The Ultimate Guide to Tokyo Skytree!

Skytree is the tallest structure in Japan and is now considered Tokyo’s number one landmark. However, I think many people are wondering whether it is worth waiting in line to go there during their limited time in Japan. To help solve this problem, we will be focusing on the paid facilities and restaurants within Skytree. I will mainly introduce the Skytree observation deck, Sumida Aquarium where you can easily experience the animals, and Solamachi, where you can find a variety of souvenirs and restaurants. Each chapter provides a detailed explanation of the places you will visit, so please take a look at the places that interest you. I also share my impressions in each chapter. I hope this will be helpful for those considering visiting the Skytree. So, first I will start by introducing the Skytree. After getting off at either Tokyo Skytree Station or Oshiage (Skytree-mae) Station, walk towards the nearby towering Skytree. This will take you roughly to the Skytree. Continue walking to the base of the Skytree. If you go further, you will see the reception desk. If you have an advance ticket, go to the left, and if you are buying tickets now, go to the right. If you have an advance ticket, make sure to arrive at this entrance on time. If you plan to buy tickets on the day of the event, be prepared for a long wait. Especially on holidays, it gets very crowded. Same-day tickets can be purchased at the ticket counter next to the reception desk. Tembo Deck admission fee (holiday adult price, weekday discount, children’s discount, etc. available) Follow the staff’s instructions and purchase a ticket from an available ticket machine. If you purchase a ticket on the day or purchase a ticket in advance, you will be issued a QR code. Scan the QR code on your ticket at the security gate and proceed to the elevator. Now let’s take the elevator to the observation deck. The elevator that goes directly to the observation deck has a display that lets you intuitively see how far you have climbed. We arrived at the observation deck. The Tembo Deck is divided into three floors: 350, 345, and 340. I’ll now show you the unique features of each. Floor 350 is the main floor of the Tembo Deck. It is the largest and is often used for events. This is a monument called “W1SH RIBBON.” If you look closely, you’ll see that the I in WISH has been replaced with a 1. Inspired by the tallest tower in Japan, people tie ribbons with our greatest wishes written on them. The wishes of those who visit here are written on many ribbons. Most limited-time events and collaboration events are held around here. There is a fee for developing photos, but the staff will also assist you with special photography requests. When enjoying the view from Floor 350, it is convenient to look at the time-lapse display, which shows landmarks. The Asahi Beer headquarters building with that golden object on top is a famous landmark in the Asakusa area. If you get thirsty or tired on the observation deck, head to SKYTREE CAFE on floors 350 and 340. You can enjoy soft drinks such as coffee, tea, and juice, snacks such as corn dogs, and alcoholic beverages such as beer and cocktails. You can also enjoy TAKETSURU, a vintage Japanese whiskey, at a reasonable price, so be sure to get one as a souvenir! There are tables available next to the counter. Coffee tastes even better when you sit by the window and look out over Tokyo. As I was daydreaming and sipping my coffee, a cleaning gondola passed by the window. The transparency of the Skytree’s windows is maintained by human hands. (I learned this for the first time.) Let me introduce you to Tembo Deck Floor 345. You can get to Floor 345 from Floor 350 using stairs or escalators. Floor 345 is about half the size of floor 350 and houses a souvenir shop and restaurant. Let’s take a look at the souvenir shop, Skytree Shop. The overall view of the store is a little cramped, but there are a lot of people there. The Skytree Shop has many shelves filled with products incorporating elements of Japan and Skytree. Small interior folding screens, ornaments, dolls, and fans KIRIKO (Japanese Faceted glass), mugs, coasters, and a miniature Skytree The miniature Skytree lights up with LEDs to resemble the real thing at night. Just looking at the unique souvenirs with the outdoor scenery as a backdrop is exciting. There is a high-end restaurant called 634 (MUSASHI) in the back, but it was fully booked. What a shame. Introducing the Sky Deck on Floor 340. You can access it via stairs from Floor 345. It is about the same size as floor 345 and has a rest area, glass floor, and SKYTREE CAFE annex. There are few places to sit inside Skytree, so if you get tired, you can relax in this rest area. There is also a hand rest installed on the counter by the window. The scenery you see while you’re resting may be the one that sticks in your mind the most. At the back of the rest area is the glass floor, a specialty of this floor. It’s not often in your life that you get to look directly down from an altitude of 340 meters. This time, we will be showing you the view directly below through uncut tempered glass. There are other glass floors besides this one, so be sure to experience the other scenery with your own eyes. There is also a commemorative photo spot where, for a