pineapples , and apparently, they’ve won a championship. Their “Golden Diamond” pineapple cakes are less sweet than traditional pineapple cakes because they don’t have as much winter melon sauce. Actually, I think since Hualien has many international tourists, pineapple cakes are a very representative souvenir of Taiwan. So I think there’s nothing wrong with them making pineapple cakes in Hualien. It makes sense, and they use local ingredients. Want to try it ? It’s sour, right? I don’t actually like sour pineapple cakes that much , but they emphasized that their pineapple ratio is higher. You can see it clearly in the cross-section . The pineapple has a more delicate, stringy texture . The outer crust is a bit more crumbly . I think the butter is pretty good. Is it dry? Hmm, no, but I like sour things, so wait a minute, you take care of this one, oh okay, I’m going to try the sour one , haha. Pineapple cakes are definitely meant to be eaten with the pineapple flavor! I sincerely recommend everyone not to be afraid of sourness, okay? But your acid tolerance is higher than most people’s. You can eat lemons directly. That was when I was pregnant . Now I’m almost due. Sour for a boy, spicy for a girl. So let’s eat the most out-of-place thing here : cookies? However, it also uses local ingredients, right? Its principle is to use local ingredients to make products for consumers. Have you noticed that souvenir shops in Hualien seem to emphasize this point ? Almost every shop does. They are very proud of their local agricultural products and hope that travelers can taste the local flavor when they buy souvenirs here. As for this cookie, I just read its description. The original flavor is made with sea salt from Qixingtan and combined with a bit of cheese. Let me try it. Hmm, does it have a sea salt taste? It’s salty and sweet. Is the texture melt-in-your-mouth or more melt-in-your-mouth? Oh , this one is made with Hualien honey-scented black tea. Let me try it. The black tea flavor is relatively mild, so it definitely doesn’t have any artificial flavorings. Hmm, natural. If I had to choose one of the three flavors… it’s so hard! Okay ! I don’t need to buy this . No, no! I can’t think of anything, I can’t figure it out. If you like cookies but don’t want them too oily, this is the version you want. You can try it. Hmm, maybe it’s because of this special feature that it won the award in Japan. I think we’ve bought enough souvenirs. You’ll know what I bought when it’s time for the evaluation. Oh… Mr. Li really knows how to buy things , haha. That sounds so familiar, haha. The camera was about to run out of power, but I forgot to turn on the microphone. Really? It’s okay, it can still pick up some sound. This guesthouse feels like we’ve booked the whole place, so please come and support our weekday Hualien tour! Okay , let’s go back to our rooms and rest for a bit before heading out again. Hualien Breathing Guesthouse is like a friend’s house. The exterior looks low-key, but the rooms are full of the owner’s personal touch. It’s perfect for a relaxing trip. Come with me and see what the rooms are like. It’s been so long since I’ve stayed in a place that feels so homey, like spending the night at someone else’s house. The owner is very interesting. As soon as we came in, he proudly told us that everything we saw in the house, including the lights and water pipes, was done by himself. So this house has a lot of… This house features many ingenious designs not commonly found in ordinary homes. As he just mentioned, the TV has wireless streaming projection, which is even better than many hotels. It also has Bluetooth speakers ; press this button to hear it – it connects directly via Bluetooth. There’s also a huge Wi-Fi hotspot outside, available on every floor. Whatever cables or connectors you need, it has them all. This is a universal adapter, so foreign tourists won’t have any problems. There’s another clever feature here too – besides the bedside table, there are tons of sockets. And this lamp is entirely his own design. He even provided a high-wattage USB socket with eight prongs, capable of holding up to 65 watts ! And he’s not just providing it for you ! I’ve already given it to you. Whether it works well or not is your business. They provided a good standard size and plenty of outlets . Yes, they’ve also thought of this area. This is actually a luggage rack. The bathroom has a clever design. This is for your change of clothes. They have their own blended shampoo and shower gel. The things they provide are pretty good. This room can accommodate 4 people. If it were you, how much would you pay for a room like this for 4 people? Breakfast is included! And the breakfast is specially prepared by the landlady. She just said our breakfast is amazing. Didn’t you Google it beforehand? She just said you’d