Cats Sneak Into Your Room at This Japanese Cat Hotel | Shoraku Ryokan🐈🏨

Surprising Cat Ryokan in Japan! You can even spend the night with a cat. Hope you enjoy this uniquely charming hotel🐈 Hello!
My trip starts at Shimonada Station in Ehime. Shimonada Station, one of Japan’s most scenic seaside train stations. And now, all aboard for the lovely cat hotel. The cat hotel is located at Iyo-Ōzu Station, about 40 minutes from Shimonada by train. If you’re coming from Tokyo, you can fly to Matsuyama Airport and then take a train from Matsuyama Station to Iyo-Ōzu. I’ve arrived at Iyo-Ōzu Station. The weather is perfect! There’s a huge torii gate built right over the road in front of the station. Passing through it feels like it brings good luck. Get off at the Kataharamachi bus stop and walk five minutes to reach the cat hotel. The hotel is called Shoraku Ryokan. It’s a long-established ryokan with a 56-year history. Hello! (Welcome) A warm welcome service from the cats. Thank you. The moment you step into the entrance, you’re surrounded by cats. Cute. His name is Rin. He’s such a beautiful boy. Shoraku Ryokan is home to 13 cats, and the front desk is their favorite hangout spot. When guests arrive, the cats gather one after another. In no time, it becomes completely full of cats🐈 These are Yuzu (left) and Komugi (right), a pair of sibling kittens who joined recently. And this is Hana, a one-year-old girl. She’s a beloved and very popular cat. This is Koume. She’s a girl. This is Sumomo, the oldest cat here at 17 years old. She’s so beautiful you’d never guess her age.
(Forever 17) The cats are cared for by the owner, Mr. Matsuda. They are all rescue cats, and he began rescuing them about three years ago. Each one found their way to this hotel through fate. So big! Yes, Rin is actually the biggest cat in the hotel!😂 So chubby. There’s also a lovely catwalk above the front desk. This kitten is Uni. He’s a boy. The kittens were actually a trio of siblings. This might be a hotel designed to prioritize the cats over humans🤭 It’s a truly unique and one-of-a-kind hotel in Japan. The cats move freely between the front desk and their secret room. Apparently, this is a room just for them. Some cats even arrive carried in by the owner. So cute. (Treat me with care, human) Her name is Melon. She’s quite a grandma. Her eyes are melon-colored🍈 There’s even a cozy lounge area in the lobby. Hey, I can’t make it to my room at this rate😂 You’ll definitely get caught by their cuteness too. (Don’t go to your room yet) More guests are arriving, so let’s check in! Check-in starts at 3 p.m.! The cats return to their secret room at 6 p.m., so an early check-in is recommended! Are you checking me in? (Leave it to me😉) Cat-hotel truth: The cats get in the way so much that you can’t focus on the explanation. If you make a reservation at this time, you can stay with one cat for the night! (Free) The room fee was ¥3,800 per night! So cheap!
($24.78/€21.39) Let’s head upstairs in these cute slippers! Hello. (Welcome) This is Aki. He’s a boy. Hana! My room is 206, next to the hot spring baths. Aki came to visit. He came to check the room. It’s a spacious Japanese-style room! If you leave the small window open, the cats will come into your room. See you later, Aki! Hana came to visit! Does my backpack smell?😂 Thanks for coming. After relaxing for a bit, Hana left the room. See you! The cats keep coming to the room one after another! I’m not used to having cats in my room😂 These are two of the three sibling kittens. The one on top is the older sister, Komugi,
and the one below is the younger brother, Yuzu. Can I pet you a little? Ah! Yuzu went back. Let’s play with Komugi, who stayed behind. What caught your attention? You can’t jump up there, can you?😂 Good, that was close. She’s fearless and full of curiosity! She’s the big-sister type who leads her little brothers. Cute. (What are you doing?) I tried getting into the closet like a cat. Komugi played with me for about 30 minutes! Thank you! And Aki came again. But when the cats don’t visit, it feels lonelier than a normal hotel. I hope someone comes… ! Yes! The room became lively again. All three sibling kittens are here! But they head back right away. Let’s flip through the cat profile book. It lists all 13 cats with their traits—you can feel the love. The hotel has the front desk on the 1st floor, and guest rooms on the 2nd and 3rd. Out of 15 rooms, 10 have a little “cat window.” You can choose a room with the window when booking online. The rooms are well-equipped and comfortable. Yukata loungewear and amenities are provided, too. There’s also a retro-style washbasin area inside the room. The view from the window is… so-so😂 There’s no bath in the room, so let’s go to the hot spring. Beautiful tiles. It’s great that you can reserve it for private use. There were two hot spring baths! My skin felt silky smooth—so relaxing. They’ve got shampoo and everything. A fan you can ride!? (It makes my crotch feel breezy) There’s a shared restroom further back. Apparently it’s shared with the cats, too. Mimi! Want some water? Looks like she won’t drink it straight from here. Oh, you’re drinking from the corner😂 Let’s play with the cats hanging out in the hallway. Perfect—there’s a toy right here. Maybe everyone wanted to play with the toy. Back down at the front desk. (Welcome back) Suzu. She looks like a cream puff—so yummy. Sumomo, the elegant mature beauty. She must have greeted guests here for a long time. Hey, Hana. Hana is only one year old—she just joined recently. She’s super friendly and a guest favorite. How’s life at the hotel? The owner gave me some cat treats. Looks tasty. Share nicely, okay? She said, “Lower your hand more” Koume. The little black-mustache pattern is adorable. Here you go, Mimi. Huh? Not eating? The orange collar is Yuzu. Since the kittens look alike, I remember them by collar color😂 Blue is Uni. Green is Komugi. Orange is Yuzu! Nailed it. This is Kuuta. Safety check, left and right! Aki is lost in thought. Hana is sound asleep. So cute. Kuuta, do you like baseball, by any chance? (I’m more capable than a security camera) In the quiet afternoon, you can see how freely the cats behave. Did you catch that? 