This is North Korea, the world’s most mysterious country It claims to be the world’s fifth cradle of human civilization With a history of 5000 years It also claims to hold multiple world records The world’s deepest metro Largest triumphal arch Tallest hotel And the stadium with the largest capacity This country is closed off to the outside world Full of mysteries If you can enter North Korea It will be a unique And unforgettable travel experience in your life For this winter vacation trip A total of eight classmates from Hong Kong and Taiwan and I Contacted a North Korean state-run travel agency And embarked on a six-day, five-night mysterious journey to North Korea This morning’s buffet Was actually surprisingly good We originally thought this hotel might not have many guests But the buffet was laid out in a whole row It had everything you’d expect, and it was pretty great Is it good? Not bad Did you sleep well last night? No! I woke up many times last night And there was no hot water I didn’t shower What time did you shower? I got up around 5 AM this morning and showered Was there hot water in the morning? Lukewarm water Not particularly hot Now we are going to the West Sea To the west is the Korean West Sea (called the Yellow Sea by China) North Korea is a country with a relatively long coastline So today We have arranged for you to see the scenery of the North Korean West Sea There we will see the West Sea Dam Our first leader Chairman Kim Il Sung personally conceived it The construction of this West Sea Barrage is very massive So at that time, people around the world said North Korea definitely couldn’t complete such a massive project But relying on our self-reliance We completed this project in just five years After returning to Pyongyang, We will arrange a visit to Mangyongdae Chairman Kim’s birthplace In the afternoon, we have arranged several scenic spots in the city for you The avenue we are passing now is the Sports Village We call it Youth Street Built in 1986 National-level North Korean athletes Train here before Participating in the World Cup and international competitions Here are the basketball and volleyball gyms This is the holy land for Taekwondo And the Taekwondo gym is over there World Cup and other Taekwondo competitions Are all held here Nowadays, North Korean men generally are willing to serve in the military To protect the country Because North Korea confronts the US and others What is the shortest mandatory service period? That is our country’s military secret I can’t tell you, hahaha At what age do you have to serve? Generally after graduating from middle school Middle school graduation is usually at age 16 or 17 You can also serve after graduating from university Anyway, you can serve before age 25 It used to be compulsory service Now it’s voluntary service According to the guide Pyongyang, through which the Taedong River flows Is considered by North Korea to be The world’s fifth cradle of human civilization Therefore, Pyongyang holds an extremely high status in the hearts of North Koreans In 2017, an article in the Rodong Sinmun stated That North Korea is now praised by the world As a rightful military power An Eastern nuclear power And a cosmic power In a 2025 Rodong Sinmun article Similar expressions can be seen For example, in the February 13th news, it said “Demonstrating the dignity of a cosmic power to the world” In the August 9th news, it said “Firmly safeguarding the Republic’s legitimate right to build a cosmic power” Additionally, North Korea’s calendar system is called the “Juche Era” With the birth of national founder Kim Il Sung in 1912 as “Juche Year 1” For example, 2024 is “Juche Year 113” in North Korea But starting from October 12, 2024 North Korea suddenly completely stopped using the Juche calendar And switched to the Gregorian calendar Long live the great leader of Juche Korea, Comrade Kim Jong Un! We warmly welcome your visit to the West Sea Barrage Construction of the West Sea Barrage began in May 1981 And was completed in June 1986 Before this dam was built The water from the Taedong River and the seawater mixed together The freshwater had a relatively high salt content The main objective of building this barrage Was to control the freshwater of the Taedong River And make good use of this water Go to the video hall to watch the promotional video Along the Taedong River Traveling over 50 kilometers You can reach the West Sea Dam The West Sea Dam is located between Nampo City and South Hwanghae Province Education and housing Are all free North Korea is the only country in the world without taxes This one is relatively old This is a Pyongyang brand I’ve used it for about four years The most famous is the Arirang brand I use this one when leading tours So you have another one, right? Arirang You have an Arirang! I have three You have three? They’re pretty much the same as ours, all the same Yeah, same Yeah! Also the software and everything After charging It lasts a week no problem Oh? It can last that long! The battery is pretty good So you don’t need a power bank? Don’t need a power bank, wow! The Arirang phone lasts two days But the Arirang phone is newer, right? The screen quality And other features Are a bit more than this one Arirang is better? Ah, the functions are better How much is an Arirang? They vary For this kind, the… Pyongyang brand When I bought it Calculated in RMB It was about two thousand five hundred Oh! That’s a bit expensive too I bought an Arirang phone at the same time It was about four hundred US dollars Four hundred