fee, staff will take photos of you standing directly on the glass floor. Don’t worry, there are also glass floors where you can take photos for free. Introducing the Skywalk Corridor at an altitude of 450 meters. The TEMBO GALLERIA can only be accessed via a dedicated elevator from floor 350. TEMBO GALLERIA admission fee (admission to the TEMBO GALLERIA only is not permitted, includes Tembo Deck admission fee, adult holiday price) The sign in front of the elevator shows the current weather conditions and the status of Tokyo landmarks that can be seen. When you are ready to go to the TEMBO GALLERIA, have the security gate scan the QR code on your ticket and go through the gate. By the way, you can return to the observation deck later. I will deliver an uncut video of the elevator to the TEMBO GALLERIA. (After passing through the dimly lit interior of the Skytree, you can see the entire view of Tokyo, which will leave you gasping in awe.) We arrived at the TEMBO GALLERIA. Introducing the TEMBO GALLERIA. The TEMBO GALLERIA features a two-level structure spanning Floors 445 and 450. Floor 445 has a photo spot and a rotating corridor to floor 450. At the photo spot, a professional photographer will take your picture with the sky as the background. The photo will also be processed with CG to make the ground appear transparent. Now, let’s go up to floor 450 via the rotating corridor. The rotating corridor is a gentle uphill slope, and is named “TEMBO GALLERIA” because it allows you to look out from the sky. There are displays showing landmarks all along this corridor, so you can peek at any spot you like. To show you the easy-to-understand places, first of all, Sensoji Temple. Tokyo Tower You can see all of Tokyo, including Odaiba. The TEMBO GALLERIA offers a 360° panoramic view, so find your favorite spot and capture it. Let’s take a look at floor 450. This is the highest area that the general public can enter. The overall view of the Skytree also indicates that this is the top, and many people take photos here with the view of the tower next to them. This is about half the distance of the previous corridor. It’s amazing that there are flush toilets at such a height. Before I knew it, I had reached the top of the Flore 450. The place where this illustration is hanging is the top of the Skytree. The altitude is 451.2 meters. Did you enjoy the highest view of any Japanese structure? Once you’ve enjoyed the TEMBO GALLERIA, head back to the Tembo Deck. Continue straight downhill. You will soon see the elevator. It is usually crowded, so you will have to wait your turn.
I will also be showing you the direct elevator from the TEMBO GALLERIA to the Tembo Deck in full. We returned to the Tembo Deck. This elevator connects to floor 345.(It is for downhill use only; you cannot return to the TEMBO GALLERIA.) Continue exploring the observation deck or head back down to ground level. To return to ground level, take the down elevator on floor 340. There are a total of four down elevators, so you can return to the ground level smoothly even when it is crowded. There are various types of displays inside the down elevator. This time, the music was pop-style and featured fun memories of Tokyo. When someone says “See you again,” I feel sad to say goodbye. Now that we’re back on the ground, how was your time at the Skytree Observatory? Including the TEMBO GALLERIA , it costs about $25 per person, so you’ll need to be prepared to pay a bit of extra for the price. However, it is a rare experience to be able to look over the mountains and see Asakusa, Tokyo Dome, and other sights from the highest point in Tokyo. It’s also an amazing experience to see Mount Fuji on a clear day. I think the impact will fade after two or more tries, but the first time you try it, you’ll be impressed beyond the price. From here, we will introduce the recommended points of another tourist destination, Sumida Aquarium, and the shopping center Solamachi. Introducing Sumida Aquarium. Its concept is: “The closer you get, the more you’ll love it.” There is a ticket booth on the right side of the entrance. Sumida Aquarium admission fee (price for one adult, discounted price for those under 18) Let me start by introducing the entrance. On the wall in front of the entrance is a display of the ecosystem of the creatures kept at the aquarium. If you go further, you will see a map of the entire aquarium. There is a security gate ahead. Have your QR code ready and go through the gate. If you go up the stairs behind the gate, you will arrive at the first area, “Natural Aquascap ” Each aquarium in this area forms its own ecosystem. Small fish absorb oxygen from the water, and the aquatic plants photosynthesize the carbon dioxide that is released, synthesizing oxygen. It condenses the cycle of life and feels reminiscent of the Japanese concept of wabi-sabi. Details of the above content are displayed, so if you’re interested, please pause and take a look. Let’s take a look at the next area, the fantastical “jellyfish” area. The first tank is a little larger, with the color of the red jellyfish standing out against the blue background. Next, let’s take a look at the exhibit for small jellyfish. Small fringed jellyfish Comb jelly Leuckartiara octona There were many small jellyfish that I didn’t know, such as fried egg jellyfish. In the