regret not eating it and wouldn’t know until tomorrow. So, even before we’ve had breakfast yet , breakfast is included ! How much would you be willing to spend to stay in this room? 3,000 NTD for 4 people, I think. I just checked, and it ‘s only 2,200 NTD on weekdays! Wow, that’s pretty good. So, splitting it up , it’s probably around 500 NTD per person. Or is it because there are fewer tourists recently that the price has dropped? Maybe . This guesthouse is called Breathing Guesthouse . We’ll go out to find some food tonight . See you later! Hey~ I’m Dan Dan, a superficial person who likes to be praised. I accidentally said this slogan again. Why did I say it? It’s not in the middle, is it? Because this feels like the beginning. We’re in Hualien, and we were supposed to see all the famous tourist attractions, right? Everyone knows what a famous tourist attraction in Hualien is ! Hey hey, Dongdaemun Night Market, that’s right! Now we’re about to reveal the truth. Everyone says Hualien has no tourists , let’s see if it’s any good or not , if it’s really that bad. Uh, it seems there are really very few people. Ahhhhh (bitter smile) There are people , but not many. The stalls here are extremely similar. Hey, there’s absolutely no one here. And this whole row is closed off. But I think this night market is actually quite well planned. Look, there’s a really impressive large trash can here . It was there before , but actually, I think it sells a lot of things. You can find whatever you want to eat here. But the things they sell here… I don’t feel that way at all! In Hualien, there’s nothing I absolutely have to eat, nothing I can only find here . There’s practically no one! So, everyone says Hualien has almost no tourists now , it’s really quite sad. We’ve been here on weekdays before, and it wasn’t this bad. I think we can’t find dinner here tonight
, so we need to find somewhere else . I want to take you to a family-run restaurant that I always have to eat at every time I’m in Hualien. Let ‘s drive to our next destination! Let’s go! Look at this empty parking lot. You can tell there are very few cars when we parked, so you can imagine how few people are inside . And just now we were talking about… Ahhh,
It seems there aren’t many people here. why are there so few people ? YouTube these days really loves to fake it! Hehe, are you excited? I’m okay! Hello? Every time I’m in Hualien , I have to eat at this family-run restaurant. The chef and owner seems to be Japanese because I love Japanese-style ginger-grilled pork . Their ginger-grilled pork is super delicious , really super delicious ! I quite like their hamburger steak. How delicious is it? You’ll see in the video ! Okay! Now I have to confess that my favorite dish from this restaurant used to be the ginger-flavored BBQ pork , but this time it was a letdown because it changed to onion-flavored BBQ pork, and the amount of onions was way too much. So if I come back to this restaurant in the future , my first choice will probably be the miso- flavored BBQ pork. The miso-flavored BBQ pork was just perfect this time. My second choice would probably be their pork burger patty with a cheese filling. The one that the guy with the grumpy face just ordered was really delicious. As for the sauce-flavored BBQ pork, I’ll come back to order it again when the amount of onions goes back to what it used to be. I felt that the meat was… loose and there were too many onions this time, so I could only eat a few slices of meat before it was gone. So if you can only order one thing , just order the miso-flavored BBQ pork . It’s awesome! At our next shop, someone insisted on keeping a distance from me. Why? Because it makes their face look smaller , and it prevents them from having a double chin. Otherwise, I can edit their face in post-production so that it still looks bigger than mine in the background. They always have a double chin on camera. We ‘ll have to talk like this from now on. We came out at 11 pm. Why? Because the owner recommended a traditional noodle stall nearby that’s within walking distance . She said she thinks this is the best in Hualien! Come on, let’s find the best dry noodles in Hualien! But the point is, we haven’t tried any other dry noodles in Hualien. It’s okay if we compare like this, we’ll find another one. We’ll try another one, the one recommended by the owner of that souvenir shop. We asked about another one, and we want to put them to the test because the two shops are nearby . One shop is open in the morning, and this one is open late at night. We’ll start with contestant number 1, this one that claims to be the best noodle shop in all of Hualien. Let’s see what time they close. It seems to be open until 2 AM , but I don’t know what time they start opening. And it seems like there are still a lot of people eating here late at