dollars? Does everyone have a mobile phone? Yes! Everyone has one? There are cheap ones, expensive ones, all kinds But are they all smartphones? Young people basically all have smartphones Older people generally… Press these (buttons), simpler ones Mm! Yes, yes! Can only make calls Is everyone’s pocket money enough to buy a phone? They have phone coupons! No! No phone coupons There are beer coupons But women don’t get them, men do Actually, when you pick it up and look at it It looks the same as our regular smartphones The difference might only be in their internet They have their own internal network And I was also curious then, hey! How does this guide Contact people like us Because their company has some internet That can connect to the outside So they can do business He said before, he might only get two or three hundred RMB a month Now, after this system reform He can get Five or six thousand RMB per month When he got his salary, he was shocked and said Uh! Is this money really mine? He said his hands were shaking when he received it Because it was so much It was just too different from his past salary From the guide’s account I actually think North Korea has many aspects that are Quite open Including some welfare systems Like he said when his wife was pregnant before She had eight months of paid maternity leave Yes! Really… was shocked! Unheard of! The second stop was to Kim Il Sung’s former residence Where he was born and spent his childhood This place is Mangyongdae It got its name because “ten thousand landscapes can be seen here” So since ancient times, this has been a place with excellent feng shui So many wealthy people bought land and mountains here And moved their ancestors’ graves to this place At that time a landlord from South Pyongan Province Lee Pyeong-taek bought a piece of mountainous land and fields here Then for his ancestral graves they built a tomb-sitting house Chairman Kim Il Sung’s family was too poor to build a house They agreed with the landlord to watch over the mountain graves for him and moved to this place So this house is the former tomb-sitting house The guide told many of these touching stories introducing his life shaping an image that his whole family were “heroic anti-war resistance fighters” I suppose Inside many items are preserved some tools they might have used back then The biography of Kim Il Sung “The Great Man” published in 2025 by the Korean Foreign Languages Publishing House mentions in its opening sections “Comrade Kim Il Sung is not a figure of legend” “but a true great saint” “He began the revolution as early as age 13” and claims at the end “We can only say Comrade Kim Il Sung is a heaven-sent great man” Furthermore differing from the people’s historical view that “the people are the creators of history” the preface also states that North Korea believes “Revolution led by great men is the driving force of sacred history” The book’s introduction to Kim Il Sung’s life mentions he studied the principle of rainbows at age 3 and grasped its underlying truth He took apart a phonograph to understand how it worked As early as his teens he read and mastered classics like The Communist Manifesto which even adults found difficult to understand Das Kapital and The Great Meaning of Socialism “He studied foreign languages diligently” “could speak various languages and read foreign language books” It also mentions he “was a true intellectual” “with an insight to see through the world and a superhuman memory” The chapter “Peerless Courage Ambitious Spirit” directly states “To be honest to resolve to wage a full-scale war” “against an imperialist power possessing airplanes tanks and warships” “relying only on two pistols” “is something unimaginable by ordinary common sense” Speaking of books in the science and technology section of “Figures Who Left Their Mark on Korean History” published by the Korean Foreign Languages Publishing House in 2019 it is mentioned gunpowder firearms movable type printing astronomical observation instruments etc were inventions of ancient Koreans This contradicts the global consensus that gunpowder firearms and the Four Great Inventions originated in ancient China Furthermore the book also states it was the Korean monk Damjing who taught the Japanese how to make ink and paper as well as painting methods and how to make pigments It even claims current South Korean history textbooks record it this way But the Japanese side believes this claim by South and North Korea lacks any historical evidence They believe papermaking and pigments were introduced from China as early as Japan’s Kofun period and Damjing only played a role in re-introducing the technology from China Paper was a luxury item at the time Paper brought from China to Japan was called “karagami” and had no connection to the Korean Peninsula There we met many local North Korean people and the way they looked at us was really the way you look at foreigners They stared at us with wide eyes as if we were very unique as if we were marvelous We happened to see a North Korean amusement park today It’s right at the entrance to the former residence It’s a pity the amusement park only opens in summer It’s a pity the amusement park only opens in summer It feels a bit like those from the 60s 70s a retro-style amusement park It looks quite interesting But I noticed some of the rides are in a state of disrepair so I don’t know what it’s like when operational But it actually has quite a variety of attractions so it has all the essentials Then we excitedly ran over As soon as we got on the