cylindrical tank, active jellyfish are moving around energetically. I didn’t know that jellyfish could swim so powerfully that they could resist the waves. At the end of the jellyfish area is a large aquarium.Countless moon jellyfish swim in the fan-shaped pool, which is about 15 meters long. The jellyfish are illuminated by randomly lit lamps, causing their colors to constantly change. Although I’m a little sad to leave the jellyfish behind, I move on to the next area. The next area is a group of four fish tanks with a coral reef motif. Each one exquisitely depicts a different coral reef ecosystem. In front of each tank there is a panel that shows what lives there, so take a look and compare them. The display also changes with time. Each tank is about 10 meters long, giving you the feeling that you are looking directly at the fish in the ocean. Garden eels live on the bottom of the water and are timid, so they quickly burrow into the ground, but as you can see here, they can be observed just 10cm away. Follow the route downstairs. The next floor is an area with two large aquariums, one of which is the large penguin tank you see now. This tank is primarily home to Magellanic penguins, and from the upper floor you can get a bird’s-eye view of their behavior and habits. You might even be able to see how friendly the penguins are with each other. Some swim slowly, while others swim incredibly fast. There was one that was incredibly fast. If you want to get a closer look at the penguins, head down the slope to the lower level. We’ve arrived on the lower level. We’re 5 meters away from the penguins. The penguins are indeed adorable, and their little bellies are just too cute. If you approach the tank, you can see the penguins from the water (please note that hitting the tank or putting anything in it is prohibited). When you look at it this way, you can see that the way penguins swim is very unique. Friendly individuals will come closer to you, but make sure not to scare them. Keepers also check the penguins’ health in the mornings and evenings. The penguin being held is also placed obediently on the scale. In this way, the penguins’ health is maintained by measuring their weight and checking for any significant changes in their physical condition. After the weigh-in, it’s time for food. At this time, all the penguins gather near the zookeeper, so you can’t see them anywhere else in the tank. Sunshine Aquarium in Ikebukuro also has a unique penguin tank, but Sumida Aquarium also offers a different experience and is very satisfying. Let’s take a look at another tank on the lower level, the “Ogasawara Sea Life”. This is the largest tank here, connecting the upper and lower levels. This aquarium houses approximately 500 creatures of 45 species that live in the Ogasawara Islands, which have been designated a World Heritage Site. It is estimated to be about 10 metres tall. Suddenly, sharks appear. The lighting here is subdued, allowing you to experience the shady shallows of the Ogasawara Islands. Please enjoy the fish that are uniquely Japanese. There is also another passageway near the Ogasawara Large Aquarium that connects the upper and lower floors. This is a straight slope, and with the dim blue lighting and occasional mirrored reflections, you will feel as if you are walking in the deep sea. Small aquariums are set up throughout the corridors, displaying jellyfish and small fish. At the very end of the corridor, there is a large projection-mapped jellyfish.I understand that it’s safe, but the jellyfish are so big that it makes me feel like I’m a small fish being preyed upon. After seeing all the aquariums on the lower level, you will find the Penguin Cafe and Aqua Academy near the exit. On the left is the Penguin Cafe and on the right is the Aqua Academy. Although there is a limit to the number of participants at Aqua Academy, children can enjoy crafts for free. At Penguin Cafe, a variety of food and drinks inspired by the aquarium are sold at reasonable prices. Near the cash register, there are food samples of the featured products on display. Many of them look cute. There is a refrigerator nearby, so if there is something you want, you can get it from there. There are also plenty of alcoholic drinks and limited-time items. The entire menu can be viewed using the QR code posted nearby. I was thirsty so I ordered a colorful jellyfish soda. The white dome that resembles a jellyfish is actually a marshmallow, and there is a sphere of jelly at the bottom of the container, so you can enjoy it with soda. Once you’ve had your fill of Sumida Aquarium and are ready to leave, head to the exit near the large penguin tank. There is also a family tree of the penguins living here posted near the exit. It’s insane. Each penguin has a note. The penguin named Daifuku will do a back arch when he eats. This penguin is named Ichigo, and apparently begs all the staff for food at mealtimes. As you make your way to the exit… There is a one-way gate. Once you pass through this gate, you cannot return to the aquarium. The exit leads to a souvenir shop selling aquarium goods. This is the jellyfish corner. I’ve seen a lot of character stuffed animals, but I’ve never seen a stuffed animal shaped like a chandelier before. The jellyfish has a cute face and is soft and fluffy to the touch. Stuffed