2 Days on America’s $700 Sleeper Train! | 🇺🇸 Seattle – Los Angeles

Thanks for trifa for sponsoring this video. Today we ride Amtrak’s legendary sleeper train, the Coast Starlight from Seattle to Los Angeles, tracing the edge of the Pacific Ocean next to beaches and waves. Please enjoy the trip! Good afternoon. We are not in Seattle but in Narita Airport. Today we’re going to head to Seattle. My pre-departure ritual. I switch my phone to an eSIM. I’m going to try using the Japanese eSIM ‘trifa’ this time, instead of a rental Wi-Fi device. It looks like we can set this up in just 4 steps. 1. Let’s download it. It’s easy to navigate the app. 2. You can select the country, days, and data, then proceed to make a payment. No need to pick it up or return it like a rental wifi. It’s all done before you take off. Fill in your credit card detail and the ‘coupon code’ I’ve got a special SOLOSOLO coupon! A special 5% OFF coupon! Limit one per person. Unlike rental Wi-Fi, it’s completely hassle-free. 3. Install the esim by following instructions. The eSIM is now activated, and installed! Passport, boarding pass and trifa. Ready to go. Hello from the United States of America. Seattle! Land of Starbucks. Right after arrival, 4.Turn on Data Roaming. YES! 4G popped up instantly. It’s my first time using trifa’s eSIM, and everything’s been easy and stress-free so far. No need to search for airport Wi-Fi and no SIM-card swapping. You can also use your iPhone as a hotspot to share Wi-Fi with your other devices. Let’s see how well the eSIM is for navigation, YouTube, searches, and translations Since trifa uses the local carrier’s network, the connection is stable. It’s really reassuring to have data access in a foreign country where you don’t know your way around. Plus, you can check your remaining data in real time. It also helps you keep track of your data usage. There’s also excellent chat support if you ever need help. Thanks trifa! We are here at King Street Station, Seattle. Today we’ll be riding America’s famous sleeper train, the “Coast Starlight” for the next 35 hours. This is the route for the journey. 35 hours from Seattle to LA, covering 1,377 miles (2,200 km). Day 1 starts with patches of red and gold from Seattle to Portland, with Mount Rainier floating in the distance. Day 1 starts with patches of red and gold from Seattle to Portland, with Mount Rainier floating in the distance. The Cascades is a steady climb, weaving through dense, shadowed forest. On day 2 California opens into wide valleys brushed with bold, earthy reds. And the journey ends along the Pacific, blue water and cliffs sliding by with palm trees lining the shore. The last time I booked a room it was
$1000+ but because the prices are dynamic… The prices today were $686 USD. Expensive but it comes with complimentary breakfast, lunch dinner, unlimited shower, and most importantly, private views. I booked my ticket 2 weeks prior. Let’s board the train! This is the train we will be riding for the next 35 hours. “The Coast Starlight 11.” There are 2 types of Amtrak sleeper trains. The Superliner. And the Viewliner. The “Coast Starlight” is a double-decker Superliner. I’ve never had the chance to sit on the upper decks of these super liners. Car 1430 – Room 14. I will not be using the legendary toilet room this time around. That’s good news. “The coastal starlight” This coast starlight was the first train that I rode in America so it’s a memorable one. Time to board this legendary sleeper train. That room is the room that makes this train legendary. I’m on the same floor as the legendary room today. I hope I don’t experience what
I experienced 3 years ago. 3 years ago? Wow. Time does fly by quickly. Room 14. This is your standard roomette room. Sniff sniff. Wow. It smells normal. YES! The room in the Coastal Starlight that smells normal. What a treat. Christmas came early. I made it to the observation deck
and the train departs just in time. The Seattle Mariners home field. I know that they made it to the playoffs this year. At this point in time I don’t know if they won the whole thing or not. Good bye Seattle. I can’t believe it’s this sunny in Seattle Wow, why am I kinda excited than ever. Let’s return to my room. oh…that room is… My window is blessed with golden hues of sunshine. Look at all those colorful trees. Guys I love autumn. The crisp air. Not humid. The trees. Everything is perfect. Let’s do a room tour. The rooms can be used by 2 people so there are 2 seats. The seats are refurbished, still nice to the touch. Beside the seat is the control panel. This has all kinds of stuff going on. Call button There is a power outlet. This is actually the only power outlet in the room, so I advice bring one of these. More ports. There’s also a table that’s holding on to its dear life. It needs an ACL surgery. It’s faint but it’s used for chess or post Covid eat in your room dining service. And here’s the Amtrak menu as well. A slim Closet with Towels, and hangers inside. Tissue. Water. A small container. And there is room for storage. Under the seat. And if it doesn’t fit there. It sits right on the steps of the upper bed. And if it doesn’t fit in there you can place in on the storage area. The seat will turn into a bed at night. The items are hidden inside the upper bed. A blanket. A pillow. And the mattress. There’s also a sliver of
