A hidden hot spring on the Shiretoko Peninsula. Press the subtitle or CC button to enjoy full subtitles. Hello everyone, this is Watatabi. This time, I’m going to a hot spring I wasn’t able to visit on my last trip to Hokkaido. This is a completely unmanned, free hot spring that has been in operation since the Meiji era. During the Meiji era, it was an inn called “Takezawa no Yu.” After it closed, it was used as a resort for local residents from 1972 to 1980. It was once demolished due to a natural disaster, but it has now been restored and maintained by a local salmon enthusiasts’ club. It’s located in Shibetsu Town, in eastern Hokkaido, known as one of Japan’s leading salmon producing areas. My destination is Kawakita Onsen, nestled deep in the mountains at the base of the Shiretoko Peninsula. I’ll stop by tourist spots along the way. I arrived. This is a place called “The Road to Heaven.” I came here because I heard the view from here is beautiful. There seems to be a shop below. It says it’s closed, but… There’s a cafe below. Unfortunately, it’s closed. The view is better this way. Wow! Amazing! There’s an observation deck here, so I’ll go check it out. The ocean looks incredibly beautiful, but this view is even more beautiful from the road. It was really nice. More and more visitors are arriving, and the place is packed with people. I have to be careful not to get in the way of cars when taking photos. I’m going down this roller coaster-like road. When I actually go down, it doesn’t feel like a steep slope. I’ve always wanted to come here, so I’m glad I did. The scenery is pristine nature. It’s a place that really makes you feel like you’re in Hokkaido. We’re almost there. This is it. We’ve arrived. We’ve arrived. This is Raiun Shrine and Raiun Park. Surrounded by nature, you can hear the sounds of various animals. This is Raiun Park, the home of famous water. Wow, there’s a beautiful pond over here. This pond is crystal clear and beautiful. There’s a little bit of sand, and I think that’s where the water springs from. It’s hard to see because it’s in the shade, but I imagine it’s incredibly beautiful when the sun rises. Spring water flows out on the other side of the pond. There were quite a few locals there, drawing water from here. I’ll also visit the shrine. I’ve arrived. It was really just a stone’s throw from the torii gate. It was close, but the slope was quite steep. Since I’m here, I decided to visit Raiun Shrine to pray for good fortune. It’s a lovely name, isn’t it? Anyway, I headed back to the parking lot. I was sweating while taking photos as I climbed. So, I’m heading toward the hot springs now. Apparently , the hot spring I’m heading to is a milky-white hot spring in a remote area. I’m really looking forward to it. I’m back. Surrounded by nature, the shrine and park have a Ghibli-like feel. There are many animals to see, so please visit if you have the time. Now, I’m heading toward the hot springs. The hot springs are 45km from here, a 58-minute drive away. Turn right. To get to the hot springs, drive 5km along a forest road. The last time I came here, the road was closed for the winter and I couldn’t get through. There’s a sign that says “Caution 3.5km ahead.” The road is rough… Even though I washed my car… This is the worst. I’m straining my shoulders. It’s getting narrower and narrower. There are occasional places where you have to pass other cars. The road is really bumpy. We’ll be driving on this road for 15 minutes. It might take more than 15 minutes…at this pace. It’s an incredible road. I wouldn’t recommend it. I remember there being a road like this in Kyushu. Yes, there is, near Beppu. It was an incredible road. This road is also quite incredible. It’s taking over the steering. I don’t know if they’re power lines for the hot springs or what, but there are power lines all the way to the left. We continue driving into the forest, where there’s no signal. It seems to be a bridge called “Onsen Bridge.” There’s no way a campervan could get through. Luggage in the back would be a real pain. Of course, low-slung cars also can’t get through. It’s the kind of place you’d drive in a Jimny or something like that. I’ll never go again! I never want to come back. This is my first and last hot spring. Well, this was an experience. Why did I have to go through this?! Lol. It’s 1.2km to the hot spring, 5 minutes away. The road just keeps going like this. It’s almost like it would be quicker to go by bicycle… Only 1km left to Kawakita Onsen… There was a sign. 350m to go. Just a little bit more. This area is flooded. Um… oh, right. Ah! I can see it! Finally, I can see it. Okay, we’ve arrived. No, no, I have to go back this way again! That’s the worst… Anyway, we’ve arrived. Finally, we’ve arrived. This is Kawakita Onsen. There are brown bears, so it’s hard to know how to be careful, but I’ll put some bear spray somewhere easy to find and go for a bath. This is… a rest area. It’s a place to rest like this, but it’s not a place to escape the cold or heat. This is… a memory notebook. I see, I see. Memories of visitors are recorded here. There’s also a toilet on the other side of the hot spring. This is the entrance to the hot spring. This is the women’s bath, and the men’s on the left. My shoes are here, but my wife is