The Unbelievable & Greatest Natural Wonders of Palawan
[Music] We are just approaching but it is probably noticeable how clear the water is. That is why this is the most famous and most beautiful island in all of Balabak, Palawan. Here they are, guys. Now we will visit the islands in Balabak, Palawan which I am sure can compete with the world class and famous beach destinations in our country. Since we are back here in Marabon Island itself, we found out that someone is making unique dishes and that is what we will be cooking. Do you see that? You probably know that. Is this the same fish that we are removing the spines from, is this the one that has poison? From what I see in the research, it says there is. And the one who will be cooking for us is none other than Hi everyone. Salam alayikum makam kamemon. [Music] Who would have thought that there are such paradises hidden here in mainland Balabak? Because this very Balabak, Palawan is known for island hopping. But you see, there are these kinds of beautiful falls just waiting to be discovered. I thought we would be zero. But when we were about to leave the mangrove area, oh. We saw a crocodile. When the crocodile is floating from head to tail, it is not brave. But when the crocodile has its back sunk, its head is floating and its tail is also floating, it is aggressive. It will chase you three more times. Are you ready again? Because I will show you the things to do from the mainland attraction to the islands where balabac is really known, the next top tourist destination here in Palawan. [Music] Good morning, kapo and welcome back to our new motorcycle adventure. In the previous episode, I showed you the trip we made from Buliluyan Port to Batara in Palawan, so we went to the last island of Palawan which is close to Malaysia. And there I showed you what their island looks like. Their lifestyle, the things you can see. And we also went to the very boundary down in the ocean where you can see the buoy that is now owned by the country of Malaysia. And in this episode, this is where we will start exploring the very mainland of Balabak. [Music] Assalamualaikum warahmatullahi taala wabarakatuh. Welcome to the municipality of Balabak. The barangays in Balabak are made up of 20 barangays. We have 16 Mainland Barangays and six Island Barangays in Balawak. The entire population of Balabak according to the CBMS , the latest CBMS survey we conducted here in the town of Balabak. At 42,215, most of the people here in Balabak are 90% Muslims. Then the Christians, most of them are in the Mainland, especially here in the population. I still don’t see any difference between the Muslim and Christian communities. They are really just one. There is unity between Christians and Muslims here in the town of Malabak. [Music] Since we are here and back, let’s take the opportunity to explore what we can see, what we can eat, and what we can find and discover here in mainland Balaba. And so we can start our fun exploration and journey here in Balabak. Well, what are we waiting for? Let’s go. [Music] But before we start our adventure, let’s have breakfast first. And here in Mainland Balabak itself, we found some food. It’s a bit strange, so let ‘s eat quickly. [Music] Let’s eat breakfast first. Right behind the Balabak municipal hall. We found a tabid and an empanada here. The tabid is PHP10 and the empanada is Php20. It’s delicious. But before we explore again and wander around here in the same place, let’s eat first. That’s it. First bite for you. Hm. There’s also a tabid here. There, bread with a sugar coat, guys. Php10. Eat it. The ones I showed you. Those are the typical ones we eat but the ones we found right behind the Balabak municipal hall are the ones They call it bookcoron. It’s only Php10. You’ve probably seen it being made by hand, fried by hand and the buko inside is fresh. It’s my first time hearing about it. It’s my first time tasting bukuron here in Balabak. And this is Php10. Look at it. Look at the meat. Hey, there’s a buko inside. Look at that. It smells like the first bite for you. It’s perfect for breakfast. It’s like a buko turon combined and then it’s ready. Just think about it, it’s only Php10 each. Now if you ever happen to be here in mainland Balabak, it’s just behind, I’ll repeat to you, it’s just behind the Balabak municipality, you can taste this bukur there. And of course, since we’re here in Balabak, look at our water. It’s Malaysian. Malaysian products are cheap here in Balabak. There, our water is Malaysian. Let’s eat. Look at our bukuro. Let’s eat properly first. After we eat, we’ll start exploring. We just rented a motorcycle for Php700 per day right here in mainland Balabak. And from here in town proper, we’ll ride for an hour to our first destination. Can about it but it’s not going to change a thing. Maybe try to hide it. Pull down the cures. [Music] You can go on a road trip right here in mainland Balabak because 60 to 70% of the roads here are already paved. Look, there are still a few off-roads but you can go on a road trip and I’m excited for the next two or five years when the paved road is finally finished. Around mainland Balabak, we’ll definitely come back here to bring our motorcycle. Look at their roads here. [Applause] [Music] The Globe and Smart signals are no longer available