views on the upper bunk bed. And this hammock thing. For a fan favorite for people. I don’t know if it’s autumn but the room is not too cold nor too hot. Just right. The conductor is coming by to hand out reservation tickets for lunch. There were 3 options so I went with the earliest option. We made it Tacoma. Our first stop of many. Absolute crickets. No one’s here. My neighbor wants to upgrade to the accessible room. Oh no. As a former user of that room, I do not recommend it. I forgot to mention but there’s also a trash can. What is that cloud? It’s like gasoline. A quick look at the menu. Meals are included in the ticket. Lunch, Dinner, Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. Wow, is that Mount Rainier??? Standing at 14,410 ft (4,390 m), it is the tallest mountain in the state of Washington. It’s amazing what the weather can do. New experience on a train I’ve been on before. The toilet is on the same floor as my room. There’s also a shower room. Bath towel. I got a good car. There’s amenities. Even conditioners are here. We’re entered the rural parts of the trip. The train is taller than most buildings here. I wonder what it’s like to live here. There’s a really flat mountain. I wonder if that’s Mount St. Helens. (It was) Let’s head to the dining car. Lunch time We’re at the dining car. This is the lunch menu. Seats are shared. The meals are complimentary for sleeper train passengers and $25 dollars for coach passengers. I ordered the Angus burger. The burger is the best choice on the menu. The Melted cheese on the patty is the good stuff. The colors are so nice. Is this what it feels like working at McDonald’s? Let’s eat. I wouldn’t be surprised if this burger has over 1000kcals. Good thing I got Diet Coke. One of the best things that America invented. Burgers. I remember it tasting a bit better the last time I had this burger. (It’s because this dumb dumb didn’t apply any condiments.) Dessert. 3 years ago they used to serve real dessert not this packaged stuff. It’s a sad reality of Amtrak. Instead of the lemon cake I had 3 years ago. I got the brownie. I’m on a diet so this is going to hit me like a truck. It taste like a cake. astes like America. 301kcal. Thanks for the food. This is the Columbia river. I know nothing about the Columbia river but it does sound important. It’s so cozy in the observatory deck. I’m feeling sleepy for some reason. (It’s 4am in Japan.) The weather is so nice and the sun is blasting my face off. We made it to Vancouver, USA. The inferior version of Vancouver, Canada. A handful of people got off here. The last stop at Washington state. Welcome to Portland. It’s a different world when the suns out. Last time I didn’t even bother to look outside. Good stuff. There will be no wifi on board so I’ll be relying on our sponsor trifa. We can get the data at the train now. Good news is that America, even in the middle of nowhere has decent service. We’ve still got a long way to go to L.A. Long stop here at Portland. We stop for 30-40 minutes. Maybe I’ll buy a souvenir. The t shirts were 45 dollars last time I came here. Let’s see how much it is now. Wait, it’s cheaper now? This doesn’t sound like capitalism to me. We’re here at Oregon right now. This state has a 0% sale tax rate. I wonder if people who live in cities bordering Oregon like Vancouver cross the state for like daily groceries. The last time I visited this place the furthest I walked was there. Can I see a new record? Okay, there’s a ton of tents there I don’t think it’s safe to walk there. Let’s change directions. Wait, it’s kinda sketchy here. Homelessness is real around this area. I was able to cross 4 intersections. That’s a new record. California Zephyr, Coast Starlight, Empire Builder. I’ve been on all 3 trains. We are in Portland. Wow, this place looks cool. San Francisco, then Los Angeles. Alright, let’ go. The clear sky continues. It was cloudy around this area 3 years ago so this is new, Crossing the Williamette River. The rural landscape of America. Wow did you guys see that. A Denny’s. We might see something cool. SCHOOL BUS. ANOTHER ONE. I’ve seen a house like that in Django Unchained. 