Chegamos em COZUMEL, mas nem tudo saiu como o esperado
Hi everyone, I’m Rocheli and I’m Victor. And welcome to the Um Destino Vez channel! We’re currently in Cancún, Mexico, which is our base , and today we’ll begin exploring the region, starting with Playa del Carmén. And if all goes well, we’ll head to the island of Cozumel, which is just ahead. This region is an hour from Cancún and, in fact, between Cancún and Tulum. But to get there, we’ll drive, and you’ll come with us. Let’s go! You blinked, and we’re already on the ferry to Cozumel. For those who didn’t see the previous video about prices in Cancún, we’re not alone. We’re with my parents, who arrived directly from Brazil to enjoy a short but enjoyable vacation here with us in Mexico. This arrival in Playa del Carmén was very quick. We didn’t have much time because we left a little late, mainly due to work. So we kind of rushed, getting quotes from a few agencies, and we’ve already booked a trip to Cozumel and a tour there. The weather isn’t great, but let’s hope it clears up, right? Anyway, to get to the island, you need to take a taxi, which is a ferry—a boat you’ll catch and make the trip. There are three companies that offer this service. We’re coming with Winjet, which is the most economical of all. We paid 520 for a return trip, but that’s already part of the package we booked. There’s also Ultramar and Xcaret , which is the Xcaret company—it has a park, it has everything. They also have a ferry that goes to Isla Mujeres and Cozumel. It’s basically the same thing, right? They’ll pick you up at the port, at the same place, and then take you to the island. It’s about a 30-40 minute ride there. About 30-40 minutes, depending on the weather. Here, you can see it’s quite rocky. Yeah, we’re at the bottom, so we can’t see very well, right? Because it’s crowded up there, anyway, the weather’s a bit cloudy. Here there’s air conditioning, at least it’s quite comfortable and cool. And Ultramar and Xcaret, they cost around 600, 640, more or less. Round trip for both, right? Round trip. You can use them to go and come back whenever you want. There’s no set time, even though it’s written there when you search online, but it’s totally fine. This route runs every one or two hours, depending on the company. Some companies even run every half hour, and there are some options and attractions on the island. It’s a big island, right? Because we say, “Oh, let’s go to an island over there,” it’s a very big island. There’s the option of going around in a buggy, there’s the option of renting a motorcycle, renting a car. We even asked the guy on the boat. The scooter costs 700 Mexican pesos a day, for example, for two people, or the buggy, which is 1,500 here. We thought it was expensive, but we saw that you can get it for up to 1,000, but that would be the best option for four people. But with the time we have, there are other tours : boats, catamarans, speedboats, scuba diving, snorkeling, and many others. We’re going to do one of those, but we’ll show you in a bit. And the reason is that Cozumel is one of the best places in the world for diving, because the water is so clear here. We’re in the algae season, so that might hinder things a bit, but even so, they say it’s great for diving even in bad weather. There’s one spot there that’s one of the best. We’ll tell them more about it later. But that’s it. We’ve arrived, and people are offering rentals, tours, everything. There’s everything here. Then everyone speaks, shouting as loud as they can. Just leaving the port, there’s a statue of swallows. That’s because Cozumel comes from the Mayan language, which was actually Casimil. And the translation means land of swallows. That’s why there’s this bronze statue here, symbolizing Cozumel’s original name. I had to wear a little cap because even though the sun isn’t shining, it’s very hot and bright, so it ends up obstructing the view a bit. And we have about half an hour to enjoy the island a bit before boarding the catamaran and starting our tour, sailing the seas around here. And look how cool the tiles are; the floor here is made of shells. There are several shells, and since it’s been sanded, you can see them formed there. A good view of the sea. And there’s more… Up ahead, there’s a shipwreck, look, just lying on the coast. It’s one of the city’s symbols, too. And there are several bronze statues. Over there, we can see another one. There are also some on the other side . So, there are several bronze statues along this coast, next to the pier, next to the boat, where tourists arrive and depart. We’re here in the city area; there are 90,000 inhabitants here in Cozumel. So, it’s a pretty big city, even considering we’re in the middle of an island, in the middle of the Caribbean Sea, but within the city, there’s not much to do. There are points where you can drive around the island. It’s nice to rent a cart, rent something to go around. But in the city itself, there’s a little downtown area that we’ll take a stroll around to explore. Right in front of where the vacationers arrive and depart, there’s this main square with the Cozumel sign. There’s some art around, like this clock, and