松江の魅力を探る – 歴史ある街並み、美しい運河、そして武家文化遺産
All right, everybody. Welcome back to the perfect walk. My name is Clint and we are in Matsuer. And I think I’ve got that right pronunciationwise, Matsuer. But apologies if I don’t. We are going to check out this really cool and fairly hidden gym city in northern I shouldn’t say northern Japan on the west coast of Japan. Northern Japan I guess is Hokkaido. And we are near the train station. That’s where we’re starting our walk at. Ye old train station. The stuff is safe. My stuff is safely stowed. My stuff is safely stowed. Here’s the everpresent convenini. Station was pretty nice. It is 3:30 in the afternoon and my aim is to walk until dinner. Look like there’s some cool restaurants down here, of course, by the station and lots of business hotels for people doing business. What is this city? This city is called the city of water. It is home to a castle. It is near a lake. There’s a samurai district, not as giant, I don’t think, as some of the other ones we’ve seen. Kanazawa as an example. Kushiki. Those ones are probably bigger, but every place has its unique charms. So, we’ll check out Metsu on its own. Merit, is that an observation tower? No, I don’t think so. That would be cool, though. That looks like it’s attached to that building there. So, it’s for official business only. TSK. I bet it might be a broadcasting tower. Here’s the river. There’s a river. There’s a lake. We’re near the ocean. There’s a canal. It sometimes rains. That’s all five types of water. Looks like a charming place. Chill AF for sure. We’re going to cross the river over to what looks like a residential area to me. The castle is that way. According to the Google maps, It’s been a long day. 5 hours on the train. so far. And I also spent some time in another city today. So, might be a little bit less talkative today. Just a little bit. Don’t hold it against me. If you’re new to the channel, welcome. We explore all over the world. New walking videos every single week. halfhour episodes. You can depend on it like clockwork. We’re going to be in Japan for a while and then we’ll start exploring other places again. I will also sprinkle in some walks from my home, Kentucky. Looks like there’s a party going on. It’s a private party. I’ll try not to film them. Looks like fun. No, it’s a pop-up restaurant. Very cool. Hello [Music] What’s that? Uh, vegetarian. Yeah. All right. We just met some really nice folks at the pop-up restaurant. Um, and they were uh very, very nice. They gave me some recommendations on local things to do. Um, very nice folks and they also subscribed to the channel. So, thank you so much friends. Very nice to meet you. [Applause] How do we get Very nice to meet those friendly strangers. They said it was a a popup they were doing. So maybe for Golden Week. Uh, his recommendation for me to go check out in the area was the shrine that I definitely am going to check out in the area tomorrow. So, that’s exciting that uh the local folks believe that that shrine is absolutely worth going to see. It’s uh the famous the most famous or second most famous shrine in all of Japan, Shinto Shrine. So excited to check it out. and it was very kind. What I don’t know if you caught it at the very start of the video of that section. I’ll edit out most of my conversation with them, but uh they flagged me down and invited me to to have a meal and I had to share with them that I’m a vegetarian. So, I wasn’t able to eat what looked like some kind of uh mutton or chop situation. They were like stewing pork. It looked like All right. So, we’ll go right down here and walk by the waterway a little bit. And then there’s a canal over this way and we’ll try and catch that as well. [Music] I think this says go ahead and cross or it says definitely don’t cross. One of those two. Looks like wallpaper. It’s a lot of plants pressed up against the window. That guy had a Pokemon ball in his hand. He was playing it super cool, but he’s a dork just like me. It’s a Pokemon community day, so we will see people out catching Pokémon, I’m sure. And there’s the big lake out there. It looks like the ocean, but I promise you it is a lake. snack. Sounds like a good idea. I don’t know if I said this earlier or not, but it is uh Sunday. So, Sunday late afternoon, I’m not sure how many people will be out and about exploring. Certainly, it doesn’t look like Matsu is too popping on a Sunday. Oh, this street looks cool. We’ll head up this way and try and catch the canal, which is north of the river. So, it’s got to be up here someplace. [Music] We’ll go down this street. It looks interesting. Oh, lots of lots of bars. But I’m probably just a hair too early. Maybe when we walk back through later. That building is cool. Look at that thing. Uhoh. Light pole hangings. You know what that means? Interesting neighborhood coming up. It’s a universal sign. And if you’re ever in a city and you see that they have put up light pole flags, get ye into that neighborhood. Oh yeah. And then the second telltale sign. Oh my gosh. We’ve got a change in pavement. light bull flags and a change in pavement combined means it’s a really nice thing to go see. So, you got to like that. [Music] Matsui City Hotel. That looks like an old grand old place. Here’s some music of this little pocket park. That’s cute. All right. 