5 school buses. We’re hitting the jackpot. And we get a mountain view of Mount Hood. That is one red tree. It’s like it’s on fire. America has 5g in the middle of absolutely no where. (Sorry if it wasn’t actually no where) I want to pass by a suburban town again. Maybe I can find a 7/11 or something. Yes, this is pretty nice. Cruising across the country. Turning off your brain. Just staring at this landscape. Distant mountains. My dinner will start from 5:30. Arriving at Eugene. Our last stop before crossing the mountains. It’s a 10 minutes stop so I went outside and stretched my legs. Today really is a great day. Not a cloud in sight. It’s time for my 5:30 dinner. It’s 45 dollars for coach passengers. The appetizers looks interesting. Main course is… Steak. Chicken. Salmon. Pasta. kids menu 2 kinds of dessert For dinner, there’s a complimentary alcohol. I’ve already decided. So I ordered a glass of red wine. Appetizers first. This is the pearl tempura shrimp. Large premium shrimp. Wow they’re more pearled than what I expected. With chili sauce. Looks like they got rid of the coconut crumbs. Solo solo approves. Here comes the main dish. Amtrak signature iron steak. In medium rare. Medium rare? I don’t know. I managed to eat that giant steak completely. Dessert time. I got the cheese cake. This probably has 400kcals at least. This cake is worth 10000 steps. Tastes like America. Going back to my room with some tea. Today was a long day. It’s still 7pm but because of the jet lag. I’m a tired boy. I’m going to sleep. Going to get ready for sleep. Yay for bedding. Wow I’m really sleepy. I can’t think straight. I guess that means I’ll be waking up extra early tomorrow. See you in the morning. Good nighters. While I was sleeping, it looks like the train as
crossed the borders and now we’re in California. Mount Shasta. Because we’re in the middle of no where we can see stars. We as in I because I don’t think the
camera can capture the low light. Good morning, it’s 5 am. I slept without showering
yesterday so I will shower now. There’s still conditioner, this is good. The water flow is better
than my hotel from yesterday. Which is good. What a great shower it was. Arriving in Sacramento. 6:25 It’s 8 degrees outside. (46f) Quiet chilly. I can even see my own breath. Hydration is important. Breakfast starts early in Amtrak. 6:30am. I’ll take advantage of my jet lag and eat early. Sharing a seat today with someone from Brazil. This train carries a lot of passengers. Very international. For breakfast I got the Amtrak’s
signature railroad French toast. Look at the amount of strawberries French toast. Now this is a good way to start my day. Look at that gorgeous sunrise. Today is going to be a sunny day so it’s going to be great. The toast is great so far. I’ve already finished my entire calorie budget for the day. Thanks for the food! Look at the fog. What a nice treat to my already nice breakfast. Here comes the sun! Good morning California! Beautiful. Just beautiful. Wow there are now palm trees. Feels like California. The famous Napa valley is on the
others side of those mountains. In a blink of an eye, we went from scenery to GTA. In about half an hour, we
will arrive in Emeryville. The coach seats are apparently really good. The coach seats got refurbished as well. Look how nice they look. I was told they were better than
the seats on the bedroom suites. Plenty of legroom as well. Greyhound can’t compare. ??? What’s with all the fog all the sudden. Wowzers. What a view. Emeryville station. Connection stop for San Francisco and the starting point for Amtrak’s California Zephyr train. Oakland station. I wipe the window seat and Wowzers. That’s a lot of dirt. This is what happens when you’re
traveling hours across the continent. By the way we are about 2/3 of the trip. 12 more hours to go! I think I ate breakfast a bit too early. I’m hungry already. What should I get for lunch. I ate the burger so I want to try something else. Grilled patty melt… Hmm… Don’t think I’ve had that before. Angus beef, caramelized onions. Sounds delicious. I think I’ll go with this. 2 more hours until lunch! We’re passing by a what looks like a reservoir? I don’t know. But the waters are super still. It’s beautiful. San Jose station. The conductor is coming around
to take lunch reservations. I hope they still do take away. I kinda want to eat in my room. They still do. Yay! The sky looks warm compared to Seattle. Not the clouds you’ll see in winter. We are 1300km (800 miles) south of our starting point. What are these small lakes anyways. They’re all over the place. There are birds that I’ve never seen before. Train stops in the middle of nowhere. Something like this is due