night. There are so many customers! And this isn’t actually in Hualien city proper, it’s in Ji’an. I saw some customer reviews saying that the fried tofu is the best part because it’s only 10 NTD and such a big piece ! Hey jerk, you just tried it, what do you think? Not bad, is it flavorful? I’ll try it, it’s quite moist . Hmm, it’s not really fried tofu! It’s probably just tofu, right? Then, it’s quite tender, and the taste is very refreshing, you could say… it’s tasteless. Let me try the braised pork rice. Everyone says you absolutely must order it. The rice is dry, so you don’t have to worry about it getting soggy after the sauce is poured on. It ‘s more of a northern flavor , so it’s quite salty . If you like the southern sweet and salty flavor, this isn’t for you. Now, let me try the dry noodles . They’re so chewy! The noodles are really impressive . There’s plenty of garlic, so it’s quite delicious . I think this bowl would be even better with some chili. Let’s see. I’ve got some chili oil now. Let’s mix it up and see how much it improves. I can smell the chili aroma! I recommend adding three spoonfuls of chili oil directly. The noodles are amazing; I think they beat many street vendor noodles because many street vendor noodles are mushy and mushy . I really can’t stand it. I hate eating dry noodles the most when I encounter a situation where they say they’re dry noodles , but when you flip them over, it’s all water underneath . I can’t tell if it’s dry noodles or soup noodles. This one has almost no moisture, which really adds a lot to its appeal. Highly recommended! What’s it called? The guesthouse owner, who runs a guesthouse in Hualien, said it’s the best noodle shop in all of Hualien called Taitungren Noodle Shop. We’re heading back to the guesthouse to sleep now. Just finished paying the bill, grumpy guy , guess how much this whole table of food cost? I heard the price, you heard it? Yeah, I was stunned! I estimated it would cost around 300-335 NTD, which is pretty crazy. Now I can finally go back to sleep peacefully. I think the guesthouse owner recommended it, and it’s definitely pretty good. Even if it’s not the best dry noodles in Hualien, it’s probably among the top. But we just had the plain dry noodles; we didn’t try the oily ones . Remember to add chili! Without chili, I think it’s much less delicious. Goodnight! The next morning, remember to get up and enjoy the guesthouse owner’s proud homemade breakfast: a fruit platter with over ten kinds of fruit, delicious toast, rice balls, and soft-boiled eggs. It’s not only nutritionally balanced but also really tasty ! If you want bananas, you can peel them yourself! Banana trees grew from their ceiling, and while having breakfast , you could enjoy the beautiful scenery of Hualien that the owners were photographing. It was really beautiful; I watched it on a loop. I’ve been watching for two days and I’m not tired of it. If you’re lucky, their adorable cats will even jump on you and ask for a hug— so cute! So, where are we going today? A soy sauce factory, I guess? Because I want to buy some local ingredients or cooking supplies, and I found a soy sauce factory in Ji’an Township where you can experience DIY soy sauce making. Did you know that it takes 365 days of sun-drying to make a single bottle of soy sauce? Today, I’m taking you to the famous Yipin Chun handmade soy sauce from Hualien . The ingredients are only soybeans, wheat, salt, and sugar— no caramel color, no chemical flavor. The whole bottle is made with the aroma of sun-drying. The master steams the soybeans, mixes them with yeast, puts them into earthenware jars, and then puts them in the yard to sun-dry for a whole year . Now look at this 5-year-old soy sauce vat! Oh, it’s so dark! All I can see is that it’s very dark. The aroma is incredibly rich and mellow. This is the first time I’ve ever smelled this kind of aroma. The soy sauces I’ve eaten before were all pretty average. Most consumers only eat regular, quick-made soy sauce , which doesn’t taste very fragrant. And the store even has a super fun DIY soy sauce scallop baking session! The aroma is so enticing, I’m already hungry right here at the door! I’m holding this DIY soy sauce baking kit now , with scallop ingredients and a bag of seaweed . The charcoal grill is already set up. I think I’ve managed to bake up that soy sauce aroma! Hey, can everyone see what this character is? Let’s reveal it ! Can you see it? Dan! Barely passable , hahaha. This is a double-layer seaweed burger made from the seaweed I grilled. Oh, Yipin Chun’s family heirloom soy sauce is for dipping dumplings, and their gourmet soy sauce is for braising and stir-frying meat. They also have a super precious five-year black gold soy sauce. When you come to Hualien, you really have to try it. You’ll understand why this soy sauce has become my new