私はインドネシアの死の部族と一緒に暮らしました🇮🇩
And we kept my grandpa for 5 years In Toaja, people live with the dead for years more than 20 years To hold the funeral, you need to sacrifice 24 buffaloos Until then, the body is considered just sick Finally together Here, death is not the end It’s only the beginning They don’t know yet I traveled to Sulavvesi, an island in the end of the world to understand this unique culture This is like one family Yeah, they sacrifice human in the funeral ceremony Hello and welcome to my channel I’m back in Indonesia. I was away for a while I missed all the protests. Maybe that’s better But of course, I stand for Indonesian people I’m in Jakarta in the airport, and we are flying to Makassar Have a free games station on the airport This is domestic flights in Indonesia, surrounded by the park I will be going to Toraja and it’s a long journey Very excited It’s pretty chilled Sulawesi! Traffic as always Hello Gojek ok ? Oh, it’s okay Okay. Okay. Mr. Michael Thank you You need help? So, I got extra big seat next to the emergency exit We are already high, and I am still Jetlagged for the flight with the big luggage, I paid only 1 million Oh my god, I’m a foreigner. So, they didn’t put the chili inside of
my Indomie They don’t know me yet Okay, let’s check if they have Gojek in Makassar So this is a Sulawesi Island, and we are in the biggest city, Makassar This is the capital It’s pretty big. I’m walking for like 10 minutes now What? This looks like one of those metro stations in China Another one And another one Where is the flag of Poland? already getting a recommendations for Sulawesi This is where I’m going maybe later But most important, my skateboard Hello Makassar Taxi? No, no, I am with Gojek Can I order motor or car? Vehicle that allowed in here is only with car. Ah And where can I order the motor? You can walk till outside and then you order right there In the airports they are not allowing the
motors, and I prefer the motors Oh So, the exit from the airport by walking, it’s a little bit… Yeah this is what I like Basically, it’s the same money by taking a car I’m loyal to my GOJEK drivers brothers He’s not moving. Maybe I need to walk more I’m wet already I don’t think that they have an exit for people Yeah. Can I? Thank you And the GOJEK app showed me 1 kilometer less. So I walked a bit Gojek! I’m gojek Jakarta You Gojek Makassar? Nice to meet you Oh sorry, yeah Yes The driver recommend me to eat choto Makassar. The famous food from here And this city is huge. 1.5 million people lives here Apparently the traffic is same like in Jakarta This is what I know from him Respect. Thank you so much. Thank you. My room 609, 69 coincidence? Yes Okay. One thing. So it was very difficult to rent
a motorcycle in Makassar I mean there are a lot of stores which have scooters but if you
want to rent a cross type, trial, it is almost impossible I was about to give up but my friend recommended me someone who is from here, and this guy actually has a motorcycle I’m supposed to meet him soon I don’t know which bike. I don’t know how much. Yeah, this is how I operate sometimes Let’s see the famous Chotto This is a heart, tongue Oh Okay I like your reaction Okay. So, chotto apparently is some kind of,
you know, insides So, maybe stomachs, hearts, stuff like that I’m not a big fan, but I’m in Makassar. I need to try I like this one Oh my god Inside there is a rice like Onigiri First time try chotto Traditional food from Makassar Okay. Not so strong taste. I I thought it’s more strong Oh, it’s good Uh you okay? Little spicy. Not so much I survived chotto Saraba is a traditional drink from Makassar Ginger. Yeah? And lime? maybe. Yeah. Let’s try it Wow. Strong taste Reminds me a little bit of the Indian tea This is the meeting about my motorcycle and trip in Sulwesi It’s 11:30 and we are getting a helmet and I think I will have a bike Goodbye my money Guys, this is crazy Look, it’s midnight already and I got this bike I don’t know where to start at I met with the guys 3 hours talking, planning my trip and they rent me without any