this Mayan figure, the goddess Ixchel, the goddess of the moon. Cozumel also has some Mayan structures from that time, specifically from the Mayans. There are crafts, restaurants, bars, artwork, tourist attractions, and signs. So this really is a main location and easy to access if you’re not renting a car and only booking boat tours, as we’re going to do. But if you can’t book in Playa del Carmén, you can book here. The price, from what we were looking at, is a little more expensive, so sometimes it’s worth booking directly there. But as we said, negotiate the price, otherwise you’ll end up paying a bit more. Look how beautiful it is here, all decorated, this bar, the restaurant, the souvenirs here, all these shops. Very Instagrammable. The time has come. Let’s take our catamaran tour. We booked it right there on the beach, and there are drinks included, some snacks, and we’ll pass by some spots before visiting one of the main tourist attractions here in Cozumel: El Cielo and El Cielito, which is the sky they say— but why sky? There are several, or rather, they tend to be advertised as such—there are several starfish in the water. It’s a light blue, it looks like an open, clear sky. Today the sky isn’t clear and clear. I hope it’s not like the sky we’re seeing. If the sky below is, it’ll be helping, right? But, I can already tell you that the water here is very clear, very beautiful. I think it’s getting close to the promise, at least. Another cool option we’ve seen people do is these transparent boats. Yes, but for those who don’t like diving, you can see the fish directly from the boat, which is also pretty cool. But these tours are shorter, lasting two hours. There are also traditional speedboats that you can book, and then there’s the catamaran, which we’re going on. Of the three, this is the most expensive. Then comes the catamaran, then the speedboat. But remember, this one is less time than we’ll have on the catamaran. There’s no food. And there’s no food. Let’s get on board. Be careful. Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen, on behalf of our captain and the entire crew, we extend a warm welcome! We’re delighted to have you on board, and we want to remind you that our team of experts will be at your disposal at all times. Time to get in the water. Here you also get a mask and snorkel for diving and snorkeling. Now I need to fill my vest. Look, what I can say is that even with very overcast weather, it didn’t rain, but it’s very cloudy, so it’s still worth it. Very beautiful, clear water. Look at this! Look at our plate! There’s a hot dog, fresh ceviche, a tortilla to eat with the ceviche, and a cold watermelon. I can feel it here in my hand! Back in Playa del Carmén. It was a very busy, hectic day. We didn’t even get to record much for you because the music was on the whole time. The crowd was having fun, dancing, playing games, Victor participated, and almost won a tequila. I tried, but failed. But anyway, when we didn’t have music on the boat, we were diving , and so I couldn’t, well, record much here. But it was really cool. Enjoy it, with the weather completely overcast. Now, at the end of the day, it decided to open up, and there’s a beautiful sunset. It’s just a sight to behold. Obviously, the water, whether cloudy, raining, or sunny, is very beautiful. Cozumel has its charm. It’s one of the five best places to dive in the world. And we proved it because it truly is beautiful, absolutely beautiful. The trip was very positive . We managed to see starfish. There are actually a lot of them down there. If you look, it looks like a sky. There are several. And they’re huge. I didn’t think they’d be that big. El Cielito is where you relax after eating, so you spend more time there. Then there’s a very deep part, and if you don’t know how to swim there, it’s a bit nerve-wracking because the sea was quite rough, making it difficult to swim even with a life jacket. It was more uncomfortable for someone who doesn’t like swimming, but it’s not that great; it’s not such a peaceful snorkel. At least today was like that, right? This tour cost us 950 Mexican pesos per person, including the whole tour, the food included, the drinks (which were open bar), alcoholic drinks, beer, right? Margaritas, soda, what else? Water. Water. So, it was well paid, a hefty price, for sure. But it was really nice. And now, back here, let’s see if we can take a stroll along one of the main streets, the main tourist street here in Playa del Carmén. Going up Port Street, there’s this gallery. And here we start Fifth Avenue! This is the most famous street here. We’re parallel to the sea, but about two blocks up. It’s where you’ll find restaurants, bars, cafes, souvenir shops, convenience stores, nightlife, and the lively scene. It’s where life and tourism happen here in Playa del Carmén. But we see that the nightlife is busier. Playa del Carmén’s reputation is precisely this trip to Cozumel and this Fifth Avenue, which is really cool for enjoying the nightlife. Even during the day, we saw a lot of activity, but during the day, there are so many people approaching us for tours all the time . It can even be a bit annoying, and