Uma vila misteriosa na FLORESTA AMAZÔNICA – FÁBRICA ABANDONADA de HENRY FORD FORDLÂNDIA – S12EP29
With one hand filming, carefully passing through… The Amazon rainforest… Look at that beautiful little road. Brazil was a country that… He used to pick up a log like this… 10 inches… Hey everyone, Thiago here, starting another video for the channel, straight from Rurópolis. For those who watched the previous video, we’re back here. We managed to get the motorcycles ready, and the goal of today’s video is to get to Fordlândia. Then we’ll see if we’ll do anything there and if we’ll stay there, or if we’ll continue on to Itaituba. Good morning, Le Cappel. Good morning, everyone. It’s early here… it hasn’t even dawned yet. Look at the size of this shovel… there’s a building here. And this one here, in front, is BR 230. We’re going to have breakfast and get the motorcycles ready there, put the luggage on the motorcycles and hit the road. That’s the entrance, in that lit part, to the hotel. We left the motorcycles here. And the little leak. We’ll have to look into this, you know?! This leak is getting worse. Let’s go, put this away. Here… Guys, the motorcycle is ready. Givaldo is here, helping with the preparation, right? Le Cappel is finishing fixing his motorcycle. And we’re going in this direction. I don’t know if this is a cloud or fog. Is this a cloud or fog? It’s… fog. So the sky is blue, probably. I mean, it’s clear, that’s what I meant. When it’s like this, it’s because the sun is going to be hot during… Right? Thank goodness. Start the motorcycle… fill up the tank and continue. It’s 6:50 now. What a… beautiful sky back there. Too bad you can’t see it. Fill up the motorcycle… and continue. Starting this day here asking for God’s protection, so that we can overcome the challenges of the day, record some cool content for you, and also enjoy ourselves. Today’s goal, as I’ve already said, is to go to Fordlândia and see the old building there, with the lathes, right? From here to there it’s 122 km, of which 45 km are on the road, plus 30 km on dirt roads. Once we get there, we’ll decide if we stay there or continue to Itaituba. Gas costs $6.75. So, how’s it going? Okay… Motorcycle fueled up, now at 9,795 km. Taking advantage of this early morning to talk about the channel’s supporters: If you need insurance for your motorcycle, car, house, or truck, talk to Eduardo at BNP Seguros. He’ll definitely give you a quote that suits you. Travel insurance from Vital Card, the only company I found that covers motorcycle trips without any additional costs. You can use my discount coupon there, but you have to purchase the insurance through the link in the description. Wolf Attack, you’ve seen the products I use. Thermos, backpack, bags. Go to their website, they have a lot of cool stuff, pocketknives. And they also have my discount coupon. Taking a picture here at the portal. Now… let’s hit the road here. Look, the sun is rising, a beautiful day from God. I washed the outside of the visor, but the inside is full of dirt. And last but not least, if you want to help the channel by becoming a member, as a reward, I make all the videos available in advance for channel members . Remember that all videos are free. There are people who don’t understand this, who end up clicking on a video that says: “Exclusive for… exclusive for members,” and think that I’m going to leave that video for members forever, and that they have to pay to watch it. No, they are all free. I release one video per weekend. In the background, the sun is rising and here, a mist from the Amazon rainforest. I asked in the previous video, of course I still haven’t been able to read the comments, about what this is, if it’s mist, fog, or fog, I don’t know the difference. And it even starts to fog up the camera lens. I have to keep running my finger over it like this all the time, otherwise it gets… blurry. We haven’t even driven 5 km… and a dirt road has already appeared here. I know it’s 30 km on this road from Rurópolis to Itaituba, but I don’t know if it starts right here. Quite a few children boarding the school bus, they stay here on the road, waiting for the bus to pass. Here it started… it started a quarry, traffic of some trucks. I think the robberies will return. Overtaking the trucks here. Yeah, the guys suffer on these roads, huh? So, going straight ahead, this one here… is part of BR 163. It’s connected to BR 230. And arriving at a junction, up ahead, going straight to Itaituba, if you turn left, go south, Mato Grosso over there. And about 50 km from Rurópolis, the asphalt ends. From what we were told, it’s 30 km, this stretch here. Let’s go, on the dirt road. Look at the little motorcycle, is it a Honda Biz or a Honda Pop? It’s a Honda Pop. Man… It looks like the motorcycle is going to fall apart. Huge dashboard… A truck here. A bit of… dust. Let’s see if we can overtake here now… With one hand filming. Drive carefully … It’s BR 230, man… I didn’t see the chain, if it’s taut, you didn’t answer me. In the other video I asked if it’s okay, so what? You have to check the time here, now, on Spot. GPS, TPMS, off. We’re in “root mode” here. The asphalt is back again. I don’t understand anything anymore. I don’t know where those 30 km of dirt road are. Maybe it’s closer to Itaituba. And here, I’m 55 km from Rurópolis and, probably, soon, we’ll