😂 Suzu’s amazing sliding move. She might make a good baseball player. But she’s hopeless at catching. The owner, Mr. Matsuda, knows exactly how to spoil the cats. Spending a slow, relaxing day with the cats feels like pure bliss. You can also enjoy reading manga here. Dragon Ball. Attack on Titan is so good too.
(I love long-haired Eren Yeager) It’s now 6 p.m. It’s time for the cats to go home. When Mr. Matsuda brings their food, it’s the signal to return. They all head back to their secret room. (Um, what about me?) The trio of kittens seem to be the last to go back. But first, let’s enjoy chubby Rin😂 Mr. Matsuda: Hold on a moment. Mr. Matsuda: I’ll get your food. Here it comes! The kittens return last so they don’t have to compete with the adult cats for food. Mr. Matsuda: Ok everyone, say good night to our guests. Sleep well. Mr. Matsuda: Oh, you all want me to hurry? Bye, everyone! (Did you forget about me?) Elderly Sumomo gets her own special meal. Being 17 is incredible, isn’t it? I hope she eats a lot and lives a long, healthy life. Peek-a-boo! Alright, time to head back. Thank you so much. Mr. Matsuda: The cats will come out again at 6 a.m. tomorrow. That was wonderful. Let’s go grab some dinner. I researched a few places nearby beforehand. Here it is! The inside looks like a stylish bar. I’ll start with a drink. I ordered a lime sour. So good! The main dish at Hazuki is kushikatsu. Seafood and meat are coated in batter and deep-fried. Looks delicious! I’ll start with the octopus. ! That’s insanely good! The chewy octopus and the freshly fried batter are perfect. This might be the best kushikatsu I’ve ever had. Next, the beef. This one’s great too! Chicken tender with cheese. The cheese is amazing of course, and the shiso leaf adds a really nice touch. Even though it’s chicken breast, the texture is incredibly soft. Next up is squid. Naturally, this is delicious too. This definitely pairs well with the drink. Last is shrimp! Shrimp is the king of kushikatsu for me. As expected, it’s amazing! But octopus might have taken the crown by a tiny margin🐙 I added an egg skewer. This is guaranteed to be good. It melts in your mouth. Finished in an instant. Lastly, “Yama-imo Tako Teppan” (grated yam and octopus grilled on a hot plate) It’s a popular dish among regulars. Yamato yam has a naturally sticky texture. It’s seasoned with mayonnaise. Then topped with cod roe, seaweed, and wasabi. Delicious. It’s like a treasure hunt finding the octopus pieces. It’s slightly salty, so it’s really easy to eat. There were lots of other dishes too, and I enjoyed everything! The total was ¥2,660. Thank you so much. That was delicious. It was such a wonderful place. I hope you all get a chance to visit. Ōzu Castle near the hotel looked beautiful. I’m heading back to my room to get ready for a night with a cat. I asked Hana to stay with me tonight! Owner: Please close the door when you leave the room. I kept calling her name so we could get closer. Wanna play? Not interested at all. I’ve never had a cat before, so I’m really nervous. But I’m sure she can tell that I really love cats! Hana! Let’s have a good night together. So cute. I can’t contain all these feelings. (What is this black stick?) (Are you plotting something?) At first, we kept a little distance from each other. But we slowly got closer as we spent more time together. We watched TV together. She even posed for me. She also caused a bit of mischief and kept me busy. Sometimes I played little tricks on her too. We even ate a late-night snack together. Tonight is a “don’t worry about calories” kind of night. We had such a wonderful time. But Hana won’t drink water when the camera’s pointed at her😂 Please don’t suddenly go emotionless, hana😧 Let’s brush our teeth and get ready for bed. It seems running water still scares her. Time for teeth brushing and grooming together. We need to stay clean, after all. OK. (Getting sleepy…) A little massage before bed. We just can’t stop cuddling. She’s so cute I don’t think I can sleep. Good night. It’s 3 a.m. Hana suddenly woke me up. She wants me to get up and play. Hana, that’s way too early😹 My brain isn’t working. Her silent pressure continues. I finally gave in and woke up. Good morning. What’s up? It’s the middle of the night. Looks like Hana gets super clingy at night. You weren’t this sweet before bed. (Is that so?) But she’s cute, so it’s all good. She’s even cuter when she’s being affectionate. Hana! Let’s have breakfast. Hana! (Yes!) Let’s eat together while we’re at it. My breakfast is steamed egg bread. Breakfast tastes even better with Hana. It’s getting brighter outside. Now she’s getting sleepy. That’s what you get for staying up late. It’s almost 6 a.m., so it’s time to say goodbye. Thank you. I had such an amazing time. It feels lonely now that I’m actually saying goodbye. Let’s play again. It’s 6 a.m., so I opened the little window. Thank