[AMAZÔNIA] ALGUMA COISA NOS IMPEDIU, TENTAMOS [TÉNÉRÉ 1988] – S12EP28

Look at this… …the potholes here… Hey everyone, Thiago here, starting another video for the channel, live from Rurópolis. We’re traveling the Trans-Amazonian Highway, from kilometer 0 in Cabedelo, near João Pessoa. And we’ve already arrived here, near Rurópolis, still in the state of Pará. It’s not even dawn yet, it’s dark… almost 6 am and we’ll have coffee soon. Le Cappel, what are your expectations for today? Will it be more relaxed? No… the expectation for today is good. I think it will be more relaxed, especially since yesterday was very tough. So, today we’ll have a rest. Let’s go… The idea is to go to Alter do Chão. So, we made a change to the route, we saw that it would be possible to add another place. So we’ll go there, and then we’ll come back here to the Trans-Amazonian Highway to continue the Trans-Amazonian Highway project from end to end. Now we’re going to have coffee, we’re here at the UAI Hotel. Wow… how well organized. $140 for the room. Let’s get to the daily packing… I always keep a toothbrush here, and one inside the trunk, which is harder to grab. So, when we stop for lunch, that kind of thing, I just open the trunk here… and grab the toothbrush. Tie it in a way that doesn’t bother me, and that it doesn’t fall out either. I pass this strap through here… So I pass the strap here inside, going under the seat, through here, and here I made a loop, so it doesn’t slip. And the other one, I pass it over here. And the bottle, I leave it here with this carabiner, so it doesn’t fall out. Starting the Tenera. Tap. Tap . Started. The motorcycle has 9,549 km. So, what they told us here is that the road from Rurópolis to Santarém is paved. There’s a stretch with a lot of potholes… but it’s all paved. And we’re going to see if we can find a way to get to Alter do Chão, passing through Belterra. That way we wouldn’t reach Santarém. However, this road is sandy, and it seems they do maintenance, so the sand isn’t that heavy. Anyway, we’ll go there, see how the road is, and decide what to do then. Now, leaving here, we’re already near the entrance to the BR-163, which goes to Santarém, to refuel and continue. It’s now… 7:08 AM. Let’s go. Look at that beautiful day behind us, the sun rising. Starting this day asking for God’s protection, so that He may bless… today’s journey, that we may overcome the day’s challenges, record some great content for you, and also enjoy ourselves. A quick note about the channel’s supporters: Motorcycle insurance. If you need new insurance or a renewal, talk to Eduardo from BNP. He’ll give you a good quote. Car, house, motorcycle, plane, helicopter. If you need to transfer your insurance, he does that too. Refueling the motorcycles here… $6.85. Okay, so we refueled… I got water. Now let’s go… So, this way, Itaituba, back to Altamira and this way, Santarém. I got some water, the motorcycle is refueled, it’s enough to reach today’s destination without worrying about refueling. And going back to talking about the channel’s supporters, Vital Card is the only operator I found that has motorcycle travel coverage without the need for any additional charges. And there, if you get your insurance through the link in the description, I have a discount coupon – thinoronha. Alltacks panniers protect the luggage. I went through those potholes on the Trans-Amazonian Highway, and they’re perfect… strong and sturdy. Come back anytime, Rurópolis… We’ll be back soon to continue the Trans-Amazonian Highway. Right now we’re leaving the Trans-Amazonian Highway and heading towards the banks of the Tapajós River. Look at that, how beautiful. You can see the Brazil nut trees from afar. And last but not least, if you want to help the channel by becoming a member, as a reward, I will make the videos available to channel members in advance. This is a YouTube tool; I don’t have access to anything other than making the video available. Wow, look at the size of the crater that opened up here. The asphalt gave way. Look at that. And it must have been like this for a while now, because they even built a sidewalk. What madness. By the prophet’s beard. Look at the fog. Fog in the Amazon rainforest. Fog or mist? What’s the difference? Mist. It’s been a challenge for me, riding without GPS. For those who don’t know, I turned it off at the beginning of the problem with my motorcycle, back in Marabá. We suspected it might be something electrical on the motorcycle. In the end, it wasn’t. And we decided to leave it off to avoid any problems, even though I don’t think there’s anything wrong with the GPS. But since it’s a single road, you just have to be careful in the towns to avoid going the wrong way. Like I did in Novo Repartimento, I took the wrong exit, rode about 10 km on the wrong road and… It’ll scare someone else… A truck honked back there. So, what happens? What’s important to me about the GPS, what I miss, is that it shows me… how many kilometers are left, I don’t need to keep calculating with the odometer. So, look, 300, 200 and something left, and it shows the time, the estimated time, and it’s usually accurate. I already know I’ll have to add… some, a few extra minutes for stops, but I really like riding with the GPS. I forgot to mention. After the cylinder head was done, and the carburetor was adjusted, the motorcycle started getting 19, 20 km/l. Good fuel economy. I’ll