【京都VLOG】紅葉直前!京都の喧騒を逃れる!静かな紅葉→穴場カフェ→コスパランチの完璧ルート

Feel the autumn in Kyoto before the leaves change color. JR Kyoto Station. This video is an early tour of autumn foliage spots. It’s currently October 30th, so the leaves are still a long way from turning red. I hope it will be helpful for the upcoming autumn foliage season. The weather is nice today, so it’s the perfect day for a stroll ( ¨̮ ). Let’s go! First, let’s fill our stomachs. There’s a stylish cafe nearby, so let’s go. The cafe is located in the Miyako Hotel Kyoto Hachijo. Even though I’ve been to this hotel many times, I didn’t know there was a cafe there. The shop is in the basement. OMOFU [Roastery Cafe]. This used to be a souvenir shop. They have a croissant breakfast. It’s really stylish. It seems you order at the counter. Oh! There’s a large roaster. On the menu. The coffee here is the highlight. They use organic coffee grown with natural fertilizer. They offer Americano, hand drip, espresso, stylish lattes, and Japanese tea. They had a variety of matcha options. They also had Basque cheesecake. You could choose your favorite coffee flavor and enjoy the aroma . The call buzzer was also stylish (¨̮). It had a “hideaway” atmosphere. The stylish and sophisticated design was wonderful. There was a perfect blend of Japanese modern and antique. It almost felt like I was in an art museum. The buzzer… Truffle Crumbled Egg Croissant 790 yen. A single hand-dripped croissant 800 yen. The croissants are baked in-house and are hand-dripped . I chose Ethiopian beans. It was fruity and had a pleasant flavor without any unpleasant aftertaste. The croissant was crispy and had a delicious buttery flavor. The egg had fresh cream in it and a light truffle aroma. The egg looked basic on the surface, but when I tasted it, it was an original flavor. It was unlike anything I’d ever tasted before. The name of the shop is “OMOFU.” It comes from “omofu,” an archaic word meaning “to think.” “OMOFU” means to think. It expresses deep feelings toward someone or something. It’s thought of with love. It felt like I was in a museum. The coffee was delicious. The cafe had a relaxed atmosphere. I’m heading to a spot to see the autumn leaves. Looking at Kyoto Station from this angle. It’s pretty large. There should be a ramen shop around here . I wonder if it’s open? If it is, I’d love to have ramen for breakfast. Autumn is the season for appetites. It’s closed. Shinpuku Saikan Main Branch. Shinpuku Saikan Main Branch was open! They have a small bowl of ramen. I’d like to try the fried rice, too, but that might be a bit of a stretch. It’s been years since I last came here. It’s been a really long time. Small ramen noodles, 750 yen. The aroma is wonderful. Shinpuku Saikan’s signature black soup is made with aged dark soy sauce . Delicious! It looks very rich and salty, but it’s surprisingly light, sweet, and gentle. It’s a small bowl, but the pork slices are huge (^^). And the noodles are medium-thick and straight. It’s been a while since I last had it, but the flavor remains the same. The soup clings to the noodles nicely. There are two slices of pork slices. So delicious! The spicy miso is great, but be careful not to add too much. Adding the spicy miso adds a tangy heat and rich flavor all at once. As expected, it’s delicious. I’ll come again. Next time, I’ll definitely go to a spot to see the autumn leaves. I’m heading to Yogen-in Temple. It’s a 22-minute walk from Kyoto Station. You can also get there by bus, but I’ll enjoy the scenery. Next to it is the Takase River. I’ve reached Sanjusangendo Temple. Once I get this far, I’m almost there. Yogen-in Temple. Bloody Ceiling! Such an ominous name. Yogen-in Temple was built to commemorate the 21st anniversary of the death of Sengoku warlord Azai Nagamasa. A cat? So cute. The temple’s name is taken from Nagamasa’s posthumous Buddhist name, Yogen-in Temple. This is a hidden gem for viewing autumn foliage. The stone-paved approach leading from the main gate to the main hall is covered in maple trees, creating a beautiful landscape like a tunnel of autumn leaves. It starts around here. The contrast between the autumn leaves on the approach and the white curtain of the main hall is stunning. The “Blood Ceiling” is a relocated floorboard from the hallway where Tokugawa Ieyasu’s loyal retainers, Torii Mototada, and others fought against Ishida Mitsunari’s forces during the Battle of Fushimi Castle and committed suicide. It’s said that the floorboards, stained with their blood, were used as a ceiling to “never be stepped on again.” Three-leaf hollyhock. Photography is prohibited from this point onward. Well, off we go. 600 yen. The admission fee may be different during the autumn foliage season. There’s also a masterpiece by Tawaraya Sotatsu (Important Cultural Property) here. This temple was well worth seeing. It must be beautiful when the leaves around here turn color. I’m still here! Perhaps he’s waiting for someone. Next, I’ll take the train. I’ll take the Keihan Railway to Jingu-Marutamachi Station. My next autumn foliage spot is Konkai-Komyoji Temple. My connection failed, so I lost quite a bit of time (><). It’s a 19-minute walk from the station to Konkai-Komyoji Temple. I’ll be walking quite a bit today. Almost