bathing. There’s no ticket box, so I guess this is a free hot spring? This is the changing room. There’s no place to put in a ticket. It’s written about it repeatedly here, so I think brown bears really do appear. The open-air bath looks like this. It’s milky white, and the smell of hydrogen sulfide permeates the area. It’s amazing. I can’t get enough of that smell. I’m not sure what the women’s bath is like, but the men’s bath is completely visible from the outside. You can also enter from here. It’s so cloudy white you can’t see 10cm in front of you. As for the temperature… it’s pretty hot, about 43 degrees, I think, but you won’t know until you get in. You can add water from here, though. I’ll give it a try . The spring quality is hydrogen sulfide spring water. It seems to be about 59.6-60 degrees. I’d like to take a bath, but I don’t know how deep it is… there’s a step at the front. And it’s too hot to get in… It’s too hot, so I’ll add water. Since no one’s in the bath, it’s extremely hot, so I’ll have to add water before I can get in. If you enter from this side, where water has been added, you can. It’s amazing. It’s hot! I thought I might burn my butt… Once it’s at the temperature I like, I stop adding water. It’s absolutely amazing. It feels so good, and the smell is irresistible. It’s amazing to be able to bathe in this exquisite sulfur spring in the middle of the mountains. Even though it’s deep in the mountains, I’m truly grateful that it’s properly managed and accessible. I went to the hot spring. It’s a good rival to Kumanoyu in Shiretoko. However, Kumanoyu seems to have some customs, so I don’t think many people visit, and I personally prefer a relaxing soak here. It’s a must-see for sulfur spring lovers. It’s truly wonderful that this hot spring is free to enter. Now, let’s head to our next destination. The only downside is… having to go back down this forest road again. It would be great if this awful road leads to a great hot spring. I think it’s best not to go early in the morning or in the evening. Bears might appear in the early morning, and deer and other wildlife are likely to appear in the evening, so it’s best not to go. Driving here in pitch black is also risky, so I recommend coming around noon. Finally, I made it out of the forest road. My whole body smells strongly of rotten eggs. We’ll arrive soon. There are a lot of visitors. It’s been a while since I last came here. Today, I visited Lake Mashu for the first time in a while. The last time I visited, Lake Mashu was covered in snow, but I wanted to see it without it. It looks like this. It’s so…beautiful. The monochrome scenery was nice, but Lake Mashu with its vibrant colors is also beautiful. The lake is as beautiful as ever. I was glad to be able to see the mysterious blue of Lake Mashu this time. Above all, the shop below sells a lot of souvenirs and has a variety of food, so I came here looking forward to that. The corn looks delicious. It’s so expensive! Lol. At one roadside station, they were selling corn for 150 yen. Lol. It’s so cold. I didn’t have time to look around last time, but there are a lot of Hokkaido-exclusive and Lake Mashu-exclusive products. I bought a ton of souvenirs. Most of the restaurants here were sold out, so I couldn’t eat. The sun was setting. I was waiting for the sun to go down, but it went down in an instant. The sun sets so quickly. Teshikaga Town is famous for Teshikaga Ramen, and I remember hearing that comment before, so I’d like to go to a famous Teshikaga Ramen restaurant up ahead. It’s only 4:48 PM, but there are already a lot of cars parked. I arrived at the Teshikaga Main Branch of Teshikaga Ramen. It seems to be a very famous ramen restaurant. There’s a vending machine in front of the store. They have a variety of ramen, including ramen, fried chicken, gyoza, and fried rice. The “Seafood Squeezed Soy Sauce” seems to be the most popular. I was told that miso is the next most popular, so I went with that. I also ordered fried chicken and gyoza. The Teshikaga Miso Ramen has arrived. It smells amazing. The bowl is piping hot. This is the “Seafood Squeezed Soy Sauce.” This also looks delicious. The fried chicken has arrived. The handmade gyoza has arrived. It was really delicious. I remember hearing that comment before, so I ordered the “Seafood Squeezed Soy Sauce” ramen, their most popular. The seafood soup spreads throughout my mouth and was absolutely delicious. The miso ramen uses four types of miso from Hokkaido, and at first I thought it would be a strong miso ramen, but when I mixed in the meat miso, it became a mellow, delicious soup. It also contains kelp, and the aroma spreads throughout my mouth with one bite. Apparently, it’s sashimi kelp from Hakodate. The Teshikaga ramen was incredibly delicious. The fried chicken was also delicious, and the homemade gyoza had a homemade feel to them and were also delicious. It was a very popular restaurant, and it was packed around 5 p.m. Well, it’s time to head out. It’s pitch black, so I’m afraid of deer jumping out, so I’ll take a nap at a nearby roadside station. This time, I visited a remote hot spring on the Shiretoko Peninsula. What did you think? It was a free, well-maintained, milky-white sulfurous spring, and the best. どこまでも続くまっすぐな道、秘境感たっぷりな温泉。やっぱり北海道素晴らしいです。

