Bogotá Surroundings Blitz: My First Ride with the Local Crew! – EP.389
We have to officially say to people that we know each other. Oh no! I feel like we know each other forever. And it’s been like, two days.
Maybe. Because we are staying in the same hotel as you remember from… From that moment when I arrived to our hotel – My hotel. Our hotel. There were two bikes standing… Yeah. Outside. We see some bikes here. Apparently,
these guys are from Belgium. They’re already packed up and they’re
ready to be shipped to Panama. And today, we have a walking tour around town. Together, discovering. Yeah. Bogotá! That’s right. And today is Sunday. So many people are here. The markets are just booming. It’s just
such a wonderful experience, isn’t it? So busy! Yeah!
– Such a beautiful city. And you guys are on the road
for how long now, this time? A year and a half. Yeah, a year and a half. In Central America. No, it was South
America and before that, Asia, right? Yeah. Three – No, three. Yeah. We did years ago, a year in Asia, then we did three months Europe, and now we’ve been in South
America for just over a year. Heading to Alaska! That’s right. You’re going in the opposite direction.
– Yeah. We’re going up, up up. Opposites. Well, let’s – It’s so nice to meet you guys. Nice to meet you.
– It was so nice to meet you. I feel like friends forever now. Let’s explore, hey? Because there’s just so much
happening today. So much happening. So much to see. [Intro Music] So we’re at the main square, I believe, now. It looks like it. So many old buildings suddenly. Right? Pretty. But, yeah. Like, quite nicely renovated, too. Yeah. So these are the markets. And there’s more markets here. All the street is markets. [Music] That’s the way! [Music] I would totally want that bag. This one. I want that one. Only if I could. [Music] And now we’re doing shopping.
Are you getting this one? Is this from alpaca, or…? [In Spanish] Yes, alpaca. Alpaca.
– Yeah, this is Alpaca. Oh, that’s so beautiful. It must be very warm.
– That’s proper soft. That’s for your mom? It’s for my mom. I need a jumper because I
didn’t take warm clothes. You’ll need the jumper. I need a jumper. How’s this color? That’s nice. That’s good. It’s really nice! Is it? It’s really, really nice. It feels really nice. Okay. So this color, or…? How’s this one? I prefer the other one, but I love
colors so I’m kind of biased! Okay, time for a picture. I’m taking this jumper. One, two, three. [Music] [Music] It doesn’t look strong. No, it doesn’t. It doesn’t. [Speaking in Spanish] It is good! But it’s not really special.
[Kinga] It’s not – Really?
Because it’s not strong for you. Yeah. Like, my coffee’s strong and black. I know! Okay, how’s my hair? It’s important. Hold on. Hold on. I’ll put my bag. I’m ready. Okay. Here we go! My first Colombian coffee. From sip one. It’s different. It’s different. I think it is strong. It
just doesn’t have the color. Fair enough. It doesn’t have the color, but it’s strong. Cheers, guys. Cheers! Nice to meet you. [In Spanish] Cheers! Hello everyone. Hi! This is Beatriz, Mariana, and Leo. Leo. Right. My buddies for today because today,
we’ll be going for a little ride. Right. Where are we going, Beatriz? We are going to Guatavita, which
is a very good lagoon here near to Bogotá. Right. It’s sort of like, north of
Bogotá? Or something like that, right? Yup. Right. And you guys are all on BMW bikes. Let’s
see your bikes. Hold on. So this is Leo’s bike. There you go. Brand new. 1300. Then, Mariana has a 750. That’s Chillie. Everyone knows Chillie. And this is Beatriz’ bike. 750. We’re like a BMW gang. Right? All right! Let’s roll, hey? Yes! So Beatriz has contacted me via Instagram. And offered us a ride together! So that’s why we’re doing it today! Maybe, like, this way? Maybe this way. Okay! [Music] Chillie! We have friends already! I must say, today, it’s a public holiday,
so traffic is not as bad. Tolls. But it looks like bikes have their own little lane, and we are free to go! Yay! That’s how it should be
everywhere around the world. That’s the spirit. [Music] Apparently, I lost something! I lost something? Oh! My God! [In Spanish] Thank you! Oh my God. We’re always so lucky. That was the key to my disc lock. The key to freedom! That I’ve had since 2017. It’s from this Bulgarian riding group. It’s got a sentimental value.
I’m glad we didn’t lose it. All right! Let’s go. That was very lucky, Chillie. We still have 30 kilometers to go. [Music] What’s my first impression about Colombia? Well, they have good roads. And people drive here very fast, I must
say. This is like, the fastest nation so far, I’ve seen in Latin America. In Central America, people are not so fast. They’re all good riders, I must say. Even the guys who are riding
those small bikes. They’re just so quick! [Music] Our first stop.
[Beatriz] Hello, hello! Yes. We’re gonna have breakfast here, right? Yes. Where are we?
[Beatriz] Where it’s a very good restaurant. A Colombian food restaurant. And it’s popular for the bikers. Yes. Plenty of bikes here because it is a public holiday, so I guess
today is the day when people ride, hey? Right. Okay. Here we are! This is a nice place! It’s kind of crowded. That’s our table. So what is this? This is the traditional soup? This is a traditional soup here in
