傳說中的,緬北電詐大樓!亲身极限抵近拍摄,背槍巡邏的緬北武裝人員,近在眼前!
This is the legendary Myanmar telecom fraud building ; here, the fearsome Myanmar soldiers patrol with guns. Today, I’ve come to a Yunnan city surrounded on three sides by Myanmar, allowing me to observe this battle against telecom fraud up close at the border. The Ruili General Buddhist Temple , a chaotic place associated with crimes and jadeite , is located on the hillside on the north bank of the Ruili River, facing northern Myanmar across the river. At its narrowest point, the Ruili River is only 200 meters wide, practically within arm’s reach. It’s a few kilometers from downtown Ruili to the temple. Although Ruili isn’t tropical , its vegetation and natural landscape have distinct tropical characteristics, often giving me the illusion of being in the Indochina Peninsula. Founded in the mid-7th century by two Theravada Buddhist monks from Myanmar, it is the highest-ranking Buddhist temple in Ruili. Continuing uphill along the road next to the temple , you’ll see this light blue building on your right . The Rongjiang International Hotel, with its name written in Chinese in the middle , is rumored online to have been a former telecom fraud zone, but it seems to have stopped operating there. There were hardly any people around the building; I zoomed in on my phone to its maximum and only spotted a few security guards at the main entrance. Northern Myanmar is a brutal world steeped in violence . The driver who brought me here told me that in such chaotic places as northern Myanmar, it’s not actually that dangerous for the truly poor ; the real danger lies with those involved in high-stakes games of chance , whether through legitimate or illegitimate means . The intensity of many competitions cannot be restrained by law or morality , and the end result is often physical destruction for one side. Now, across the river from me is Muse District in Myanmar. Many netizens mistakenly believe that Muse is the name of a female gang leader in Myanmar. In fact, Muse means ” bustling town” in the Dai language. We simply use the similar-sounding Chinese characters “木姐 ” to refer to it. Muse is Myanmar’s largest border trade port; 70-80% of Myanmar’s border trade takes place in Muse. Within Myanmar, Muse is considered a relatively wealthy region. The total population of Muse Township is close to 500,000, which would be considered a large county in China. Standing at this vantage point, looking from left to right , the area with many tall buildings on the left is Ruili in Yunnan, China. Gradually moving to the right, the tall buildings disappear, replaced by densely packed low-rise buildings – this is Muse in northern Myanmar. The golden pagodas and huge golden Buddha statues at the top showcase the faith of this land. Unfortunately, even gods and Buddhas can never conquer human nature; without civilized order, even gods and Buddhas are powerless. Continuing along this road, you can reach the Dai King. The Ruili Dai Royal Palace is currently in a state of disrepair. According to online reports, the investor of the palace was involved in a case and fled to Cambodia, after which the project came to an abrupt halt. Other reports suggest that the pandemic delayed construction, coupled with insufficient funding, leading to the project’s suspension. From the site, while some buildings are already taking shape, such as the golden stone pillars supporting the golden pagoda in the outer corridor of the main hall , and the exterior is resplendent, the interiors are empty, and the exquisite murals are only outlines. Many buildings remain unfinished. The investor behind the Dai Royal Palace is Jingpo entrepreneur Dong Lecheng, founder and president of Jingcheng Group, once known as “the first generation of Jingpo businessmen.” Born in 1969, Dong Lecheng dropped out of school early due to family financial difficulties to start his own business . In 2019, he ranked 816th on the Hurun Rich List with a fortune of 5.1 billion yuan. His business empire covers aviation, tourism, real estate, and other fields , and he gained widespread attention for founding Ruili Airlines. In October 2014, Dong Lecheng was investigated for suspected bribery. In 2023… Jingcheng Group filed for bankruptcy liquidation , but its owner remains active in investing in businesses in multiple locations. Next to the Dai King’s Palace, there’s a cold drink shop selling various ice creams , Lao iced coffee, and Pao Lu Da, a drink originating from Thailand and Myanmar. The owner looks quite like a Dai person. Perhaps due to the recent popularity of the Scottish Super League , a small sign above the shop wishes the league continued success. The Changzhou team’s performance has been terrible, going from being relegated to a lowly state, then to a lowly state, then to a lowly state, and finally, it seems even their last remaining “1” will be wiped out, leaving them with a “0” state. A man drinking coffee noticed me staring at the Scottish Super League sign and asked if I was also from Jiangsu. I replied that I was from