Meshitabi Season 5 This time, we ‘re featuring 10 restaurants in the Akita, Odate, and Yokote areas. Let’s get started! 1. Tatenomaru Shokudo, Akita. We found the wildly popular Tatenomaru Shokudo along the Tenno Line in the outskirts of Akita City ! It was packed with regulars from the morning! It seems to have a firm grip on the stomachs of locals ! This place is popular for its offal, right? It’s true. I’d heard it had a lot of tender, odorless, and not too greasy, so even women would enjoy it. Maybe it was because it came with ramen? I wish I’d had more offal… It was much lighter and easier to eat than the average stewed offal . Yes, I want to try it too! I ‘ve been hooked on it since I got over my obsession with offal lately. And the ramen was surprisingly delicious! The soup had a refined chicken flavor that really brought it out! It was better than the lame neo-style ramen ! This was a restaurant that made me want to try a variety of other dishes ~ Wow, I’ll look forward to going back next time ♬ It was full of energy and volume!! You could feel the soul!! It was a restaurant that gave me energy ♬ The best one!! 2 Odate “Niboshi Chuka Asari” A ramen shop that opens at 7am Niboshi Chuka Asari is a great place to eat ramen in the morning ♬ It seems to have a lot of male customers before work Oh, before work… I saw a senior here who wrote “nibo carbonara” in the comment … I was curious. When I entered the restaurant, the kitchen was sparkling clean!! This cleanliness… I can sense the anticipation of deliciousness ✨ Ah, clap clap?! Here it is!! Niboshi oil soba!! Loaded with ingredients ♬ The thick, flat noodles mixed with the chewy sauce are amazing!! Oh my, it looks delicious! ⁇ Mixing in the seasoned egg really does taste like carbonara ♬ Adding the soup adds a whole new dimension of flavor! It’s a fun bowl of noodles with different flavors ♬ So happy to start the morning off right ♡ Ah, dried sardines in carbonara… it looks delicious! Niboshi lovers must try it! It’s a morning specialty in Akita! This is Akita 3 : “Revanira-ya Kintaro” Located inside the Akita Civic Market, Revanira-ya Kintaro is an incredibly rare restaurant that ‘s only open on Friday and Saturday mornings ! It’s a shared kitchen in the market, with different vendors each day of the week! Ah, that kind of thing? Today, we’re back at the much-anticipated Kintaro, where the female owner makes the incredibly popular stir-fried liver and leek! Many of our veteran customers, who have long queues, have already come! Is she really called Kintaro, even though she’s a woman? No, not at all! After about 30 minutes of waiting, I was finally shown in… Here it is, the much talked about liver and leek set meal, complete with a raw egg! Wow, gorgeous! So happy! The sweet and salty sauce hits your appetite right in the mouth! I can’t stop eating the rice! This is a meal stealer, the liver is super plump! It’s fried directly without any odor , so the umami of the liver comes through directly! Liver, liver! This is definitely my #1 favorite stir-fried liver and leek dish ! Wow, I ‘ll have to tell Bakabon Papa about it too . Yes, I can see why so many people are hooked! This is liver and leek, a treasure of Akita Market! I want them to open a permanent location, don’t I? Really… 4. “Yamauchi Shokudo” in Yokote. Yamauchi Shokudo is well-known for its Omoumai branch and Sekakuna Gourmet ! Before opening, I bought a meal ticket, so I was able to enter without waiting in line. It’s great! I heard that their Kamakura half-char siu is amazing, so I came here! For some reason, the person in charge of making the extra-large portions of fried rice always ends up green, doesn’t it? Yeah, stop it! Don’t let me eat any more! This is it! This is it! Ta-da! Half a serving of fried rice! I say it’s 1kg in total weight , and apparently the regular portion is 2kg and the large portion is 3kg! You’re kidding me! Measured in kilos is crazy! Hey, but this was delicious! The garlic is strong and the parapara chasi is crunchy, but there’s no way I could finish it! 1kg… No way, no way, no way, no way! I gave up halfway through ! My uncle packed it up for me as a souvenir. Yes , I got it! The fried rice was delicious, with a fragrant garlic flavor! The ramen was also rich and went perfectly with it! It’s now a multi-functional hotel with a closed sports gym . Hot spring facility ♨ Are there a lot of these in Akita? Sauna ♨ That’s right… There are two types of sauna: a high temperature of 90°C and a mist. You can really sweat. The cold bath is 17-18°C… a little warm, but it’s the season when outdoor bathing feels good. It’s the season for high-speed rotation! There are also six types of open-air baths, and the reclining bath is the best ♨ Ah, that’s nice ♨ I’ll fall asleep! I can’t decide what to get! Pilaf, Neapolitan, hamburger steak, and pork cutlet are all 1,000 yen! Should I buy pocket tissues or super glue at the 100 yen store ? It feels unfair!? It’s hard to understand , but all the older guys on the Dodgers team are paying the same price… it feels unfair. Ah, that’s tough… but the chicken legs are very good! The katsu curry is consistently delicious. ♬ 1000 yen for katsu curry is on the cheap side, but… it definitely feels like you’re missing out at this restaurant. The crab cream croquette is also creamy and delicious. ♬ This is a menu item I’d like to have all the time! It’s so helpful to have a place like this near my university! Did you go to university there? It’s the taste of youth. ♬ It