Colombia, which is potato, meat, and water, and I like it with rice. And you like it with bread. With bread. Yes. And hot chocolate. So this is beef, right? Yes, this is. Looks nice. And this is me today! Arepa. Arepa. This is nice! This is my first arepa. Really? In Venezuela, they are very common. Oh, really? But they have a different kind of arepas full of meat, chicken, but I
don’t know. You don’t like it, but beans, cheese.
[Kinga] Oh, beans are good. Yeah. And some vegetables. Right. Our break is over. [Music] Sticker? Oh! Rosa. [In Spanish] Thank you. [Speaking in Spanish] [In Spanish] My sticker. [In Spanish] Oh, thank you. Three stickers! And Bogotá! [In Spanish] Oh, thank you very much. Okay. In the middle. Yup! Congratulations. You can go faster now. At the mark? I’ll do it in the middle. I like that. Okay. Congratulations. You can go faster now.
[Beatriz] Thank you! Thank you very much. Dirty bike, dirty mind! [Speaking in Spanish] That’s right. Okay. Here? [In Spanish] Here? [In Spanish] Yes. Congratulations. You can go faster now. How do I say…? [Speaking in Spanish] ‘You can go faster now? Congratulations?’ [In Spanish] Congratulations. ‘You can go faster now.’ [In Spanish] You can go faster now. Okay. So we have to put it on top of someone else. So maybe… [In Spanish] Here? The space is very limited. [In Spanish] Perfect. Thank you, friend! And now, we’re heading to the lake! [Music] Look at this road! So many gum trees. It feels like Australia. Seriously. I had no idea they have such pretty gum trees in Colombia. Because you didn’t see them in Central America. Upside-down house. Interesting. So, we’re heading to the lake now. This looks like an old town at the bottom. Cute little town. Gate. Now I can see it. Nice, hey? Lots of shops. That sort of stuff. I really like those ponchos.
I’m gonna check it out. I have to. I love those ponchos! [In Spanish] Hey. Oh, wow! They’re really thick, hey? Very thick. What is it? Like… Alpaca? Llama. Llama. It’s very nice, but I have no luggage. It was nice, but I won’t be able to fit it. [Music] How’s my hair? Where are you? You’re here. Okay. Here we go. We made it. This is our second
stop, and we are now where? [In Spanish] Where? Finally, we are in the lagoon. Guatavita Lagoon. Apparently, you can’t swim here
because the water is so cold, right? Yeah. The water is so cold, but
maybe you can try it, Kinga. No. No, no, no, no, no. You like the water a lot! Yeah, but it has to be hot! The water needs the
temperature because this is another thing. It’s so interesting.
I forgot to mention that on my narration when I landed here. Bogotá is on an
altitude of like, 2,500? Something like that? 2,600 meters. Basically, the whole year, you’ve got very – Well, it’s not hot. It’s not cold. You have to wear long sleeves most of the year.
[Beatriz] And you can experience in the same day cold, hot. But everything is cold. Yeah. Well, cool-ish. Coming from Panama,
it’s actually, yeah. It’s a nice change. Because, you know, it’s so humid and hot.
[Beatriz] Yeah. It’s true. I think Bogotá has got this perfect temperature. And if you want to get hot,
two and a half hours away – Two and a half hours away, you are hot.
[Kinga] It is [in Spanish] hot. [In Spanish] Very hot. [In Spanish] Very hot. Okay. Let’s explore. What are we seeing here? This girl on the
horse, I believe, she’s a teenager, right? Yes. I think it’s her 15th. That’s right. It’s the celebration – It’s in Latin countries, hey? In Mexico, they have this as well.
[Beatriz] Yes. That’s common. So basically, it’s like a
wedding for when you’re 15. And it’s a massive party, hey? They’re gonna go and have a massive dinner
together and all of that. That’s… Yeah. Did you have it? No. You didn’t have it?
[Beatriz] You mean a horse? No, but you had – But I have a party. You did? You had the party? Was it good?
[Beatriz] Yeah, I had a party. But not a horse. Was your party good? Yes, it was. Very good. She looks very beautiful. And she’s got a nice white horse. Like a true princess! So this is the lagoon. And it’s a natural source. This sign? What’s this animal called? Armadillo. Armadillo. Armadillo. They live on the trees? Yes. So they’re like possums. Right. So, let’s go this way. There’s a lot of people
because it’s a public holiday. So people are picnicking. [Music] Chillie’s got a friend. Look at her. Didn’t take long, did it? Hi, [In Spanish] Dog. You like Chillie? Of course you do. Everyone likes Chillie. [Speaking in Spanish] [Speaking in Spanish] [In Spanish] Thank you very much. So, [Speaking in Spanish] Oh, sorry. So for those who don’t
speak Spanish as good as I am, I just wanted to let you know,
guys, that on November 9 – Next Sunday, really – We’ll be riding – Well, I’ll be joining the girls
for the ride for Pink Ribbon. This is for the breast cancer. So, please join us! [Music] This is crazy, hey? I’m heading… Like, it’s very early, now. But look at the traffic. This
is insane. Just look at it. Mayhem. Absolute mayhem. Oh my goodness. I guess just go with the flow, hey? That’s crazy. How many bikes are here? [Music] I guess that paint on the ground, that line, is the bike lane. Unbelievable. [Outro Music] Kangaroo. [Speaking in Spanish] [In Spanish] Nice to meet you. Koala. Wow! ‘I love Australia!’ A kangaroo. [In Spanish] Nice to meet you.
[Beatriz] Thank you, Kinga! You’re welcome. [Outro Music] Hey guys, thank you so much for

