Espacio Nagoya Castle A Modern Castle Appears in Nagoya An exterior featuring white walls and green-patina roofs atop substantial stone masonry A luxury hotel with castle-inspired design harmonizing with Nagoya Castle Approximately 100 guest rooms blend tranquility and luxury, incorporating auspicious motifs like phoenixes, dragons, and tortoises The 11-story above-ground, 2-story underground building houses luxurious facilities including a state-of-the-art fitness gym and indoor pool We stayed at this “modern castle” overlooking Nagoya Castle, where traditional beauty meets cutting-edge comfort Opening in October 2025 near Nagoya Castle on the former site of Hotel Nagoya Castle The large hotel, visible even from a distance, has a total floor area nearly equivalent to Tokyo Dome The location is a bit far from Nagoya Station, taking over 30 minutes on foot Access is convenient by subway (10-minute walk from Asamacho Station) or by car For cars, underground parking is available but costs ¥3,000 per day Parking and stepping outside reveals Nagoya Castle directly ahead, with the hotel situated right beside it. The distinctive stone walls utilize stone from Ena City, Gifu Pref. The entire structure, including the stone walls, stands approximately 45 meters tall. Let’s head inside the hotel right away. The entrance features the armor of the Three Great Unifiers (Oda Nobunaga, Toyotomi Hideyoshi, Tokugawa Ieyasu). Beyond this door lies the guest-only floor. Beautiful Noritake ceramics adorn both sides of the hallway. A splendid space where Japanese craftsmanship flourishes. The central piece in this space, themed around phoenixes, dragons, turtles, and cranes, as well as flowers, birds, wind, and moonlight, is a phoenix. It is a work by Junichi Kurakake, expressing the phoenix spreading its wings and taking flight. A work by Chōemon Chida, featuring a unique and beautiful blue (Toto Blue). Luxurious pieces like “Miharu” and “The Pine of the Reclining Dragon,” featuring gold and platinum leaf, are displayed. Check-in is on the 4th floor. Beyond the Japanese garden built atop stone walls lies Nagoya Castle. A golden pine tree, designed as a symbol of prosperity, longevity, and good fortune. Its surface is coated in gold leaf. A work by the Toyama Prefecture Sculpture Cooperative, recreating the transom from Nagoya Castle’s Honmaru. A brief note on pricing: True to its ultra-luxury hotel status, even standard rooms cost around ¥100,000 per person. This time, thanks to an official opening campaign, we stayed for about ¥50,000. Our welcome matcha drink arrived. It has a deep green color, but it’s fragrant and delicious. Including the ¥3,000 parking fee, the total for two people was ¥104,200. Check-out is a late 12:00. There’s a stretching event early in the morning. Up to the first 6 guests can participate for free. We stayed in an 8th-floor guest room. There are six room types including suites, but this time we chose the most affordable Deluxe type. The view faced the city side of Nagoya, not Nagoya Castle. The approximately 50-square-meter room featured a space evoking flowers, with vermilion and dark red as the base colors. Traditional works inspired by the ripples of the moat and the plum blossoms in Nagoya Castle’s garden blended with cutting-edge facilities. Opening the floor-to-ceiling glass windows reveals panoramic views of Nagoya city. The eco-friendly system switches the air conditioning to fan mode while windows are open. Let’s look at the in-room amenities. The bed uses the premium American brand Serta. The foot bench design is also intricate. Bedside controls manage room lighting and curtain operation. Type C power outlets are also installed. The living/dining area blends Japanese and Western styles. Kyoto Uji sencha and matcha are provided on the table A lacquered mini-bar is located at the back It contains premium alcoholic beverages, a shaker, and a Nespresso machine The Nespresso and bottled mineral water are complimentary Inside the refrigerator, the water and milk in the upper left are complimentary; other items are charged Tableware is unified: Noritake for ceramics and Riedel for glassware A state-of-the-art TV is positioned directly opposite the bed The remote controls in-house information and restaurant reservations A fireplace below the TV emits warm air Changing area Opening the door at the back reveals plum blossoms, with a toilet below Two sinks are present, with a disc-shaped object in the center Opening it reveals a vanity mirror It’s a dressing table Let’s look at the sink amenities Nothing is overlooked, including Italian luxury toothpaste brand MARVIS Each sink has its own set Kyoto-based organic cosmetics brand (NEMOHAMO) Skincare based on the philosophy of utilizing every part of the plant, from root to leaf Soap products from the historic Italian pharmacy brand (Santa Maria Novella) A hairdryer is located under the sink It’s a