パキスタン北部の羊飼いの村の中 🇵🇰 | バルティスタン山脈
Right now, we are about to head up into the mountains And we’re going to visit some people who spend about five to six months up here. They don’t live here permanently. They farm, they farm potatoes and buckwheat And wheat up here in Khaplu Broq. Broq means mountains in the Balti language So they come up here, they farm, they plant their crops, and then they harvest it, and then they go back into the city to live They farm for about five to six months out of the year It seems like it’s kind of desolate. So we’re going to see a little bit of the life up here find out a little bit more about the culture And then I believe we’re going to be able to meet some shepherds who stay here almost year round with their yaks There’s one store for this whole entire area that I’m going to show you This is Yakh yakh. He is the shopkeeper of the store of the mountains. He’s been here for about 20 years And does he come up here every single day? Or does he stay here? He lives here. And then what about in the wintertime? Do you go back to the town? Yes, he went to the town, you know, because in winters Nobody can survive here. Yeah. Because, you know, it’s too cold over here. Too cold. Okay. Right now we are Above sea level, 8 to 9,000 feet above sea level right now It’s very difficult to survive over here in the winter. Yes Okay, can you show me in your shop This place is his living place like he sleeps here. He sleeps here. Yeah Okay. With his wife? Yes And then their kitchen, he cooks in here So show me what you have. soap Taffy. Oh, like candy. One rupee. Wow, very cheap. And eggs Oh, lots of eggs. Petrol. That’s very important. Soda and rice. Oh, And Macaroni Macaroni. spaghetti, is that like buckwheat? Yes, Sugar Milk Tea And you have a scale Thank you for showing me Wait, bakshish Bakshish We’ll get some snacks from him for later on Okay, so now we’ll go up to, up in the mountains This is Ebrahim. He’s from this area. He lives in Skardu. He also does content, vlogging. He has a YouTube channel.. My YouTube channel name is travelvel with Me or in short, you can search Ebrahim with lens without space Okay. We’re praying for sun. We are waiting for the sun. It’s coming What do you call the different levels In our language, we call it Jing. Jing. It reminds me of the Rice terraces, which you would call it a terrace in Vietnam, the way that they are different levels. But they have to do different levels because I’m assuming, tell me if I’m right or wrong. because it’s up a mountain, kind of. So you have to do in different levels. You would say “terrace farming” Okay. Jing farming. jing farming How long does it take to make these different levels of these rocks. It’s, you know, too much old. You know, our ancestor, like build these, they planned these areas So they stay. Every year, the rocks are already there. Oh, that’s good Two to 300 years ago Very old Okay, so let’s go. We’re going to go up here and check out some more of the land. Assam Alaykum They’re taking a tea break in the middle of the rocks. They’ve been farming today? They are making the wall, you know. They’re making these walls. Okay. Due to water, the wall collapsed. So how long have they been working on the wall today? He has been working since morning, and these guy have been helping him. And he will maybe spend the whole day, today, building this wall. Did it collapse because of the weather? No, because of water. So the snack is a traditional dish called kasir, and they’re drinking the traditional chai, which always amazes me because it has a little bit of pink to it. Namkeen chai. While in Balti we say Baocha Baocha Salt. It has the Himalayan salt, yeah? No, no, no. It’s like… yes, pink salt. The pink salt that we saw in the market. Exactly Bakshish Ju You know, these guys are his friends. Okay. No, they’re not family There isn’t a money system. He helps him. And when he needs helps, they help him. No money, they just help each other. You can feel the altitude change, like climbing up these rocks Like I can feel my breathing It’s changing. It’s getting, like, heavier thinner air up here. But he did say it was like 8 to 10,000 meters above sea level This is the way that everyone gets up here. All their motorbikes are parked there What is this called? Sea Buckthorn It’s for sugar patients Oh, for diabetes patients It’s used for beauty cream. For face cream? Sea buckthorn So can I taste? There’s a lot of thorns Ooh, sour It’s fill up vitamin C. Full of vitamin C It’s also for hair For everything, it’s a magic berry Seabuck Thorn. I’m going to have to look this up Antioxidant and anti inflammatory So even though it’s sour, you just suck it up and eat it because it’s good for you. Woo! Ah, look at it. Those are some yaks You’re beautiful Come here. Oh. Is he mad Look at the little doors But people still live here now. Assalam alaykum Oh, they’re drying out the Dung What is his name? Mr. Ahmed Ali Nice to meet you. He’s saying that this dung is cow dung and yak dung For fire, you know, fire at home. to, you know to warm the room For fire. In the town, yes Right now, he’s working to build a room over here. A house? Yes. For next year or for now? Yes, for next year. Bakshish So this is considered Kind of like a little village. There’s about 20 people that will stay in