Welcome to Nuremberg (Nürnberg), home to one of the most famous Christmas markets in the world! This tour takes you through the Old Town’s most famous markets and squares, starting here on the Fleischbrücke bridge. The Pegnitz River flows right through the center of Nuremberg’s Old Town. This stone bridge was rebuilt in the 16th century, crossing the Pegnitz River at the site of the former medieval meat market To the left, a large sculpture of an ox sits above the former entrance to Nuremberg’s medieval meat market. Christkindlesmarkt is a specific, traditional term meaning “Christ Child Market.” The main market, the Christkindlesmarkt, is located here in the Hauptmarkt, the central square in Nuremberg’s Old Town. The Nuremberg Christmas Market dates back to the mid-16th century, making it one of the oldest in Germany. The earliest evidence of the Christkindlesmarkt dates from 1628. With about two million visitors a year, the Nürnberger Christkindlesmarkt is one of the largest in Germany. The market typically begins on the Friday preceding the first Sunday in Advent and runs until Christmas Eve. The Frauenkirche clock in Nuremberg is famous for its mechanical show called the Männleinlaufen (“The Little Men’s Dance”). The clock and figures were added in 1509, long after the church was built (the church dates to the 1350s). Once per day at noon, the figures come to life. A small trumpeter and drummer signal the start. The procession honors Nuremberg’s prestige in the Holy Roman Empire, marking the city’s role as an administrative and ceremonial center. The market is open from 10 am to 9 pm Monday to Sunday, closing at 2 pm on Christmas Eve. The Christkindlesmarkt is dubbed the ‘little city of wood and cloth,’ referring to the market stalls. There are a total of 147 booths that are either Food and Drink, Gift Articles, Prune Men or Christmas Decorations. Stalls typically sell artisanal craft products like Christmas decorations. The Gothic Frauenkirche (Our Lady’s Church) provides a dramatic backdrop for the market. Construction of the ornate church took place between 1352 and 1362. Gingerbread is one of the most traditional products here at the market. Zwetschgenmännle (Prune Men) are made of prunes and are said to have been invented in Nuremberg in the 18th century Once, the figures would have been eaten, but now most stalls have signs saying they are not for consumption. Every Christmas market includes a manger scene with Baby Jesus at the center. That’s good. I’m glad they haven’t forgotten the reason for the season!

Irgendwie ist es ja doch jedes Jahr das selbe.Gleiche (langweilige) Hütten,gleiche Aufmachung und gestiegene Preise. Finde den Christkindlesmarkt generell völlig Überbewertet. Das Video hier ist aber sehr gut,weiter so:-)
