【タイ・バンコク🇹🇭】エメラルドの仏塔と世界最大の黄金仏!ワットパクナムが想像以上に美しい幻想的な空間だった
Today, Nampla is visiting Wat Paknam in Bangkok, Thailand. This is a prestigious royal temple with a history of over 400 years. Its biggest highlight is the mystical emerald pagoda. And the beautiful ceiling painting that looks like the universe. There is also a giant Buddha statue, one of the largest in the world, which was just completed in 2021. It has become one of Bangkok’s most talked-about spots. What kind of place is it? Let’s go and find out with Nampla. Hello. This is Nampla. Today, we are at MRT (subway) Bang Phai station. We are heading to a beautiful temple called Wat Paknam. It’s a place we’ve visited before. Today we’re coming from a different station than last time, so we should see some different scenery. I’m excited. Let’s walk there. Let’s go. First, we’ll leave from Exit 1 of Bang Phai station. It looks like you can take a motorbike taxi from Bang Phai station to Wat Paknam. We’ve decided to walk. It looks like there will be a lot of tourists. Yeah. The place we’re going to now has an incredibly beautiful ceiling painting and is a popular spot often featured in guidebooks. Wow. Is this a temple, too? You’re right. This is gorgeous, too. It looks like a traditional building. It’s cool. It’s made of wood. Is this a school? It’s so colorful. We’ve walked from the station to here. It took about 7 minutes, I think. Yeah. It wasn’t that far. There’s a bridge here, and we can get to Wat Paknam from here. Uh-huh. I heard you can also take a boat. There are a lot of boats docked around here. Apparently, you can get a great picture of the Giant Buddha from the boat. The price is said to be 200 baht. It seems to be a tourist boat. Right. If you have time, taking a boat might be a good idea. I agree. Well, let’s go. Let’s go. These are pretty steep stairs. It must be steep for people pushing bikes or motorbikes up. This is the first time we’ve come from this direction. It is. We’ve filmed a video here before, but we came from the opposite side. That time, we used the BTS to get here. This time, we’re taking the MRT. This way is easier to get here. This way is easier and maybe more interesting. It feels like we’re entering from the temple’s main gate this way. I think so. From the BTS, it felt like we were entering from the back of the temple. This way is more straightforward. We’re here. This is the entrance. This seems to be the stop for songthaews and taxis. The entrance. It’s crowded with people and very lively. It’s been a while. Yeah. Let’s go look inside the temple. Yeah. We’ll buy some flower offerings here. Okay. These are the flowers for offering. Also, it seems there is gold leaf inside this paper. We will put the gold leaf on the Buddha statue. It’s gold leaf for the Buddha statue, right? You put it on the statue’s face and such? That’s right. It seems we’re supposed to put the gold leaf on here. It’s so golden. It looks like we put the gold leaf here. Yes. I’ll apply the gold leaf we just received. It’s inside the paper. Did you get it on? Yeah. I’ll put some on the elephant statue, too. It’s on. First, let’s go pay our respects in the main hall. Okay. This main hall is a historic building dating back to the Ayutthaya period in the 17th century. It features traditional Thai architecture and is a place of worship for local people. The walls are adorned with beautiful murals depicting the life of the Buddha and Buddhist teachings. It creates a solemn atmosphere. Wow, it’s so big. Hmm. They’re doing construction. It’s not finished yet. This giant golden Buddha statue was just completed in 2021. It’s 69 meters tall. It’s said to be one of the tallest Buddha statues in this pose in the world. The design of the base is beautiful, too. It’s designed with turtles and fish. The decorations are beautiful. It’s written “Wat Paknam Phasicharoen.” Bangkok City. Amazing. They’ve written it in Katakana for us. The building is amazing. The roof is beautiful. It’s beautiful. Look at this. The fruit of the cannonball tree is growing. It’s so cute. There are a lot of carp in this pond. Is this the Thai idol “Mu-Daeng-chan”? There’s a nice cafe inside the temple grounds, too. Nice. It’s a river view. There are monks inside the cafe. The monks are taking a break. You can go upstairs in the cafe, so let’s go. Yeah. Let’s go. Wow, amazing. It’s a Buddha view. Look from here. You can see it so well. Now we’re going to see the emerald pagoda. You can go inside the pagoda-shaped building. Can you see it? It’s coming into view. Wow. It looks so big, seeing it after a while. It’s huge. It’s huge! It’s a pagoda that’s like