here. But right here in Barangay Malaking Ilog, they have them. There it pops up. Then there’s an insert coin here. Let’s press this. We can drop it in. Let’s go and see . [Applause] [Music] And it’s fast. It’s going to run out. Load up, we’re connected even though there’s no Globe signal, no Smart, even here in this remote barangay of mainland Balabak, there are Starlinks, even though other people here don’t have electricity, there’s solar and there are generator sets, but what’s really important these days is that you have an internet connection, there are many starlings right here, right where we’re sailing, I saw them earlier. There, we now have an internet signal. All been around seen it before, baby. I know this show. I know my to the I don’t was my now this is where I come in I the when it Less than an hour from the Balabak Town Proper and we have reached this Barangay Hall of barangay Indalawan we just left our motorbike and from here we will walk. We just logged in at the barangay hall itself. And from here we will walk for 20 to 30 minutes to our ultimate goal. It’s not that technical what we will be going through. That’s the only challenge we will have because what we are going through is soft and very muddy . We are only wearing slippers. We are wearing sandals. There, we sank. There oh, our feet sank. That’s why that’s what is causing us to slow down because our feet are slippery. I hear the sloshing of water here. It looks like we are getting closer. [Music] We have passed the muddy parts of the trail and we are starting to assault. We are slowly climbing and it is a bit breathtaking. But because I really want to see our goal here in person, right in the village. Maybe it’s only 10 to 20 minutes away. We’re still going. We’re still climbing. [Music] What we’ve been through is terrible. It’s a good thing the weather was kind to us because just imagine it was raining right where we were going. But this is what I can see. Just wait. Let’s look here. Let’s find a spot. Oh That’s it, guys. Or the Indalawan Falls. [Music] You probably saw the mud we went through. The little climb. Until we reach one of the most famous falls here in mainland Balabak and this is what is called Indalawan Falls. [Music] Assalamualaikum sir, welcome to the PS of barangay Dalawan. Waalaikum salam brother Bilman. I’m just going to ask why it’s called Indalawan Falls sir, it’s not our name, it’s not FS Basay, it’s called Mulbog Basay, then this is what the barangay wan says, ind lawan, if it’s Mulbog or doon lawan, if it’s in Tagalog, sister, fight. Now, what we used to do here, sir, there’s no charge, we’re not asking for payment because it’s free, even tourists have come here, everyone from the town of Malabak also goes here. It’s okay. It’s free. [Music] [Music] Who would have thought that there were such a kind of paradise hidden here in Mainland Balabak? Because Balabak, Palawan itself is known for its island halves. But you see, there are these kinds of beautiful pools just waiting to be discovered. Beginners can go there. It’s not that technical. There’s just mud and a little bit of climbing. And the best part is that there’s no fee for this very location. That means everyone who comes here doesn’t have to spend a single peso. That’s all I’m strictly reminding you to all the tourists who are going to Indalawan Falls itself, your food bags, your garbage, especially the plastic bottles, you will take back where you came from. Please do not leave any trash or garbage in these pools because look at the weather, it is not raining and there is a lot of water falling from above [Music] [Laughter] [Applause] [Laughter] And these are not just any waterfalls because if I am not mistaken, these are the highest waterfalls in all of Balabak, Palawan. And if we look at the height that our drone flew, it is 60 m high. It is that high and you can see the water falling from above. Kuya Melvan said that when we went to these falls, it is rare to see such a strong fall of water, especially when it is not raining too much. But it is a good thing that the weather cooperated. Yesterday it rained heavily but you can see that we were treated well. The sun came out and there was water falling. It was beautiful to look at, guys. I don’t know if our camera can justify it, but take advantage of these kinds of places here in Balabak while they’re still free. I’ll repeat , there’s no charge and right at the bottom, it’s only waist-deep. It’s that beautiful and you’ll really want to take a dip and bathe in the beautiful Indalawan Falls. [Music] After I quickly showed you Indalawan Falls, we learned that right here in the barangay of Malaking Ilog, our native Mulbog brothers and sisters have an important tradition that will take place today. And since it’s not out of the way, we’re going to go there. It looks like we’re here. Let’s go, I have something to show you. