鎌倉|朝5時、誰もいない鎌倉を歩く。静かなひとり旅vlog|カフェ・小町通り食べ歩きの観光
good morning It’s 5:53 a.m. right now. I’m at Kamakura Station,
the starting point of the Enoden Line. My first time ever taking the first train of the day. It’s still only 5 a.m., so it’s really quiet— hardly anyone around. Maybe because the train is green,
even the seats inside are green. I love the retro vibe. The hanging straps feel nostalgic too. The train slowly starts moving. The sound of the tracks and the motor
echo softly through the car. The morning sun is starting to shine in, painting the sky in beautiful colors. One thing about the Enoden—
it runs incredibly close to people’s houses. Like, wow, it’s really that close! Such a thrill. My first destination is Kamakurakōkō-mae Station. It’s about a 20-minute ride from here. As the train moves on,
I can see glimpses of the ocean between the houses. The sea’s getting closer! Kamakurakōkō-mae is just ahead. I can even see Enoshima in the distance— what a breathtaking view. Personally, this stretch of the ride
is my favorite ocean view. Arrived at Kamakurakōkō-mae. Time to say goodbye to the Enoden for now. I’ve stepped off onto the platform, and right in front of me— the sea. It’s calm, the air feels so fresh, it’s honestly overwhelming. First, let’s head to the beach. The beach is so peaceful this morning. It feels like pure tranquility. Some people are out jogging or walking their dogs. Around this time, it feels less like a tourist spot and more like catching a glimpse
of the locals’ morning. The air’s cool, the visibility’s clear, and the sea breeze is gentle. Just walking here feels refreshing. And of course,
the spot you can’t miss at Kamakurakōkō-mae—this railroad crossing. It’s the one from the opening scene of Slam Dunk,
a famous anime. It used to be just a regular crossing
for local students on their way to school, but now it’s one of Kamakura’s most iconic spots. So many visitors come here from overseas. Looks like a train’s coming… There it is! It passed by in a flash. And here comes the second chance— the train, the sea, and this crossing together. No wonder it’s so photogenic. From another angle, the view is just as nice. Hardly any crowds —
the perfect start to my Kamakura trip. Now I’m back on the Enoden,
and I’ve arrived at Hase Station. It’s still early in the morning,
calm and quiet. I found something strange at the vending machine on the platform— they’re selling food samples! Mini plastic food models like fried shrimp, oranges, pancakes, strawberries, edamame, and tempura. In Hase, there’s a temple that opens early in the morning,
so I’m heading there next. The bell rings for 8 a.m. The big lantern marks the entrance. Time to pay the admission fee . — 400 yen for adults. Stepping inside, I can smell the wood and feel the cool, crisp air. The morning light reflects off the stone path — so beautiful. Since it’s still early,
there are hardly any people around. I’ll take my time exploring with the pamphlet in hand. This temple is also known as “the temple of flowers,” famous for its seasonal blooms — cherry blossoms in spring, hydrangeas in early summer,
and autumn leaves in the fall. Unfortunately, it’s still a bit early for the foliage this time. In the pond, koi fish swim gracefully. And by the water’s edge,
there’s a smiling “Nagomi Jizō” statue — It’s actually quite large up close. that gentle smile is just perfect. To reach the main hall,
you climb a set of steep stairs. It’s quite a climb! This is the main hall — so grand and impressive. Found the goshuin stamps. There are so many kinds! I got an embroidered goshuin — it’s just too cute. There’s another smiling Nagomi Jizō here, and the embroidery features autumn leaves for the season. Now I’ve come to the viewing platform. Seeing the ocean up close is nice, but from up high, it’s just as beautiful. The morning light sparkles on the water — so stunning. There’s another staircase ahead, so let’s climb a bit more. The view of Kamakura from here is wonderful, too. And finally, the Good Luck Jizō. Just looking at it makes you smile. It’s quite small, so don’t miss it! I had such a peaceful time here at Hase-dera Temple. This path is so narrow — it has such a charming, old-town feel. I’m taking a little walk around Hase now. This area is known for its many shrines, and walking through the quiet streets feels really nice. I heard there’s a shrine with a railroad crossing