reach the entrance to Fordlândia. And the asphalt ends again. Km 78. Could that be it? I think… I don’t know what km that is. And it must be just a small stretch. What I remember is that the access to Fordlândia is… it’s a part of asphalt. Doguinho… And right at the entrance to Fordlândia, it will be a historic milestone for me, because I will have completed the Trans-Amazonian Highway from end to end, combining it with the other trip I made. So, the stretch I hadn’t yet covered was this one, from Uruará to the entrance of Fordlândia. The other two sections, I covered with the F800. Good heavens. By the prophet’s beard. Who used to say that? Do you remember? It was him. Silvio Luiz. Look, “what a beautiful place, huh?” A bridge built, without the abutments. Look there… river… of the Amazon rainforest. Take a picture here. Record made. We continue. I don’t know the name of the river, because it’s not written here, but here it says: “Welcome to the Rio Cupai resort…. Cupari”, I think it’s Cupari, then. The entrance to Fordlândia, which is 64 km from Rurópolis. Remember that my odometer isn’t exactly reliable. Shall we go? Let’s go… 48 km. So here I complete the Trans-Amazonian Highway, on two different motorcycles, but the goal is to complete it with these legendary bikes, me and Le Cappel. Look at the Brazil nut trees over there. The first 20 km of the road are in this condition. Overall, very good, a stretch or two with some potholes. I know that further ahead there’s a part where they extract some ore and… and there was sand back then. Not sand, this ore that spreads on the road, it was a soft patch. I don’t know if it’s still like that. There’s a town in the middle of the way, and then a few more… kilometers to get to Fordlândia. It’s a cloudy day here, look at the birds, how beautiful. We might still be able to go to Itaituba today, it’s still early. Let’s get there, see if we can get into the warehouse. Last time, I had a little trouble, and suddenly a guy appeared there, I asked to come in, and he let me. Look at the bridge, you have to be careful with that. It appears out of nowhere. Fordlândia, it’s on the banks of the Tapajós River, just like Itaituba. Welcome to Acrelândia. Village here. Very small, but there’s already a motorcycle repair shop there. Mazinho Motopeças. And that’s it. There’s still a barn here, with an American look. Look at that pretty little road. What’s that? Is it a little house or a church? Hole. I couldn’t see it. We’re almost there, about 10 km. I’ll see if I can pass through Vila Americana this time, since I didn’t last time. There’s a mining company here, we just passed it. “Whoa,” smoke. And up ahead I think there’s another one, where they take the cargo directly to the river. I think it’s up there. Look at dinner, folks. The chicken, hanging here. Not dinner, lunch. We’re almost there, folks. Look over there. Here’s an access to the river. And you can see the famous water tower there. Welcome to Fordlândia, municipality of Aveiro. The warehouses over there. Good morning. Good morning. And the Tapajós River in the background. Look, the warehouse. There’s another warehouse, over there on the riverbank. And this is the famous warehouse where the tools are kept. I sat on this little bench here and made a video last time. People playing ball. Let’s try to see directly from here. Good morning. Can we visit here? Ah, great. Thanks. Good morning, how are you? Can we visit the warehouse there? Where are you from? From São Paulo. We came a little far, didn’t we? Okay. Folks, we’re coming here to the warehouses. We’re here with Mr. Paulo. The famous water tower. From the lathe and here… Lathe?! And here was the… the kiln, for drying wood. And tell me something, did Henry Ford ever come here, or did he send his son, an employee? He never set foot here. Henry Ford himself never set foot here. Only his boss, only his group of workers. And… many years passed, a grandson of his came here. Only after many years did his grandson come, after he had already left everything, abandoned it, and they left here. And the objective was planting… It was, their objective was rubber, right… Rubber trees… to extract the rubber. But the thing is, it was one thing to… to be a native rubber tree, and another thing to produce it, to plant it… It had a… it had a different process, right? Because the native tree, it would grow one tree here, another there, another there, it was quite… there was a lot of space. Then, when he cultivated it, he joined the smaller spaces. That didn’t work. Then an insect appeared, called a caterpillar, which was about 10 cm each. And it climbed on one, went down to another. Then it expanded a lot. Does this have anything to do with that time, or not? This is… there was the Gulf War, right? The Gulf War. Brazil was a country that sent humanitarian aid there, right? Medicine and such. And then when the Gulf War ended, the countries that helped in the Gulf War were given this type of vehicle. Then the government of Pará donated this one to the municipality of Aveiros. Intake and exhaust valves. I don’t know which ones, right? But here, it seems to be… Please take the blade, so we can see if it’s ready. That was good. I’ll adjust the valve later. The workbenches. Look at this one, huh. This one is heavy-duty. Look at the machine… the… the