here, and you can see all the different little doors back here that is for each family Over here Are the toilets Two toilets, huh? Yeah. Is one for pee and one for poop? Yeah. No, no, both are pee and poop. Everything. They’re right next door to each other. Yeah And then like the little doors for the sheep Two cows, it’s for two cows. Two cows. A shepherd has invited us for tea in his home. So let’s go to our first home in here Asulamu laykum Shosh. Shosh Ju. Welcome How are you? I’m fine What is your name? Muhammad. Isal? Nice to meet you. I am Zann Welcome So this is the kitchen area And he’s even has, like, his own little, I guess it’s not really a fireplace, but where he cooks and everything And with mud And he has a wood ceiling, and he even has a light bulb. So do you have solar power? Yeah. Solar power. Wow. And then his bedroom is back here, so let’s go check that out. Okay. Oh, wow. It’s big. It’s big. Yeah. Can I can I step in? Yes. Yes. Okay. window. Yeah. That’s so neat. When you leave you will take all of it back home? He will pack and, but it stays here. Oh, it stays here. And then he just locks the door. the door. Okay. So sometimes does his family come and stay here? Yes, yes. Yes. So you understand a Tora Tora (little) English, huh? Ah. I was just saying, I’m very impressed with all of this. And they say he’s a modern shepherd. Balti chai Chai Namkeen Chai So what does he grow potatoes, wheat, and beans. Beans, beans. Beans, beans, also beans. Okay, black beans. Sheep and goats and cow Sheeps and goats and cow Yak also. Yak. How many yaks does he have 10 yaks Yes. Wow. So there’s a chicken hanging on your wall. Where did the chicken come from? and why is it hanging on the wall He said he bring it from the town and after a while he will cook there. So when, how long has it been hanging on the wall? When did it come from the village? Today morning, This morning, today? Today. So he will cook it tonight. It doesn’t spoil by hanging on the wall? How many days can you keep it on the wall One or two days. Just one or two days. Okay So does he shop sometimes at the store down there, too? Yes. after three, four days, you go to the shop. He goes to the shop. So the shop gets some business. a lot of money. Yeah, he’s the he’s the shopkeeper down that we just saw. He’s getting everybody’s money from here. That’s good, though. Good for him, right? This is for Oh, where he puts all of his cattle Yeah So separate rooms. So for the sheep and for For cows and sheep. Small window. Small window for the… Look at this little, so the sheep can stick their head out. just so you can get an idea of because I’m short, and this is tiny, made perfectly for the sheep And this one. And this one, this one’s my height. This one’s my… Cow and yak? Yes. Okay, the yak go in here. Look, to stop them from getting out. The thorns. Salamamalaykum. Oh, they’re playing music. I hear some music going on. Yes, musical Ah, I love it. That was amazing. Very good. All of you! How do you say very good? Shabash, Shabash, Shabash. And his voice, you’re right. Very good, Musa Zindabad Musa Shepherd or everybody. They do shepherding. They also also do farming. farming, everything. All the guys. And which ones? They’re both, they’re shepherds and farmers.. Yeah, farmers. They’re what? All arounders They do everything. Walnut. Walnut. Ooh.. to boost the energy, you know? To boost the energy? Yes, it’s very important because we are at the altitude of 10,000 feet Ooh. And the coal is the dung, yeah? Thank you. Good man? Musa. So here’s a whole area where they’ve been picking the sea buck thorn, and they’re drying it out over there. Assalamu Alaykum Yeah They’re separating it now. Assalam Alaykumum What is your name? Muhammad Sm. Muhammad Smile. Nice to meet you. Zann So he is cutting the Seabuck Thorne And he said he’s making it for medicine for patients who are diabetic. They have problems with their sugar So how many kilos does he sell 80 kgs. 80 KGs in a whole crop. 6 to 700 per kilo he sells 6 to 700 rupees per kilo Ooh. Okay Sour. Good. Good. Now we’re on our way to go. We’re going a little bit up further the mountain to meet up with one of the shepherds and see his yaks, which I’m kind of excited about. I don’t know what, but I am. In America, as far as I know, we don’t have yaks. So for me, it’s something different I should bring the yaks to America. Look at all of these yaks So neat. There’s like three shepherds I think, I don’t know, 20 to 30 yak. And they were just walking in a caravan. It’s so cool What an amazing experience He was so good. I thank him so much for you for bringing his yaks and allowing us to see them and Just the scene, being in this area, Baltisan, specifically Khaplu, is just, it’s gorgeous, being surrounded by such friendly people. Thank you. Such beautiful nature. We are literally 360 degrees surrounded by mountains Thank you so much, ma’am, for visiting Khaplu. to show the animals, especially the Himalayan animals It’s very special. Yes, very special. In the third episode of my Northern Pakistan series, I travel deep into Khaplu and up into the mountains to a remote area known as Khaplu Broq. This high-altitude region of Baltistan is home to traditional Balti yak shepherds, farmers, and families who spend their summers here during the harvesting season.