when riding an Amtrak train. Oh the engines are back on. My lunch has arrived. 🎉 Smells good. This is the grilled patty melt. I don’t know if 2 pieces are enough. Let’s eat. Wow this is some good stuff. Oh no I already finished 1 piece. Enjoying the Californian sand
as scenery as a backdrop. The sandwich was better than the burger! Thanks for the food! I forgot about the existence of this desert. Butter cake. Glad to have you because I’m hungry. Not bad. The scenery is starting to look
a lot like the butter cake. Wow a real life pumpjack. I’ve only seen them in movies. There was an oil rush like
the gold rush in California. A lot of oil prospectors were actually
former gold prospectors who switched careers when they realized black goo
was easier to dig than shiny rocks. The pump jacks are some of the
oldest in America apparently. I’m feeling tired. Can I take a nap for like an hour? Thanks. Intersecting with the
northbound Coastal Starlight. Woah to the palm trees. And a 7/11!? That’s a double score. San Luis Obispo station. A few more miles and we’ll finally get a look at
the. Pacific Ocean for the first time in the trip! The part of the window that I cleaned
in the morning is already dirty. 😩 A body of water! It’s the Pacific Ocean. On the other side is home. It’s probably like the morning right now. Dinner is ready. A very nice option from Amtrak. Sleeper train passengers are allowed to eat inside their room. Today’s menu is this. My first meal is… Is… Pearl tempura shrimp! Again! By the way, the other side of the train has the ocean views. Be sure to book odd number seats on this route for the ocean views! This shrimp that I’m eating right now could’ve been swimming freely in the ocean right now. Makes you think. My next meal is also from the ocean. Not the pacific but the Atlantic. This is the main course, Atlantic salmon. There’s a mountain on the other side of the ocean. That must be Japan. Santa Barbara station. What a way to end the day. If we’re in schedule, we still have about 2 hours of the journey left. The beautiful coast sides of California. After 35 hours of rail travel, we are almost at our destination. Los Angeles. I’m sleepy!!!!! Help!!! We did it. 20 minutes early. Second time going from Seattle to La but
this trip feels better for some reason. Arrival in Los Angeles. I’ve heard nothing good about the walking the streets of LA at Night so I will be using Uber to head to my hotel. I found out I can take the bus, so I’ll wait for it now. Oh no. The fact there’s a cctv is concerning. There’s a guy stretching his legs beside my hotel. The final boss. Kawada hotel. I’ll be staying here for 2 Days. It was 130USD for a night. I’m so tired, good night. Good morning from Los Angeles. Now that I have unlimited data I can do a lot of things. Through I don’t need unlimited data to open maps. Unlimited data. Thank you very much don’t need to worry about how much data I have left. Angels flight railway. Shortest railway in the world at 298ft. Closed for maintenance? ????? Historically, it was used to help residents get up the steep slope without hiking. It was a hike of over a minute. It’s 25 degrees right now. Feels like summer came back for seconds. My neck is melting. Look food trucks. What the heck is a hibachi anyway. It’s like the food that represents western Japanese cuisine like teriyaki. From what I’ve searched, there’s a famous market near my hotel. A school bus. Is already noon so… I’m feeling burritos for lunch. I found a world class cheese grater. It’s one of those autonomous cars. I did find the grand central market. The food here looks pretty good. Smells good. But the tacos place do not have prices on them. Maybe I’ll come back after eating lunch. I found a good Mexican place. This place. Sonaratown. This is the burrito 2.0. What in the leek. Don’t know the reason for it being 2.0 but it does smell good. Holy moly. It’s been 2 years since I’ve had a burrito this good. All hail burritos. They’re like a drug. The salsa is just simply goodz Thanks for the leek! LA really feels like the extended version of Mexico City. Though I haven’t been there. The cities feel beat down. And there’s a ton of Mexicans. I’m back at the grand market. I think I’ll try some donuts. Alright it’s 2pm. There’s apparently a place called little Tokyo. It’s only a 10 minute walk
so let’s give it a visit. I still have time so I’ll give it a try. What the heck. There’s a Kura sushi. I’m still feeling hungry and that’s a problem. Hmm As a conveyor belt sushi connoisseur I must give it a visits. Wait 15 plates for a prize?!?!? 4 dollars?!?!?! yes, it’s 4 dollars! No way they’re charging 3.90 dollars for
