【瀬戸内】美しい島と街を歩く2泊3日|倉敷|直島|地中美術館|VLOG

Stepping into Kurashiki, with its white walls and rows of willow trees , feels like a time-travel. Around noon, I realize I haven’t eaten anything since breakfast. I’m not sure if it’s because I’m traveling or if it’s just me , but I’m hungry, so I’ll start with lunch. The rice, eggs, and soy sauce are all sourced from Okayama Prefecture. You can have as many refills as you like. Raw egg rice is easy to make when you don’t feel like cooking at home, but eating it at a restaurant feels special. This jar contains kinira soy sauce. It has a mellow, slightly sweet flavor without any sharp spiciness. It pairs perfectly with eggs. The Ohashi Family Residence, a Nationally Designated Important Cultural Property, is a large landowner’s home, with a history of developing new fields and engaging in financial services. It’s said that the family’s ancestors served the Toyo family and hid near Gojo Ohashi Bridge in Kyoto after the fall of Osaka Castle, hence the name Ohashi . Let’s take a walk along the river. Okayama , the peach-fruit kingdom I’ve always wanted to visit . Fruit lovers will be fascinated by this. Winter whitening and lemon parfait. A menu exclusive to the Kurashiki main store. A bowl containing a whole peach costs 2,970 yen, so why not reward yourself for always working hard? The interior is filled with antiques and features glass art by Miel Gallé. I ate it all in one go. Thank you for the meal. Now, let’s continue our stroll around town. Okayama’s Kojima Jeans Street, the holy land of jeans , is famous, but Kurashiki also has many denim shops. The retro shops and atmosphere make for a fun stroll. In the evening, we headed to the shrine. Climbing the long stone grove leads to a famous sunset spot with a panoramic view of Kurashiki’s old townscape. Let’s go for an evening stroll. I immediately found a restaurant that caught my eye. The sign put me in the mood for kushikatsu. We toasted with Mon Sour. I’m not a big drinker, so I get drunk easily. I came all the way to Okayama, so why not have kushikatsu? But the flavor is quite good, even at a small local bar like this . Good value, great atmosphere. After a quick drink, we continued our nighttime stroll around town. We headed to the Mitate district at night. Though it wasn’t as lively as it was during the day, I could hear the sounds of people enjoying their meal from the lit-up buildings. I made a quick detour before heading back to the hotel. It was closed when I saw it in the evening, but it opened at 8 p.m.—a lifesaver for late-night dining. Kushikatsu makes you want to say, “Oh, Osaka!”, but solo travel is all about doing what you want. Having a late-night meal at the hotel felt like something special. On the second day, I traveled by ferry. My destination was Naoshima, an island of art floating in the Seto Inland Sea. The small paths lead to the islanders’ living spaces. I moved quietly. I had breakfast at a small coffee stand. I walked around the island. I completely forgot to reserve a rental bicycle. I climbed the hills, enjoying the scenery as I leisurely walked, and arrived. I took photos with a nearby foreigner. I didn’t quite explain how to use the camera properly. Now, after exploring the exhibits, it was time for a break. Luckily, I got a seat by the window with a great view. Ah, museum cafes are so wonderful. Next, I resumed my island walk, heading for the Benesse House Museum. It was mid-November. The sunshine was pleasant during the day. Walking, listening to the sound of the waves, and strolling around the area, was probably the right choice. Before I knew it, I’d walked nearly 20,000 meters. That’s about three times my usual distance. Ice cream after all that walking is the best. I said goodbye to Naoshima before the sun went down. I felt like I’d cleansed my mind and reset my daily routine. Looking for dinner near Okayama Station, I found Isshoan, a ramen shop with delicious noodles and sake that’s only found in Okayama Prefecture. If you’re unsure, just order the top left menu item. Or so I thought, but I accidentally pressed the order button and ended up with salt ramen instead of soy sauce. My favorite thin noodles. Let’s eat. It was light, but incredibly flavorful. I also secretly ordered rice. I submerged the nori seaweed in the soup and ate it together. Ramen and rice are such a delicious combination. I took the Momotaro Line to Kibitsu Shrine, where the story of the defeat of Ura, said to be the origin of the Momotaro legend, is told . It’s tempting to try a fortune slip, isn’t it ? I chose the flower fortune slip. The place was larger than I expected, so I took my time looking around and rested until my train arrived. Drinking amazake at a sweet shop like this is so comforting. Okayama even has a streetcar. The Okayama Tramway has a history of over 100 years, dating back to the Meiji era. This is today’s lunch venue. The restaurant has a nostalgic Showa-era Chinese restaurant feel. I was recommended the special set meal, so I decided to try it. Their specialty is the yadore-dori chicken and mapo tofu. I’m excited to eat it. I ‘m running out of rice. While yadore-dori chicken is usually topped with green onions, this one has a crispy texture. I heard it’s topped with fried onions instead of green onions. The sweetness of the onions and the sauce are a perfect match. The mapo tofu also has a numbing spiciness from the sansho pepper, making it a delicious rice dish. It felt like I was blending into the local Chinese food scene, sitting side by side with office workers . Thank you for the meal. Unusually, my stomach still had room. So I decided to try one more. Yamachin’s pork buns, filled with fillings, were on sale in the souvenir corner of the station. While I was there, I might as well try some freshly made at the main store. The last stop on my trip was Okayama Castle and Korakuen Garden. Here I quietly enjoyed the Okayama atmosphere.