In April 2017 I left Australia for a solo trip around the world on a BMW F800GS. I named it “Are We There Yet” because I don’t know my final destination or the duration of this journey.
Throughout my journey, I’m raising money for a young disabled child in Poland named Franek. Franek was diagnosed with cerebral palsy (weakness of the entire right side of the body) and he will require constant rehabilitation for the rest of his life. All the money raised will go directly to helping Franek and his family lead as normal a life as possible so please donate generously: https://gogetfunding.com/arewethereyet/
None of that would be possible without my official sponsors:

Very nice 😊
The first sweater you tried on looked the best. You should have gone back with your luggage and got it. I'm sure your mother has room in that box where she's holding all the souvenirs you send back to her. 😁 Take care, Kinga!🤟

Wow you went to Guatavita and nobody told you about the famous leyend of EL DORADO that was located in the lake, where an indigenous cacique used to bath in Gold, basically the main reason why spaniards come to America back in the 15 century to steal the Gold
👍👍
They are heading to Alaska during the winter months, could be a real challenge.

Thank you so much, Kinga, for your kind messages. For me, It is certain that you have a secret to keep this travel journal every week for 8 years.
Share your trip around the world with your family? Be in contact with many motorcyclists? Create a fraternity with other adventurers? … Whatever it may be, your perseverance is there: as you have written, you share each week for 8 years your view of the world! Woo! And there is no silence even when you take a break. Technology allows it but your perseverance and your attitude are fabulous.
In other times (that of the Canon cameras and Ektachrome films) great travelers could only do it after their had returned home. They needed long works to create a diaporama, to project it into large theaters in order to share (I’m not telling you the financial reward, well deserved by the way). Then appeared the internet which allowed travelers to share their photos, videos and stories (Hubert Kriegel was a magnificent example with his site Timelessride, thanks to his 2-wheel drive sidecar Ural). And finally the revolution of social networks, your time.
There is also a message in your travel : that of the discovery of inhabited lands and the encounter. You make, Kinga, definitely part of the world of great adventurer and "How Is My Hair" will become a rallying cry, one of kindness hidden behind humor.
Have a wonderful Odysse in South America Kinga!
❤️
Even though you seem to stage everywhere, my impression of Columbia is quite welcoming. Columbia has a relationship-based culture and Canada has a free trade agreement with them.
Colombia is very good people's ❤❤❤ and the routers so amazing, beautiful

Brings back memories from my Portland to Ushuaia trip in 2016. I remember suffering from the heat and humidity in Panama then flying to Bogota where it was much cooler. Also the Bogota traffic was full of little bikes and scooters just like you expected. I didn’t have stickers to pass out then but I do now. I was on a KTM 690 then and my engine failed in Antofagasta Chile!
Take Care ❤
Me encantó el video. Hermosa Colombia. Saludos desde Argentina 😍