film the motorcycle so I can show you. You have to get the camera here carefully, sometimes it doesn’t come out. I managed. So, everything alright? The little dashboard… The holes… The engine… So, my motorcycle is still leaking a little oil, probably from the o-ring. Look at the little hole… From the starter motor o-ring. So I’m topping it up. And to replace this o-ring, you have to take a lot of things apart. So we preferred to just top it up. Just be careful with the level, so it doesn’t go down. Look at all the holes here. Is the chain stretched? Tell me… tell me in the comments. Spotlight always on, and that’s how I’m checking the time now. Lê’s motorcycle is misfiring… and it’s a connection we’re looking for on the coil. Ignition coil. Want to put it on this side? There’s more shade. And off we go. Some… some reconnections were made. Now we’re going to… ride a little more, to see if it “worked”. Now it’s… 8:07. “It works”. He said it worked. Well, folks, at one of our stops… what happened? Lê took off his pouch and we… he noticed it was missing. So, it might have been left on a staircase at one of the places we stopped. We rode about 100 km, if I’m not mistaken, here we are, more or less, halfway between Rurópolis and Alter do Chão. So, we’re going to turn back and see what we decide, if we’ll have time to go back to Alter do Chão or if we continue to Fordlândia, which is now… 11:22. I don’t know if it’s worth it for us to go to Alter do Chão today, but these things happen, there’s no point in getting angry. Nobody does this on purpose. We were tense because the motorcycle was malfunctioning. I prayed to God that Lê’s fanny pack is here. We stopped here in the shade, next to the little church. Yeah, it’s not there. Maybe someone passed by and took it. I think we’ll have to ask someone. Is everything alright? Did you see if there’s a bag up there? Yeah, a fanny pack? Did anyone see it? Okay. Thank you. Well, thank God, we found the lost one. It’s much calmer now. The man turned white when he realized he was missing his fanny pack. His heart was in his stomach. I think he’s back to his normal self now. The next gas station is 140 km away. And since we’ve already driven a bit to get there, let’s put in some… some gasoline here. We bought it in bottles, they sell it right next door, just to be sure. Okay. All sorted. Thank God the lady kept Lê’s bag here with his cell phone and card. We bought a 2-liter bottle of gasoline for each motorcycle, and we’re at 100 and… ah, 200 km to Alter do Chão. The motorcycle should reach the gas station according to our calculations, but to be sure, we put in another liter of gasoline. It’s 12:30 now. There’s still time to get there, if everything goes well, there’s time to get to Alter do Chão and still enjoy the day a little. Man… Le Cappel stopped. Could his motorcycle have started misfiring again? Did it misfire? Is he falling? Is it the wire or the spark plug? The spark plug. Wouldn’t it be worth putting on that little orange spark plug cap? Because there was no spark at that time, because it was broken there. It was broken there. Let’s just pull over to some shade, otherwise we’ll die out of this sun. So let’s keep going for a bit, if it fails we’ll stop in the shade, if it doesn’t fail we’ll keep going. Okay. Well folks, the spark plug cap, apparently it’s loose. Loose? No… It’s not holding properly on the spark plug, you know? He fiddled with it again, let’s see if it fits. Didn’t solve it? And here we go. Oh, bye… He tightened the connections there. It’s very strange, because sometimes it works very well and other times it starts to fail. Well, what did we do this time? There’s the ignition coil, a wire and a spark plug cap, which is connected to the spark plug. So, what did we do? The spark plug cap that was on his motorcycle wasn’t holding very well on the spark plug. So, we removed the spark plug cap that was on his motorcycle and put in a spare one, which we brought in our luggage, to see if that solves the problem of this… this failure that’s happening on his motorcycle. Let’s hope it works. 1:30 (13:30) now. So, if it keeps malfunctioning, I think we’ll have to abort the trip to Alter do Chão and come back here to Rurópolis to see what we can do. But we’ll see. It’s coming back now. Now we have to do several tests. We’ve already changed the spark plug cap, we’ve checked the connections. What’s missing? Changing the spark plug, which doesn’t seem to be the problem, because it’s working at idle. Well, I don’t know if there could be something causing it to malfunction at high speed. It’s coming back. It probably malfunctioned, because it came back early. Did it malfunction? It’s still malfunctioning. I went to see if there’s somewhere we can stop the motorcycle. There’s a community about 1.5 km away. I’ll talk to Lê here so we can do things there, because soon the sun… the sun will turn and be right in our heads. It’s better to go to the community and sort everything out there. 