Hi. Hello everyone, I’m Ahan. Today it’s my turn to take you on a tour of Taipei’s main bus routes! This episode’s protagonist travels straight from Tianmu to the city center. Along Zhongshan North Road, passing through Shilin and Jiantan. Then we arrive at Taipei Main Station and Ximending. Finally, we reach the Zhongshan Main Line at Youth Park. Don’t underestimate this seemingly ordinary daily commute route. There are actually many places worth mentioning along the way! Today I’ll be taking the bus from Youth Park all the way back to Tianmu. I’ll also return to Jiantan to visit the newest viewing platform. Let’s give familiar old spots a fresh twist! Ready? Then let’s officially begin! Okay, today… We’ll start here at Youth Park. Why? Today’s route It’s the Zhongshan Main Line We’ll be recording from Youth Park all the way back to Tianmu. We’ll also be taking you to the new viewing platform at Jiantan Mountain. We’re setting off now. Approximately 60 years ago The Highway Bureau once had a route between Tianmu and Taipei Main Station. After Taipei City was reorganized into a municipality directly under the central government, The right-of-way was transferred to private operators. This route was transferred to two newly opened operators, Danan and Guanghua. Da Nan called it Black 3 Guanghua called it 3A December 1, 1971 Da Nan and Guanghua, the two operators at the time, decided to cooperate. Most routes were jointly operated, and tickets were integrated for easier joint management. This line is uniformly called Black 3 On July 16, 1975, it was officially designated as Route 23. May 15, 1977 This line was renamed Route 220 after joining the joint-venture bus network. Two years later The two operators, Da Nan and Guang Hua, split up due to disagreements. This route was then assigned to Guang Hua. At one point, Guang Hua experienced a shortage of drivers. This caused serious disruptions to the 220 bus service. Therefore, on December 25, 1980, the Taipei City Bus Office dispatched 12 buses to support the 220 bus service. And departs from the Veterans General Hospital station on the other end Even though the issue of Guanghua’s staff leaving the station was later resolved But the Taipei City Bus Office continued to operate It wasn’t until September 1997 that it officially withdrew 220 before returning to the Guanghua drug camp However, the bus company did not relinquish its right-of-way on this route. Instead, they used a similar route, 603, to compete with Guanghua’s 220. Ultimately, 603 was defeated. While 220 continues to operate on Zhongshan North Road. Besides its main route, 220… Previously, there was also a branch line passing through Zhishan Rock. Direct train via Xinsheng Elevated Road And a local train that only runs to Jiantan Station. There are also night buses. Except for the local train being merged into the 72 direct train and changed to 680. Other series have now ceased operation. April 2, 2018 In accordance with Taipei City’s trunk bus policy. 220 was changed to the Zhongshan Trunk Line. June 30 of the following year. In response to the completion of the social housing near Youth Park, and to facilitate local transportation connections, The final route was extended to Youth Park for a turnaround. This is what you see now~ The earliest main roads in Taipei City These are Zhongshan South Road, Aiguo West Road, Zhonghua Road, and Zhongxiao West Road. These four roads were part of a city renovation plan implemented during the Japanese era. These roads were formed after the demolition of the Taipei City walls, resulting in three lanes: east, west, south, and north. The standard width of a three-lane road during the Japanese era was approximately 40 meters. It had one fast lane and two slow lanes. It was the widest road in Taiwan at the time. In addition The three-lane road also has sidewalks and sidewalks. Farmland is on both sides of the trees. The scenery is very beautiful. Therefore, it is known as the “Little Paris of the East”. Taking Zhongxiao West Road as the dividing point, Zhongshan North Road to the north During the Qing Dynasty, it was a narrow dirt road. Until the Japanese era, this road was widened. And planned as “Imperial Envoy Street” (mispronounced as 彳ˋ, fourth tone). A road connecting the Taiwan Shrine and the Governor-General’s Office. Entering the Nationalist Government era. Renamed Zhongshan North Road At the time, to ensure smooth traffic flow on Zhongshan North Road And to connect to the Presidential Office Building Therefore, at the intersection of Zhongshan North Road and Zhongxiao West Road A new Fuxing Bridge was built to span the railway This bridge was demolished in 1998. It was the first overpass in Taipei City. Zhongshan North Road is relatively close to Taipei Main Station. In the early days, various companies and well-known enterprises lined this area. These included long-established businesses such as the Ambassador Hotel, the Christian Mackay Memorial Hospital, and Tatung Company. Tatung University, Taiwan Cement Corporation, and the Grand Hotel are all located on this road.