300th [Music] anniversary pottery [Music] store. How cute is this? [Music] That must be this neighborhood. Kiomomas Komas. Yeah, it is Komi info. So, this little shopping street 300 years. Wow. So, this shopping street is older than America. That’s crazy. How fun is that? Looks like it’s seen some renovations. Wonder what the oldest remaining building is. It’s like when I visited the oldest street in Paris and there wasn’t it wasn’t really well let me put it this way. It uh it had been there since the Roman times and there wasn’t anything left from the Roman times. pizza restaurant. Looks like this continues on this way for a while. I think we’ll go this way. Actually, go try and find that canal like we talked about. We’ve got about 10 more minutes on today’s walk, everyone. I hope you’re enjoying seeing this appropriately sized city. Like this is what I mean by that is it’s a city that is large enough to be interesting and small enough that you can know it intimately. Some of these giant cities, they change so dynamically and so all the time and they’re so big that you can never really truly know the place. You can know its essence, but you can’t, you know, really know it’s all of its nooks and crannies. Here’s the canal as promised. Ah, they do boats. Boat tours. That’s very fun. Oh my lord, look at this coffee shop. Coffee and cake. It’s certainly the cutest coffee shop on the block. The roasting room. How about that? Just another cool part of town. I love Oh, they almost got hit. Cake, dessert. Some pretty cool stuff. Parakoro Plaza over there. The castle looks like it’s still straight ahead. Oh, here’s a little park terrace here. Like prominade. Let’s go check it out. Matsuoi water terrace. Little places to eat and relax. I like that the benches have kind of a table overhang here. I bet that’s fantastic for when these restaurants are open. Looks like about one in every four places is a restaurant here. Yeah, this is really pretty. Ah, and here’s a tourist boat. We can say hi. Oh, fish just jumped. That’s what the tourist boats look like. [Music] Uh pastry shop. Enjoy the water terrace. I will. Thank you. I am. I have been. I will continue to. No doubt about it. So canal and river running side by side. Very cool. Low bridges. Oh, I see the castle. It’s over that way. Let’s go. It’s always good to see a castle peeking around a corner. Oh, big boom. Let’s go so we don’t miss the light. Beep bop beep bop beep bop boot beep beep bop bing bong. Yeah, straight ahead. And this said town plaza here. This looks like a museum right here. Maybe a perfectional museum. Oh, the walls here look substantial. The castle walls. Fairly impressive. We’ll cross the road right here cuz it looks like there’s a little park that we can get into. It’s windy in Matsui. Supposed to be the water city, not the wind [Applause] city. Each for all and all for each. I like that. Think we can all get behind that. [Music] See the lady who said hi. That’s so cool. Love it when people say hi instead of hiding. I mean, I’m obviously not a crazy person. Just have fun. Bing bing bing bing bing bing. Beautiful building. the Takashima Reference Room. So, it’s a library and a specific fancy library. We have a statue right here of an archer on horseback. Lord Naomasa Matsera statue. There’s a house in this town too of a one of the earliest western authors to visit and write about Japan. I forget his name. It’s on one of these signs, I’m sure. Oh, left cidio leftidio. I think he was Greek. But he was here a long time ago and it must have been totally mindbending cuz Japan is still pretty unique. But the world, I think, thanks to the instant sharing of everything all the time and the instant sharing of ideas and the blending of cultures, the world is becoming one big giant culture. Hopefully that can happen before it’s too late. Imagine if you could could just come to a place like Japan or New Zealand or Poland or Russia or China or wherever because we didn’t need governments or armies or any of that. I’m going to start singing imagine, I think. But anyway, it would be nice. It would be nice if it was just people. I don’t think you’ll be able to stop the spread of kind of global culture. I don’t think that’s stopping. I don’t think you can put that genie back in the bottle short of disconnecting a country from the internet. All right. And uh as usual, we are not going to be filming inside the castle. Um you’ve seen plenty of castle walks. This castle will look a lot like the other castles on the inside. And this is where we will stop on that uh dreamy can’t we all get along kind of message. What a beautiful place this is. I love it. Love the town. The people seem fantastically nice. And I’m going to keep exploring. Everybody, thank you as always for the love and the support. See you next time.