favorite. Our last stop in Hualien is Ji’an Qingxiu Temple. I think the most important attractions in Hualien are Ji’an Qingxiu Temple, General’s Mansion, and Dongmenkou Night Market. Before entering Ji’an Qingxiu Temple, there ‘s a place next to it that sells the world’s best Ma Gao sausage. I’m going to try it now and see which is better, this or my favorite Wulai Ma Gao sausage. This is my first time eating it. Let’s go buy some. Madam, we want two Ma Gao sausages. Is that 100 yuan? Thank you! Maqaw is a spice used by indigenous people. Our family’s maqaw can be eaten raw. I want to try it. Maqaw , um, you try it. It looks like pepper but doesn’t taste like pepper. It’s all about the aroma . The taste is very different. Hey , this feels quite novel. The landlady just told me to be careful because the broth might splatter. Oh, it ‘s quite big and very hot. Oh, has it beaten Wu Lai? I’m going to betray Wu Lai! Oh, this… let me tell you, eating this macadamia nut while eating the sausage gives you two different textures . The sausage is crisp and meaty, while the macadamia nut is firm and crunchy. The texture is really unique , and it instantly bursts with lemon aroma. It’s quite different from just putting the macadamia nut inside the sausage. You should try it, it’s really great. It’s sweeter than the oolong sausage. I prefer the combination here. It’s very special . It’s like having an extra lemon flavor. Originally , if you just ate it alone, it would be the best sausage in Taiwan , but now, combined with the other ingredients, it’s the best sausage in the world. It’s a huge plus . Compared to the garlic, it has an extra special flavor and aroma. Not only is the texture upgraded, but the aroma is also upgraded. It ‘s amazing. It has a very fresh feeling, and the oiliness completely disappears. It’s a cosmic bomb! When you come to Ji’an Qingxiu Temple, you must not only see the Japanese historical sites but also try this sausage. I think it’s more worthwhile. Even if there’s a queue, you must try it, right? I’ll secretly tell you that there’s no one in Hualien right now, so you don’t have to queue. We just came and ate it directly. You can also order wild boar meat! This wild boar meat is even better than the one I had in Wulai. I was surprised ! So, is this place called… Ji’an Ma Gao Sausage ? Keishuin Ma Gao Sausage is amazing! It’s probably the best sausage I’ve ever eaten in my life. It has no rivals , and the owner is very good at controlling the heat. I just watched her grill it over there; she was very agile , flipping it over and over and over , and the juices didn’t leak out . The browning and cooking were just right. Yes, thank you, it’s very beautiful. Before the General’s Mansion was built , when I came to Hualien, I sometimes missed Japan. Visiting Keishuin in Ji’an, Hualien, is just the way to go. It’s truly full of Japanese atmosphere. When you enter, you can see stone lanterns like those you see when visiting gardens in Kyoto. This is the Keishuin Buddhist Hall, where they worship. And this is a genuine historical site left by the Japanese , not a fake. Some people might say, “I’d rather travel abroad! Domestic travel is so expensive! ” Well, let me tell you a secret: the cheapest place to travel in Taiwan right now is Hualien! And the accommodation is incredibly cheap too! That’s because… Even cheap hotels are hard to find, so when we travel, quality is paramount. These hotels are all operating well , but the prices can be reduced to 50% or even 60% off . Now you can eat anywhere without queuing. Hualien always gives me a chill feeling because it’s close to the mountains and the sea. You feel like you’re recharging whenever you’re here. Now let’s walk in and look at this corridor. You can see so many Buddha statues. Could they all be from Japan? Maybe some YouTubers will just read Wikipedia on their phones. I suggest you just Google “Jianqing Monastery .” I won’t read it. I just wanted to give you a pseudo-overseas feel. And these are some really beautiful amulet-shaped tickets. It actually has a smart guide! It’s not just beautifully designed; you can scan a QR code on the back to access the guide in Chinese, English, and Japanese. And the entrance fee is only 30 yuan —very affordable! Just taking tons of photos inside was worth it . Every part of it is exquisitely crafted. It even has goshuin stamps— Japanese Buddhist temples and shrines all seem to have goshuin stamps to collect. This one looks like it’s from Shikoku. Could it be the temples along the Shikoku Pilgrimage route? Because it’s all Shikoku ! So, does it mean that if you walk through all of them, it collects all the Shikoku Pilgrimage information at once ? Yes, look below, here it is! This is the Shikoku Pilgrimage to Japan. There’s a monk named Kobo Daishi who spread Buddhism to Japan. This is the route