TOP 10 KYOTO Must-Buy Items You Shouldn’t Miss | Shopping Guide in Kyoto
Hello, I’m Kyoto local. Today I’ll talk about 10
must buy items in Kyoto that you definitely don’t miss it. When you think of Kyoto, you probably
imagine historic temples, beautiful shrines, and stunning traditional streets, but Kyoto is
also packed with amazing food, crafts, and unique goods. I picked up 10 items. Let’s dive in!
No.1 Kyoto Cup Ramen Instant noodle is very well known and useful
items for souvenir daily life. And in Kyoto supermarket as supermarket in other area,
there is instant noodle section. Of course, the common products are very attractive. But I
want to share the item which only you can get here. This is Kyoto instant ramen. Chewy texture
of noodle, good taste of bakquat, soy sauce based soup and good flavor of green onions. They have
good combo. You can have good quality of ramen like restaurants after you wait for 5 minutes.
In Kyoto, there are a lot of ramen restaurants as many people are waiting, especially well-known
restaurants. If you have heavy schedule in Kyoto, this ramen is very recommended.
No.2 Chirimen Sansho Chirimen sansho is very well-known souvenir
in Kyoto. Normally you can’t get it in other areas supermarket. Chirimen sansho is produced by
simmering Chirimen jacko dried young sardines and Sansho Japanese pepper corn berries in soy sauce.
Traditionally we use it as rice accompaniment or condiment in salad etc. Actually, many Japanese
have loved the rice and Chirimen Sansho combo for a long time. Hard texture of Chirimen and hot and
unique flavor of Sansho. I want you to try it. You can encounter chirimen sansho shops in well-known
tourist attractions in Kyoto like Kiyomizu temple. But there are a lot of people in supermarket. You
can select with relaxed feeling. The cost is ¥300, USD2. Also, it’s cheaper than souvenir shop.
So, the quality is same. So, if interested, I want you to get it in supermarket.
No.3, Aburatorigami oil bloating paper. Yojiya is a well-known traditional Japanese
cosmetics brand founded in Kyoto in 1904. One of its most iconic and bestselling products
is the Aburatorigami or oil bloating paper. Yojiya oil bloating paper is made from high quality
natural materials such as genuine washi paper which is soft and gentle on the skin. Each
sheet effectively absorbs excess oil without disturbing makeup making it perfect for touch-ups
throughout the day. It features the iconic image of a Kyoto style woman. The design reflects
traditional Japanese aesthetics and makes for a stylish gift or souvenir. The cost is ¥400,
USD2.7. It’s easy to carry and reasonable, so good souvenir for you, I think.
No.4 YatsuHashi Yatsuhashi is a traditional Japanese sweet
that originates from Kyoto. Known for its delicate and unique flavors. There
are two main types. NamayatsuHashi, Row Yatsuhashi and baked Yatsuhashi. I picked up
namayatsuashi. NamayatsuHashi is a chewy slightly sticky treat made from a mixture of rice raw,
sugar, and cinnamon. I pick up matcha flavor one. The charm of Yatsuashi lies in its rich
history and connection to Kyoto’s culture. It reflects the region’s deep appreciation
for craftsmanship, seasonal ingredients, and a balance of taste and texture. The cost is
¥300, USD2.0. You can get not only souvenir shops, but also supermarkets. I want you to try it.
No.5 Matcha snacks Matcha is very well-known product in Kyoto and
in Kyoto supermarket there are more matcha items than other area and the items which only you can
get here. Matcha chocolate is very good taste so very common in Kyoto but I want to share this
item. Confetti, matcha cookies sandwich the cheese cream. This matcha has been produced since
1781 and is used a lot in this cookie. Deep flavor matcha and creamy cheese cream are good combo.
It’s individually wrapped item. So for souvenir is also good. Of course on the way of your
destination it’s good partner for you. The cost is ¥200, USD1.3. You can enjoy matcha products
very easily. So please get it in supermarket. No.6 Arare.
Arare cubic rice cracker is wellknown item in Japan. Hard texture soy sauce
flavor rice crackers and green tea are good combo. And in Kyoto supermarket, there are many Kyoto
cubic rice cracker here. Kyoto arare is made by craftsman. not continued production in factory
but individual production. So you can enjoy more delicate cubic rice crackers here. The cost is
¥300, USD2.0. The difference between Kyoto and normal cubic rice cracker is sophistication.
I want to try it to tell the difference. No.7 Lemonade
Kyoto lemonade stands out as a refreshing fusion of traditional Japanese tea culture and
contemporary beverage innovation. You can get it at supermarket, vending machine, etc. Kyoto
lemonade blends a rich heritage of Kyoto’s tea culture with a modern twist. Creating a beverage
that is both nostalgic and innovative. This drink combines the subtle aroma of green tea with a
zesty sweetness of lemon and honey, offering a harmonious and unique flavor profile. The cost is
¥150, USD1. You can enjoy Kyoto mood very easily through this item, so highly recommended!
No.8 Geta. Geta are a type of traditional Japanese sandal
made from wood often worn with kimono or Yukata. They look like a mix between flip props and crocs
with a wooden base and cross song straps. Their elevated wooden base and simple cross straps givea
a minimal yet elegant design. The balance between practicality and beauty reflects the Japanese
sense of aesthetics. One of the most charming aspects of Geta is rhythmic crack sound they make
on the pavement. For many Japanese, this sound evokes memories of summer festivals, fireworks,
and old streets. The cost is around ¥12,000, USD80. Some modern versions are redesigned
for comfort and even worn casually as a mix of tradition and fashion. So, highly recommended!
No.9 Towel. A collagen towel is a Japanese beauty and
skincare towel infused with collagen, a protein well known for supporting healthy, useful
skin. When you wash or wipe your face with it, the towel gently transfers collagen to your
skin, helping to keep it soft and moisturized. It has skin friendly benefits, so it’s gentle on
the skin even for sensitive types and helps lock in moisture, promotes a smooth and refreshed
feeling after use. The cost is around ¥1,000, USD7. Towels are lightweight, easy to pack, so
they make a unique gift for anyone interested in Japanese skincare culture, Ithink!
No.10 Japanese Pickeles Japanese pickles are common rice accompaniment in
Japan. Very salty and flavorful taste are keys to popularity and Kyoto is well-known city. So you
can get the Tsukemono which only you can get here. These items Kyoto Shibazuke and Suguki pickeles
you can get them only here. So, please get them. The cost is ¥300, USD2. You can enjoy hard
and unique texture and salty and fresh flavor. Okay, that’s the end of my video. If you