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] Where can you see that we have to slaughter two cows like our Christians have to circumcise. But here among our native Mulbog brothers and sisters, this is what’s called converting to Islam. It’s like circumcision for our Christians. But as I mentioned, they slaughtered two cows. It was so much fun. [Music] Now, as soon as we entered their mosque, we were immediately welcomed. This is what they seemed to welcome us with. There were welcome drinks and their welcome drink had various micropics and then there were snacks. So as soon as we entered, we were greeted. Let’s drink it right away and look at this, young man. Let’s taste it. Mm. Crupet. There is a ritual going on right now but since we just entered the mosque, we will immediately operate on it. [Music] When we call Islam, that’s what we call the sunnat, like earlier, the child’s word, if we call us hacker, he’s a convert, he can convert to Islam but not like a Christian, because of this, his wound will only hurt, as long as it bleeds, it’s natural for us Muslims, that’s how it is because if he doesn’t go through the sunnat, that’s not allowed. He can’t be baptized, he’s a sunnat. Regarding that, like earlier, after the circumcision, after the circumcision, we see that they are giving thanks, which is the fact that their son has been circumcised, how important is circumcision, especially for boys, because that’s what I have a prayer for, that can’t be said, pray, I have a prayer for, after that, after that, we threw the kind, we see the same rice and money, which are the numbers that have been baptized, which will prove that they are thanking the Lord that the son and the woman who were baptized, the son was circumcised so that they can have sex, they ask for thanks to the Lord. Now, right behind this mosque, this is where what seems to be a kitchen is happening and this is one of their kitchens. Look, they are cooking their food here and what they are serving here is almost shared by those who attend the conversion to Islam. [Music] After the main celebration and the dua and giving thanks, this is it. You saw the kitchen where they are cooking. One cow was knocked down. What’s the point of two cows they prepared here. Then this is their rice placed on a banana leaf. The name is Tinungus. You probably saw from the kitchen, they help each other here at the back until they reach the very center of the mosque. We will eat together and celebrate together and this is what we will eat. There is rice here that is called Tinungus. Then the stewed cow is the first bite for you. Now we are very fortunate to have witnessed their tradition here, our native Mulog brothers here in Balabak. This is it. Let’s eat. [Music] After we go to Indalawan Falls and enjoy the native Mulogs down in Barangay Malaking Ilog where we enjoyed converting to Islam, let ‘s go back to Balabak town proper and let’s board a speedboat because we have a destination. This is it. We are going to enter the Lagdong River. And oh, we have something to look for. That’s all we’re looking for, and so you know what our goal is, just wait, because we’re about to enter here. [Music] We’re already passing through what’s called the Lagdong River. And ah, we’re surrounded by Bacawan trees , but our main goal here is one of the salt water crocodiles here in Balabak. We don’t know if we’ll see any, if we have the time. We’ll just try. They say there are a lot of them here. [Music] We’ve been going around for more than 30 minutes, but we haven’t seen any crocodiles. All we can see at this time is the silence, the sound of birds, and look at what we’re passing through. The Bacawan trees are very large. That’s all we can see now. It seems like we’re being naughty because even though it’s sunny now, our crocodile friends aren’t showing up. Even at low tide. Now we are going back because this very boat we are on will not be able to enter . But let’s see while we are going out, maybe we will see something. But for now, there is nothing. Still zero. But what is here, look at the beauty of their mangroves. I thought we would be safe. But when we were about to leave the mangrove area, oh, we saw a crocodile. We here in Balabak as an agency of the PCSD. Actually here in Balabak, we are just monitoring the number of crocodiles. That’s why there is Tourists who come to Balabak to find or see crocodiles can only look at them. They should never approach them. So we don’t know the behavior of the crocodile. That’s why we should avoid them. It depends on the behavior. When the crocodile is floating from head to tail, it is not brave. But when the crocodile has its back sunken, its head is floating and its tail is also floating, it is aggressive. It will chase you for three more days . How do you know? The size of the creature we encountered is based on the video I showed . Because of its eyes, there is a measurement made for each gap between two eyes. That’s how we estimate the size of the crocodile. When I look at the video you showed, it is 16 to 17 ft. long. It is big. We strictly inform the people of Balaba to follow the correct protocol that we are giving to the PCSD. First of all, avoid building houses near the river. Second, do not throw away dead animals that become food for crocodiles. Because when crocodiles go to that area and get food there, they bring it back. Then, over time, they declare it their territory. They will not leave that area . So that’s where the wildlife becomes a hazard for the communities. Yes. That’s where it becomes a hazard because first of all, the community forgets that there is a crocodile in that area. That’s why we keep repeating it. We take them through the IEC so that they don’t forget. We’re