[ 高野山 ] 紅葉の高野山で“壇上伽藍・金剛峯寺・奥之院”の三大スポットを日帰りで巡る旅|弘法大師空海|世界遺産|和歌山旅行
Good morning! This is Amo! Today, I’d like to explore the World Heritage Site in Wakayama. We’re going to visit Mount Koya. The three must-see spots in Mount Koya are— Okunoin, Danjo Garan, and Kongobuji Temple. Since it’s November now, I’d also like to see the autumn leaves. So then, Wakayama Vlog— Let’s get started! Here we go! The autumn leaves are starting to appear. Look! So beautiful. They’re just beginning to turn colors. It’s November… November 17th today. Look! Beautiful. Such a bright red! We’ve arrived! Look! The autumn leaves are stunning! Since “Danjo Garan” is the closest spot right now, I’ll head to “Danjo Garan” first. Wow! This is… the entrance to “Danjo Garan.” What is Danjo Garan? It’s the first site developed when Kobo Daishi Kukai founded Mount Koya. Inside the grounds, you’ll find the main temple “Kondo” and the “Konpon Daito” pagoda, which serve as the spiritual center. The Chumon Gate of Danjo Garan: Normally, temple gates are guarded by Nio statues, but here, the Four Heavenly Kings stand watch, protecting the four directions of the Buddha’s ideal world. Just past the entrance of Danjo Garan, there’s a large temple called “Kondo.” Here, and— this red pagoda, the “Konpon Daito.” It seems this is where monks gather to pray. Right now, inside here, I can hear monks chanting sutras. It’s incredibly tall! The symbol of Shingon Buddhism, the “Konpon Daito.” It took around 70 years to complete, and though it was destroyed several times by fire, it was rebuilt with the support of Tokugawa Iemitsu, Taira no Kiyomori, Toyotomi Hideyoshi, and others, standing as it does today. now we’re heading to “Kongobuji Temple.” Today is November 16th, by the way. The autumn leaves in Mount Koya are— starting to show their colors here and there. They’re beautiful. This path is called— the “Jabara-michi.” Look! Right ahead, you can see those red leaves. Once we pass through here— we should see “Kongobuji Temple.” Let’s go. I can see it now. Here it is, “Kongobuji Temple.” Many people visit “Kongobuji Temple.” This place is wonderful too. From the front, it looks really impressive. So beautiful… Now let’s go inside. What is “Kongobuji Temple”? Originally, the entire Mount Koya complex was called “Kongobuji,” but later the name was given to a temple built by Toyotomi Hideyoshi, and it became the name of a single temple as well. Oh, wow! It’s so spacious… The role of “Kongobuji Temple”: It serves as the head temple of Shingon Buddhism, overseeing all of Mount Koya. It still preserves the “Jodan-no-Ma” once used by emperors and the country’s largest stone garden. All of this is sesame tofu. Looks delicious… It even comes with seasoned rice. A specialty of Mount Koya, “sesame tofu” has long been cherished as an important source of nutrition in monks’ shojin ryori (vegetarian temple cuisine). Kakuhama’s sesame tofu is still used in the sacred offering meals (Shominku) dedicated to Kobo Daishi. It looks delicious. This is all tofu. Aside from this, there’s also seasoned rice and clear soup. Let’s eat! Sesame tofu. So chewy. This is delicious! So rich! Looks so good. Tasty! It’s like pudding. But somehow— the tofu flavor is really strong. Not very sweet. I just had Kakuhama’s sesame tofu. A whole tofu-based meal, and it was super tasty. But, it gets really crowded, so as soon as they open, go right away and make sure to grab a ticket and wait. That’s definitely the best way. As for the dessert, the peanut sesame tofu— honestly— I didn’t really like it much… But I think people who like it would enjoy it. The sesame tofu flavor was just too strong… So personally, it wasn’t my favorite. But you should definitely try it at least once! Now, we’re heading off by car to “Okunoin.” Let’s go!