an office building. How many floors high is it? Amazing. Let’s go inside the building. Okay, let’s go. We didn’t go in last time, but there’s an exhibition room on this first floor. This is our first time seeing this. It is. Let’s go. The first floor is amazing, too! There’s a lot of beautiful furniture on display. Besides the ceiling painting, there are other highlights like this. It looks like precious items are on display here. There are Chinese-style and Japanese-style ceramics lined up. Is this Benjarong porcelain? It’s so beautiful. Are these boats and drums here? Drums! Amazing! This is an ox-cart. I didn’t know they had these in Bangkok. This drum has such an amazing shape. Look at this! You don’t see many things shaped like this. The drum has a trumpet horn attached to it. It looks like it would make the sound even louder. It has an amazing shape. This is being pulled by horses… Isn’t it a carriage? I think so. It’s cool. The bow is shaped like a Naga. It looks like a boat. It has wheels, so it’s not a boat. A carriage? It’s so gorgeous. Cool! It’s beautiful. It’s a very gorgeous Buddhist altar. Wow. It’s shining gold. Look, there’s a conch shell. It’s huge. It’s a large shell with more decorations on it. It’s very stylish. Amazing. Down here is a Melo melo sea shell. Well then, let’s head up to the next floor. The one with the beautiful ceiling painting. That’s right. It’s so big. The pagoda is so big, my neck hurts from looking up. It’s gorgeous right from the entrance. It’s beautiful. You can take either the elevator or the stairs. The 3rd floor, like the 1st floor, has precious items on display. There’s a crystal quartz here. 🔮 Beautiful, treasure-like objects are on display. What is this symbol? They are unique, pagoda-like symbols. This is the 4th floor. It’s fun to climb the stairs and see all the different things. It is. The next floor is finally the floor with the emerald pagoda and the ceiling painting. It’s beautiful. When you reach the top floor, a mystical, otherworldly space unfolds, making you forget everyday life. Above you is a breathtakingly beautiful dome-shaped ceiling painting. This colorful space, depicting the vastness of the universe and the life of the Buddha, makes you feel as if you’ve wandered into a galaxy. The fantastical world woven from light and color envelops the viewer. The guardian deity “Naga, the serpent god” made of crystal glass. These are placed divinely around the pagoda. Shining in the center is the dazzling emerald pagoda. The delicate sparkle of the crystal glass is a symbol of the deep faith of the Thai people. This solemn beauty was born from the fusion of Wat Paknam’s history, which dates back to the Ayutthaya period, and modern technology. A miraculous space where deep Buddhist spirituality and art merge. It’s a place that leaves an unforgettable impression on the hearts of all who visit. It’s amazing. It really is beautiful. The colors are beautiful. It’s truly artistic. It’s so mystical. I wonder what made them decide on this design. It’s truly amazing. I’m moved seeing it again after so long. I really am. Well then, let’s head outside of this room. Let’s go. It’s so bright! The back of the Buddha statue looks so big. It’s beautiful. This is really nice. The weather has gotten better than before. It has. It was cloudy this morning, so I was worried. It cleared up so beautifully. You can tell how big the Buddha is by comparing its size to this building. The base alone is 3 to 4 stories high. It’s huge. It’s really huge. I really want people to see it in person. You can see a panoramic view of Bangkok’s cityscape from here. You’re right. It’s much taller than the surrounding buildings. Were we able to walk here last time we came? We were! Were we? When you come back after 3 years, you forget a little, so you can see it with fresh eyes. You can see Wat Khun Chan next door clearly, too. This is a great spot. It is. The temple next door is also unique and nice. The view along this canal is nice. It’s nice looking at the Bangkok skyline. It’s nice how you can see it in the distance. There are a few cafes inside the temple where you can take a break. We’ve decided to join a boat cruise. We’ll book the boat here. 