the authentic Jingzhou, and we both burst into laughter. It seems the proprietress’s strategy of using the Scottish Super League to attract customers is indeed effective. In many places along the China-Myanmar border, the Ruili River is the boundary river. We can see that our side has erected high barbed wire fences and dense surveillance cameras along the riverbank. There were surveillance devices , but the opposite side was completely undefended. As I was about to leave, I took one last stroll around the Zongfo Temple by the river. The giant iron Buddha statue there was very well-designed, perched atop a mountain peak , with a smaller golden Buddha statue stacked beneath it. As the sun set, the Buddha’s palms seemed to hold up the setting sun. It was truly a beautiful and Zen-like spot for taking photos. Ruili City is located in Dehong Prefecture, where the Dai population is 360,000, accounting for 27% of the total population. The Dai and Thai peoples belong to the same ethnic group, the Dai-Thai, which originated from the Baiyue people of southwestern China in ancient times. The total global population of the Dai-Thai is about 66 million, making it a very large ethnic group. Next, I arrived at the Jiegao Port in Ruili. In front of the magnificent national gate, a dog was sitting on the road markings. This scene attracted many tourists to take photos. The national gate of the Ruili Jiegao Port has a strong Dai architectural style. Next to it, a man was loudly soliciting customers, saying that the view from the first floor was even more beautiful than the view from the village, and it cost 15 yuan per person. I thought to myself, what kind of wild tourist spot is this ? I’ve never heard of it before . So I decided to go check it out. My brother sent one of his female assistants to take me to the first floor to see the two countries. We hadn’t gone far when the assistant led me into an unfinished building. There was a layer of red paper scraps left over from firecrackers on the ground. At the stairwell, the assistant handed me over to the cashier behind the small counter. I paid 15 yuan via WeChat. The cashier told me to go directly to the rooftop with no time limit , and there was even a free tea area up there. I was touched. Sure enough, small workshops go all out, and the service was surprisingly good . Then I started to go upstairs. The walls were purple, the handrails were purple, and the stairs were painted with a very glossy finish. The bright red color of the pork liver , combined with the lingering smell of paint, left me, who rarely exercises, breathless by the time I reached the rooftop. Upon arriving, I found that the seller was indeed honest and the goods matched the description. Sure enough, there was a free tea area, albeit a rather basic one. Reaching the observation deck, I discovered that their advertisement truly lived up to its promise . The rooftop of this building is indeed a great place to see both countries . In front, you can see the entire Muse Township in northern Myanmar, and to the side, you can see our magnificent national gate and square. First, let’s have a panoramic comparison. This is our side— the tall and imposing national gate. The wide square in front of the border gate is lined with bustling commercial buildings, attracting a constant stream of tourists—a scene of modern prosperity. Moving the camera to the left, you can see the Myanmar border gate, noticeably shorter than ours. The two have similar architectural styles, both featuring red roofs and golden eaves, exhibiting a distinct Southeast Asian influence. Beyond the Myanmar border gate lies Muse County, its streets narrow , houses scattered, and its urban planning clearly inferior to ours. On this commercial street outside the Myanmar border, many signs are in Chinese, including some familiar brands , even China Mobile, though I suspect it’s a knock-off. This “Old Chengdu Noodles” restaurant— I do n’t know if it’s under renovation or closing down— is a bit unsettling. I took out my phone and used a telephoto lens to observe Muse across the border. The first thing I noticed was Myanmar soldiers carrying rifles without caps, their posture casual . In such a loosely governed place, many rules and unspoken conventions are incomprehensible to us. In 1988, the Myanmar government declared Muse a fully open border city, making it one of the earliest regions in Myanmar to engage in border trade. In 2004, Myanmar established the “Muse Special Economic and Trade Zone” in Muse City , directly managed by the Border Trade Department of the Ministry of Commerce of the Union, further promoting Muse’s economic development. Muse is adjacent to Ruili City in Dehong Prefecture, Yunnan Province, China, serving as a transit point for Chinese consumer goods and building materials entering Myanmar, and also an important channel for Myanmar to export agricultural products , fruits, fish, seafood, and other commodities to China. Six years ago, the situation in Muse was relatively stable. I once participated in a day trip to