Hi, I’m Ah Han. Speaking of Hsinchu attractions, there are many fun places. For example, Beipu Old Street, Neiwan Old Street, Nanliao Fishing Port Bike Path, and so on. They’re all quite famous. But today we’re going to a quiet little town—Xinpu. When you hear the name of this town, does it strike you as unfamiliar? Or perhaps it’s boring? No! You’d be wrong. Xinpu Township is actually rich in history and culture, with various historical sites. We’ll also take you to the trail’s observation deck. The scenery is truly soothing. Let’s begin our tour with the time-honored Route 5621. Before we take you on your tour, Remember to like, subscribe, and turn on the bell! Starting now There aren’t many routes from Hsinchu to Xinpu. But the route we’re going to explore today is… It’s the 5621, which only runs six times a day. This one is a little special… We passed Yimin Temple. Wait a moment then. We’d also like to introduce some attractions near Xinpu. Do you know where Xinpu is? We’re not talking about Banqiao MRT Xinpu Station. Rather, we’re talking about Xinpu Township in Hsinchu County, a town steeped in Hakka flavor. It’s adjacent to Zhubei City, Guanxi Township, Qionglin Township, and Yangmei and Longtan Districts in Taoyuan City. Xinpu’s main thoroughfare is County Road 118. However, we’re not taking County Road 118 today. The 5621 we’re taking passes in front of Zhubei Station and along Yimin Road and Fangliao in Xinpu. Currently, it’s the only route that crosses Yimin Road in Xinpu. Previously, there were two routes between Hsinchu and Xinpu. One was the 5618, which passes through Zhongshan Road and Litoushan in Zhubei. The 5618 is essentially a shuttle bus between the 5619 and 5620 routes, with a nearly identical route. There was a time when it had quite a few services. In recent years, due to declining birth rates and a shortage of drivers, the service has been gradually reduced. It is now discontinued. The other route is the 5621, which passes through Yimin Temple and Xinpu Fangliao. Since Hsinchu Bus will no longer operate provincial highway bus routes, Starting November 1, 2024, operations will be handed over to E-Jet Technology. Currently, six trips per day are still in operation. We are now passing through the Touqian River, Hsinchu’s main river. During the early Japanese era, for military transportation purposes… When the Governor-General’s Office decided to build a military road from Taipei to Fenggang, Pingtung, While passing through Touqian Creek, they discovered there was no bridge there. Thus, the Touqian Creek Bridge was planned. It was completed and opened in 1929. Typhoon Herb of 1996 The flooding of Touqian Creek caused a scour Causing the piers of the Touqian Creek Bridge to tilt The Highway Bureau subsequently decided to rebuild and widen Touqian West Bridge. Opened to traffic in January 1999 The rebuilt bridge also connects to the ramp of Provincial Highway 68 Expressway. This is how it looks today. After crossing the Touqian Creek Bridge We enter Zhubei City. Zhubei was formerly known as the Old Port. Because this was once the port of Fengshan Creek. After the Nationalist government came to Taiwan Geographically located north of Hsinchu City Renamed Zhubei Township in 1946 In 1988, due to the establishment of the Hsinchu County government in Zhubei, it was upgraded to Zhubei City. Zhubei City’s current population is approximately 220,000. It is the second most populous county-level city in Taiwan. Due to the development of Hsinchu Science Park Since the 1990s Housing projects have mushroomed in Zhubei City. In recent years, the development of the Hsinchu High Speed Rail Station and the Hsinchu Science Park Biomedical Park has led to a surge in the population. The population has increased significantly over the past 30 years. This has transformed Zhubei from a rural village into a bustling city. The Baozhongting Yimin Temple in Hsinchu has a very long history. The origins of the Yimin Temple can be traced back to the Lin Shuangwen Incident during the Qianlong era of the Qing Dynasty. At that time, the imperial court was trying to ban the Tiandihui. Lin Shuangwen called on the people to rebel against the imperial court. Among them, local gentry member Lin Xiankun organized a volunteer army to assist the soldiers in suppressing the rebellion. Over 200 people tragically died in the battle. After the rebellion was quelled, the remains of the volunteers were buried in this location. Emperor Qianlong commended the volunteers who contributed money and effort during the rebellion and awarded them a plaque inscribed with the inscription “Praise Loyalty.” Local gentry suggested building a temple to honor them. Thus, the Yimin Temple came into being. The Yimin Temple was completed in 1788. The Yimin Temple in Hsinchu is arguably the headquarters of all Yimin Temples in Taiwan. In 2006, it was designated a designated historical site in Hsinchu County. The temple enshrines the Three Mountain Kings, Shennong Huangdi, and Guanyin