bus everyone said hey Everyone was just watching you two You mean them Yeah they all think we’re like aliens Making others envious Even when walking we hold our heads high just to show people Even when singing we sing loudly just to show people This unique socialist fatherland in the world Marching forward with vigor just to make the world envious Even planting a single tree we do it to show people On the way back to Pyongyang for lunch I noticed the residential buildings on both sides of the road many North Korean families have solar panels installed on their balconies The guide said every North Korean household hopes to generate their own electricity solve their own power supply issues and save electricity for the nation’s construction Also there are no clothes drying on the balconies The guide said this is for the city’s appearance to make the buildings look neater Let us build meticulously just to make the world envious The red one is the soybean paste Guide Zhang told you about Soybean paste made from soybeans Put a little in the soup After it’s fully cooked add seasoning according to your taste Okay please sit The food here in North Korea is actually quite similar to Chinese food just with some additions like kimchi or cold noodles Some Korean-style ingredients But basically it’s mainly Chinese style Our lunch is super abundant I think lunch is quite tasty Great Personal hot pot And that hot pot is not like the kind we had in Beijing This hot pot is pre-seasoned A plate of meat a plate of vegetables you add them yourself then add seasoning and cook Eating hot pot I think one thing that’s very special is we find North Korean women are all very beautiful Hahaha Like today we were taken to buy that Chunghyang brand cosmetics People say North Korean women are all beautiful so what do they use Why do you want to buy whitening products No reason just too dark Haha He’s the one who loves beauty 40 yuan Eye cream only 15 renminbi Feels like a counter brand And it has everything inside Like toner eye cream or hand cream And this bottle is ginseng toner It’s only 55 RMB Considered very cheap I heard many people who come here buy it The price will double after the new year It will increase after the new year She said last time it was 35 now it’s 55 So stock up fast Not bad Have a look And it’s very distinctive Yes yes yes This is a whole ginseng root And look at that The saleswoman is very beautiful Probably uses Chunghyang brand toner It’s like I’m on a shopping channel promoting this Besides the ginseng toner from just now I also bought this face mask Its face masks are super cheap only 40 yuan a box And there are 10 inside Also ginseng face masks Considered very cost-effective And you can give them to friends as gifts Because they are state-owned enterprises the quality should be relatively guaranteed Then in the afternoon the rural village we looked forward to yesterday He actually called it a farm But he said because of the current season not much is being grown Then we went to see the local people’s homes The clothing styles are relatively uniform closer to something like military overcoats But I feel the city looks from what we saw quite modernized There were more moving cars than yesterday but still not that many Or the places where we ate each time there was only our table or at most two or three tables not too many other people So we are quite a special presence I guess We also asked when they get married Nowadays women seem to marry only after 25 and men at 28 The legal requirement seems to be 18 for men 17 for women But actually it’s still late marriage In our impression they should marry early but actually it’s not like that Taedonggang Beer Factory I think these should all be public housing Basically, they all follow this standard So next let’s actually go and see what other people’s homes are really like It’s basically just a home It has everything you’d expect inside We saw his room, the kitchen But the floor is really cold You can feel the chill when you step on it The ceiling might be a bit low Although the area isn’t particularly large it still feels very cozy And they probably sleep on a mattress on the floor There’s also a desk over there Next, let’s go see the other houses Oh! Heated floors! Pretty impressive This should have a carpet and it’s also heated The basic facilities are quite comprehensive They’ve hung some family photos inside here And the living room usually has portraits of the North Korean leaders I noticed that the homeowner’s expression was a bit complicated Maybe because too many tourists went in at once and we disturbed them a bit I don’t know if there are other reasons From my own observation, I think there are actually very few things inside the house Personally, I feel it’s a bit like a show home Like when you see cosmetics, they are very neat orderly arranged in a somewhat oddly specific display Normally, we might put cosmetics in a row, arranged neatly or maybe in a basket Other areas also have almost no clutter It could also be because we were visiting so they tidied up specially or something But the inside feels like it’s just what a model family should have Specifically for tourists to see So they would specially arrange or prepare it This morning it was mentioned that their current policies regarding farmers have actually changed For example, they set a quota Say, for four acres of land, you need to achieve a yield of 4 million After reaching that any extra you produce, you can keep for yourself So it’s a kind of incentive system Quite different from