Muse, visiting several attractions and even having lunch there . However, with the escalation of the conflict in northern Myanmar, such day trips to Muse have long since ceased. This 15-yuan tour, offering a view of both countries, claims to have no time limit , but in reality, most people don’t even stay for 10 minutes. It’s like many restaurants offering unlimited refills of noodles, but you can’t even finish two bowls. It’s also a bit like when you confess your feelings to a girl and she says she’ll be your best friend forever; she can infinitely satisfy your less-than-core needs, but never lets you touch your core needs. Ruili, the gateway to the Great Power, is still a place of extremes . Not far from the end of National Highway 320, there’s a small border gate. It seems like vehicles from both sides pass through here, making it even busier than the main border crossing. Many Burmese trucks, fully loaded with Chinese goods, are waiting to pass through. Many Burmese people are also riding tricycles or even electric bikes, loaded to the brim , making a living by hauling goods for others. Near the border gate, a large border trade market has formed , mainly for wholesale goods from Myanmar. There’s also a smaller market selling Burmese goods and goods from other Southeast Asian countries. I took a quick look around and found that most of the Southeast Asian goods looked rather simple ; after all, the region’s industrial level is relatively low. These products didn’t hold much appeal for me. This high border wall separates two countries and two different life circumstances. But what they have in common is that people on both sides are busy and restless. Life is an activity that can’t stop. Sometimes, I think life is like going in circles, essentially meaningless. Then I think again, life does have some meaning, but not much. The world’s most expensive street market, a jade ” ghost market” on the China-Myanmar border, operates in complete darkness. A single cut could bankrupt you. This is the legendary world’s most expensive street market, where a single transaction could reach tens of millions of yuan. In Ruili, a city on the China-Myanmar border, there is such a ghost market that only opens at night . The most amazing thing is that without the lights on, the densely packed crowds… In the dim light, everyone carries a flashlight specifically for gacha jade. The thrilling world of jade gambling can be summed up in one sentence: one cut makes you poor , one cut makes you rich , one cut leaves you in rags. Some people lose everything in one go, while others make a fortune. Tonight, I personally visited the famous Delong Jade Market and even spent a huge sum of 120,000 Burmese Kyat to buy a jade bracelet . (Note: The currency is Burmese Kyat.) The Delong Jade Market has unique operating hours: from 7 pm to midnight. The entire Delong Jewelry City has more than 2,000 stalls, among which trading halls 1-6 are for raw jade stones. The so-called raw jade stone trading is… The so-called “Rough Stone Trading Hall No. 7” is actually a finished product trading hall , selling finished jadeite bracelets, jadeite pendants, etc. Unlike the brightly lit night markets, the rough stone trading area is completely dark. Vendors typically don’t provide lighting; they only have a flashlight specifically for illuminating the jade. Customers mostly bring their own flashlights as well. Buyers rely solely on the appearance and skin of the rough stone , using a strong flashlight to observe the internal condition, determine its origin, texture, and type, and then determine the price for the transaction. This uncertainty makes rough stone trading exciting and risky. The variety of rough stones here is rich, including those from Myanmar… Jade from various mines in the region, such as Moshisha and Hpakant, ranges in price from inexpensive rough stones costing tens of yuan per piece to high-quality rough stones worth millions or tens of millions of yuan . Besides traditional face-to-face negotiations, with the development of the live-streaming industry, many merchants in the “ghost market” also sell through live streams . Live streamers showcase jade in front of the camera, interact with fans, and negotiate prices, selling the jade nationwide. These rough stones are divided into “open goods” and “hidden goods.” ” Open goods” are rough stones where the jade is partially exposed, revealing a certain quality. “Hidden goods” are rough stones where the jade is completely encased, making it impossible to directly observe the internal condition. For hidden goods, a window can be opened, which can be further divided into semi-gambled stones , fully gambled stones , and semi-open/semi-hidden stones. Semi-gambled stones have a small window opened, allowing some observation of the internal condition. Fully gambled stones have no window and carry the highest risk. Semi-open/semi-hidden stones fall somewhere in between. Even experienced experts find it difficult to accurately judge the jade’s color, cracks, and other characteristics