animals such as seals, turtles, and penguins. The penguin stuffed animals are a little on the realistic side, but they are all cute. When I see this stuffed animal, I am reminded of the penguin I saw swimming earlier. Useful souvenirs include spoons, forks, plates, mugs, and other items. With this lunch box, you will always be able to remember Sumida Aquarium. This penguin-shaped smartphone stand is super cute. Another thing that Japanese people love is plastic sheet with pictures of animals on them. This one lists the shapes of sea creatures and their kanji. Ideal for those who want to focus on studying Japanese. My impression of Sumida Aquarium is that it is smaller and has fewer species of creatures than other famous aquariums, but you can get closer to the creatures than at any other aquarium. Introducing Tokyo Solamachi, the shopping center located at the base of Tokyo Skytree. Tokyo Solamachi is huge and has many stores, so we will introduce you to some of the best places. I recommend going to Solamachi first thing in the morning after going up Tokyo Skytree. Let’s get started. The first floor is mainly filled with restaurants and souvenir shops related to Tokyo. Matsumoto Kiyoshi Loose stone shop Flower Shop A leather shoe store made in Japan using Japanese materials There are many convenient shops such as Marion Crepes. If you’re looking for a place to eat and drink on the first floor, I recommend CLASUWA, located near the entrance. The morning set of aged toast and coffee here sells out quickly. I ordered cafe au lait and thick toast with Earl Grey coffee. The second floor is mostly filled with fashion and miscellaneous goods stores. There seem to be more Japanese people around here than foreigners. There are many subculture clothing stores for girls, as well as casual and inexpensive shops, just like those at Shibuya 109. It seems like there’s always some kind of seasonal event going on.
(This time it was an autumn reading event.) There is also a sweets street on the second floor where you can enjoy a variety of Japanese and Western sweets. The iconic shop on Sweets Street is ” HANERU, Fermented butter specialty store” This shop sells baked goods made with luxurious fermented butter. The butter castella is delicious, but the Tokyo Skytree pie is only available at the Solamachi store. It looks long from the product photo! I actually bought it. It is about 25cm long, which is 1/2500th the size of Tokyo Skytree. The butter flavor and sweetness are sufficient, but it is a bit dry, so it tastes even better if you have a drink with it. The third floor is mainly focused on fashion and food, just like the second floor. However, if you’re looking for a hearty meal, the third floor is a great place to shop. There is a large food court on the third floor, with nearly 20 restaurants. Near the entrance, there are product samples from popular stores on display, making it a great place to find what you want to eat. Japanese soba Thai cuisine There are various food shops, including udon shops. However, there is an even more delicious restaurant on the third floor, which I will introduce later. Let me introduce you to OKOPPE Milk Stand, where you can enjoy high-quality milk at a good price. OKOPPE Milk Stand is a sweets shop that uses raw milk delivered directly from Hokkaido. Yogurt & Milk Drinks parfait and, they sell crepes etc. While you wait, you can look at the menu and carefully consider what you want to eat. I ordered the haskap berry and yogurt parfait. Haskap is a type of berry that grows only in Hokkaido and is highly sour and bitter, but is also rich in nutrients. The vanilla ice cream and yogurt ice cream, along with the bitter and sweet haskap jam, bring out the delicious flavor of the wild fruit. The 4th floor has a large Japan souvenir area, probably because it is where the Tokyo Skytree reception is located. There are many shops selling folk crafts. A caricature shop visited by celebrities A knife shop that uses the techniques of katana craftsmen If you want to buy some Japanese souvenirs, it’s a good idea to just wander around. There is also a relatively large JUMP SHOP opening here. Passersby were taking commemorative photos with Luffy one after another. The life-size Luffy is full of energy. The way sound effects are turned into objects is something you’d only find at a JUMP SHOP . The most prominent part of the store is where limited edition items from Naruto, One Piece, My Hero Academia, and more are displayed. There are also many other official goods from popular works lined up in the store. This store has a large selection of Chainsaw Man Pochita dolls. Choose the size you like. There are also iconic, non-sale items that can only be seen here, so if you’re a fan of Japanese manga, be sure to visit. Don’t miss the Pokemon Center on the 4th floor. This is the only place where you can see the majestic Pikachu riding Rayquaza. I think you can get most of the official Pokemon goods here, except for limited edition items. The store’s distinctive long and narrow display shows a variety of Pokemon. Can you name the Pokémon? Pikachu is still popular and there are many products available. However, my personal favorite Pokemon is Fuecoco. There are also plenty of Pokémon card game battle tables. When there are events, the store offers a variety of special