there! That! A magnificent gate! Konkai-Komyoji Temple. Konkai-Komyoji Temple was the headquarters (base) of the Aizu clan, responsible for maintaining public order in Kyoto during the turbulent late Edo period. There’s a Kyoto Shugoshoku Honjin sign. This is said to be one of the “birthplaces of the Shinsengumi.” This place is quite spacious. The mountain gate is huge . It’s about 23 meters high. It’s open to the public for a special viewing. Legend has it that the famous Ishikawa Goemon exclaimed, “What a magnificent view, what a magnificent view!” I wonder if this is the autumn foliage zone. An arch of autumn leaves. This is the Miedo Hall. It houses a portrait of the sect’s founder, Honen Shonin, at the age of 75. This is apparently the pine tree on which Kumagai Naozane hung his armor. It is said that Kumagai Jiro Naozane washed his armor, hung it on this pine tree, and became a monk. The Shiun Garden is famous for its autumn leaves, which can be viewed during special viewings. This is what it looks like on the official website. It is said to be a beautiful garden structured like a picture scroll. Autumn leaves can also be seen on both sides of the stone steps. The leaves are starting to change color. It looks like a nice view from here. Taking photos with the Sanmon Gate in the background would be great. You can climb the Sanmon Gate during special viewing periods. The entrance fee is as follows. The vast grounds, the magnificent Sanmon Gate, and the beautiful harmony of the autumn leaves look great. It’s time to head for lunch. Our lunch spot is near Nanzenji Temple. The autumn leaves are beautiful! We’ve reached the Nanzenji area. Our next stop is “Dairikitei.” It’s an 18-minute walk from our previous stop. Dairikitei. Udon and other dishes cost around 1,500 yen. This area seems more geared toward tourists. I’ll have udon (^^). Suddenly, I’m struggling for lunch. I’m thinking about what to do. ^_^;. It’s before the leaves turn red, so I thought it would be empty. I was wrong… This is a famous spot for viewing the autumn leaves. M Stand Coffee. This is the popular cafe “M Stand” from Shanghai. The Kyoto branch is their first overseas branch. Upon investigation, I found a drink made with coconut water. I wonder what it tastes like? Apparently there’s a second floor. It’s a stylish cafe. They have some merchandise for sale, too. They even collaborated with a Japanese confectionery shop in Kyoto . They have a wide variety of cafe menu items. This time, I ordered coconut water. I headed to the second floor. It’s stylish. The space is stylish and modern, with a black and white theme. Matcha Cream Coconut Water (780 yen). Matcha cream on top, coconut water underneath. It’s an unusual combination. I wonder what it tastes like. It’s good! The unique freshness of coconut water combined with the deep flavor of matcha creates a unique and delicious taste. It’s just the right amount of sweet, making it easy to gulp down. For someone with a sweet tooth, it was the perfect combination (^^). When I was tired from walking, this refreshing drink was the perfect way to take a break. I was wondering where to go for lunch, but I decided to go to a restaurant I’d been to before and really enjoyed . I saw Mokko Bridge right in front of me. I decided to cross it. Kyotomi is a 13-minute walk from Lake Biwa Canal. Please note that last orders are taken at 2:00 PM. It’s been years since I last visited. This restaurant is run by Kyotomi, a renowned Kyoto kaiseki restaurant in Kodaiji. It’s a Japanese restaurant specializing in tempura bowls. The menu includes conger eel . They also serve dashimaki (rolled omelet ), a traditional Japanese restaurant dashi sashimi. And a drink. Shrimp and conger eel tempura bowl with dashimaki (1,980 yen). I had it set-style. They also serve tempura bowls. Shrimp and shishito peppers. Pumpkin, lotus root, eggplant. Conger eel . dashimaki . Rice . Miso soup. And pickles and dipping sauce. First, the dashimaki (rolled omelet). Rolled on a rolling mat. Topped with grated daikon radish. Drizzled with a little soy sauce. Wow, so delicious. It’s a completely different flavor. The egg is so smooth. I had tempura. The batter was thin and crispy. The thin batter made it light. The rolled omelet was absolutely amazing (^^). It had three pieces of conger eel. It was also fatty and incredibly delicious (^^). The way it was fried was excellent. The flavor of the ingredients made it incredibly delicious. The shrimp was also huge (^^). For dessert, I had strawberry sorbet, which was unusually topped with powdered sugar. They ‘re open for a short time, but it’s a restaurant worth visiting. I’m heading to Ichijoji now. It’s quite far, so I’ll take the train. I’ll transfer at Demachiyanagi. The Hiei Electric Railway is celebrating its 100th anniversary. Amazing! This is the tourist train “Hiei.” I’d like to go to Yase-Hieizanguchi Station someday . I’ve never been to Rurikoin Temple. Next, I’ll head to Shisen-do Temple. It’s a 14-minute walk from Shisen-do Temple. Apparently, it’s a mostly flat route. Wow! It seems to be related to Miyamoto Musashi. Let’s start by visiting Hachidai Shrine , which is right next to Shisen-do Hall. The Ichijoji Sagarimatsu Duel? After some research, I discovered it was one of the