contract, without any documents I paid cash 250k per day, 4 million for 16 days Still no deposit. Uh they only know my YouTube channel I don’t know. Tell me what do you think about it in the comments Crazy. Uh, I need to sleep. See you tomorrow Not good Not the best start of the trip Cannot find anything to eat And it’s already 30 minutes I’m looking That’s my breakfast In Poland, we have 7 days This breakfast really sucks So, I don’t know if it was the ginger tea, but I couldn’t sleep until maybe 4:00 a.m. I slept less than four hours I’m hot, but I think he’s more hot I arrived in Pantai Losari I think it’s the most famous landmark from this city, Makassar That’s just epic. I’m having a heat stroke. I drove 30 minutes so far and yeah, it’s hard So, I’m wearing double protection, my ordinary motorcycle jacket plus the Gojek jacket. So, all the Gojek brothers will protect me
here in Indonesia Only 7 hours 17 minutes drive. Let’s go I think I will buy those gloves because
they fit my jacket Good So, I just stopped in this Rocco place called Dangi I have no idea what is it but I want to try Okay. Too big this bike This one maybe something from the rice It’s sweet like a mochi and it’s pretty good It looks like a burger, but it’s not. It’s very sweet and
it’s like a snack I ate the whole box. I’m still hungry. Ow Yeah. This thing just bit me Yeah Ah Got inside my jacket and bit me. What a day No My hand was little bit numb but now it’s
better But unfortunately I almost lost my phone and I broke my screen Another broken screen Actually in damn India they took my tape So I don’t have a basic tool to fix things now So I had to go to the mechanic I’m originally from here but before I work into American company. Okay I speak English That is amazing Very nice 20 years stay in Saudi Arabia. Wow Technical contest You’re the best employee? Yeah, I’m the best. Then uh they invite
me to come to Japan You like Japan? Oh, it’s nice It’s nice Very clean I miss everyday What about Indonesia? It’s don’t talk about I’m ashamed I love Indonesia Are you alone? Yes Why you still single? Still single Single? Single Oh. How old are you? Oh. Old Already! Should be 25. Uhhuh. Married No Oh Thank you mom Nice. Nice. Nice. Thank you so much. Thank you They saved me 50,000. Very nice price. Let’s continue I think I passed by more than thousand
mosques today already Within 100 m is always at least three Louis Vuitton mattress Indonesia! I don’t know why they are in the middle of the road For sure it’s not safe So this one looks a little bit like north of Thailand And yeah this is what I have to deal with all the…. Many traps like this all the time Driving is a little bit wild here Hi somebody is sleeping Can I eat? Uh, okay. You were there sleeping? Yes coffee. Oh maybe I’m the first customer today I’m going to the death village, but I hope I will not become one of them on the way So this is the backyard of the restaurant We are actually very deep in the jungle Yes. Yes. They have a water The lizard scared me I thought it’s a spider or… they also have scorpions here It is the hustle to get to that village and
especially for me today Really What? Amazing It is 5:30. Two more hours and for the first
time today I’m not feeling hungry I can welcome to Tana Toraja So number one rule the owner
told me – don’t drive in the night in Sulawesi one more hour Welcome 30 more minutes Well, I could tell you a very long story about how tired I am but you can also just look at my face Even if I wasn’t tired, I would say that road was very difficult So, getting here took me two days, but I’m pretty
sure it will be worth it My room, day three $9 for the bed and the breakfast So, actually in this place, it’s better to have a guide You will need somebody to show you around Yeah. And this is where I live in the middle of the jungle My name is Natalia. Very nice to meet you Today we will go to funeral ceremony Expensive and elaborate funeral ceremony What are those houses? Traditional house of Toraja We call it Tongkonan In the front of the Tongkonan are rice storage Why they shape like that? Torajan people before Christianity arrived in Toraja They practice old belief system. We call it Aluktoolo We claim ourself as a people from the sky The shape of the roof of the house, Describe about where we came from that we came from the sky from the