offers, such as limited edition data for the latest titles. This Mega Rayquaza exhibit is incredibly detailed and impressive. If you want to have a proper meal in Solamachi, I highly recommend RIGOLETTO ROTISSERIE AND WINE on the 3rd floor. The stylish interior and the variety of luxurious and wild dishes will make your memories of Tokyo Skytree even more special. You can see a rotisserie demonstration on a small display in front of the store. The interior is decorated in white and red with a gorgeous chandelier, and the wooden tables and chairs create a relaxing atmosphere. There are counter seats, and the marble construction gives it a luxurious feel. Cutlery, salt, pepper and spicy olive oil are provided on the table. This is the menu. At the top of the list is their specialty dish, rotisserie chicken. Other variations include appetizers, pasta, pizza, paella, etc. Once you’ve finished ordering, relax and check out the store while you wait. If you sit near the kitchen, you can see the oven and other appliances. The rotisserie chicken, the specialty dish we ordered, was served. Served as a half bird, you can portion it out however you like. The condiments provided are, from left to right, rock salt, curry spice, honey mustard, and lemon. I’d like to try it right away. The aroma of slowly roasted chicken will satisfy my hunger. Serve with rock salt. Honey mustard is also delicious. I continue eating the chicken as my instincts dictate… I wanted to eat something else, so I ordered FUNGHI (mushroom and cheese pizza). It is topped with mozzarella cheese, parmesan cheese and lots of mushrooms. Grind the pepper in a mill. Drizzle spicy olive oil all over. This incredibly delicious pizza combines the flavors of two types of cheese and mushrooms with freshly ground pepper and mild, spicy olive oil. The counter seats become a bar at night. In addition to wine, they also serve whiskey and original cocktails. The prices were reasonable and the food was served quickly, so I think this is the best value restaurant on the Skytree grounds. For those of you who watched until the end, I will tell you about a hidden spot at Tokyo Skytree that is not well known even among locals. From the first floor entrance of Solamachi, look towards CLASUWA and turn 180 degrees backward. After that, go straight and you will see a white elevator, so get on it. It goes up quite high. I reached the rooftop. We arrived at the 31st floor of the little-known Solamachi building. It’s located at an altitude of 150 meters, but it’s free to visit. There are also telescopes available for a fee, so this is the best value for money view you can see for free. Most of the restaurants on the rooftop of Solamachi are high-end, but Arizuki is the only place where you can eat reasonably. Arizuki is a MOTSUNABE(Japanese hotpot with offal) restaurant, but for lunch they offer chicken set meals. The store’s appearance is purely Japanese. If there is no staff member there, ring the bell. However, the interior is modern and the view outside is amazing once you are seated. The menu has photos of every item, so even if you can’t read it, you can still get a feel for the atmosphere. When ordering, scan the QR code on your seat with your smartphone. You can order products from your smartphone. The ordering system supports Japanese, English, Chinese, and Korean. 15 minutes after ordering, the CHICKEN NANBAN set meal was served. The set meal includes CHICKEN NANBAN, white rice, miso soup, two side dishes, and dessert. The view outside and the colorful food make for great photos. CHICKEN NANBAN is a type of fried food, a local cuisine of deep-fried chicken breast topped with a sweet and sour sauce and tartar sauce. This set contains three large chicken breasts. The richly seasoned chicken nanban pairs perfectly with rice, making it hard to stop eating. Eating it with the accompanying lettuce gives it a different texture. Miso soup is the heart of Japan. The side dishes are also rich in flavour and add a nice accent to the meal. Before I knew it, there was only one piece of chicken left…who ate my food? When you’re hungry, CHICKEN NANBAN is so delicious it’s almost addictive. I still have some KINAKO MOCHI left for dessert. The mochi is filled with bean paste and coated with KINAKO (roasted soybean flour). It has a light sweetness that goes well with tea. Thank you for the meal! Price of Chicken Nanban Set Meal (The receipt in the video differs from the price list because we ordered other dishes. Sorry.) When you leave the store, press the button on your table to let the staff know you are leaving. It is no exaggeration to say that Arizuki’s set meals are causing price destruction. If you want to feel at home in Japan, come to Arizuki and enjoy local cuisine at reasonable prices. What did you think of “The Ultimate Guide to Tokyo Skytree”? After watching this video, you will be able to decide whether Tokyo Skytree is cost-effective and whether or not you should visit. However, there is one thing I still want to say. If you come to Tokyo, I can assure you that experiencing the view from this tower at least once in your lifetime is priceless. Finally, I will conclude with a video of the Tembo Galleria elevator, which is rare these days and has not been part of any collaboration. This is the video that inspired me to create this video.