what people imagine Based on your own rank they assign you a house The interior decor should be pretty similar for every household, right? Yeah! This should be a fairly typical family Yeah, yeah The inside is pretty much the same for every family The furniture is similar These houses were also given to the farmers here for free by the state Whether in the city or the countryside housing is allocated by the state? Yeah! All allocated by the state But generally, in the countryside, it’s mostly single-story houses In the city, it’s mostly apartment buildings This is one of their more central department stores Buying things here still basically requires ration coupons It’s allocated according to the plan If you exceed the ration coupon amount you need to pay an extra amount of money Let’s go inside and take a look Rice ration coupons Soybean ration coupons Then vegetable ration coupons, and liquor coupons But with these ration coupons you still need to pay a little money to get your food relatively cheaply For liquor coupons, no money is needed you can just take them and go drink Is it only men who get liquor coupons? But women can also use men’s liquor coupons to drink He (the guide) secretly complained to us about some little stories about his wife Like using his liquor coupons to drink And also, his wife stewed that ginseng chicken and used the steam water to wash her face Yes! He said because his wife was pregnant and he thought at the time he wanted to nourish his wife’s health So he spent about 1000 US dollars and went far away to buy ginseng Kaesong! Kaesong! Yes, yes! To buy ginseng Then I bought it back thinking she would stew it to nourish her body and also to nourish his mother’s health But then he woke up early and found his wife stewing the chicken soup Her reason was to use it on her face not to take care of his mother or to protect her own health Actually, pregnant women shouldn’t drink ginseng chicken soup anyway Right! So his wife’s initial reasoning was to tell him it was for our mother Haha! So he was very touched But then later found out the truth was actually for her own face This is one of our North Korean somewhat characteristic flavored (cigarettes) How much is this? Can you ask for me? This is equivalent to your “Da Qian Men”, you know? It’s like the cigarettes supplied to cadres in the past This is it How much is this? 5 dollars This is an old brand This is “Hometown” cigarettes This is “Arirang” cigarettes This is “Hometown” cigarettes These are quite good North Korean cigarettes This one is thirty This one is twenty This is “Arirang” cigarettes Five dollars a pack Pretty cheap Encountering local villagers buying oranges Super sour! Huh? Mine is super sweet! Super sweet! Let us sing for Kim Jong Un He is the wise and great leader Let us praise Kim Jong Un with all our hearts He is the kind Father As warm as a mother’s embrace As loving as a father’s embrace Embracing the millions of children at his feet He protects them tenderly with all his affection Let us sing for Kim Jong Un He is the wise and great leader Let us praise Kim Jong Un with all our hearts He is the kind Father The people, united, faithfully follow you You are the kind and beloved Father After leaving the farm, we went to the Party Foundation Monument The guide specifically said that the entire urban planning of Pyongyang actually aligns with the Party’s development and history Let us sing for Kim Jong Un He is the wise and great leader Let us praise Kim Jong Un with all our hearts He is the kind Father The people, united, faithfully follow you You are the kind and beloved Father This monument faces another one across the way the statues of Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il And the distance between them seems to match the date of the War of Resistance Actually, I found it quite astonishing at first that in their capital city such prime locations and so many buildings are all constructed to align with the Party Whether for commemorative purposes or to promote national prestige it’s quite an astonishing thing Next to it is the next attraction, the Arch of Triumph Modeled after the Arc de Triomphe in Paris But it’s 11 meters taller than the one in Paris He said it’s the largest triumphal arch in the world Actually, for me! My own impression of North Korea I think the most memorable is this Arch of Triumph Do you think we’re on the streets of Paris? Look behind us! It’s the Arch of Triumph! But this Arch of Triumph! is quite different from the one in Paris It’s only different by 11 meters Haha! Come on! Oh! You’re too tall In the background our Pyongyang Arch of Triumph I’m with those three our friends, happily taking photos Next time you come! come travel to North Korea again with your classmates Bye bye! We are now at the China-North Korea Friendship Monument It commemorates the Chinese People’s Volunteers We specially brought a bouquet of flowers from China To the Chinese People’s Volunteers martyrs who defeated the common enemy Bow three times You can enter the interior of the monument All the names are here And Qiu Shaoyun They are all here And over here When we went inside the guide told a story She said Previously there was another tour group A lady came here and brought many ritual offerings The guide asked her Hey Why did you specially bring so many offerings from mainland China She said because Her father was killed somewhere here she didn’t know exactly where Then after entering the tower she saw Her father’s name was actually inscribed there And then she Was very emotional cried