🚤 It seems you can get a boat here, so we’ve placed an order. It was 200 baht per person. Alright, we’re going to get on the boat now. Let’s go. It was right outside the temple. I wonder if it’s a private boat? That’s the boat. The bridge is very beautiful. Last time we came, we didn’t come this way, so we didn’t notice the boat tour. We’ll wear a life vest for safety. This is our boat driver. The boat tour is starting now. It is. What an amazing bridge. It’s beautiful. This is great. It’s interesting to see all the different boats. There’s Vegeta, too. Sawasdee ka (Hello in Thai) Sawasdee ka (Hello in Thai) The Giant Buddha is coming into view. It’s beautiful. Wow. You can see the Giant Buddha really well from here. We’re glad we came this way. The boat driver took pictures for us. He was really good at taking pictures. He wasn’t just a pro at driving the boat, but at photography, too. That’s the pagoda we just climbed. So beautiful. There are beautiful flowers blooming. This is fun. It is fun. You should definitely do this. I agree. You can still see scenes of old-town Bangkok. It’s interesting to see both modern and old Bangkok. We’re passing under the BTS tracks. The people on the observation deck are waving at us. It was a very relaxing boat trip, enjoying the charming scenery along Bangkok’s canals. If you visit this temple, please be sure to check it out. We’re going to check out this cafe. Shall we? There was a cafe like this near the temple. It looks stylish. Let’s go. Sawasdee ka (Hello in Thai) It’s cute. Our drinks are here. It’s a Mapid coffee. That’s unusual! It’s a type of citrus fruit, apparently. It’s a small, orange-like fruit. Have you ever tried it? No. This is my first time. Let’s taste it. Let’s try this unusual drink. Okay. It’s orange-based, right? It might be something like an orange coffee. Nice. Let’s drink. Cheers. It’s citrusy… I just tasted orange. You get the flavor afterward? It’s good. I’m surprised by this way of drinking coffee. What’s that one? It tastes similar to kumquat. Oh, really? It tastes similar. It has a rosemary leaf in it. It tastes like a cocktail. Since coming to Thailand, I’ve tried so many different ways of drinking coffee. That’s true. There’s more variety than in Japan, it’s interesting. As expected from Thailand, a coffee-producing country. Exactly. This is a green… extraction from pandan leaves? Is it boiled? This is often used in desserts, right? Right, right. I’ll give it a try. For Japanese people, pandan is not familiar at all. Cheers. Delicious! It’s not too sweet, and has a faint pandan aroma. The pandan waffle looks good. It’s delicious! We’re back near the temple entrance. If you turn here from the entrance, you can go to a temple called “Wat Khun Chan.” Let’s check it out. We’re on our way home now. There’s a unique temple over here, too, shall we go? Let’s make a detour before we go home. This area is beautiful, too. I wonder what this building is. There are old buildings and temples lined up. You can see a magnificent building over there. It’s an old wooden building. It looks like it has a lot of history. It’s fun to be able to explore the back alleys. We’re getting closer to Wat Khun Chan. This is the place we passed on the boat earlier. It is. Cool! It is. We’ve just crossed the river. Here it is. We’ve arrived. This is it. Wat Khun Chan. This temple is so colorful. It’s a temple with many stupas. It’s amazing. This temple is so unique. This temple is flashy. It’s amazing. The colors are so gorgeous. You can see the Giant Buddha and the pagoda from Wat Paknam, which we just visited, from this temple as well. This temple really is unique. This depicts the god Rahu eating the moon. Above it is a statue of Erawan. And even further above that is a Giant Buddha. What an amazing combination. On the right side, there’s a Giant Buddha with many faces. And on top of that, there’s even a Naga. It’s so magnificent. If you go along the canal, there are statues of monks on their alms rounds. Alms-giving is a Buddhist practice common in Thailand and Laos. Apparently, it was also common in Japan in the past. How was it today? It was great to see so much of Wat Paknam today. The boat was great, too. The boat was fantastic. And the space with the emerald pagoda was amazing. That part was really great. The ceiling painting was truly moving. Seeing the ceiling painting again after so long, I got excited and just kept taking pictures. It’s a feature you won’t find in other temples. That’s true. This area is highly recommended. It is. I really hope people who come to Bangkok will visit. If you have time, you should also visit Wat Khun Chan. It’s right behind Wat Paknam, so this temple is also recommended. Please come and visit. It’s a very beautiful space. Everyone, please try traveling around this area. It’s completely different from what you see every day, so it’s guaranteed to be interesting. Well then, we’ll see you in the next one. See you next time. Bye-bye 👋 Thank you so much for watching all the way to the end.