equipment. Oh, seriously, this is iron? A guy came here, he was talking to me. Can I take it? I said: “Friend, I’ll give it to you. You can take it.” Just… it’s just carrying it, right? We’re inside the production shed. This here is the lathe, the lathe section. There are the milling machines. Now Le Cappel’s eyes are going to light up. First, come see the hospital here. This must be the X-ray machine. Seriously? Yes, there was a lamp there… Man… Look, the iron table. I’d like a little workbench like that at home, huh. He said I can take it, if I can… carry it. One-arm chair. So let’s go, let’s describe the items I know. If I’m wrong, you can help me. That’s a… That’s a drill… It’s… a boring drill. We call it a radial drill because of the size it can drill. What’s really cool about it is that it’s belt-driven. The belt. That’s a very… Very old, but it’s belt-driven. Back there, we have two… Here, a lathe, three jaws, horizontal. It’s for turning small parts, right? Turning small parts. Here, longitudinal carriage, transverse carriage, tool adjustment, the chuck, to hold the workpiece here. As they were probably very large parts, it was clamped on both sides, right? To make shafts from here… The shaft passes in here, it will hold a chuck, two chucks and here, probably, tools, to make… It was a production lathe, right? What’s that? Brake. No, this is to move the tool. So, you’re turning, you move the tool to the limit you want, to do the machining. That’s what I understand, right, the little I understand, of this very old thing, this is very old. Here is a more conventional lathe. So… belt-driven, it’s without the belts here. Four-jaw chuck, tailstock , probably the transmission here, bed and, so, for its age, very well preserved, very well cared for. Does it have a brand? Brown Sharp. For those who know, Brown Sharp here, explain to us where it came from, who the manufacturer is… United States. Oh, United States. Here, probably… It even has a… heritage plate . And it has an automatic mechanism, oh. It has an automatic mechanism here, to move it. It’s something like… I’d never seen before, and I’ve been in the turning and tooling business since 1990, 35 years. And this one over there, what is it for turning? Look at the size of the bed. I’m going to make a… a little screw… The size of… a screw like this needs a lathe this length to make. So, this lathe here is a self-maintenance lathe. Here it already has… it already has a motor, the system… It works… It works? This gentleman here, who works on it. Man, does it work? Yes, he makes parts on it. Man… But here’s the gear system, it changes speeds. And here, we have a milling machine. What do you call it? What do you call it? “Edjans in White”. And you, the one who operates the machines there? Which one is still working? … Here, if the Teneré is the mother of the Dakarianas, this milling machine is the mother of all milling machines. Man… This thing probably made a lot of gears, a lot of slots, a lot of… prismatic parts, right? And that one over there, what is it? The last time I came here, I didn’t know what it was. A press. A hydraulic press. A hydraulic press?! And how did it work? I can’t understand. Here’s neutral, here it says turn the motor, the motor worked here. It pressed here, probably regulating the position here, and then the piston, it came… And it was hydraulic? Hydraulic. Hydraulic… Motor running there, and coming out. Then it picked up the part here, which was to be removed or tightened. Then it stamped onto the part there? Well… He’d take a 10-inch rod… heat it in the electric forge that was there, then bring it here, leave it almost in position. Then he’d turn it on… take the rod and start shrinking it. I’m… I’m from the mechanical field, right? And many people, when they talk about toolmaking, think it’s tools like… screwdrivers, pliers, right? Toolmaking, in fact, includes tools, including dies and cutting and bending dies, which would be used in this type of machine, like this… I imagine here, an old type of die made here, for you to use here. That’s a tool, right? The tool that is placed in this type of machine. And this one here, what is it? This is a manual press. Manual press. Manual press. We call this one a “balancinhos” (little balancers), right? Manual press. Here there’s a Teneré gear, third and fifth gear here in the back. It’s working. Yeah, it goes down, up… Boy. So, I’m going to… I’m going to press a pan here. No, no. No, no problem… Who starts, right? A saw… Jigsaw cutter, this jigsaw here, when I started working with toolmaking, In 1990, we only had this type of saw. It’s a long, wide saw. And where does the saw go, I don’t understand. It’s… wait, let me move to the other side here, see. What happens? You clamp it, it’s a wide saw like this. It must be about 2 inches. It’s clamped here. So, how does it work? It lifts, pulls cutting, lifts, pulls cutting. We call this type of saw a jigsaw. It goes back and forth… Iron… And it cuts like this… I even cut 5-inch billets on one of these saws. It cuts very well. Now you’ve just revealed your age. Look at the care here. A project for this… There should be a project, get the students there, teach… The steel ladder… Look at that. And even so, look at the size of the wood. All through conveyor belts. It went to the kiln. That’s the kiln. Yes. Andiroba… Andiroba is a