Bodhisattva. The Yimin Festival, held annually on the 20th day of the seventh lunar month, is a lively event. It is a major festival and religious center for the Hakka people in Hsinchu. In the area of Yimin Road Section 1, there is a bus stop called Xinxiongtian. The origin of this place name. This refers to newly reclaimed land. When the ancestors of the Qing Dynasty arrived in Xinpu to reclaim land, Over 30 canals were dug. The earliest canals included Qitian Xinpi Canal and Fangliao Pi Canal The Fangliao Pi Canal draws water from the Xinxiongtian creek out of Taipingwo. and flows into the Fengshan Creek at Fangliao. The irrigated area can reach up to 80 mu. After the Fangliao Pi Canal was dug It made it easier for our ancestors to cultivate their fields. The Fangliao area also became the granary of Xinpu. This has driven the development of the Fangliao area in Xinpu. We passed Yimin Road. We’re almost entering Xinpu City. We’ll turn onto Heping Street soon. Don’t be fooled by the narrowness of this street; this is Xinpu Old Street. Xinpu’s First and Second Markets The Zhu Family Temple, the Pan Family Ancestral House, and the Liu Family Temple are all here. It’s a very ancient old street. I’ll come back and give you a tour after we get off the bus. It’s around 3:30 PM now. First, let’s take you to Xinpu Old Street. After that, We’ll go to the Japanese Park in Xinpu and take in the scenery from the observation deck. On the day of the filming When Han got off the car Met the enthusiastic driver Hoping we could be in the film together Of course, no problem. After a brief chat with the driver I’m walking back along Heping Street. Let me introduce you to Xinpu Old Street. The first place we visited was Xinpu’s First Public Market. This market has over a century of history. This is what Xinpu residents generally refer to as the “Traditional Market.” In addition to dried persimmons, pickles, and preserved plums, the market also offers… There are also delicious dishes like rice noodles, smoked sausage, fish soup, and more. There’s also a wide variety of traditional Hakka delicacies and rural goods. If you want to visit this market… It’s recommended to arrive before noon. Han arrived in the afternoon. Most of the stalls have closed. Walk back outside to Heping Street. When you walk down the street, you’ll definitely hear the saying “Three Streets, Six Alleys, Nine Ancestral Halls.” Because Xinpu was developed relatively early, Many historical buildings remain in the area. Historic sites surround you wherever you go. On Heping Street in Xinpu, you can see the Zhu Family Temple, the Liu Family Temple, and the Pan Residence in Xinpu. The Zhu Family Temple in Xinpu is located next to the Pan Residence. Built in 1846. During the Japanese era. Zhu Shizong’s relatives believed this place had excellent feng shui. So they asked the owner to convert it into a family temple. Across from the Zhu family temple is a side cave. To put it simply, This is where early residents did their laundry. This washing cave has a natural spring. Small bubbles appear in the water. Local legend has it that This is called the Crab Cave. This acupuncture point is located right next to the fault line on the mountainside and the riverbank. It’s an old rumor. Using the water here to wash clothes will bring abundant wealth. During the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty Our ancestors arrived in Xinpu. This place was cultivated. Turning wasteland into farmland Because this was newly developed land So it was called Xinpu During the Jiaqing period of the Qing Dynasty, Xinpu was a distribution center for rice, sugar, tea, and camphor. Therefore Early development was quite prosperous. After visiting the Crab Hole Laundry Cave You can see this mosaic collage along the way. It was created by retired artist Lü Chengmin. The scenery in the painting depicts the former appearance of Xinpu Street (now Zhongzheng Road). This mosaic is made up of 40,000 pieces. The Japanese Park in Xinpu is located in Lane 170 on Chenggong Street. You can enter from Huadeng Lane. Or you can enter from the lane on Shangzhang Road Section 1. After reaching the Tudigong Temple, You will see a walking path nearby. Up there is Japan Park. Japan Park was built during the Japanese era. Cherry blossoms bloom abundantly here in February and March. It’s a place for locals to enjoy the flowers. But there are no cherry blossoms to see today. Let’s take you to a vantage point to enjoy the entire view of Xinpu Town. Today, we introduced the culture and scenery of Xinpu. Including Yimin Temple, Xinpu Old Street, Japanese Park, and more. I hope you enjoy it. Han, that’s all for today’s brief introduction. Next time, if there’s a chance, I’ll introduce more local Hsinchu itineraries. Okay, now that we’ve brought you to Japan Park, what about…? We’re getting ready to descend the mountain. This concludes today’s recording. I’m Ah Han. Enjoy our channel! Please like, subscribe, and turn on the bell. Bye~