you, Hana! Bye-bye. She’s gone… But another cat immediately barged in. Good morning, Mimi. According to the owner, more cats visit the rooms in the morning. They even give you a morning call. (Good morning!) Her intense greeting scared me a little. Just like the owner said, a bunch of cats started visiting my room. First is Komugi, the kitten girl. She was a bit cold today. Next is Yuzu, the kitten boy. And here’s Suzu, the cream-puff girl. Good morning. Good morning, Suzu. (‘Sup) Everyone just says hello and leaves. Next is Melon—her first visit! She patrols all the way to the back room. (Let’s play!) Koume also visited my room for the first time. Unfortunately, everyone had already left. They all come into the room, but none of them cuddle with me😂 Aki and Komugi seem to really like this room. Don’t poop in someone else’s room🤣 Maybe this is his morning routine. And then he sniffs his own poop. (I’m healthy today) Mimi’s skillful feint. Even Van Dijk would fall for that. A cat wandering into the hot spring room. Then turning into a human. They don’t care even if I’m dozing off again. This is how the cats wake up guests every morning. Mission complete! Once the morning call is over, the cats head downstairs. Apparently someone escaped outside. Thank goodness they’re safe. “I wanna play outside more!” The escapee was Mimi. There are lots of cars near the hotel, so it’s dangerous outside. Kuuta is great at playing with hair ties! It stretches so much! Everyone wants the sofa to themselves. The cats are so energetic in the morning! (What’s going on?) (Young ones sure have energy) Those socks look warm. Sumomo, good morning! You didn’t come to my room, so I’ve been wanting to see you. Check-out is until 9 a.m. I wake up ridiculously early so I can play with the cats who come out at 6 a.m. It’s almost time to say goodbye. This was a special hotel where I got to have a rare experience. But Aki won’t let me leave. Maybe next time I’ll stay for multiple nights. Love that’s sweet… and a little painful. Ready to go? Aki still wants to stay in the room a bit longer. Thank you, Room 206. I really recommend this room. Hana! Thank you. Take care, you three kitten siblings! Suzu, don’t get eaten just because you look so tasty😏 The cats even come to see you off when you leave. Thank you so much! Today I’m going to visit some recommended spots near the hotel. First, Ozu Castle! Ozu Castle was built 694 years ago, in 1331. You can also go inside the castle. (550 yen/$3.57/€3.09) Despite its long history, Ozu Castle is one of the few remaining wooden castles. All four stories of the main keep are designated as Important Cultural Properties. Inside, you can see miniature displays showing what village life was like at the time. The main keep was once dismantled in 1888, but it was fully restored in 2006. It was rebuilt as a wooden structure based on old photographs and models. Amazing. But the stairs are extremely steep and dangerous. I climbed them, ready to risk my life for the view. Here’s the view from the castle. You can see the whole town of Ozu. So beautiful. Be careful when going back down the stairs too. Next, I headed into the town I was looking at from above. You can feel the traditional Japanese wooden architecture. The town is also developing, with new hotels being built. This is actually a hospital. So stylish. At Pokopen Alley, old signs and items from the past are displayed. It’s a great spot for photos. There was a torii gate that looked like Totoro might appear. I felt like I might get sucked in! Up ahead is Ozu Shrine. It was built in the same year as Ozu Castle, 1331, and enshrines gods of business prosperity and safe childbirth. I prayed that I could reach 100K subscribers on YouTube. (May everyone watching right now subscribe🤫) The air somehow felt cleaner. Next, I visited Garyu Sanso. It’s a villa with a beautiful garden and refined sukiya-style architecture. It was built about 120 years ago, in 1887, near a quiet river. Further in, there is a building called Furo-an. Unfortunately it was under construction, but originally it offers beautiful seasonal scenery. The construction should be finished now. There were many wild animals, and I could really feel the life of nature. A dragonfly led the way like a guide. Cute. There were beautiful koi in the town waterways too. They were probably wild koi. Time for lunch. Aburaya is one of Ozu’s popular restaurants. I ordered the 10-meals-a-day limited bento. Wow. Today’s main dish was tonkatsu. The second tier had side dishes. All this for 900 yen!? ($5.85/€5.06) Mille-feuille tonkatsu. Looks delicious. Insanely good. (It almost made me forget I went to a micro-pig cafe earlier.) The tofu was delicious too. Kushikatsu yesterday, tonkatsu today. All I’ve eaten on this trip is katsu. But I never get tired of it. It was a well-balanced meal. Thanks for the meal. Let’s check out some souvenirs before heading home. Isn’t this the chair from “Suzume no Tojimari”? It really looks like it! There were lots of cute accessories and items too. If it suited me more, I might’ve bought it. Three nights at the cat hotel💸 ($69/€60) So I’m taking the Anpanman train home. There’s a bus from Matsuyama Station to Matsuyama Airport. The airport is huge! By the way, Ehime is famous for oranges. Apparently, orange juice comes out of the tap. No way that’s true… Whoa, it really came out!🍊 Feels like a dream. It tasted like simple orange juice, but the experience made it extra special. This is where today’s video ends. Thanks for watching until the end! See you on the next trip.