very valuable thing. Andiroba nuts. The little boxes, with the magic parts, look. Hydraulic part. This one here is… this one here, we’re going to ask here, see if we can test if it fits in the… in the clamp. Look at the Almox. Let’s go down another ladder here. The famous water tank. What’s your name, sir? Paulo. Paulo. Mr. Paulo, can I take one of these nuts? Yes, yes. I collect them. I’m collecting pebbles. I ‘m not going to take pebbles here, I’m going to take nuts. Ah, I understand. Starting to get good at this. I’m going to become a lathe operator. Ah, on the other side. But if it’s a Cincinnati, I’ve never seen that before. Cincinnati… Ah, the plate was here. Take a picture with… Cincinnati… Tool storage . All plated, back then it was like this… The axle ends are there. Material sector . Brand new computer… Today it’s… it’s the agricultural storage. The agricultural sector that… that works with this little sector. Takes care of its materials. Yes, I was turning a piece there, and I need a flanging tool. Do you have it there, Mr. Thiago? What are the specifications? I need one for external turning, one for blocking, which is internal turning, and then one for facing. I need to finish a piece there. Here we only have parts for the Teneré – Yamaha Teneré 600. What do you need? “See,” you don’t have a valve clearance gauge? Here we have… we have CDI, third gear, fifth gear. I’ll see if I can find something here, wait a minute. Can I open this, Mr. Thiago? Restricted area. It’s a hub… from the Teneré, forged. If you want, it’s on sale, it’s never been used. We have fun here, but there’s a lot of history involved here, you know? Seeing something like this is really cool. …an engine from a German Junkers factory, German. Then came these two tanks here, for fuel. Is this a tank? For fuel. Tank one, tank two. It’s fuel, that’s why there’s this… on top there, to get out… A vent, right? That’s it. What is this here? It’s orange. It’s orange. Look at the size of this thing. Look at the engine. Junkers… German factory. I wonder if this piston fits the Teneré? Good morning. Good morning. Good morning. Take a closer look at this thing here. This is one… this is another. One goes up, the other goes down. The carburetor. Look at the size of the piston. Anyone with a little common sense will understand. This dynamo, or stator, system is the same system the Teneré uses. You have… a winding that rotates around magnets, and then it captures electrons… ions, right? And this generates energy, which is then stored somehow to be used for whatever is needed. So it’s a simple, basic principle, but, like the Teneré, it still works today. … I don’t know, I’ll just say what I think. Capacitors or… energy storage. The control panel… Man… This is a fortune. And there’s still a lot of wiring here, right? Is this a wire or… No, this is… a water system… that used to be treated, there was treatment back then. The water came from… I don’t know if you’ll see it down there, there’s a little house there, …which is in… already tipped over. …water, playing with those big tanks there. Then it came to the filtration and treatment part. From there, it went down to another tank and up to the tank. The tank, that famous water tank. Yes. Down there, there are some little stones, some pebbles that do the filtering. But there’s no more treatment, which at the time used a damp stone to remove all the dirt, the impurities from the water, it cleaned it… …today, the way it comes, it goes. And here is the famous… Yes, this here is the tank… Tank, look at the size of the “thing”. When you get to the middle of it, the river is right at its base. Release it. Release water… Right now, at the moment, I haven’t released it yet. It’s still filling up. I was… I was hired temporarily, for a few hours of work. What’s your name? Ulysses. Ulysses. So Ulysses is going to give me some practical training here, since I’ve already done the theory part. Which way are we going to turn? Very slowly. Very slowly. So you say if this is too fast… No, you can go a little faster. Faster. That’s it. Yes, this is manly strength, man… That’s it, because the water pressure is going down, and it’s all blocked. How do you say it? It’s building pressure there… I understand. So I’ll turn it, and when it’s time to stop, you tell me. You’ll hear when the water… Are you hearing it? I’m hearing… that the water is already… being distributed… Where is this water going? It’s going to be distributed to the whole city. So here, we’re closing the city’s tap, the valve… Opening. Opening the city’s valve. There you go. And now? The noise, that little noise there, that… Is water passing through? Yes. So… This movement, that you’re making, is it good? Yes. That pipe, it falls here. It comes from the river, through the pipe, it falls here. The river comes down there and then goes there, and then rises. Can you see that pipe over there, that tube over there? It goes down there, to go over there. To go over there, to the settling system. I got a “kick”. Now we’re going to the other shed. We were helped here by Mr. Paulo. A very nice guy. “See you later”. How cool, huh? Le Cappel, he’ll sleep happy tonight. He tinkered with Henry Ford’s lathe. And down here, Tapajós, a veteran. Look at the gas station. An old house over there. A boat. I brought in 800, I’ll bring in this one too.