he took, the temples he passed along the way. Following this route, some people might feel they’re getting closer to Kobo Daishi and accumulating merit. What kind of wish do you want to make? Would you wish everyone peace and prosperity? Or would you wish for great wealth ? Okay , now we’re back in Hualien city and looking for food. We’re about to turn around and go to that Southeast Asian restaurant recommended by our guesthouse owner. Let’s try it. It looks newly opened. Does the guesthouse owner eat at every new restaurant that opens in Hualien ? She said the Laksa is good, and the Hainanese chicken… The food looks good, let’s go in and try it now. We’re very particular about Laksa. The noodles are here, I’ll try the soup right away. I can tell from the taste. The Bak Kut Teh looks pretty serious, it even has a stove. Hmm, I’m quite surprised , after all, this shop looks very… simple, and it sells a lot of Southeast Asian things, so I didn’t have any expectations. But the soup of this Laksa is okay. Its coconut milk flavor is a little stronger than that of the famous Prima Taste instant noodles in Singapore, and the taste is quite similar. Bak Kut Teh is my favorite Malaysian flavor, not Singaporean flavor. What are you laughing at ? Why are you laughing so awkwardly? Because we’re going to open the event , but the two owners are staring at us like hawks, so I don’t know what to do. This tofu pudding shop is the one we bought souvenirs from . Which souvenir shop did the owner recommend ? Soy Sauce , Soy Sauce. The owner recommended it. His shop is super far from here. Yeah, I think it’s super far too. He probably has to drive for more than 20 minutes to get tofu pudding . Let’s go in and try it now. I love tofu pudding, how about it? Let me tell you, out of 10, I’d give it a 9. The 1 point difference is… well, if it included the shaved ice , I’d give it a perfect score ! The tofu pudding was delicious! Normally, dense tofu pudding doesn’t melt in your mouth, right? But this one melts like a gentle spring of sweetness , and you just swallow it. There’s no strong bean taste; it ‘s very refreshing. The sweetness is just right, and the peanuts are cooked perfectly. I highly recommend ordering the mixed flavor. The tapioca pearls are so chewy! I think if the tapioca pearls are chewy, it’s already half the battle won. I just asked, and they’ve been open for 47 years! Both owners are very good-looking; their genes must be excellent. Even with masks on , you can tell they have very delicate features—small faces and well-defined features . Anyway, what’s this place called? Zhongyi Tofu Pudding. I think it’s definitely worth driving all the way here. Now we’re going back to sleep. The journey is finally coming to an end. Now we’re going to reveal what souvenirs we bought, starting from our first stop. This was bought at the General’s Mansion. Oh, okay! This is Hualien County cake ! !!! My pupils are dilating ! It hurts so much! Bruised! Okay… Hualien County Pastry Creamy Shortbread, that grumpy guy told me it’s really delicious! I ate all the Bodhi Shortbread. Next up, I highly recommend everyone try this rice-flavored pastry. Why? Because they also have a product called Sachima. Sachima is fried, and this is my favorite snack I’ve had recently. I really think if you go to Hualien , don’t miss this! Sachima is actually very delicious, and its texture is very fragrant and crispy. Because it’s fried, it ‘s especially delicious if you’re someone who doesn’t gain weight. The third store is Shan Hai Department Store. They have a lot of things, so we picked out a few items. I saw this cute Hermes-shaped tea bag with three tea bags inside , which is perfect for a gift. Chihko Tea Garden. Then I bought a pair of long socks with indigenous totem designs. The socks weren’t cheap, costing over 200 yuan. For people getting married soon, you can go and see if they can be used as wedding favors because I think they’re really perfect. Next up, this… I bought a shampoo and a body wash, and the scent is incredibly strong. I think the essential oils they use are twice as concentrated as other brands. You can smell the fragrance even in the bag . Dan Dan ( my friend) actually uses this soap regularly. Although it costs 280-300 NTD, which is about the same price as outside , I think it’s a great deal because it has twice the concentration of essential oils. Next, I left the General’s Mansion. My feet hurt a bit, and I couldn’t walk much. There are three shops on Hualien Sweet Potato Road: Pineapple Bay, Hualien Sweet Potato Road, and Wendan Fuxing. This is my favorite Hualien mochi. The mochi inside is specially made so that even if you freeze it, the texture won’t harden. Next is the pomelo cake! It has a mooncake-like outer layer and a filling similar to pineapple cake , but it’s pomelo flavored . Another one is