    ※今回オーナー様には顔出し許可をもらっております。

  2. I love your videos! As a long time cat owner I love seeing the joy you have interacting with the cats. Even when they wake you at 3am 😂 this is a cat thing for sure. What a lovely hotel. I plan to come to Japan next year and lots of your videos have inspired me to go places you’ve been. I’d like to open a cat cafe Japanese style here in the UK one day. 100k subscribers here we come! ☺️

  4. You are clearly not a cat person. You pet the cats like dogs. Your experience will be 2x better if you knew how to pet cats. Even then, they are so friendly and tolerant of you. Most cats if you pet that way will leave immediately maybe even swipe at you. They are really well mannered kitties. I wonder how this ryokan does with guests who have small children. I hope the cats are well respected by all the guests and treated accordingly, not overstimulated!

  5. 猫様がお客様を癒やしますね❤🥰😍☺️夫婦で猫様大好きなので行ってみたいです😼

  6. What a cozy hotel. Hana is the ideal kitty campanion, she would've been my favorite. Cautious and smart, yet curious and friendly when you earn her trust. Also, Suzu has the most beautiful coat.

  7. みんな懐っこくてかわいい..
    「ここにとまりにくるひとに わるいひとはいない…」って世界観で生きてそうでかわいい

  8. Please do not pet cats against their fur. They don't like it. Stop disrespecting them. Seems like you don't like cats, and do not respect their will😡頭から尻尾まで撫でることはできますが、逆方向に撫でることはできません。

  9. My cat and I love your videos every evening we watch one (she likes cats the most) she likes the latest one the most she talks to the cats and wants to play with them thanks for your videos bringing sally and me closer together (had to use google translator kind regards from vienna)