tea that I can get for free in Japan. Everything is 4 dollars. The scallop and the tuna. Are the same price. Now that’s some equality going on. I got the fire dragon roll. And some other Americanized sushi’s This is apparently known as the Kura roll. 😭😭😭😭 American Japanese Beef?!?!? I can’t eat any more food. That burrito is doing wonders. So this is the famous LA traffic. It really is bad. sorry for the people living here. I made it to Amtrak Union Station. When you think of America you think of sports. baseball. There’s a championship game series that happens   to be taking place today only a few kilometers away from here. What a sight. One of the most American things all packed together in one sight. Well, Time to buy a dodgers hat so I don’t stand out. This is a nice stadium. It was 200 dollars. Look at those mountain views. Wow. For some reason, I was able to manage
to get tickets for a day ohtani pitches. It’s oh oh ohtani. I am expecting no less than a perfect game. And a cycle hit. Playball! It’s over. My perfect game dream is over. Struck out the side but my dream~~~ !!!! What the heck. He’s been deadweight this post
season and he’s starting to live up to his potential when I’m in the stands?!? No way this is just some coincidence. Holy. This is the greatest game I’ve watched live. That ball went out of the ball park?!?!? He’s incredible on the mound as well. What in the world is going on… 10th strike out? Pretty good. No way this is real. 3rd hr??!!!?!!!? ?!?!?!?!???????? I’m actually not that impressed for some reason. The fact that this seems normal is not normal. It’s over before it’s over. Our Japanese closer is about to finish the game. He’s younger than me and has the weight of LA, Japan, and baseball on his shoulders. These guys really are the real deal. The fact I just witness the greatest
post season performance live. Ohtani and company sweep the beer team. Guys I don’t even like the dodgers. They’re too strong. Well time to return to my hotel. This is in the bus…lol See you tomorrow. LA day 2. Today I’ll head to the northern area. Around Hollywood. Just want to check if the shortest
railway train is operating today. I think it is. It’s $.75 for the quick ride. This is pretty cool. Well that was quick. Now let’s head to Hollywood. The fact there’s no one here is scary. It’s really not that bad. It’s really clean. New York City is much worse. Smells like cake in here. Did I hear a Sushiro notification? I made to Hollywood. Wowza. My first Hollywood sign that I witness goes to… This person. Congratulations. Hollywood. There really isn’t much to do here
other than stare at the floor. A street out and there’s nothing going on. This city feels like a movie set. Let’s go for lunch. I’ve heard this is like the Ichiran Ramen of LA. In-n-out burger. Here is what I got. The double double in animal style. If it’s good I’ll get one more for to go.
Hmm… It’s ok. I’m a burrito believer so
this isn’t enlightenment. It’s a burger. Officially certified as the Ichiran of LA. What should I do next… Well it’s time to search for
that second burrito of the trip. Holy moly. Look at that line. I’ve met people who travel in this
smartphone era that didn’t have data. How is that possible? More floors. The data I had was so helpful, and I felt really secure on this trip.. Thanks trifa. I was able to find the sign. It’s really small from the streets. Well i think that’s about it for this trip. Nice autumn colours. Beautiful scenery.
Burrito. Historic baseball game. This was a good trip. Btw this tacos is mid. It was 12 dollars😩. Thanks for watching. Have a nice day!

  1. The views are amazing !! What a beautiful country. But that train, it needs some serious work 😂 food looked great though

  2. Great trip! Thank you.
Next visit to LA try to go to Universal City Walk.
You can also journey to Orange County. A lot to do…
    Until your next video😊👋

  3. Just an FYI. The river you crossed in Portland is the Willamette, not Williamette. The name is of Native American origin, and the emphasis is on the second syllable (will-AM-ette).

  4. That Klamath Falls ad with a pic of Crater Lake is like Sacramento using pics of San Francisco for tourism.

  5. Being you have travelled to many countries which is your favorite? Our trains look so outdated compared to the ones over in Asia. You ate dinner at noon???

  6. Was going to boycott watching this video seeing you are a dodgers fan. The blue jays fan in me cannot stand them. But it's the Amtrak so no can do 😅

  7. The only good tasting item at In-N-Out is the toasted cheese sandwich with grilled onions. Not on the menu, but they will make it.

  9. Yeah, I finally got 5G in my little Northern Michigan town, I feel like I’m somebody now 😂

  10. first time commenting on your videos ever since I started watching your videos half a year ago:p this is honestly another great one and I can't wait for your next release!