north came to this earth when we die, we go to the south go back to the sky it’s describe about the Torajan circle of life wow so are you also Torajan? yes you can see my face part of the crew? Do you have a Gojek here in this city? What city are we in? uh now we are in Rantepao I think now we have Gojek, but the most popular one here we have “drive” so I will be special one here especially you are “Bule” the people who lives here are called Torajan and there are only around 1 million of those people in Indonesia, and maybe around the world Yeah, it’s kind of big There are many villages and we are going to explore Even I saw the houses like that in Makassar Town Square Yeah. City center You have Italian flag on your helmet Yes My friend Michelle Ponte is Italian and he got malaria when he was in Africa Yeah. There is no malaria here I was beaten three times by the mosquito yesterda . We just have dangu here The buffaloos here are a big thing But apparently the one with the blue eye, the white one is the most expensive one We need to investigate Uh he’s one of the hero from Toraja who fought in the past with Dutch So you like the Dutch now or not? Oh, nowadays he’s okay And before? so so yeah, not really So is it okay for Torajan people
to marry somebody who is not Torajan? Oh yes, as long as the man or the woman from abroad, want
to follow the tradition here already I can smell the buffaloos The buffalo market here still open every day So if someone need buffalo for funeral, they can come here But you need to pay in cash And you’ll have to be careful, especially when you have a white shoes. Yeah we call it BS…. cash only Cash is king in Indonesia still Yes Do you have a lot of cash with you? We need to buy buffalo. No, I have 200k Oh, only 200 That’s so sad Maybe that’s why I’m still single I have never seen something like that before So, it’s a shower time for buffaloos? So, we give them shower twice a day So, you take a good care of them? Yes, for sure. Because they expensive. They are the most important thing for us Are they aggressive towards people? Uh nowadays they are not aggressive because most of
the buffalo that you see here, they stay here domesticated but we pet them we uh treat them like a baby That’s why they listen to us walking It is amazing You know, after shower, they give them breakfast and after that they need to drink much water So, they have a good life in here Yes Until they don’t Yeah. Until we uh sacrifice them in the funeral They don’t know yet It is kind of amazing that they are so chilled Blue eyes Normal one uh maybe one year old, 19 millions Wow There are many types. Yeah. And this one is the fighter, the big one We held bull fight the most expensive one 700 millions 700 million rupiah? Even more So that’s more than few houses Yes This is insane that the most expensive buffalo can cost 42,000 American dollars What about the chicken? We need it for chicken fighting It’s illegal. It is not related to funeral You have an excuse.
When is the funeral, you can do the fights And the animal lovers, they are not a big fan
of Toraja A white spotted buffalo with blue eyes and yellow horn. We call it Saleko We have albino face. We call it Bonga I cannot meet you now Oh, I have to take care of my family. My cow and
my buffalo This one is looking most of them are males Uh we also sacrifice female only one a female and the rest male How many you sacrifice in total? For high class people, the standard of the buffalo are about 24 buffaloos And for people who doesn’t have so
much money? uh so it depends Uh can be five? It depends. Yeah. Yeah But nowadays uh people um sacrifice many buffaloos in the funeral. More than standard 100, 200 or more than 200. 200 buffalo? for one funeral? for one person who died? They use it to compete each other.
