Leaving Longshan Temple behind, I decided to check out the fortune teller in the basement. I had my fortune read using a combination of Ziwei Doushu, popular in Taiwan, and Four Pillars of Destiny palm readings. I was told you have a positive personality, but you overthink things too much. That’s right. Yes. You’re a little shy. Yes. It seems you like to act alone. Oh, that’s right. You like it. Yes. Yes. You’re very independent. You’re a positive person. Oh, I see. Yes. You’re positive. You’re cheerful. You ‘ll meet people this year, next year, and the year after . You’re kind-hearted. You go out. You make a good impression on a lot of people. Oh, I see. Yes. Let me see your palm. Yes. Do you have a weak stomach? Oh, I do. Yes. Take your time when you eat. This is your life line . Yes. This is your wisdom line. (I was shocked at how short the wisdom line was.) Yes. This is your heart line. Yes. This is your financial luck. Which one is your intelligence? Well, this one is… long. This is your wisdom line. Is your wisdom… short…? LOL Not at all. Mine is even shorter. Ah. You’re the slow type. Oh, yes. Your wisdom is long, isn’t it? (Although it’s quite thin) But you’re a good kid. Are you a good kid? You like making money, don’t you? Yes. Ah, I don’t have any money, though. (I bet my entire salary on Taiwan) Isn’t this a job you really love, relative to your feelings? You don’t waste money? Yes. The thing you spend the most on is food. Oh, you spend it on Taiwanese food. Is it delicious? Wow. It seems like she doesn’t sleep very well. You were kind enough to even look up my mother’s birthday. Hmm… Goat? Sheep? Pisces. Oh, that’s not right. Um, if you’re the type of person who answers when asked about the zodiac sign, is everything else okay? It’s fine. The fortune-telling results were placed in a red envelope. The fee for over an hour was 2,000 NTD (10,000 JPY). Thank you to Dr. Zhang, who was so kind. I walked through the downtown area to Ximending. I recently came across a delicious chive steamed bun shop recommended to me by a Taiwanese couple I worked with . The menu included two types of steamed buns, porridge, and side dishes. I’ll eat inside the shop. Please give me one chive. Everyone was eating chives. I’d always wanted to try chive steamed buns. They were accompanied by the spicy miso-like seasoning on the table. The chives, cut into beautiful squares , were filled with egg and glass noodle filling. And speaking of delicious, they were truly amazing. I savored the flavor of the chives along with the crispy baked dough. I think the key to their deliciousness is the perfect size of the chives. I’m so grateful to the couple who recommended this restaurant. Thank you, it’s so delicious! Bye-bye-bye , I headed to Bopiliao to work up an appetite. This street boasts over 200 years of history, preserving the red brick architecture of the Qing Dynasty and the commercial buildings of the Japanese colonial period. Passing the retro red bricks and movie signs, I found myself lost in the red-light district. Bangka had a red-light district from the 19th to early 20th centuries. The sad yet glamorous world of the red-light district, reminiscent of Japanese courtesans, seemed like art, but the background music, along with its sensual expression , made it seem like a work of art. Looking inside, there was no one there . I walked around the city, taking in the hustle and bustle of Bangka. Not far from the impression I had from the movie, the downtown area was filled with locals and a lively, energetic atmosphere. Speaking of which, I stopped at a pepper bun shop at the end of a dimly lit back alley. Unfortunately, it was closed today. Are you Japanese? Yes, I am. I was frustrated to hear only “Today and Pork.” Maybe they’re sold out today . Ah… I want to speak Chinese… The stuffy heat and the exhaust fumes from passing motorcycles filled the air. The smell of steam from the street stalls draws locals. This is the very heart of downtown. The shopkeepers’ energetic voices are loud, and the energy of the people themselves is a warmth. I made my way through the incredibly deep streets to my lodgings. The tiny elevators were a bit small, and I’d always wanted to stay at this hotel. It was a weekend, and it wasn’t cheap, but with Longshan Temple next door , it felt like a part of downtown Bangka. It was clean, and had everything I needed: tea, snacks, and of course, a refrigerator. I opened the blinds to enjoy the magnificent view of Longshan Temple , read my fortune, and relax at the lodgings. I’d had a bit too much to drink that night, but the sight of Longshan Temple in the middle of the night was magical . Gazing at the temple bathed in the morning sun , I felt refreshed, and another day in Taiwan began. It seemed a typhoon was approaching Kaohsiung in a few days. The Monka Hotel was comfortable. After breakfast , I said goodbye to Bangka . With the birds chirping in the air, I left Bangka and headed back to the restaurant I’d eaten at two years ago. The braised pork rice is delicious, but the soup here is exquisite and I’ve always wanted to try it again. The braised pork rice is a glossy, burnt-colored dish with pork and cucumber broth. It felt richer than when I had it two years ago. The braised pork rice had a strong salty flavor and a rich, rich texture. The shiitake mushrooms and other ingredients add a rich depth to the broth. Even the small portion is substantial, and I’m happy to say it only cost 200 yen. The long-awaited soup was just as excellent as ever. It was soy sauce-based with a sweet, Shaoxing wine-like flavor. The soft pork dumplings and the well-seasoned cucumber added a nice accent. For someone who often struggles with Taipei’s bland flavors, both dishes had a satisfyingly salty and sweet taste, making for a delicious breakfast. Happy mornings, delicious food, soup , massages , and even drinking snake blood. Leaving the charming, shady Huaxi Street, where I could enjoy delicious food and drink snake blood, I headed to Keelung, the port town where my grandmother lived.

Welcome to taiwan❤
卜卦…but…
Welcome to Keelung 🎉