ReproNizer 107D, so even those serious about hair care won’t need to bring their own from home Bathroom The bathtub sides have a slight slope, allowing us to lean back comfortably. The guest room bath uses heated water, not natural hot spring water. Automatic water filling is available. There was bath salt by Refa, the hair dryer brand. Rare. By the way, the bathroom curtain opens and closes automatically. I set it to triple speed, but opening it offers a panoramic view of Nagoya city. A fairly large walk-in closet. Pajamas are by skincare brand NEMOHAMO. Made of organic cotton, they feel soft against the skin and are breathable. Since two men were staying, we requested the pink ones be changed to blue. The bathrobes are unisex in both color and size, so no issues there. A shoe polishing service is also available. The back shelf holds a safety deposit box and slippers. There’s a mysterious door, but it’s the butler box. When requesting something from staff, like ice, we can communicate without meeting face-to-face. Now, let’s take a look at the hotel facilities. Starting with the 4th floor. Accessible to guests staying in Grande-level rooms or higher. Light meals, breakfast, beverages, and other services are provided. The hotel features eight restaurants and bars. Options include Japanese, Chinese, French cuisine, sushi, and more. All restaurants and bars except the Lobby Lounge are concentrated on the 4th floor. They offer a full selection of six signature cocktails and non-alcoholic cocktails. Cantonese cuisine is popular, featuring dim sum and crispy pork. Next, we move to the first floor. The second and third floors are banquet halls used for events and weddings. We did not take photos here. This area is accessible to non-guests. A Matsuzakaya department store VIP event was underway, drawing a large crowd. At the back are shops and a lounge. As an official Ferrari partner, they display opening commemorative exhibits. They sell Aichi specialty sweets (Shunkoumon) and original desserts. The Garden Lounge is visible in the far left corner. It’s open to non-guests as well. It modernizes the Owari Nagoya tea ceremony culture. They serve organic matcha from local Toyota’s “Ishikawa Seicha” using the latest matcha machines. Light meals like sandwiches and pasta are also available, making it suitable for lunch. Mercedes’ top-of-the-line “Maybach” was on display. They say it’s placed here to evoke luxury The wheel structure is quite unique Now, heading to the spa & fitness area on the second basement floor It features a fitness gym, hot spring baths, and a pool Indoor shoes are required for the fitness gym, but free rentals are available (socks are paid) Hotel guests can use it free of charge 24 hours a day It’s quite spacious for a hotel gym The machines are the latest models from the American fitness brand Life Fitness There are various types like cable machines, bikes, and treadmills I’m using the bike, and its features are amazing. It supports wireless charging for our smartphone. We can also watch videos on Prime Video, YouTube, etc. Feel free to watch my videos while working out. After sweating, refresh with a cold towel and water, then head to the hot spring. From here, the spa area. ※Photography outside the hot spring area requires prior consultation with marketing staff and must avoid capturing people. Natural hot spring utilizing groundwater from Nagoya Castle. Equipped with a dry sauna and steam sauna. The dry sauna uses rare Finnish “Kelo wood.” A warm water pool with natural light streaming in from the ceiling. A mosaic-style bath tub reflecting beautifully on the water surface. Water flows down the walls, creating a refreshing and luxurious atmosphere. Poolside cabanas are free to use, with towels and water provided. There’s also a jacuzzi by the poolside. Sit on the bench and let the jets soothe our tired muscles. After working out in the gym and pool, night had fallen. Returning to my room to change out of workout clothes, the bed had been turned down. Slippers, pajamas, and a scented pouch were provided. Time for dinner. Wanting something Nagoya-style, I headed to a nearby izakaya. Big ginkgo, a popular yakitori restaurant in Sakae. Their specialty is charcoal-grilled chicken using Kinso chicken, thoroughly cooked over binchotan charcoal. It’s helpful since there aren’t many places to eat dinner near Nagoya Castle. Goodnight, gazing at the illuminated Nagoya Castle. This time I booked a plan without meals, but I enjoyed the hotel until checkout at noon. It’s a large hotel, so we can have a great time just staying inside even without sightseeing in Nagoya. It’s usually an ultra-luxury hotel costing around ¥200,000 for two people, but they sometimes have campaigns for cheaper stays. This time, we stayed for about ¥100,000 for two, which is still pricey for an urban hotel. It was a good hotel, but personally, I’d appreciate it if it were a bit cheaper.