you know there will be our transportation to the afterlife That’s why we need to sacrifice several different types of the buffalo to make our trip to the afterlife easier But you are Christian technically still? I’m Christian, but we still sacrifice buffalo nowadays Uh but now we change the meaning We need to say buffalo will not be my transportation to afterlife anymore officially But nowadays we use it to share the food, the meat to people Uh Christianity teach us to share to people Officially it’s not for the transportation anymore But yeah, somebody sacrificing 200 buffaloos and showing – Look – this is my right to heaven That’s swagging So many different types. Oh but you see that one horn is up and the other one
is down I told you this is the biggest buffalo market in the world You’re sleeping here? Nice. Guarding the buffaloos The buffalo it’s little bit spoiled It has a better life than I do Yeah We cut the hair. We give the massage with coconut oil They let me feed the buffalo Just have to put inside 85 million. Not so expensive Albino Oh He is camera shy I really love the vibes here Dangdut. My favorite music from Indonesia It feels like we are in the middle of the village, but actually this is a city center And they even let me wash this one Okay And now you stay here working, taking care of the buffalo I could I could. You know me Grandpa said you’re really good Oh, Thank You They also have a pig center here And this is how they transport it Just on the scooter please. drive safe So you also sacrifice the pigs? we normally bring uh pigs to the funeral ceremony as donation to the family How much is one pig? Uh 1 m long You buy by meters? Yeah. We need to know how long is about 5 million Expensive. Expensive funeral not looking for girl yeah? Because we are expensive. More expensive than buffalo If I marry to Torajan girl, and if her grandmother dies, I will spend all my money and I will have to take a loan You need to participate Maybe no Torajan girls for me? Chilling sweet potato leaf we give it to the pig as a food Oh, he’s eating We normally go by truck, because it fit for not only people, but also our donation to the funeral, like pig Go using this truck Salama Jalan. Salamat So, normally maybe I would talk with some girls on the street here but after you told me about the costs of the funeral I will just refuse I will not say hello to any pretty girl here This is the wine, right? I think it’s from the rice field Oh, still alive The place is nice Very good. Uh, this one jacket. I like it Gojek Only 5,000 rupia You are beautiful, but Bye-bye Not talking to the girls. Number one rule in Toraja dry tobacco make you relax That is a chalk to make your mouth more red when we chewy all of the things together, to make you
beautiful Local beauty salon Kind of Okay. So, this one is the most spicy chili from Toraja Can I try one? You can try, but I have no guarantee No? Not spicy but one is enough Okay, now You are crying You made me crying in Toraja I’m tripping I had to take a rest for a few minutes Okay. Apparently sugar will make me feel better Oh, so after spicy also you should eat
orange, right? I’m crying I didn’t expect that work? Work this one. No So we need to bring donation to the family I need to buy the big pack of cigarettes We normally bring buffalo or pig, but… uh I’m a foreigner who doesn’t have
much money Expensive And now let’s go to the funeral The most expensive one in the
world Taking a break from the helmet. Sorry He is trying to poison us The buffalo doesn’t have too much problems, but I always have So now the gasoline is leaking The bike is losing the power Take off the Gojek, It will be hot So now I have to change for the traditional
clothes for the funeral? The shirt you mean? Yes. Everything Not everything. Anyway so yeah, I’m wearing traditional clothes for the funeral But I’m keeping my Gojek identity Did you see ever Gojek like this? Never And in Indonesia, 5-year-old can drive already Hello. Hi So here is the official government station Later the owners will pay the tax for the donations we already paid the tax for the cigarettes But if we buy the pig? you need to pay the tax. Oh my god Those are the big houses So I cannot wear the Gojek, because it’s bright
color and it’s disrespectful Yeah The pig doesn’t want to go for sure So, we are in the chill zone We will have a lunch right now. And those are the plates She’s so kind. She washed everybody’s hands This is the women’s job, we need to serve Uh, yeah. Try to say that in the western world 1 kilo? I’m on the diet You want pork satai? Yes, please This is crispy pork But maybe you don’t need egg anymore I I want one egg, please Because you already have what? Okay. But where are the spoons and forks? You use your hand So today is the day. Yeah. I will eat like the locals So good At the end, you wash your hand here and use your plate as a tissue Right. So the party is pretty big Around 700 people will attend today All of those houses are temporary buildings for this ceremony They build it to hold the guests like me, from Poland What is very interesting for me is that the
food was free. So everything we got here, it is bought by the family. So they are very kind And here this place is for the VIP Oh, they take the coffin already This is the most important building the government people, the chief of the village, the closest family, they stay here And now they remove the body from the rice storage to the special building So the one behind me is one of the most expensive
