島根県の水都、松江の魅力を探る

What’s up everybody? Welcome back to the perfect walk. This is Clint. When last I left you, I was waxing poetic about how nice the world would be if we could all get along and go anywhere we wanted to because everybody was peaceful. So, we’ll move on from those ramblings to some uh physical rambling. We’ll go check out uh what I believe are some samurai residences a little north of the castle and we’ll have the castle everpresent, omniresent in the background as we do. So, I’m sure there will be some excellent views. Looks beautiful for sure. We’re there next to the castle. Zoop. Looks like this is where you can board boats. Horawa sightseeing boat port. Home of sweets and coffee and boats. We won’t ride in the boats. We will look at the boats. I tried to film a boat ride the other day. Didn’t go well because all you could see was the back of people’s heads cuz you can’t pick your seat on the boat. Another truly unique little city. I really enjoy it. Wow, there are two people on that boat. Maybe we could have gone on a boat ride would be the only ones. But a boat with a tent roof is not good for filming either. So, we’ll walk. What is this? The perfect boat ride. The Anglican Church. There it is. Very prominently placed right here in the middle of town. And here are some of the samurai era homes, or at least ones that have been built to look like the actual ones that are here. Tough to say, they look authentic to me. Reminds me of Kurashiki. Totally underrated place. If you are visiting Japan, look it up. The Bonan Quarter, Kurosiki near Okyama. It’s pretty cool. And not unlike this with the water and the uh samurai era homes as well. Pretty cool. Hello. It’s pretty. Yeah. It looks like a museum in there. Let’s keep going. Let’s keep going. Look at this bridge. This has been here a minute. Heavenly. There’s some more samurai houses straight ahead. They must have been important living right next to the castle like this. in large homes. I don’t care what society you’re in. That’s a sign of status for sure. Live right next to your Lord’s Manor, status, trust, bond. Pretty cool. What I won’t know is which ones of these are authentic homes. Hopefully, it’ll be easy to tell when we get closer. I’d say the authentic ones will have like the ability to visit them. And if it doesn’t have that, then it’s probably not. It’s probably a residence that’s been tastefully designed to blend into the neighborhood. Like this one on the corner, I believe, is the ladder. Now, it doesn’t mean they’re not historic because they could have been here for a very long time. But down here, there’s some that have entrances. And there’s one up the hill to our right. There was an art museum. And it said at Samurai House, Tonab Museum of Art. And it looks like we’re just doing a whole circuit around the castle here. Yep. Pretty cool. Heat. Heat. Yeah, very pretty. This one looks pretty old and it’s got a sign out front. Yeah, right here. I’d say this one behind this gate is a very authentic period house. cross over and take a peek inside. Entrance fee that uh we’re not paying today, but I wanted to give you a peek. And you just never know whether you’re allowed to film or not. So this is cool. Look at this duck low bridge. Everybody down. How cool. We get a couple of those. [Applause] Very cool. And this one right here also looks like an authentic samurai home with a museum. Definitely. Oh, this one is the Laio Hearn house. So that’s where he lived when he was in Japan, or at least one place he lived while he was in Japan. You can look him up on the Wikipedia. Oh, no. That was a samurai house. This is the Hearn residence right here. A little less assuming. That makes more sense, but still right in the thick of it, huh? They had a picture of his wife there. So, I guess he married a Japanese woman while he was here. So, let’s continue on into Matsui proper across the bridge and explore the city. It’s a pretty building. All right. I think if we keep going that direction, we’ll be in the middle of a field. So, back we go. And to the right. Middle of a field sounds pretty appealing. But I also need to have dinner. And dinner sounds more appealing. So a right here. [Applause] Yeah, that’s more like it cuz we’re going to be walking back towards the station now. That’s where I’m going to find some dinner. And tomorrow is a new adventure. Canvas. I guess canvas is legal here. Pretty cool looking. The castle is really well hidden in that forest. Oh, this one looks new. Brand new. Wow. I think they just built this for us. for martial arts center h. So if you cross over there, you are here. So can we just walk through here? Kind of thought this was all castle, but I guess not. How about that? So there’s a neighborhood here. Entrance to Tinju Forest Stroll. Caramesu History Museum. This way. Huh. This walk looks nice. I don’t know which way should we go. Let’s just go this way. See what happens. We had three different paths to choose from there. It’s pretty. I changed my mind. Decided to go up the hill. A few more people are headed this way. Valley of chameleas. Interesting. And the castle tower and the history museum are this way. back door. And there’s people living right up here next to the castle. Okay. So, now we’re just walking in a neighborhood and the castle’s right there. [Music] Wild. Uh, they’re going to the shrine. Fantastic. This looks like the entrance to the history museum on our right. and we’ll keep exploring. Wow, somebody’s doing very well for themselves over here. They’re even building a little water feature. And in case you were wondering, there’s the castle. Crazy. So, this island is certainly bigger than I assumed. It’s not just the castle. It’s the castle and a museum and a whole freaking neighborhood and a nature walk. And that’s the exit. So you can’t go that way. And I think the castle tower here is still authentic. I think it’s one of the handful of Japanese castles that never burned to the ground. A lot of them did burn and then were replaced, but I think this one is authentic. Oh, this is lovely. We’ll stroll through here on our way back. There’s the guardian spirit of the castle. There’s some crows going at it up there. [Applause] I think today’s going to be a 26,000 step day. based on where we started this walk. If you’re coming to Japan, everybody bring your walking shoes. I always have my walking shoes. [Applause] [Applause] All right, everybody. Well, you know the drill. We do half hour segments and this episode has reached its conclusion. So, we will see you next time for one more walk for Matsui.