also putting up signs that this area has crocodiles. For tourists who want to see a crocodile, don’t approach it because if you approach it, it will sink. It will take a long time before it resurfaces. So you won’t see anything. After I show you what the Lagdong River looks like where we spotted the lone and elusive crocodile, we will continue with Island the Happing. As I told you, Balabak Palawan is known for its island hopping tours. So from here on the mainland Balabak, we will go to the islands that you can see. [Music] We are now passing through what is called the Balabak straight. This is open waters. Open sea where the huge cargo ships that leave the country and enter our country actually pass through. So if you notice, there are huge cargo ships passing through here and just a little turn, I can already see the first island that we are aiming for ahead. [Music] We are just a little further away, but the clarity of the water is already remarkable. Look at this. [Music] [Music] [Applause] After 9 knots of nautical miles of travel from there on the mainland Balabak, or a little less than an hour, we have arrived, gentlemen, let’s disembark. My first time here too. Wait, this is the pink island. [Music] To give you an idea of where we are right now, you can open your Google Maps, offline maps or any application on your mobile devices and Apple phones and search for Comiran Island. This is the very island we are on. But this very island we are on is often called Pink Island. [Music] When we ask the locals here in Balabak, they call it Tamyalan Island. But it is famous as Pink Island because when you look at the sand, there are small red corals mixed in with the white sand. We have seen pink beaches all over the Philippines. One of them is in Santa Cruz near Zamboanga City. There is a pink one in Sorsogon and one in Vito Siruma. The appearance is almost the same when you say pink, but it is not really totally pink. It just has a reflection like this. The sun is shining so when they say pink beaches, they’re not really pink at all. When you arrive, what you’ll see in person is typical white sand. It’s just different and it’s just a matter of how fine the sand is in each place. But when it’s called a pink beach, it’s not really pink. It just has a slight resemblance depending on the sunlight. Like that, the sun is very bright. But like other sands on beaches, in different parts of the Philippines, it’s the same. [Music] Now for us to experience, look at our feet sinking in. The sand is so soft. Look at the corals here, they’re red. They’re really pink. The sand is also very fine. It’s so beautiful. Ah, look at this, they’re pink here. The sunlight is beautiful because it’s mixed with the red corals. The little ones. Look at how clear the sea is here. There you go. It’s so nice to swim. This is only our first island but you can see the water. It’s so clear. After we left Pink Island, we were heading to our next island. Maybe there were no less than 7 miles and it was just ahead . It was just close. You can see the weather was cooperating with the next island. [Music] Look at the time right there in the main of Balabak, it was raining heavily but here in the middle of the ocean, right on the way to the second island. You can see that the sea was almost like it was sleeping. The ride was smooth and the sun was shining brightly. I could see our next island. [Music] As we got closer and closer to the next one we were going to, I noticed that the water was very clear. It was probably obvious what the speedboat we were riding was going through. That’s just a little bit because this island we were spying on is the most famous of all the islands here in Balabak Palawan. We know we miss you [Music] We’re just approaching but it’s already noticeable how clear the water is. You can see so much. [Music] Also look at the reefs that the boat we’re riding on passes through. That’s why, that’s why this is the most famous and most beautiful island in all of Balabak, Palawan. Here you go, guys. Oh. [Music] [Music] This is Ono Island now. I understand why they always tell me that the most beautiful island here in Balabak, Palawan is Onuk Island. [Music] I can’t see it on camera but the sand is so powdery and you can see the water is so clear there. We’re just approaching the island itself. I’m so amazed by the clarity of the water. When we got to the island itself, I was even more amazed because when I saw and touched their sand here, I’ll tell you, the sand here on the island itself is so fine. Take a while to get rid of all we can’t see so you can have an idea of what their sand looks like here. Awesome. There you go. Look. This is the sand right here on the island. Fine. It’s so awesome. There you go. This is their sand so you can have an idea. That’s around the island. That’s their sand. [Music] If you have the opportunity to visit ONU Island here in Balabak, Palawan, their dayur is Php1,500 then Php2,000. If you want to stay overnight, if I were you , you would stay overnight because the difference is only Php500. But seriously, look at their sand here. Oh, it’s really fine. If there is the finest sand I’ve ever seen here in Palawan, this might be it. If you’re going to stay overnight here, it’s better if you book one of the tour packages because there’s