FANTASTIC FOOD THE REWARD FOR ALL IN NOZAWA | Eating Heaven | 野沢温泉村 日本 JAPAN | Ep 11 2025

fantastic food is a reward for mediocre boarding and skiing skills. That’s right.
Even uncos can eat like champions in Nozawa. We start our eating journey at a
favorite from last year’s trip, Toyo Ramen. Ramens from 800 yen and a few
other dishes including gyozas, gyudon, and fried rice. But you definitely go there for the ramen. [Music] Directly opposite Toyo Ramen is Tsukushinbo Izakaya. Has a bar, bench seats, or traditional Japanese dining areas.
If you’re unsure about izakaya, think of it as the Japanese equivalent of tapus.
So, you get to try plenty of small dishes. Things like agadashi tofu, sashimi, both the fish
and horse variety, chicken yakatori, mushrooms, seared meats and fish, karaage chicken. They do
soba and udon noodles too. It was all very oishi. Remember to drink in moderation when going out. Next, we are chowing down at Sumonabe,
which not surprisingly serves sumo nabe, also known as chunko nabe. Basically, it’s a
big hot pot dish, which sumos eat to fatten up. We had the chicken nabe hot pot and the sukiyaki nabe hot pot. Both were very good. It’s a real dining experience having sumo nabe. Big hot pot comes out. Wait for it to heat up. Give it a stir. Cooking finishes. Start eating.
Don’t take too much broth cos noodles will be added later. Cost was 2,200 yen each.
Probably worth it for the experience. Next up is Shohei Soba. You go here
especially for soba and tempura dishes. They also do a small selection of other noodle
and rice dishes. Prices range from around 1,000 to 2,000 yen. Ramen showed her appreciation
for her meal with one of the loudest burps ever produced. It was as if an ocean liner
was moving down Oyu street. Here’s an accurate reproduction. Now, tensions can sometimes arise
on holidays. Jaffa thought his eating suggestions weren’t being listened to, and he put his foot
down. I don’t care if we’re in a small Japanese village. I want to go to this pizza place. I
know what good pizza looks like. And this is good pizza. Yeah. Okay, we can have pizza.
Calm down. This is Akari House Swiss Bakery. We are Akari first timers and they do very good pizzas. Pizza prices start from 1,800 yen for for the margarita and go up to 2500 yen.
They are a decent size and super tasty. Jaffa showed his appreciation for the meal with
some belly button banjo playing. [Music] Next up is Bilikan Shukudo. Also a
new place for us and definitely a good find. They kind of do a bit of
everything. Rice and noodle dishes, katsu curry, pizzas, salads, spaghetti. Ordering is made super easy off a tablet. This is important because on the night the
waitress had no English language skills and we had no Japanese language skills beyond arigato gozaimus and konichiwa, which wasn’t going to get us far. Next up is Genki Burger, just off Oyu
Street. This place does decent burgers, fries, plain or loaded, and a couple of sides.
Burgers range from 950 yen to 1,600 yen, and loaded fries are about 1,000 yen. The place
is small, but people move in and out quickly, so persevere if you want a seat or just get takeaway. Last but definitely not least is Wakagiri.
This place always seems to be booked out, so book ahead or turn up early and try for
a walk in as we did. It’s worth it. Wide variety of options and all done really
well. Value for money here is excellent. All right, that’s it. As usual,
thanks for watching. Remember to like and subscribe. And until next time,
stay safe and wear a helmet.

Is there anything better than a katsu curry? Or ramen, or takoyaki, or tempura for that matter. Japanese food is delicious. 😋
When did you go?
