Hello! Today, I’ll be walking around the Sakae area of Nagoya. Sakae is the central business district of Nagoya City and one of Japan’s leading commercial areas. Sakaechika, an underground shopping mall, stretches underground. Directly connected to the subway station, it’s a convenient space lined with numerous commercial facilities and restaurants. Directly connected to the underground shopping mall is the futuristic Oasis 21. The rooftop space, known as the “Water Spaceship,” is one of Nagoya’s landmarks. This is Hisaya Odori Park. Developed around the Nagoya TV Tower, it’s a popular spot for residents and tourists. At the Nishikidori-Otsu intersection, where Nishikidori and Otsudori intersect, stands Sunshine Sakae’s Skyboat Ferris wheel. It’s lit up at night, adding a vibrant touch to the Sakae district. Heading west past the Ferris wheel, you’ll reach Nishikidori-Isemachi Intersection, a key transportation hub connecting Sakae’s downtown. Sunshine Sakae is a commercial complex featuring restaurants, amusement facilities, and shops, and its Skyboat Ferris wheel is directly attached to the building’s exterior. Sakae Intersection (Hirokoji-dori x Otsu-dori) is the heart of the Sakae district and an iconic intersection in Nagoya’s bustling downtown area. Surrounded by department stores and commercial facilities, the area is bustling with pedestrians and vehicles. Surrounding department stores like Mitsukoshi and Matsuzakaya, as well as the newly opened Maruei Galleria, are bustling with people shopping and dining. Princess Boulevard is Nagoya’s premier nightlife area. From Nishiki-dori Isemachi Intersection again, we pass Nishiki-dori Otsu Intersection, home to the Ferris wheel and Sunshine Sakae, before heading to Sakae Intersection, the heart of the downtown area. Sakae Intersection is bathed in the magic hour of dusk. As the city lights gradually brighten, transforming from daytime bustle to nighttime splendor, we head toward Hisaya Odori Park. At the most beautiful hour of the magic hour, we walk from south to north through Hisaya Odori Park, heading toward the illuminated TV tower. Hisaya-odori Park, an urban park in the Sakae district of central Nagoya, was originally created by renovating the streets of the castle town during the Edo period. Its current form was established in the 1960s as a space for relaxation connecting Sakae’s commercial district with the TV Tower. The park features green spaces and a fountain plaza, and is frequently used for seasonal events, markets, and music festivals, making it a Nagoya landmark attracting both locals and tourists. It’s a place for strolling and relaxing during the day, and at night, the illuminated TV Tower and cityscape symbolize the charm of Sakae. Hisaya-odori Park, located just below Nagoya TV Tower, is a new commercial area renovated in 2020. The park and commercial facilities are integrated, lining the streets with restaurants, cafes, and select shops, attracting many visitors. This area, where you can enjoy shopping and dining amidst lush greenery, is vibrant both day and night, adding a new charm to Sakae. So, everyone, let’s take a leisurely walk together from in front of Mitsukoshi at Sakae intersection through Sakae, Nagoya’s busiest shopping district, taking in the sounds of the city, the people coming and going, the signs and neon lights, and the atmosphere as it is!

撮影日は8月の頭でしょうか？ 猛暑の中の散策お疲れ様でした m(_)m
26:10の「栄」のランドマークとして親しまれている「オアシス21」ですが、随分とコスプレ姿の若者たちが目に付きますね。
どうやら当日「世界コスプレサミット2025」がこの界隈で催されていたようです。
37:39の「久屋大通公園」にもイベントスペースが目に付きます。実に令和の時代らしい若さ溢れる賑々しい光景ですね。
残念ながら「コスプレ」は昭和の時代には無かった趣味の文化でして、その時代に（コスプレ=仮装）で私が個人的に思い起こすのは、いにしえの「チンドン屋さん」ですね。
私の幼少期（半世紀以上昔）にはまだギリギリ存在されていて、ド派手な衣装を纏って笛や太鼓を叩きつつ騒々しくも広告宣伝を行うエキセントリックなパフォーマンス集団でした。
当時「パチンコ新店」や「ストリップ劇場」やらの宣伝で渡辺通りや春吉付近を練り歩いてる姿をたびたび見かけ、幼心に強烈なインパクトを植えつけられたものでした。。。
またまた脱線話でスイマセン m(._.)m
今や日本が世界に誇るポップカルチャーである「コスプレ」と絶滅種ともいえる伝説的職業の「チンドン屋さん」との対比にはあまりにも無理がありすぎました（笑）
38:13の「MIRAI TOWER」は栄における古くからのランドマークですね。
竣工は「東京タワー」の4年先輩で、なんと今年御年71歳！
竣工時は「東洋のエッフェル塔」という優美なネーミングも授けられる人気スポットでした。
昭和キッズの私にとっては、この「名古屋テレビ塔（当時の呼称）」は「名古屋城」以上の「名古屋の象徴的存在」でした。
と申しますのも1964年封切りの東宝映画「モスラVSゴジラ」の作中にて、名古屋に来襲したゴジラが同塔を尻尾で派手に破壊するシーンがインパクト大であったからです。（もちろん後々のシーンで名古屋城もぶっ壊されましたが《笑》）
1:24:40のライトアップされた外観はなんと美しいのでしょう！
やはり、私にとっての「名古屋の象徴」は同塔で今も揺るぎませんね。。。
54:46の「サンシャイン栄」も有名人気スポットですね。今から20年前（2005年）に当施設が出来たての頃来館したことがあります。
当時、2Ｆが「名古屋麺屋横丁」という昭和30年代をモチーフにしたテーマパークになってまして、当エリアの「博多秀ら～」にて絶品のとんこつラーメンを食した思い出があります。
残念ながら2Ｆの当横丁は数年後に閉所となり、代わりに2008年からはあの有名な「SKE48」の劇場公演の拠点となり現在に至ります。
「あのラーメン横丁がこんなんなっちゃったの？」とニュースで知って驚かされたものでした（笑）
同グループはあえて「名古屋」ではなく、より限定的な活動拠点地である「栄」を冠にすることによって（栄=SKE）「栄」の知名度を全国的に広める貢献もなされたようです。我が福岡の「HKT48」のお姉さんグループとしてこれからも第一線でのご活躍を期待したいですね。
「中日ビル」や「地下街」も語りたかったのですが、長くなりそうなのでこの辺で。

The green scenery of Hisaya-Odori Park felt like a real oasis in the middle of the city. In the evening, the soft glow of the sunset, the illuminated TV Tower, and the shimmering reflections on the water added a touch of charm and elegance to the park.✨
For foreigners like me, Sakae, while not as famous as districts in bigger Japanese cities, showed its own charm as seen in the video. The wide walkways, moderate heights buildings, lively streets, many major department stores and comfortable crowd size made it feel relaxing. Hosting the World Cosplay Summit would surely helped put Sakae on the map for international visitors.
