秋の京都巡り 清水坂から二寧坂(二年坂)
This time, we’ll be walking down Kiyomizuzaka from Kiyomizu-dera Temple and along Ninenzaka and Sannenzaka (Sannenzaka) slopes. This is one of the approaches to the World Heritage site, Kiyomizu-dera Temple. As it leads from the Gion and Yasaka areas to Kiyomizu-dera Temple, it’s a popular spot for tourists, with souvenir shops and traditional Japanese restaurants lining the road. The cobblestone streets are home to buildings connected to Kiyomizu-dera Temple, such as Yasaka Pagoda and Kodai-ji Temple, as well as traditional Kyoto townhouses . Designated a nationally designated Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings, they offer a truly Kyoto-esque landscape. For a break and lunch, we stopped off at Otowa Saryo, located halfway along the approach to Kiyomizu-dera Temple. Otowa Saryo is run by Kyokiyomizu-yaki maker Asahido, and is a relaxing teahouse with a villa-like atmosphere , featuring meticulous attention to detail, from the food to the tableware and space . Upon stepping inside, the entrance exudes the calm and luxurious atmosphere of a traditional Japanese restaurant. The waiting room, with its purple carpet and tasteful Japanese-style chairs, exudes a truly elegant atmosphere. Even just entering the waiting room, I felt a sense of excitement. The restaurant also has a deck with a panoramic view of Kyoto, where you can relax in the chairs. I ordered the soba set for 1,350 yen. I savored the exquisite, fragrant Kyoto soba. Halfway up Kiyomizuzaka, we turn north onto Sannenzaka and Sannenzaka. Sannenzaka is believed to have been named after the road that led to the Koyasu Pagoda of Taisanji Temple, which stood here before the Koyasu Kannon Bodhisattva was erected at Kiyomizu-dera . It’s also said that Toyotomi Hideyoshi’s wife, Kita no Mandokoro (Nene), who lived at Kodaiji Temple along Sannenzaka, would climb this slope to pray for the birth of her child and then visit Kiyomizu-dera. Yasaka Pagoda is located halfway between Yasaka Shrine and Kiyomizu-dera Temple, and its official name is Hokan-ji Temple. Yasaka Pagoda (a five-story pagoda) is the third tallest after the five-story pagodas of Toji Temple (Kyoogokoku-ji Temple) and Kofuku-ji Temple, and visitors can climb up to the second floor of the pagoda. Ninenzaka is a stone-stepped slope said to have been built in 807, stretching from Kiyomizu to Maruyama Park. The scenery of rows of old houses with lattice doors along the cobblestone slope is like a miniature version of Kyoto. There are also many small shops, including traditional souvenir shops, which will evoke a sense of travel. Thank you for watching until the end.