was a warm, local Western restaurant! One price feels good. Green’s favorite, fried shrimp, is only 1500 yen… but I agree. Can’t they make the fried shrimp 1000 yen too ? But you can really feel their commitment to quality. I think they charge 1500 yen for fried shrimp because they want to serve something delicious . I see… I see, that ‘s what they call a goodwill interpretation! Fried shrimp for 1000 yen is certainly a thing, isn’t it? Ah, speaking of fried shrimp, I’m reminded of Saru Shokudo’s fried shrimp. I really want to try it… I’ll have it next month!! One 7 Akita “Handmade Soba Kato” is a handmade soba restaurant located in Fiscal Street near Akita Station . It’s a highly skilled soba restaurant that has been selected as one of the 100 best soba restaurants. It gets very crowded during the day… but at night it has a quiet and calm atmosphere. They serve two-color soba noodles, both country and 28% soba, which are simply delicious. Wow, that’s great!! I wanted to try the tempura too, but when I looked at the reviews from my senior, everyone was raving about the soba♬ I’ll just have the soba . Well, I usually have soba in a morika seiro style, right? Mr. Green… the broth is quite strong, so be careful not to add too much to the 28% soba!! The landlady’s advice was , “I see… Even with the thick country soba, the soup is thick so that the flavor can really come through… The Nihachi soba is characterized by a clean, firm texture, while the country soba becomes more fragrant and sweet the more you chew it ♪ Both are delicious! Truly a work of art! It was a blissful soba to savor in the quiet surroundings♬ So nice… 8. Noshiro “Nakagawa Shokudo” Noshiro’s long-established specialty restaurant Nakagawa Shokudo is a restaurant that serves huge portions of pork cutlet curry, a delightful dish that comes with an additional curry ! Yes, last time I had pork cutlet curry and nearly fell over, right? This time I came for their famous pork cutlet bowl ! It seems like the same veteran mothers are still running the place, right? That’s right, I’m a little worried… They’re quite the veterans, after all. Ah, I see… Is that the kind of place it is? Possibly ! Possibly a pork cutlet bowl for 700 yen? Is this the city hall restaurant? Hey, thank you very much! ♬ This much volume for 700 yen! It has the gentle flavor of grandma’s cooking , but the portion of rice wasn’t generous. 💦 So, it was a bit too much! The pork cutlet was thick and the batter was crispy—a classic katsudon. ♬ It’s delicious! It’s not so good that it makes you stand up, but it’s fine! It’s a simple, consistently delicious katsudon , but there was still too much rice for me … Ah, just when I thought I was full, there was still a large portion of rice left in the bowl. 💦 Sorry, I can’t eat that much. 💦 But this amount for this price? It’s a blessing, isn’t it? A friend to working fathers! There’s no doubt about it! It ‘s a restaurant that retains the warmth of the Showa era. ♬ A rare restaurant for those who are in danger of running out of food! 9. Lake Hachirogata “Hatae Confectionery Shop” Established in 1923, this Japanese confectionery shop in Lake Hachirogata is a renowned local shop known for its angoma mochi (sweet rice cakes). It’s no exaggeration to say you went to Akita just to try it ! This is a famous sweet! ♬ To me, it’s definitely one of Japan’s top three Japanese sweets! Tohoku has some delicious red bean paste! ♬ Speaking of which, that’s true… Even I, who don’t like red bean paste, can’t help but gobble it down! This sense of guilt! ✨ The three layers of mochi, red bean paste, and sesame are in perfect balance! It’s not too sweet, and it makes you crave a strong tea with a lingering flavor! Ah, so good! The mochi is soft and stays chewy even after time has passed ! ♬ Simple, yet profound… I can see why it’s been loved for so long . I’ll definitely stop by again when I return to Hokkaido after winter … By the way, what are the top three Japanese sweets? And what’s that? Angoma mochi , wabi mochi , and Koshikakean! Saichi’s ohagi! Ah, Saichi’s ohagi! It’s delicious after all, is n’t it? 10 Akita “Yokotaya” Founded in 1950, Akita City is a long-established store located along the Asahikawa River. A sign of its renowned reputation, this restaurant is only open during the day, so… I rushed over here just in time . Apparently, this restaurant was featured on Bananamama’s Sekakuna Gourmet ! No wonder it’s so crowded! Yes, it’s hugely popular with local office workers and tourists alike! It’s packed even on weekdays! Eel is delicious, after all! The eel bowl comes in three layers: plum, bamboo, and pine. This time, I chose the minimum size plum. Yes, I eat food on the go every day, so I can’t be generous with my portions… I’ll slowly chop it up with a bundt! I don’t really understand what that means, but… they’re slowly grilling domestic eel over binchotan charcoal! The aroma is fragrant… The fragrant aroma is wafting through the air and whets my appetite to the max! Ah, the smell of charcoal-grilled kabayaki is amazing! I could eat rice just from the smoke! Right? It’s plump and soft , but the sauce is thoroughly soaked in! As expected from a long-established restaurant, we ‘ll do a great job! What language?! The next meal is a Sapporo East special that I’ll definitely want to eat again, so look forward to it ♬ See you soon . Meshitabees… well, I think there are still more delicious things to enjoy… but I’ll be heading south again to Kyushu and then back in the spring.