right in front of it, so let’s check it out. a small shrine located right along the Enoden tracks. It’s very quiet here. I think a train’s about to pass… Whoa, that was so close! What a rush! The scenery here is incredible — the sea, the trees — everything’s just beautiful. And hardly anyone around — a real hidden gem. A few minutes’ walk from Goryō Shrine It’s one of the seven historic routes of Kamakura. In the old days,
people and goods would pass through here to enter the city. The trees sway gently in the wind — so peaceful. And just beyond them, the ocean. Perfect view. It’s a place full of history,
yet it feels simple, calm, and comforting. After all that walking since early morning, I’m ready for some breakfast. The Enoden trains are starting to get busier now — commuters and tourists mixed together. I’m heading to a café just 30 seconds from the station — Established in 1945,
it’s one of Kamakura’s most beloved old cafés. The cute food samples at the entrance are its landmark. The retro vibe already has me excited before even stepping inside. I was shown to my seat. The café is surprisingly spacious, with a few tables overlooking the courtyard — so nice. The brown retro chairs are just adorable. From 9 a.m. to 11:30, they serve a morning set. It includes light meals like sandwiches,
and their pancakes I even spotted a chestnut parfait for autumn! Starting my morning with something sweet — sugar levels about to skyrocket. The sandwich is packed with pineapple, kiwi, mandarin orange, yellow peach, and banana And here’s their original Iwata Coffee blend. The sandwich feels heavy — you can tell it’s loaded with fruit. Apparently, the fruits change by season, which totally makes me want to come back again. Such a relaxing way to spend the morning. The rich whipped cream hit my empty stomach—
totally worth it though. Now I’m on Komachi Street, basically the main shopping street of Kamakura. From long-standing traditional shops
to trendy new ones, there are so many places to check out. After 10:30, the crowd really starts to grow. I’ve wandered a bit off Komachi Street now. Just a few steps down a narrow alley,
and it’s suddenly so peaceful— hard to believe it’s the same Kamakura. Much quieter here,
and the atmosphere feels calm and relaxed. Amazing how the vibe changes
just by turning one corner. The bright blue sky makes the building stand out beautifully. This is Kamakura Beniya Komachi Yokojirō-ten. This place has both a café and a shop. They sell lots of walnut-based sweets
like pound cakes and cookies, plus original items like calendars and notebooks—so cute. Their signature sweet is called Kurumikko: buttery cookies sandwiching homemade caramel
packed with crunchy walnuts. The packaging was just too cute to resist, and it’s perfect as a souvenir. Time to keep strolling around Kamakura. I’m back near the main street by the station. Still lively as ever,
but the air feels fresh and calm— such a nice atmosphere. I stumbled upon this veggie market while walking around, so I decided to stop by. They sell local produce from Kamakura, and it’s even known as “Kamakura’s kitchen.” Amazingly, this place has been around since 1928. Lots of autumn vegetables on display. Carrots for 100 yen — such a deal! Water spinach for 150 yen. Watching locals chat with each other
gave me this warm, cozy feeling. After exploring the Kamakura Station area, I’m heading to the next town — Kita-Kamakura. I’m taking the JR Yokosuka Line. I thought about walking there, but it’s a bit farther than I expected,so I hopped on the train instead. Just like the Enoden,
it runs surprisingly close to the houses — Just one stop from Kamakura Station,
but the atmosphere feels completely different. The area around the station is full of trees and so quiet— peaceful and calm. Hard to believe this quiet place is only minutes away
from the busy Kamakura Station. It’s around noon now,
so I’m heading to grab some lunch. The exterior looks like a classic Japanese house. There’s a menu outside— and surprisingly, you can order ramen and sushi together. Such a rare combo! I stepped through the noren curtain into the restaurant. Inside, there are three tables for four
and one for two— a small, cozy space with a warm, simple charm. Here’s the sushi menu— they have nigirizushi and chirashizushi. And here’s the ramen menu. On the table, there’s soy sauce, shichimi spice, and pepper. I ordered the owner’s recommended nigirizushi. Each piece shines beautifully—so fresh-looking. Tuna, squid, shrimp, egg, and more. Every piece is made with care,
and the rice size looks just right. The egg is thick and fluffy, the shrimp perfectly springy, the negitoro bite-sized and rich, and the anago soft and delicate. Every bite is just amazing—