1.5 km. It’s a community there. We’re doing another test. We noticed that the turn signal was sometimes working and sometimes not. We removed the turn signal relay to see if there might be some kind of short circuit… causing some current leakage. Hopefully that’s it. We’ll see. It fails more at high speeds. That’s why he rushed here to test it. So… it failed, and when he fiddled with the starter relay, it improved. We’re going to take the one from my bike and put it in his. One more test. Starter relay. We’ll see. But he’s already coming back here, before the end of the… the track. It probably didn’t work. Did it fail? Didn’t it fail? No, it failed, it didn’t improve. Well, I insisted that Lê get off the road and go to the community, so we don’t stay here, right? Otherwise, time will pass, it’s already 2:30 (14:30) and we’re stuck here on the road, so there’s support there, we can think more calmly. We haven’t had lunch either. A place where people can stop, in the shade, and try to figure out what happened. Good afternoon. Well, folks, we pulled over here, had some juice, ate some chips, there’s no lunch. Now we’re going to sit in the shade and see if… we can figure something out. We’re working hard here, folks. And it’s really hot here. Hey, Adriano, has anyone stopped here yet, some traveler or something, with a broken-down motorcycle? No. And here we go, to remove the tank from the Brooke Shield. Did you disconnect the hoses? Yes, they’re loose… And here’s a… a pesky little wire, a frayed little wire. You can’t see… very well. But it’s going… that way. Front brake. It lit up. Again. There it is. It lit up. There was a splice here. It was touching the… chassis. Hopefully that’s it. Let’s take the opportunity to change the spark plug and try to eliminate all possibilities. Are you getting the hang of blowing into the spark plug housing to remove it? It’s a human… compressor. Human compressor. Time for the test. It started. That’s a good start. So, did it work in the test? It worked, it became incredibly powerful. No, actually it was… it was a… a problem… it’s a technical problem, right? The brake wire, the rear brake sensor, touched the frame, and that’s affecting the entire power supply to the motorcycle. So it was misfiring, actually, I think it was… pulsing, jumping, and when it touched, it cut the current and it was misfiring. We redid it… first we discovered… Actually, it was you who discovered it. We discovered that was it, we fixed it, and while we were at it, we changed the spark plug. The spark plug wasn’t burning very well, but I think we’d been using a lot of bad gasoline. So… it was carbonizing. We changed the spark plug, we changed the coil cap, we fixed that wire, and now it’s good. And now, we’re going back to Rurópolis, it’s 54 km from here, and… and tomorrow we’ll continue the route, as it should be. Actually, sometimes we think, ” Ah, but why did this happen?” If we hadn’t tried to go to Alter do Chão today, this problem would have happened on the land portion of the Trans-Amazonian Highway. So, it’s better that it happened here than on land, and I think the tension would be higher there, making it harder for us to find details. Let’s hope that’s what happened, and… you’ll see in the next… in the next scenes. Adriano made some lemonade… to sweeten things up, right? Okay, let’s go. It ‘s now… 10 to 6 (5:50 PM), we’re going to take a stretch at night until we reach Rurópolis. But let’s take it easy. “Okay,” Mr. Adriano said. The folks here made us some juice… People playing ball… Slowly, this stretch is full of potholes. And let’s stick to the plan. We’re here at the end of the afternoon, 38 km to go. About 10 km to go. I think we’ll still have time to arrive during the day. And thank God, we’ve arrived here in Rurópolis again. It’s 6:30 now (6:30 PM), I made it here in time. Another day completed, thank God. So? Did yours go smoothly? Mine did, and yours? Mine went smoothly. Seriously? Seriously. I thought you were going slowly, trying to get the motorcycle here. No, I was actually waiting. Today there’s a conclusion. What is it? There’s a conclusion. As you saw… as you saw, my motorcycle had a problem, and I told Thiago: “Go ahead, you can go, we’ll meet up later.” So, for those of you who once went out with a partner and came back alone, you’ll only understand me the day you have a guy like this one, who never once said a word of disapproval, stayed with me, helped me with everything I needed, with the greatest goodwill I’ve ever seen. So, the day you have a partner like this, you’ll understand what it’s like to travel as a pair. If it weren’t for that, I wouldn’t even leave the house. I don’t think it would make any sense to leave you on the road and go to a beach alone, considering we’ve done this whole trip together. That wouldn’t make sense to me. So, for me, that’s part of the world of motorcycling. And wouldn’t it be great if everyone were like this, right? If everyone had this kind of partnership. And we’re together, we left São Paulo together, and whatever God wants, whether we’ll come back or not, only He knows. We’ll keep going. But now I’m sure that whatever happens, will happen together. Today was supposed to be a cool video, a beautiful video from Alter do Chão, which is a very beautiful place here. It wasn’t, but today’s lesson is partnership. I found a guy who ‘s a partner in everything, that’s priceless to me. So now, we’re going to rest here. We arrived at the hotel again, to clear our heads. It was just one day that wasn’t completed, but tomorrow, if everything went well until now, tomorrow we’ll head to a new destination. I hope you enjoyed it. If you liked it, leave a like. If you’re not subscribed, subscribe. And until the next video. Thanks and bye. Don’t forget to follow me on Instagram @thioronha and Le Cappel. Bye…
