Walking in Tsu City, Mie: From Tsu-Shinmachi to the Daimon Nightlife District

I’m on a journey toward Osaka, passing through various towns before eventually returning to Tokyo.

From Matsusaka, I traveled to Tsu City in Mie Prefecture. The Daimon area is one of the best-known nightlife and entertainment districts in Mie, though it’s not very close to the nearest train stations. The most convenient access seems to be from Tsu-Shinmachi Station, so this time I started walking from there toward Daimon. It turns out that the distance from Tsu Station is about the same, so maybe next time I’ll try walking from that side.

Around the Matsubishi Department Store, the streets felt rather quiet at night. The Daimon area, lined with bars and small eateries, originally developed as the monzenmachi (temple town) of Tsu Kannon Temple, and you can still sense traces of that old charm today.