We visited several yak shepherds who welcomed us into their homes, prepared tea, and showed how these mountain houses are built — from stone foundations to the small rooms made for their animals. The people here farm potatoes, wheat, and buckwheat, and gather wild sea buckthorn, a plant known in Pakistan for its health benefits and bright orange berries.
As we spent time together, they shared details about their daily life in the mountains — how they farm and take care of their animals in this harsh landscape, and what it’s like to live in Khaplu Broq during the short harvest season. We also danced and sang together, giving me a rare glimpse into their warm and humble community. These families only stay here in the warmer months because the winters in this part of Northern Pakistan are extremely harsh. The area has almost no infrastructure — just one makeshift “store,” a tent laid over rocks that locals use for basic supplies.
This journey gave me an inside look at rural Pakistan, traditional Balti culture, and the unique connection between the people here and their yaks, which are special to this region of Pakistan.
If you love travel videos about Pakistan, culture, and remote mountain communities, this episode offers an unforgettable look at life in Baltistan’s high valleys.

Absolutely stunning! 🇵🇰✨ This video beautifully captures the raw, untouched beauty of Baltistan and the incredible lifestyle of the shepherds living in these remote mountains. The drone shots, the landscapes, the peaceful village life — everything feels like a window into a world that many people never get to see.
Khaplu Broq looks magical… the high-altitude fields, the silence of the mountains, and the way the Balti shepherds and farmers live in harmony with nature is truly inspiring. Their simplicity, strength, and connection to the land are a reminder of how rich and diverse Pakistan really is.
Huge respect for showcasing these hidden gems and bringing the stories of these hardworking people to the world. This is not just a travel video — it’s a tribute to the culture, resilience, and beauty of Northern Pakistan. ❤️🇵🇰✨
Keep exploring and keep showing the world the real Pakistan! 🌍🏔️🔥

Zaan..pakistan & pakistani people are 90% good…but you know american & European media was showing negatively pictures of pakistan? I tell you actually pakistan single country in islamic world who have atomic power so american & Europeans don't wants to see atomic power any muslim countries..know they are trying from long time pakistan can not achieve economic goals. When his economy will be crushed. Then we support them behalf on surrender atomic power……
This unfair because every country right to secure from enemies.
Zann, you did an amazing job girl. Showcasing the true everyday life of these hardworking and very resourceful people in the Gilgit Baltistan region of Pakistan. The local shop, traditional salty tea (which is a speciality tea, native to ths region only of Pakistan). Those stone houses are not easy to build, yet the survive those harsh weather conditions. The beautiful terraces where people do farming. They don't have the modern utilities like electricity, gas and running tap water, yet they build fire with cow dunk, solar for power utilization, smaller heigh houses to keep those house warm, minimum groceriers to survive on what they have available. Those Yaks are cute and you are right, they might do very well in places like Montana :). Thank you for sharing your amazing experiences with us. It was a pleasure watching you having great time with locals, singing and dancing and enjoying those little moments in life that are amazing experiences. One thing I noticed that you have used the word "Bakshish" often and kudos to you for putting the effort to learn and embrace local culture. I believe this word "Bukhshish" commonly is utilized for "tipping". However, if you are using in the context of saying "Thank you", the appropriate word would be "Shukria". I thought I might share as it will come in handy for future travellers that are watching your videos. You rock girl. It was a joy to watch this video.
