JR西日本QR2dayパスの旅|1日目|うれしート|新幹線高速試験車|乗り放題|フリーきっぷ|鉄道旅行
“Misato’s Travel Log” begins. Hey guys! It’s Misato. This is Oji Station on the Yamatoji Line. Today, I’ll be using the JR West QR 2-Day Pass I purchased in the previous video . I’ll activate this pass. Once activated, it’s non-refundable. A QR code will appear, and activation will begin. My ticket is now ready to use. Please subscribe to my channel. I’ll go through the automatic ticket gate. It’s facing backwards (lol). Each station only has about one QR code-compatible automatic ticket gate, so it may take a little time (because there are only a few gates you can pass through). Each time I pass through a gate, a message appears indicating I’ve passed. Now, I ‘m taking the 7:41 AM train bound for Kyoto from Oji Station. By the way, I booked a reserved seat on the Ureshi Route. However, the Ureshi Route is only available from Nara Station. A train with a Kyoto sign arrived at Oji Station. The train was fairly crowded. The train departed from Oji Station. This train runs as a local train from JR Namba to Nara, then changes to a rapid train from Nara to Kyoto, taking 1 hour and 53 minutes to travel from Namba to Kyoto. A direct train from JR Namba to Kyoto sounds interesting. Even though it’s a local train to Nara, the Yamatoji Rapid also stops at every station from Oji to Nara, so it’s not much different. The (commonly known as) Chibi Maruko-chan chime announces, “Thank you for boarding!” and “Soon to be Nara, Nara.” The elevated track construction between Koriyama and Nara is underway, with the elevated track pillars already up and the construction of the new station clearly well underway. And so, at 7:56, the train stopped at Nara Station. While the train was stopped, the conductor installed a Ureshi Route noren curtain. The train type display changed to Rapid. This is my reserved seat ticket for this Ureshi Route. Normally, it’s forbidden to use this type of free pass in conjunction with discount tickets such as ticketless reserved seats , but the JR West QR 2-day pass can be used in conjunction with ticketless fare tickets. If you’re riding a limited express train, you can board by purchasing a separate limited express ticket. With the Seishun 18 Ticket, you also need to purchase a regular ticket, but with the JR West QR 2-day pass, you only need the limited express ticket. This is a very generous free pass , as it also allows ticketless reserved seats . The train stopped at Nara Station for 8 minutes. Almost all the passengers had changed. And so the train departed Nara Station at 8:04. (That “Chibi Maruko-chan” song plays again.) The announcement: “Thank you for using JR West today.” “This train is the rapid train bound for Kyoto.” (Entrance to the Nara Branch of the Suita General Rolling Stock Center) (Passing Narayama Station) The rapid train bound for Kyoto stops at Kizu , Tamamizu, Joyo, Shinden, JR Ogura, and Uji . Shinden and JR Ogura are stations that the Miyakoji Rapid Service doesn’t pass through. The rapid service only runs during morning and evening rush hours, and these stops are for commuters. Incidentally, as it was Saturday, there were no other passengers on the Ureshi Route until the final stop, Kyoto. (The train crosses the Uji River.) (Near Obaku Station, it aligns with the Keihan Uji Line.) The train then stops at Rokujizo and Tofukuji, where you can transfer to the Keihan Electric Railway. It crosses the Kamo River. Then the Ureshi Route noren curtain is removed. Arriving at its final stop, Kyoto Station. I get off the train . I transfer through the underground passage inside the east ticket gate near Tofukuji Station on platform 10. From Kyoto, I boarded the 8:56 AM train bound for Omi-Maiko. I get off at the next station, Yamashina. I get off at Yamashina because I’m going outside the JR West QR 2-Day Pass area. If I’m traveling outside the designated area, I might think I can just get on and pay on the train or when I get off. However, this QR code pass, like an ICOCA (IC card) , records my boarding and alighting each time I pass through the ticket gate. If I go outside the designated area, the ticket gate information will be incomplete, which could cause trouble later. It seems like it wouldn’t be a problem if I just bought a proper ticket and returned. However, this time, I’ll get off and board the train separately using my IC card. When using an IC card outside the designated area, I naturally need to get off at a station that borders the area. My departure information was written at Yamashina Station (to write the boarding station information onto the IC card) . (Towards the QR code) By the way, maybe it’s because my smartphone is old, but I’m having trouble getting the QR code to display (lol). I could just buy a new one, though (lol). Since I got off at Yamashina Station, I took a look around the area. There are stairs to Yamashina Subway Station right in front of the station. Keihan Yamashina Station is to the right and behind the stairs . It’s easy to find the transfer. So, I went back inside the ticket gate and used my IC card to board. I boarded the 9:18am train bound for Omi-Maiko, which had just arrived. It separated from the Biwako Line and ran on the Kosei Line. The Kosei Line is not covered by the QR code ticket gate area, so I boarded it separately from this QR 2-Day Pass. The first station I came to was Otsukyo Station, and here I changed because the next Limited Express train was leaving first. On the opposite platform, a freight train was waiting to clear the Thunderbird. I then boarded the Limited Express train. My next stop on the Limited Express was Hieizan-Sakamoto Station, my first stop on the Limited Express train. I got off at this station to visit the filming locations of the morning drama. Since it would take about 40 minutes to get off the bus and walk, I rented a Times Car. The filming location tour will take a long time, so I’ll provide more details on the annex channel. I visited the temple where the morning drama “Bakeke” was filmed. I quickly finished my visit and returned the car. I had a daily set lunch at a restaurant near Hiei-san Sakamoto Station. Today’s menu was sea bream cutlet, and it was delicious. After