Taiza, Kyoto (京丹後市間人) – Taiza Onsen Sumihei (間人温泉 炭平) Sanzenhou (燦然峰) room tour 2025 Nov. 19

So this is in Kyo Tango which is an area in Kyoto prefixure. And believe it or not, Kyoto does uh does extend to the um sea of Japan or um otherwise known as also east sea on the so the west side of the main island of Honshoot. And um so like areas in Ishkawa Prefixure um Fukui and others and Hyo they do have crab snow crab generically known as zuagani and so we’re here to have one of the king of those crabs taagani. Taiza is a small village in Kyoteno. Most of Kil Tango is in a peninsula. Um, before I get into that, this is uh uh the private baths. There’s a row of them uh beyond that. If it’s available, you can just go in and uh if the light is on, it means someone’s in there. If it’s off, you’re welcome to go in. So, we’re staying at Taisa Onsen Sumi, a 21 room luxury dioan, uh known for serving the famed Tais crab, which is a very high-end uh delicacy even among the uh the uh red snow crab variety in Japan, as in the case of Pyogo and other prefixures that face uh the west side. Uh the season is very well it’s not short but it’s from uh the second week of November until u early March and that’s the only time you’re allowed to have it. And so ta crab is it’s all the same species but they have different um supposedly connoisseurs can taste the difference. Before I go into that so this is a room called Sanzenhole. It used to be the top category room. Um, again, Taen Sumi is 21 rooms. And um, the reason it used to be is uh, they’re building a new higher category room called Unan, which there it’s a duplex um, two units. And then they also have an annex building in uh in the island nearby uh which you go by car. It’s a by the same people who who operate this doon but it has its own reception and dining area and everything like that. So anyways this is um the sunen hall room. Uh you can see that has very high ceilings. So this yokan has been around for a while. This area the crab is does stand alongside um chisen gani which is from fukui which is also renowned. And so this is a junior suite style layout as you can see. This is the bed. This is the living space. again, um it’s 78.6 square meters. Um in Japan, the uh area includes the deck. So, just something to keep in mind. It seems like that’s a prevalent thing in Asia. So, anyway, so so they have a red snow crab course. Uh um it’s not they get it from this immediate area, an area of Taisa. Now, Taisa crab, Taizakani, even if you get it in Taisa, it’s not designated specifically as Taani. It’s a special brand that determined by the I don’t know the association or whatnot. And it has to be a certain size and um it has to be flawless in different areas. And I guess the people who know crap can see the difference in quality by just looking at them. And so even by staying here, you have to um uh they only guarantee one group of guests per night. And you have to specifically ask for the kiwame course, which actually is the actual ta gi. Again, it’s it’s the same species um caught in the same area, but you know, if it matters to you, I guess there is a rhyme and reason to why Tais crab is different from the rest. And um so they only guarantee it to one group of guests. And so if you try to book it and and under the plan um kiwami course is not available at all. It means someone already got it and that’s it because they don’t get um that many per day. just not just here, just overall. So, um just something to keep in mind. So, this is Taumi. This is our first time here. We’re excited to try it out. And um yeah, this is uh Sanzenhole, 78.6 m. This onsen is uh it’s not straight from this direct from the source uh from underground. It’s uh and it is recirculated. So all the um uh accommodations in this area of Taisa get it from one source and um and they truck it in. And so uh that’s I guess that’s the only way they can do it. I don’t know if they actually tried digging underground or not, but there look there’s an indoor outdoor bath. There is a nice view out from here, although there is a power line a little bit in the distance. Um, so anyways, we’re looking forward to the crab course. Uh, I am personally staying in a room called Kina, which is a smaller room. Uh, I’m going to go take a look at it here. This is for uh my wife and her mother. All right. Sansenho at Taisa Onsen Sumi.