00:06:17,730 –> 00:06:19,754 After entering the 1990s Various wedding dress shops can be seen everywhere on Zhongshan North Road. I often heard my elders talk about the “Wedding Dress Street” when I was a child. Especially Sections 2 and 3 of Zhongshan North Road. Once home to as many as 50 wedding dress shops, this area was once bustling with activity. Today, Zhongshan North Road remains a vibrant hub of businesses. The cityscape of Zhongshan North Road has undergone numerous changes. Each historical change leaves a unique mark on everyone’s heart. Which period left the deepest impression on you? Taipei City upgraded to a municipality directly under the jurisdiction of the Executive Yuan Later Actively developed multiple roads, tunnels, and bridges “All roads lead to Rome,” allowing residents to quickly reach the core area of Taipei City It was an important task for transportation at the time The Taipei City Government aimed to connect Zhongshan North Road from Section 1 to Section 7 Therefore, in 1959, it was decided to build a new bridge. Then Vice President Yen Chia-kan nominated “Fulin Bridge”. Completed in August 1971. And the original Shilin Zhongshan Road Sections 1 and 2 were renamed Zhongshan North Road Sections 5 and 6. Vehicles will no longer need to detour via Shilin Bridge and Wenlin Road to Yuanshan and Jiantan. This will save more driving time. The Tianmu shopping district is now filled with department stores. For example, Shin Kong Mitsukoshi and SOGO are located around Fulin Bridge. This has led to increasingly heavy traffic on Fulin Bridge. Holidays are especially busy with traffic. After crossing Fulin Bridge and Shin Kong Mitsukoshi, you’ll arrive at the Japanese School. The Japanese School in Tianmu was established in 1947. Initially, it was the “Education Class for Children of Japanese Nationals Studying in Taiwan Affiliated to National Taiwan University”. It was initially located on Wenzhou Street. After Taiwan severed diplomatic relations with Japan After several relocations It wasn’t until 1983 that it moved to its current location on Zhongshan North Road in Tianmu In 1955, because Tianmu’s climate was similar to that of the inland United States Therefore, the US military decided to choose Tianmu as the location for its base in Taiwan Became a major base for the construction of the US military After Taiwan and the United States severed diplomatic relations US troops withdrew and returned home But this did not lead to the decline of Tianmu Japanese schools and American schools were located here Western restaurants can be seen on Sections 6 and 7 of Zhongshan North Road. With the enhancement of various exotic elements, Tianmu gradually became a high-end residential area in Taipei City in the 1980s. Because Tianmu Plaza is located at the intersection of Section 7 of Zhongshan North Road and Tianmu East and West Roads, It is not far from two foreign schools. Therefore, various foreign restaurants, fast food, clothing boutiques, and imported goods stores gathered here. Developed into a commercial district. The Sanyu Palace of Tianmu is located on Tianmu East Road. Dedicated to the Five Grains Emperor. 1750, during the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty. Early settlers from Quanzhou and Zhangzhou in Fujian Province came to this place to cultivate farmland. Next to the farmland, a stone temple was built to worship the Earth God. It was only moved to its current location in 1947. Currently, it is the local faith and spiritual sustenance of the Tianmu area. We’ve reached the final stop and are getting off. Let’s turn back and take another bus to the new viewing platform! Come on, everyone! Next up! We’ll take you up to the viewing platform on Jiantan Mountain to see the scenery of Taipei City! We’ll take this bus to the Jiantan stop (not the MRT Jiantan Station!). After getting off the bus, go to the Jiantan Scenic Area opposite. First, climb Jiantan Mountain. Jiantan Mountain is not high. Only 153 meters high. It is a small hill on the westernmost side of the main ridge of the Wuzhishan mountain range. If you walk in from the previous scene You have to climb stairs up the mountain ahead. Walk forward and you’ll see Dazhong Palace. Dazhong Palace is dedicated to Lord Guoxing (Zheng Chenggong). Due to the founding abbot You Kuanren, on the night of the Mid-Autumn Festival (August 15th of the lunar calendar) Dreaming of the Duke of Guoxing requesting the construction of a temple here With the public contributing funds and effort in preparation Completed in 1957 Continuing upwards from the Dazhong Palace You will then see this Ark Platform This viewing platform was newly established this year. From the platform, you can see Taipei Songshan Airport, Dazhi Bridge, Taipei 101, and Xinsheng Elevated Road. Let’s continue walking. We’ll take you to Breeze Platform and North Eye Platform; these two platforms are not far apart. It’s just a bit of a distance from Ark Platform. Many online celebrities and photography enthusiasts frequent the Breeze Platform and North Eye Platform. They like to come here to check in or take photos. The scenery here is quite different from that at the Ark Platform. From here you can see the Jiantan MRT Station, the Taipei Performing Arts Center, and the Chongyang Bridge. Looking further afield, you can also see the entire Guanyin Mountain. Isn’t it beautiful! Okay! Sorry everyone, due to time constraints, I can only take you to three platforms. What about the other viewing platform at our usual spot? I’ll bring you here again next time I have time! That’s all for today’s episode. That’s all for today’s recording.