lunch, I headed to Yamashina. I returned to the QR 2-day pass area. I exited the ticket gate again at Yamashina and entered using my QR 2-day pass. My next destination was Maibara. However, the next train was bound for Yasu, and since it arrived there first, I took that train. After lunch, I was feeling sleepy and drowsy on the way from Yamashina to Yasu. Although I exited the ticket gate at Yasu, I didn’t have much time until the next train, so I quickly went back inside the ticket gate. I have a habit of tapping my ICOCA card, so I tend to tap the wrong side. My next train was the 2:09 PM departure from Yasu to Maibara. I ate a daifuku (rice cake) I bought at the 7-Eleven at Yasu Station. It was a Saturday afternoon local train on the Biwako Line. The train was long, so I was able to sit and relax. The sky was overcast, and it seemed like it might rain. In fact, at Hieizan Sakamoto, it rained so hard I needed an umbrella for a while. It took 34 minutes from Yasu to reach the final stop, Maibara. I exited the Maibara Station ticket gate and put my large luggage in a coin locker. I was then heading to the east exit of Maibara Station, where I found the Ohmi Railway ticket gate and bicycle rental counter. My destination, a little further from the station, was to visit a facility where retired Shinkansen high-speed test vehicles are preserved. This is outside the east exit of Maibara Station. This is what the station area looks like. Let’s head to the exhibit location. It’s a 7-minute walk from the station. It’s easy to get lost, as you just walk straight. As I walked, I could hear the sound of Shinkansen trains passing by. It was a busy journey, with people walking and catching my eye (lol). And here it was. I took a look from afar with a telephoto zoom. Ohmi Railway trains were also running nearby. We arrived at the site. Even though you can view the preserved trains, you have to do so from behind a fence. I think they only let you inside during events. This is what it looks like when you point your camera through the gap in the fence. This 300X was a test train for JR Central, and it recorded Japan’s fastest top speed of 443.0 km/h. This 952 series was a Shinkansen test train for JR East. It was called the STAR21. I photographed a STAR21 in operation at Takasaki Station at the time. If you’d like, please also see the video from that time. There’s a link in the description. And here is JR West’s WIN350 (500 Series 900 Series), a test train built to operate the Sanyo Shinkansen at 350 km/h. It was a test vehicle built before the 500 Series Shinkansen was built. Its coloring is somewhat similar to the 500 Series. The trains that laid the foundation for modern Shinkansen technology in the 1990s rest here, near Maibara Station. The Tokaido Shinkansen still runs nearby today. It was a nostalgic reunion. Satisfied, I left this place. This is the eastern end of the QR 2-day Pass’s free area. Let’s head back west. From Maibara, I boarded the 3:47 PM Shin-kaisoku train bound for Banshu-Ako. This train took 25 minutes to Yasu (where the test train was) . I arrived at Yasu Station. I got off here to sit in the Ureshito. (The Ureshi To noren curtain is being installed) Departing Yasu Station at 4:19 PM. This is the A-Rapid 311 bound for Aboshi. As you can see in the upper left, it takes 1 hour and 46 minutes to ride the Ureshi To to Sannomiya. This train is a rapid service, not a special rapid service, so it stops at every station until Takatsuki. If it were a special rapid service, the distance would take less than an hour and a half. I took the rapid service just to have a long ride on the Ureshi To (lol). For a while after boarding, I hardly saw any other passengers using the Ureshi To. When we arrived in Kyoto, as expected , there were quite a few passengers using the Ureshi To. There were a few passengers sitting down and moving to the front area, unaware that there was a fee . As we departed Kyoto, an announcement was made that the use of auxiliary seats would be suspended due to expected congestion due to the Naniwa Yodogawa Fireworks Festival . Even though it was autumn, there were apparently fireworks displays in other locations this day. Apparently, several locations held fireworks displays in the fall after the Expo ended this year. With resources concentrated on the Expo, security couldn’t be ensured, and many events were held after the Expo ended. (Suntory Yamazaki Distillery seen after passing Yamazaki Station) Sunset in Osaka that day was 5:20 PM. That time is approaching. For now, there are almost no passengers standing. Perhaps it’s because I’m in the last car, so it’s empty. The limited express trains on this section are always crowded, but if the rapid train is available, it might be an option. Incidentally, this rapid train travels between Kyoto and Osaka in 42 minutes. The limited express takes 29 minutes. That’s a 13-minute difference. Even the rapid train might be crowded if you’re traveling in the opposite direction, from Osaka to Kyoto. What I saw was the Eternal Mahoroba Limited Express, which began operation that day. It appears that after arriving at Osaka Station, it was being sent to the Kyoto Branch depot. The announcement was, “Thank you for using JR West today.” “Soon, we’ll be arriving at Osaka, Osaka .” At Osaka Station, the train suddenly filled with standing passengers. However, the Ureshi Route area is a paid area, so it’s not crowded at all. The 300 yen Ureshi Route fee really paid off. However, at the next stop, Amagasaki, the number of standing passengers dwindled to about half. The train was no longer too crowded, and the rapid train bound for Aboshi continued through Hyogo Prefecture as the sun set. Finally, at 6:05 PM, we arrived in Sannomiya. We disembarked. And so, my 1 hour and 46 minute Ureshi Route ride came to an end. It’s nice to be able to sit down and feel secure for just 300 yen. Well, as for this JR West QR 2-Day Pass trip, we’ve exited the Sannomiya Station ticket gate , so this concludes the first day of our journey. Please look forward to the next video, Day 2 of our journey. Thank you for watching until the end. Please subscribe to our channel. I would be happy if you could also rate it.
