【四國遍路 香川縣 ep.23】|直島單車遊|草間彌生|紅南瓜|地中美術館|瀨戶內海|
=] Alright, today is the final day of the journey. We won’t be continuing the pilgrimage today. We’re heading to Takamatsu Port to catch a high-speed ferry to Naoshima. Really excited to see the Chichu Art Museum. We’ll be cycling around the island this time. Because the island is quite small. The fast ferry departs at 9:20 AM. We need to get to the port first to buy tickets. Just returned the bike— right in front of Takamatsu Station. Then rushed over to Takamatsu Port. That sign just now said high-speed ferry departs from Pier 3. 11 minutes left. Wow, just a tiny bit later and we would’ve missed it. We need to go this way. Got the tickets. Saw some tourists with suitcases. Even though we arrived before departure, the fast ferry tickets were already sold out. Now it’s either change plans and skip Naoshima, or stick with the plan. If we go, we’ll have to take the slow ferry. The slow ferry leaves at 10:15 AM. Just refunded the 11 AM Chichu Museum ticket. We wouldn’t make it in time. After arriving in Naoshima, we still need to rent bikes. Then ride to the museum. No point overthinking—let’s just go. Once we’re there we can recheck things. Maybe we can book new tickets at the museum for today. To go to Naoshima, we need to get tickets from counter C. That’s the designated place. Just bought the ticket at counter C inside the waiting area. When I returned the bike earlier— I forgot to bring back this item. This phone holder for the bike is super important. Once we get to Naoshima— I’ll need it for cycling around. The staff member just told us— to return to counter C by 10:00— that’s where we wait— and then we can board the ferry. The high-speed ferry’s latest morning ride— is 9:20 AM. Then the next one isn’t until 8:00 PM. So round trips now— can only be done with the slow ferry. Now lining up to board. The middle deck has air conditioning. Taking a short break. There’s a swing here. We’re heading to Naoshima Tourist Center—looking for any brochures. Ice cream and drinks. Didn’t plan it in advance, but I actually want to visit Teshima. It’s less developed—so the scenery should be even more stunning. First, we’ll rent bikes. There are three shops here—just pick one. Just rented a bike. Same model I’ve been riding for the past few days. It’s still early—let’s explore one of the villages. I’m not wearing cycling shorts today, but it should be fine. I doubt we’ll ride more than 40–50 km today. Just passed Naoshima Bathhouse. Some people still choose buses or walking. Those two tourists rode the ferry with us earlier. First stop: the Chichu Exhibition Hall. This is what the outside of the Chichu Exhibition looks like. Let’s go down and take a look right away. Just left Yokobo Park. According to the map, there’s a Kokubun-ji temple up ahead. Careful on this stretch—cars coming the opposite way. This mountain road is pretty tame—compared to the one up to Yashima Temple yesterday. At least I don’t have to switch to low gear. We’ve arrived. Turns out Chichu Museum is really close. But since it’s not time for our reservation yet, we have nowhere to go for now. Might as well ride around and explore. Not sure how to get down another level. Looks like that road is the only one here. Pretty much just looped around. That path led us to the Chichu Garden. Basically it’s a road with flowers lining both sides. We’re at the parking lot now. Parking the bike here. This isn’t the museum—just the waiting area before entry. Still 45 minutes until we can enter. Let’s figure out what to do. Bought a bottle of olive soda—let’s see if it’s good. Surprisingly tasty. Just finished visiting the Chichu Art Museum. No photography or video allowed inside. But some people were still taking photos constantly. There’s an installation inside (James Turrell’s work). Because the queue was too long— They only let one person in at a time— It was going way too slowly. So I didn’t go in. The café was packed too— So crowded, not a single seat. I decided not to eat there—will look for food elsewhere later. I think this museum— was quite worth visiting—about half an hour in total. Once inside, it kind of felt— like stepping into a backrooms scenario. There was no one else inside. Absolutely worth seeing—but be sure to book in advance. About five minutes before entry, they notify you— just scan the QR code and you’re in. Now retrieving the bike—next stop should be Lee Ufan Museum— or maybe the seaside. Just got the bike again—heading to the next spot. Right before entering the museum— I clipped the camera to my backpack. Accidentally dropped it on the ground. Thankfully the lens wasn’t scratched. Just a bit of scuffing on the plastic part of the body. A tiny scratch, that’s it. There’s a car behind us—let’s let them pass first. At this fork—go right. Staff said no bikes allowed further down. They told us to park up above first. Right here—don’t let the sun hit the bike seat directly.