独りは本当に都会とは別の意味で危険です。
今の時期は本当に危険です。
広大な熊牧場の中に生肉抱えて装備無しで行く様なもんです。

天に続く道昨年通りました。ここ2回知床行ったら天候不順が続いてガッカリです 展望台も上がりました 弟子屈ラーメン🍜美味しいですよね😊来年夏また知床に行くつもりです 弟子屈は大鵬の故郷なんですよね お孫さん王鵬が今頑張ってますが
白濁した温泉は訪れるのが大変そうですが、訪れる価値はありそうですね。摩周湖の眺めも北海道らしい雄大さを感じました。

I don't like the idea of smelling like sulpher after a hot spring – that's a strange idea in England! Careful of bears as I've watched videos of the increased bear problem in towns.

温泉目指す酷道、わた旅さんらしくて面白い😁いつもハイエースで色々な酷道走るの凄い！ハラハラ、ドキドキそしてワクワクしてます。弟子屈ラーメン、私も夏に2時間待ちで食べて来ましたーあの時の味を思い出して🤤 天に続く道と来運神社、ずーっと気になっててなかなか行けてないので、動画で見れて良かったです。この日の摩周湖も、わぁー綺麗✨と思わず声がでました!

The road to the onsen is trully awful, but it seems that your wife and yourself had a lot of fun driving there 🙂. I wonder, do brown bear like water ? I mean, would they come up to the onsen ? All I would think about when taking a bath there, is what to do, if a brown bear comes close….. I have too much fantasy.
Die Natural ist der beste Architekt und auch der beste Maler. Und Du bist unser Regisseur und Erzähler, der alles so toll in Szene setzt.
Dann das versteckte Onsen, inmitten der tollen Natur, man kann sogar Besuch von Braunbären bekommen. Ist der Mashu – See eigentlich sehr Touristisch erschloßen ? Er sieht sehr idyllisch aus. Das Essen sieht auch sehr schmackhaft aus, ja wie eigentlich Immer in Japan. Danke für das wieder mal Klasse Video , es steckt immer viel Herzblut dabei, wenn Du uns solch schöne, abgelegene Flecken Deiner Heimat zeigst und erklärst. Ich selbst bin auch lieber in der Natur und geniesse die Stille und brauche kein Spektakel. Ja diese Aufnahmen sind einfach beruhigend machen mich immer gut gelaunt.

Hi. I'm glad there was a good, hot bath waiting for you after that bumpy ride. Better check the van for any damage or loose screws. Is the food in Hokkaido a lot more expensive than Honshu? I hope two weeks is enough time to explore some nice areas there.🙏🙇♂
あ−面白かった、私も奥さんに一票、腰痛持ちには厳禁、あれだけボコボコの道嫌でも温泉良いですね（ヒグマを除けば…熊さんも必死）
来運神社ホント池めちゃくちゃ素敵これは一見の価値あり。
懐かしい摩周湖38年前に亡き母と行った時もこんな感じでした、積雪の頃に行かれた時も書いたかもしれませんが真ん中辺りにある島は戦に負けて逃げてきた王子とはぐれた祖母が泣き崩れて島になったとか（諸説あり）。
豚丼発祥の標津町、昔からお土産屋さん大きかったです、目移りしました。
弟子屈のラ−メン美味しそういや美味しいはず、日没はこちらより小一時間早いです。あっという間でしたがきれいな風景でしたね。外は真っ暗、昨年のこともあり無理は禁物（あの時はびっくりしました）
笑いどうしの朝食でした。

天に続く道・・・知床に向かうとき何本もありますね。景色は変わらないけど（笑）川北温泉は知床半島に収まるのでしょうか？知床半島といえば斜里（ウトロ）と羅臼のイメージがあります。
ここまで行くYOUTUBERも少ないと思います、さすが、北海道を知りつくした、わた旅さん、できたら北海道の年越し行事など見たいです,跳んで埼玉下級市民７６歳

あの師匠がキャンピングカーでは無理と言ったあの林道を、私キャブコンで行きましたよ😂動画ではありませんでしたが、片側が崖になった所も有りましたよね。対向車、それもキャンピングカーだったこと思い出します。
暫く通行出来ない状態でしたが、また行けるんですね。楽しみです。
今、鹿児島まで来たので北海道を回れるのはちょっと先になりますが、師匠の動画を観て安心しました。以前と変わらないですね😊
弟子屈ラーメン美味しかったですか？北海道住の私は大好きですが、違う地域の方だとお口に合わない事も有るんでしょうね。

初コメです。今年2月、北海道に行きました。ちょうど弟子屈ラーメン総本店にも寄りました。むかし醤油ラーメンを食べましたが、わた旅さん一押しの魚介しぼり醤油ラーメンにすればよかったかな？連れが、ここの支店が新千歳空港内や札幌ラーメン横丁、甲子園球場近くのららぽーとなどにも出店してると言ってました。
今晩は😊夫婦で、わた旅さんの動画を拝見してます😊ヒグマは、怖いですよね💦入浴中に来たら、怖いですよね💦無事で良かったです💦