tears of sorrow Just entering the tower Gave her a very strange feeling We feel that We can live in this peaceful era without war Is truly wonderful It feels like remembering these predecessors The Chinese People’s Volunteers Had a total of about 2.9 million personnel rotate through the war Nearly 200,000 became martyrs China made enormous sacrifices and contributions to the Korean War However in recent years The North Korean official narrative of this history Has gradually downplayed or even erased The Chinese People’s Volunteers Pivotal role in the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea Emphasizing instead that North Korea won the war “independently and autonomously” North Korea’s 2015 edition high school history textbook “The US and Japanese Imperialists’ Aggression and War Incitement Against Korea” Chapter states US imperialism threw its entire aggressive force Using the cruelest and most vicious methods It concludes But because our people Under the wise leadership of the great leader Kim Il-sung Waged a heroic struggle US imperialism suffered an unprecedented defeat In the three-year war But makes no mention of China’s strong support Additionally the Korean Armistice Agreement was signed in July North Korea regards that day as Victory Day Thus in the Chinese version of “Korea Pictorial” published in July 2025 There was a special “Commemorative Feature” section Titled “The Steel Commander Who Created the Myth of Victory” Using three pages to review the Korean War It mentioned In the Fatherland Liberation War pitting rifles against atomic bombs Our people achieved a great victory That was the brilliant crystallization Of the ever-victorious Juche military ideas Strategic skills And extraordinary art of command of Comrade Kim Il-sung the Steel Commander Due to his Juche-based strategies and tactics which were ever-changing and adaptable Although the US mobilized over 2 million troops And advanced weaponry They ultimately knelt and surrendered before the Korean people Throughout the text there was no mention of the Chinese People’s Volunteers No mention of China’s enormous sacrifices And contributions to the Korean War This is the floor plan of the Victorious Fatherland Liberation War Museum The total area here is 93,000 square meters Today we have a pretty sister Like I said No matter what North Korean women wear They are very pretty and have great poise On the right are displays of weapons Captured from the US during the war We saw many unique things like When they attacked the US forces Some equipment and wreckage left behind by the US military Like aircraft wreckage Bomb wreckage Helicopter wreckage Are all well preserved there 83 spies The more unique one is probably the spy ship That came to North Korea Originally had 83 crew members One died The other 82 were repatriated to the US But the ship remains here The US government sent our country This kind of “letter of apology” What I found quite shocking was This museum is really Dazzling and magnificent As soon as you enter you see a statue of Kim Il-sung A deified sculpture With a radiant glow around it Yes right At first I thought it was Kim Jong-un But later realized it was Kim Il-sung I heard when he first succeeded His image was deliberately considered Hoping to emulate his grandfather To boost people’s confidence in him Inside the museum They also recreated The conditions during their resistance It’s divided into spring summer autumn winter Yes yes Really a comprehensive experience When fighting in the field What the environment was like How they cooked meals And they would use those Helmets left by US soldiers To cook rice or bathe They could use it for many things But they emphasized today That they were considering the Korean people If they wanted to capture South Korea It would be very easy North Korea’s various large-scale public monumental buildings Remind me of European churches Churches are centers of faith for people In North Korea Large-scale monumental public buildings Steeped in Juche ideology Are also centers of faith for the North Korean people The most characteristic part of our dinner today Is a serving of cold noodles Yes It requires an extra payment Cost 30 RMB to get a bowl of cold noodles After mixing it looks like this Although it’s cold When you eat it The noodles have a bit of A slight pungent kick from the mustard added earlier I think it’s a very appetizing dish Very delicious I should say there are four types There’s also a unique spicy sauce That comes with the cold noodles initially The design is quite exquisite actually The flavor is indeed very unique Quite different from any I’ve had before I found it very delicious and finished it all I am your senior But I am Korean Very pleased to meet you We are also very pleased Cheers The guide at the end Came to toast with us We are a relatively young group he has seen He usually leads groups with older people Yes And probably some businesspeople Not really students like us Or purely tourist visitors We just discussed Whether to see the acrobatics show tomorrow Now it’s confirmed we are going tomorrow Looking forward to it What different things we’ll see tomorrow Tickets cost 200 RMB Hope it’s worth the 200 RMB And importantly we are going to Panmunjom tomorrow And have a chance to take photos in front of the 38th Parallel Very much looking forward to it Alright See you tomorrow

  16. "Gong Zi" program for the purpose to Humiliate North Korea. I with my German friends have been there before, North Korea is not what you showed. And we like there.