free accommodation. Just grab them because they fill up quickly. They have styling. They have wifi in the morning. They use solar energy and at night they have a generator. set. If you want a little privacy, they have a glamping dome here for Php1,000. That’s good for 4 to six people. And they have a NIPA for Php1,000 for 4 to 6. If your budget is a bit tight, then what I told you is Php2,000 overnight, that includes your accommodation. That’s all you really need to book in advance with tour operators here in Balabak, Palawan if you’re going to UN Island. And they also have water activities here. There’s a crystal for Php300 per hour. They also have a standing paddle boat for 150 per hour. And they also have a standard kayak for Php150. When you arrive here at ONU, you’ll be really amazed. That’s why, that’s why they say this is the best island you’ll see in Balabak. By the way, I can also mention that here on Onok Island itself, there are many sea turtles or hawksbills that you can encounter. So that’s all they strictly remind you that you are not allowed to touch or approach them because this very island has many turtles laying eggs. In fact, we have seen places where hawksbills have laid eggs here on the island itself. There are just as many turtles here and I will repeat that, you are absolutely not allowed to touch them. Just take a video or take a picture if you can get close to them here on Onok Island itself. But the experience here is really world class, this is where we are. Apart from the clarity of the water, the sand is so fine. Just kidding, guys. Fine. I w my you so your name you will not the but I’ll be waiting here until the end. [Music] After I show you the beautiful island of Onok Island, we are going to our next destination. But we will pass through this beautiful shallow part of my ocean again in the clearest water. You can see that the sand is also white right where we are passing. We will still have to travel for about 30 to 1 hour to the next island. But first, look at what we are passing through. It is very clean. [Music] [Music] [Music] Four minutes have passed since we left Onok Island and we have arrived. This is Marabon Island. [Music] This is not the first time that we have set foot here on Marabon Island and right from Onok we still don’t have anything to eat. We found out here on Marabon Island that someone cooks a unique dish. This is where we will eat, kapos. [Music] Since we have returned to Marabon Island, we found out that someone makes unique dishes. And this is what we will cook. I will show you. Do you see that? You probably know that. And the one who will cook this for us is none other than Hi everyone. Salam alayikum maka kamemoy. [Music] Before we eat this fish, we need to remove it one by one. What do you call this fish, ma’am Beya? Buntal. But is this fish itself that we are removing the spines from, is this the one that has poison? For us, it doesn’t. But from what I see in Google research, it says there is. But I haven’t heard of anyone finding this kind of fish. This is what the fish that has been stung looks like but it has been boiled. But if you want to have an idea of the fish itself, this is what it looks like. This is what we will eat and cook later. Miss Beang, when cooking buntal, what is the most delicious dish of the Sama tribe ? Sinagol. It means sinagol because sinagol is mix. It’s like this . Sinasagol mix sinagol with gata. To make a delicacy called sinagol, first boil the fish and then remove all the spines from the body. This is the part that is most processed so you must be patient because apart from removing all the spines one by one, you can also be pricked by the spines. Then Remove all the thorns and shred it into small pieces. At this point, the fish skin is said to be the tastiest part. After preparing the ingredients to be used such as coconut milk, onion, garlic, lemongrass leaves, chili peppers, ginger and turmeric, it is sautéed with the chicken liver and turmeric then the shredded fish flesh is placed in the pot and the coconut milk is added and boiled for a few minutes until it is soft and cooked and ready to eat. [Music] It is a great honor that a Miss Deko Tomay cooked us shagul buntal. Buntal to be clear. Miss Beyang, this buntal itself does not have poison. None. None. So so that you do not worry that the one we are eating and the fish you saw are not poisonous. There is a variant or another species of fish that resembles the one we cooked, that is the one that has poison. But this is called buntal, and it’s not poisonous. This is my first time tasting buntal. You saw the process. Chopped, the thorns removed. Now, this is the moment of truth because Miss Bea is really the only one who cooked us mixed buntal. First mouthful for you. Hmm. It’s a bit jelly. Then you can taste the gata. Turmeric with ginger. I heard that this mixed buntal is delicious paired with, as you probably know, putu or puto sa mga tausog. We didn’t really eat anything at may unok because that’s all we went for. Miss Deko Tom. You can visit her Facebook page and soon Miss Bea will be releasing YouTube videos on her YouTube. Hi to Sir Kapo’s viewers. I hope that when I pass by your wall whether it’s on YouTube or Facebook, please follow and support me too. Miss Decutom and I will eat some food first.