inside the rough stone. The outcome of gambling on rough stones is often highly uncertain. Even with a window opened, the opened part might be the best quality part of the stone, while the rest is considered waste. Once you buy it at a high price and cut it open, you ‘ll basically lose everything. There’s also the risk of counterfeiting. Some unscrupulous merchants tamper with the raw stones, such as creating fake skin, injecting green pigment, and pasting high-quality jadeite slices at the openings, making it difficult for consumers to distinguish. The raw stone trading area is crowded, but not everyone is a legitimate buyer. Many are there to practice, and many are just tourists like us , simply joining in the fun. It’s the rainy season in Ruili now, and a sudden downpour with huge rainfall is making the market’s roof rattle loudly. I then went to browse the finished product area next door. The main mineral chemical composition of jadeite is sodium aluminum silicate. The formation of jadeite requires a high-pressure , low-temperature, and sodium-rich geological environment. Myanmar’s main jadeite producing area is located in the collision zone of the Indian Ocean Plate and the Eurasian Plate, mainly in Kachin State in northern Myanmar. Myanmar is the source of almost all commercially grade jadeite in the world. The main production area is located in the basin of three tributaries of the Uyu River in the northwest of Mong Kung, northern Myanmar. Other producing areas include Guatemala , the United States, and Japan, but the quality and quantity of jadeite from these regions are significantly lower than that of Myanmar jadeite. Jadeite was introduced to China as early as the Ming and Qing dynasties, and was highly valued by the imperial court and nobility , becoming an important part of Chinese jade culture. In Chinese culture, jadeite symbolizes auspiciousness, beauty, and happiness. There is a saying that “nurturing jade for three years nurtures a person for a lifetime,” and it is considered a spiritual treasure. Jadeite, from most expensive to least expensive, is mainly divided into several types: glass-type jadeite. Bracelets made from this type of jadeite typically cost over 1 million yuan and are considered top-grade jadeite. Its transparency is extremely high, its texture is delicate and almost free of impurities, and its surface has a cold, sharp luster. If the color is good, such as reaching imperial green, the price is even higher . Icy jadeite has a transparency that is slightly inferior to glassy jadeite , but it is still very clear . Its texture is as clear and transparent as ice, and its quality is excellent. The price of icy jadeite bracelets is generally around 100,000 to 500,000 yuan. Among them, high-quality icy jadeite bracelets are more expensive, usually between 500,000 and 1,000,000 yuan, slightly lower than glassy jadeite. It contains cotton- like inclusions , has a strong glassy luster, and is fluorescent. Glutinous jadeite has a texture similar to glutinous rice soup, with a strong hazy feeling. The price of low-end glutinous jadeite bracelets is around a few thousand yuan. The crystal grains are relatively coarse and the texture is relatively cloudy . Fine glutinous jadeite bracelets are generally priced around 3,000 to 5,000 yuan, with a relatively delicate and smooth texture . The price of jadeite bracelets of the “chemical” type is generally between 1,000 and 20,000 yuan. Jadeite bracelets of the ” bean” type are relatively cheaper, with ordinary bean-type jadeite bracelets priced between 500 and 3,000 yuan. However, these bracelets often have large, noticeably coarse crystals, poor texture, and low transparency. Talk is cheap, so I decided to buy a jadeite bracelet. Based on online guides I’ve learned, I chose this Grade A jadeite bracelet with a certificate of authenticity, costing 120,000 yuan. (Note: the currency has been converted to Myanmar Kyat to make it sound more impressive , achieving my goal of creating a sensational headline.) In reality, it ‘s about 400 yuan . Grade A jadeite is not the same as high-quality imitations in other industries. Grade A jadeite refers to jadeite that has not been authenticated by any person… Chemically treated natural jadeite only undergoes physical processing such as cutting, grinding, carving, and polishing to change its shape, while retaining its original mineral composition, structure, and color. A formal appraisal report will indicate “Grade A jadeite, ” signifying its authenticity. Based on my judgment, the 400 yuan jadeite bracelet I bought is made of bean-type jadeite, but with a slight hint of glutinous jadeite . Its biggest flaw is two cracks. Without these cracks, this bracelet could probably sell for 800 to 1000 yuan. As a novice, I wouldn’t buy jadeite products worth tens of thousands of yuan right away ; the industry is too complex. There are imitations of South African jade and Malaysian jade, as well as fakes of Grade B, Grade C, and Grade B+C jadeite. Grade B jadeite is treated with strong acid and then filled