pomelo glutinous rice balls. I didn’t expect them to be so chewy. I was really looking forward to it. They told me that it tastes great when you take it home and freeze it . Then there’s a mixed pineapple cake. There’s a local pineapple cake and a golden diamond pineapple cake. With these things, I can make coffee at home from now on. You can see I’m getting more and more smug. There’s also an essential oil made from pomelo that I insisted on buying because it’s 100% pure . The scent is so strong! This is a natural mosquito repellent that can be put in an anhydrous fragrance or in a misting machine. Next! The Yipin Chun soy sauce we’re doing today is the one we bought for our DIY project. We bought one large and one small gift set. One set is called “Gourmet’s Choice” and the other “Family Heirloom. ” I remember the “Family Heirloom” is suitable for dipping, while the “Gourmet’s Choice” is suitable for braising. Its ingredient list is very clean. I’ll teach you how to distinguish between brewed soy sauce and unnatural soy sauce. You can check it yourself to see if your soy sauce is up to standard and if you feel safe eating it. If it’s soy sauce in a plastic bottle , you should be careful. Next, we bought two large and two small bottles of Huilan soy sauce. The radish and dried fish flavor is the best-selling flavor. The large bottle is for making ginseng chicken soup. The small bottle has pomelo flavor and millet wine flavor. The millet wine flavor is for making braised chicken. That’s all for our project. This video features all the souvenirs we’ve bought. We’ve introduced so many souvenirs to give you a reference. If you’re in Hualien and don’t know what to buy, you can refer to this episode. In the past, when people went to Hualien, they might have just bought some mochi and Hualien sweet potatoes in front of the station and left. But actually, Hualien has so many more souvenirs , and so many brands all emphasize one thing, right ? Their products are related to Hualien’s local culture. So I think these Hualien manufacturers must really love Hualien to have established themselves here. That’s all for this video. If you liked it, please like, subscribe, and share! Next time, follow Dan Dan on her adventures of eating , drinking, and having fun! Bye- bye! Okay , time to go all in? Are we going to open them all and eat them ?! That brown sugar was so delicious! Now, what flavor is garlic? I want to eat it! I want to eat it ! Oh , it ‘s all packaged in small packets inside, so you don’t have to worry about it getting soggy if you can’t finish it. Just buy it with peace of mind. The garlic flavor tastes like a deluxe version of “Science Noodles” or “Prince Noodles.” Does that sound cheap ? No, haha. Okay, because we’re short on time , we’ll have to get it to go. Here it comes ! This noodle shop was recommended by the owner of a souvenir shop. He said the place to eat is their braised dishes , not the noodles. But now, because we’re really short on time, I’ll get off the train and buy the braised dishes to take on the train. They have thin, specially made noodles, perfect for dine-in. Those who prefer firmer noodles shouldn’t take them to go, but I just took some to go. So, let’s try it later and see if it’s really not suitable for takeout. We’re back with a full load ! I bought so many souvenirs on this trip; my suitcase is almost overflowing! Hahaha. The shopkeeper said these noodles aren’t suitable for takeout and should be eaten directly, but we didn’t believe him. Now, look, the whole noodle is stuck together! Let’s see how we’re going to eat it! Let’s see if it’s really mushy or not ! It’s really bad, haha. The owner said this isn’t suitable for takeout, but we insisted on giving it to them. But I think the seasoning is okay , really? Hmm, let me try it. We’re on the train right now, so it’s a bit difficult. The seasoning is pretty good, really okay . He said this noodle dish really isn’t suitable for takeout. Now let’s try the braised dishes . At first glance, the braised dishes are actually a bit ordinary because they look so plain . But the owner recommended them to us, saying that adding their sauce is the key. Once you add it, it will be upgraded to a divine delicacy. Let’s try it. What about the dried tofu ? Is it really that salty? Hmm! The sauce is quite delicious . Really? The sauce is a little bit salty . I noticed that the flavors here seem to be on the saltier side, unlike the sweet flavors of the south. I just ate all the braised dishes on the train , which included seaweed , dried tofu, braised pork, tofu, and radish. It’s really just like what the owner of Huilan Potato Restaurant told us. Their sauce is a divine sauce, and when you pour this soy sauce over each braised dish, it elevates them to another level. People who really like garlic flavors will definitely like this.