at night, it’s so peaceful. Everyone who’s already been out and about, everyone who just wants to really enjoy themselves, eat something, buy a souvenir with the family—it’s a really nice atmosphere. The two of them are there, huh? Strong and tired from the tour. They’re tired. It was a busy day; we left home early, got in the car, and came here. So I think they must be tired, still recovering from a little flu, poor things. But they’re there, strong and ready to join us. After all, there’s more to come. Calm down, this video was a shorter one, but soon we’ll visit a place I’ve already been, right? In this case, I won’t be visiting, but you will see this wonderful place. I didn’t give you many memories, but we’ll show you everything and refresh this experience in one of the seven wonders of the world. There, I said it. There, I said it. It delivers too much. Oh, it’s because people here like, subscribe to the channel, comment what they think; they deserve information to know what’s coming in the next video, right? The size of this souvenir shop here, also right across from McDonald’s. A huge Mexican skull here, huh? Look at the size of this skull. Look how beautiful this church is too. Information is everywhere, right? Well, look, you turn here, there’s music playing, there’s a cafeiroma, a huge skull like an Olinda doll. Yeah, this one must be a little chapel here in town. They’re very religious here, so here’s a tip for you. Whenever you come and want to go into a church, try to wear short shorts and a loose-fitting blouse. For example, I’m in my swimsuit, still wrapped in a towel. I’m not going in under any circumstances out of respect, since they’re so religious. This is true in Mexico in general, not just here. Yes. And behind this little chapel here is the main square. Apparently, there’s a show going on, some kind of commotion going on there. And there’s a portal there that’s the Mayan portal. This is the main square, and after it, you’ll find the beach. So when you take an ADO bus straight to Playa del Carmen, this is probably where you’ll end up, right on Fifth Avenue, very well located. You’ll stumble upon this. Here, look, the arch the street mentioned. Very beautiful, very popular. During the day, there’s a view. Even more charming, because it looks like the sea in the background, which is right there, but now it’s really dark, right? There are several performances here. Some people are also dressed in traditional clothes. And I don’t know if there has been a performance or will be. On this side, there are the papla voladores, which is a performance they also do, where they climb up high and start spinning. Let’s see if there will be a performance to show soon. It’s something very traditional here in the region, in Quintana Roo, in Yucatán. I think it’ll happen here soon. They’re warming up, right? Look, we took a walk in Cancún, but I haven’t seen anywhere like this, right? A pedestrian area, a place where you could walk and have everything well-organized. So, in that regard, Playa del Carmén is ahead. It’s really more laid-back. You can see that the atmosphere here is different, that more beachy vibe; in Cancún, we feel more of a city atmosphere. Tulum is already a more sophisticated place, and Playa del Carmén is a bit more reminiscent of the beaches in Brazil, right? And here, it’s recommended to stay at least one or two nights. In our case, we did a return trip because we already booked a longer, more economical stay in Cancún and rented a car. So it was interesting for us. But for those coming here, it’s worth dedicating time, especially since there are other attractions very close to Playa del Carmén, which we might cover in future videos. Let’s see. Or if you want to make the beach your base , that ‘s also possible. We chose Cancún because of the prices, but it’s also possible here. We even tried walking the entire Fifth Avenue, but we reached the height where our car is parked. So, we’ll return to Cancún now and say goodbye to you in another video here on your favorite travel channel. We hope so, right? We hope. We hope. Comment below what you thought of the beach, what you thought of Cozumel, if you’d come here, and if you thought it was beautiful in this video. You can be sure that if you come in another season, even during the season we did and on a sunny day, you’ll find it 10,000 times more beautiful, because it’s an extraordinary place. Unfortunately, we weren’t so lucky, but we enjoyed it anyway and share a little of this experience with you, as there’s much to come here in Mexico. We’re slowly deciding when we’ll go next, which destinations, and we’re taking a more relaxed trip now, more relaxed, sightseeing more than we did before. Is it working, or is it a little different? Comment what you think of these changes. And from now on, the idea is to show even more of Mexico, even outside the part everyone knows. But first, we will visit some very touristy spots, including in the next video. And we’ll see you there. Bye, bye!
Chegou a hora de conhecermos Cozumel, uma das ilhas mais bonitas do México localizada entre Cancún e Tulum, com águas cristalinas e aquele visual de tirar o fôlego!