famous duels said to have taken place in Kyoto during the early Edo period, when Miyamoto Musashi fought it. Apparently, it was even made into a movie. This was my first time at this shrine, and it has a lovely atmosphere. Apparently, there’s a Sagarimatsu pine tree near the top of the stone steps. Perhaps the duel took place around here? There’s a bronze statue. There’s also an old tree from that time. This was also a two-sword style (^^). Ohtani. The chozuya ( water purification fountain ). It had a beautiful flower chozuya (water purification fountain). Now, let’s head to Shisen-do Hall. Shisen-do Hall is on the other side of the wall. This is the entrance to Shisen-do Hall. Shisen – do Hall is the site of a mountain villa built by Ishikawa Jozan, a man of letters in the early Edo period, for his retirement. It is now a Soto Zen temple (officially named Rokurokusan Jozan-ji). This temple was built to take advantage of the undulating mountain slope. Visiting hours were until 5:00 PM. It didn’t feel like a temple; it felt more like a mountain lodge. The admission fee was 700 yen. This is the “Shisen no Ma” room, where portraits of 36 Chinese poets from the Han, Jin, Tang, and Song dynasties hang. Looking out at the garden from the “Shisen no Ma” room, you can see the beautiful autumn leaves, like a painting. This area is full of maples, so it seems like a very beautiful view. From a seated vantage point, you can enjoy the scenery while listening to the sound of the lion drum. Let’s go to the garden. Towering above the entrance to the building is a three-story watchtower (monomi-yagura), a symbol of Shisen-do. The garden is below, but the difference in elevation between the garden and the building creates a unique view, allowing you to see the garden from the room. The autumn leaves around here are also likely to be beautiful. The sound of the “shikaodoshi” (deer scare) that sounds from time to time is lovely. Some of the leaves have turned red. Let’s go to the bottom. There ‘s moss growing around here. The contrast between the bright red autumn leaves and the fallen leaves is beautiful. There are maple trees around here. Let’s go further in. The “laid maples” look beautiful. There is said to be a Jizo statue somewhere. I wasn’t able to find one… When I pull back, I see a large maple tree. There’s also a pond with koi carp. And here’s a “deer scare.” It’s said to have been invented by Shisendo (Ishikawa Jozan) and was the first to be installed in a garden in Japan. Deer scare originally referred to agricultural tools used to scare away birds and animals. This bamboo device is called a “souzu.” This was my first time here, but it was definitely a recommended spot for viewing the autumn leaves. I’ll go to one more spot. My next stop is Enkoji Temple. It’s nearby, about a four-minute walk. Enkoji Temple was founded by Tokugawa Ieyasu with the desire to “create a place of learning like a school.” This area is also a great spot for viewing the autumn leaves. Let’s go. It costs 800 yen. During special viewing periods, it’s 1500 yen. Advance reservations are required. This place is famous for its “Benryutei Garden.” This is the “Benryutei Garden.” The theme of the work is “A dragon ascending to the heavens, racing through a sea of clouds.” It expresses the powerful energy that transforms stillness into movement. From here, it looks like a dragon. A great spot to see the autumn leaves! This is Jyugyushi Garden. The sliding screen paintings feature autumn leaves and cherry blossoms. This is a suikinkutsu (water harp). Each drop plays a clear melody. This area will be beautiful when it’s at its peak. You can enter from here, and enjoy the autumn leaves from there. It looks like the most beautiful autumn leaves can be enjoyed from here. The contrast with the green is stunning. I actually sat down. Apparently, there’s a smiling Jizo somewhere. I came here. There are many trees with autumn leaves. The entire garden will be covered in autumn leaves. This is another highly recommended spot for viewing the autumn leaves. This area is likely to be crowded during the autumn foliage season, but reservations are required . It looks like you can enjoy the view at your leisure . Heading back to Demachiyanagi. Along the way, I found the Ichijoji Sagarimatsu again. Is this the site of the duel? Since I’ve come all the way to Demachiyanagi, I’ll head to Demachi Futaba. I wonder if they’re sold out? There’s a long line again today. It’s chestnut season (¨̮). They’re open until 5:30 PM. The selection was limited. Sold out. I looked it up and found out they even hand out numbered tickets for the Mont Blanc. I want to buy the Tamba chestnut one. This one’s guaranteed to be delicious. Apparently it contains Tamba chestnuts. They all look delicious! Sold out? The Tamba white soybean mochi was sold out… Sold out too. These were the only three left. I’ll have to come in the morning… Chestnut mochi 350 yen x 2. Bean mochi 240 yen x 2. It was delicious, as expected (^^). It’s about time to head home. This time, I visited autumn foliage spots I’d never been to before. It was amazing, I just didn’t know about it. I hope this video will be helpful for your autumn foliage tour. Thank you for watching. See you again in the next video!