I can’t stop eating. The toro melts in your mouth, and the hokkigai has that nice chewy texture. The tuna and squid have such a gentle flavor. The owner was so kind—
it really made for a wonderful lunch. Now that I’m full,
time for another walk. I found a crossing here in Kita-Kamakura. It’s part of the JR Yokosuka Line, I think. The area’s surrounded by houses,
and there’s even a bamboo grove nearby. Looks like a train’s coming soon… There it goes—rushing past with great force! It’s about an eight-minute walk from the station. I’ve arrived at Jōchi-ji Temple. Just a moment ago, I could still hear cars and trains— but here, only the sound of birds. Surrounded by trees,
the sunlight filters softly through the leaves. The air feels cool and fresh. To reach the entrance, I climb up the stone steps. The admission fee is 300 yen for adults. Time to take a look around. First, the study hall—built in 1924. It has a simple, quiet charm that feels like stepping back in time. The path ahead gets denser with trees, and it’s hard to believe I was just walking along a busy street. The trail is flat and easy to walk—no fatigue at all. The weather is perfect today, and the cool breeze feels amazing. And here’s the bamboo grove area. Such a calm, beautiful atmosphere— There aren’t many tourists,
and it feels as if time has stopped. The Statue of Hotei—
said to bring happiness and good fortune. That gentle smile is lovely. After about forty minutes of wandering, I feel completely at peace. Now that I’ve explored Kita-Kamakura, I’m heading back to Kamakura again. There’s one more place I really want to visit,
so I’m taking the train back. The quiet of Kita-Kamakura was so soothing, but I’m guessing Kamakura Station
will be bustling again by now— What a contrast from this morning— Kamakura Station is packed! The platform’s full of people. Definitely a full train this time. Amazing how the atmosphere changes
just with the time of day. About seven minutes on the Enoden, and I’ve arrived at Gokurakuji Station. Such a cute, retro station building. It’s a small unmanned station—quiet and calm. I’m walking around the Gokurakuji area now. There aren’t many people here either,
and the atmosphere feels so peaceful. Every Enoden station has its own character, but this one feels especially serene. Time seems to move slower here. More like a nostalgic neighborhood
than a tourist spot. I even found a cozy-looking old Chinese restaurant. About a five-minute walk brings me to… This place actually wholesales spices
for curry and other dishes. The little eggplant statue out front is its landmark— oddly funny and cute. Inside, the air is filled with the scent of spices. They sell spices imported from India and Sri Lanka. Their most popular item is a “curry spice set,”
a pre-mixed kit that lets anyone
make authentic curry easily at home. Each spice looks and smells different— just looking at them is fun. They also sell blends for chai milk tea. The staff kindly explains how to use each one,
which makes it even better. The old house atmosphere mixed with
the exotic aroma makes this place
strangely cozy and relaxing. So, my Kamakura trip that began at 5 a.m. is finally coming to an end. What I realized this time is—
for popular tourist spots, early mornings are the best time to visit. Morning in Kamakura is calm and clear, and even the same scenery looks completely different
from how it does in the afternoon. The popular spots are still quiet in the morning, and you can walk around at your own pace. By noon, the crowds grow fast, trains get busy, and the streets fill with people— but that lively side is also part of Kamakura’s charm. I walked quite a lot today, but the ocean, temples, and cafés—
each had their own beauty. I’d love to come back in another season, to see a different light, a different breeze,
a different Kamakura. When I do,
I want to start again on that early morning train, watching the ocean as the day begins. My legs were dead tired by evening, but my heart feels full—so it’s all worth it. Time to crash and sleep like a log tonight. And that wraps up my solo trip to Kamakura. Where should I go next? Maybe I’ll start searching
while lazing around in bed. Thanks so much for watching till the end.

On my recent holiday trip to Japan in September/October this year ,I would always start the day of exploration at 6am. Kamakura and Enoshima were magical at that time of day. I'm missing Japan already🥺