with glue; Grade C jadeite is artificially dyed. Jadeite of grade B+C is treated with dyes during the bleaching and resin-injection process. The booming Delong Jade Market has also spurred the prosperity of surrounding industries. Several shops specialize in small flashlights for observing the color of jadeite, and a food street has formed outside, offering almost every kind of cuisine from all over China. Before leaving Delong Jade Market, I bought a watermelon at a fruit stand. The next morning, I braved the heavy rain to visit the Jingpo Ethnic Museum in Ruili City. However, this visit was very disappointing. The vast site contained many newly built Jingpo buildings and a huge central square, but it was completely empty; it seems to have closed down. The Jingpo population in China is 160,000. The origins of the Jingpo people are related to the ancient Di-Qiang people of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, initially known as “Xun Chuan Man”. The “Gaoligong people” appear in Chinese historical records. The Jingpo people, though numbering only 160,000 in China, are a large ethnic group in Myanmar with over a million people, though they are known as the Kachin in Myanmar. The Kachin Independence Army is one of the strongest ethnic armed groups in Myanmar. Although this trip was ultimately in vain , when I arrived at Nongmo Lake Park in the evening, the dreamlike scenery left me speechless. This was the most beautiful scene I had encountered during my ten years of travel. The name Yunnan, including the character for “cloud,” is very fitting. Those who have traveled to Yunnan will know that clouds are very common and very low-lying; often, clouds float or swirl around the mountaintops , slopes, and foothills. Today, at Nongmo Lake, there aren’t any particularly high mountains, and… It’s incredibly rare to see ethereal mist forming in a city center , a sight rarely seen elsewhere in the country. This mirage-like beauty is perhaps the most romantic reward for travelers. Beside Nongmo Lake lies a bustling market , with numerous stalls lining the lakeside and roadsides , forming a complete night market. Strolling through this vibrant night market on a breezy, refreshing evening by the beautiful and elegant Nongmo Lake makes the beauty of life tangible, and the wonder of travel akin to a bottle of wine stored in the cellar of memory. This is the most breathtaking place I’ve visited in my 10 years of travel . Everyone says it’s the largest night market in Asia, but I suspect it’s the largest and most beautiful night market in the world. This is the Starlight Night Market in Xishuangbanna, Yunnan. When I entered and turned around, the scene before me left me speechless. A tall tower in the Dai ethnic style, a vast area densely packed with stalls , a huge number of tourists shoulder to shoulder, specially designed lighting that made it dazzling, and even a giant floating balloon in the distance, transforming it into a dreamlike place. The Starlight Night Market is located in Yunnan… Located in Gaozhuang Xishuang Scenic Area, Jinghong City, Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture, adjacent to the Lancang River, the area covers a total area of 530,000 square meters, with an effective tourist area of 90,000 square meters. It boasts nearly 3,000 light-business stalls and 300 pedestrian street shops. Opening hours are typically from 5:00 PM to 11:30 PM, with some activities extending into the night. The area offers a rich culinary scene , a veritable hub of Southeast Asian cuisine. Dishes include spicy and sour pounded chicken feet, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside lemongrass grilled fish, and sweet and soft pineapple rice, among other Dai specialties. There are also Thai snacks, Vietnamese snacks, and more, all at affordable prices. It’s also a shopping paradise, featuring ethnic handicrafts . The market boasts a dazzling array of handcrafted items, including lamps and fans made using Dai ethnic paper-making techniques, picture frames and ornaments carved from Bodhi leaves, scarves and backpacks crafted from Dai brocade, as well as ethnic costumes , silver jewelry, and handmade wood carvings. The cultural activities at the Starlight Night Market are incredibly vibrant, featuring over 10 performance locations with daily nighttime performances, stage shows , bonfire parties, and more. Annually, it also hosts nearly 30 unique folk events, including a float parade , a water lantern festival, and a lemon music festival . The night view is mesmerizing, with the Shwedagon Pagoda at its center, where lights intertwine with oil-paper umbrellas and Thai lanterns to create a “river of stars,” offering a breathtaking panoramic view . The vibrant sea of umbrellas and the brightly lit stalls created a striking visual impact. My final recommendation is that everyone should visit the Starlight Night Market at least once. Not long after, a heavy rain started, forcing us to return to the hotel. The next evening at 7 pm, we returned to the Starlight Night Market .