buffaloos and it’s around 500 million rupia Now they are going to perform a funeral ceremony dance We call it Mabado So the family provides a lot, including
the t-shirts of the person who died and you can see the big photo of him
over there So now it’s a good time to give the gift to the family to
show the respect and the condolences She is the aunt of the men who died Oh, I’m very sorry for your loss Oh, thank you. Thank you. Thank you How much is the total cost of this ceremony? It’s quite a lot Three Billions Three billions Maybe So, I became the official warrior of Indonesia This one, maybe approximately 3 billion rupia. Maybe more The poor thing So, those are all donations 700 people here It’s Monday. They are not working? Oh, we can ask permission as long as people, you know So, I I can say my ex-girlfriend’s uncle Yeah So now the family is coming to the main room and
they separated the guests Women on this side, men on the other side The family will give the gifts to them Men will give cigarettes and women will give fruits and snacks Traditionally, it’s not good for women in Toraja to smoke cigarettes So only the most important people are
invited in that house Now the most beautiful woman from this community
are going to serve coffee and tea They are marking the buffaloos and the
pigs Every animal has a sign so they know which family donated to the funeral He is nice. He’s giving the take the water Thank you So now the other guests are entering
and it’s going to be like many groups So how many days this ceremony will last? Few days So the donation system here is very complex They are writing down all the families who donated If this family gave me a pig, I need to return it But it’s not so strict. So maybe you can return
it 10 years later in the different ceremony This is how they create bounds and relations in those
communities So we already know that this family will sacrifice more than 24 buffaloos They will not sacrifice all of the buffalo Some of the buffalo they will keep it alive So they will auction the buffalo, and the money will go to the community, and goes to the church to say thank you Many things. So it’s like a one big circle Yeah. Everybody is supporting each other. Yeah So, but you told me that before they didn’t only sacrifice buffaloos? Yeah Who did they sacrifice? In the past, Torajan people, especially in the south area, they sacrifice human in the funeral ceremony If the person who die came from high class and has high position in the village Yeah. But nowadays we stop doing that But who are the people who were sacrificing? If they were enemy, they will kidnap random people random people they walk to the mountain and kidnap random people they can use so they were hunting the people in the mountains? yeah, but nowadays we are not allowed to sacrifice human anymore yeah, so fortunately they don’t sacrifice people here anymore but now they will sacrifice this very expensive buffalo to be honest, I don’t want to see it, I don’t think it’s necessary for me to be there and for you to watch it so let’s go to the next location also when they sacrifice the first buffalo, the status
of the person changes He was sick, and when they sacrificed the buffalo, he is considered officially dead The gas cannot come up Really time consuming, because now they will clean
it, and it will take 3 hours part of the journey Oh my god. So I’m forced to be a passenger But I have to say that’s a great service. You’re very helpful You need to pay me with buffalo It’s starting, Torajan woman ! last time I was the passenger of the woman,
It didn’t go well Uh, one Torajano, please Clean is not only healthy and beautiful,
but also not dirty A wisdom of the toilet Wow Kurre this is how you say thank you in Toraja The bakso from Toraja is different from the rest of Indonesia because here actually the meatballs are made out of pork because majority is Christian, right? Yes It has to be adjusted All of that was inside of my tank. Crazy. Tomorrow I want to continue and tell you more about the sick people from that village And this is the wasp bite from 2 days ago. Still hurts So imagine if a snake bites you here So I talked to the master, the owner of my guest house and he told me in Toraja, man has to confess
the love to the woman first Yes, because we are expensive and also he told me that there is a lot of cheating in in Toraja because the divorce is very expensive. Is that true? Uh not many cheating here Okay, we have a different perspective then Not many cheating because they’re scared because in our marriage we need to make a contract We need to deal on the amount of the buffaloos It depends on the class. For example, if I marry him Yeah. Promise together. If one of us cheat, we need to pay So, it’s better not to cheat or you have to be very clever if you
want to cheat I will stay loyal and then the men will pay me That is probably also the most expensive cheating insurance in the world Toraja is not a cheap place. Trust me my husband in the future they will not able to cheat on me Why? Because I will make my own standard, 100 buffaloos Now, we are in Londa cave, grave So on the top there are “buried” people from the high class and down? they came from lower class And what about those statues? We call it Tau Tau The representative of the people who die but not all people can have it So only people from high class, only rich people 24 buffalo can have the Tau Tau If only 23 you, cannot have it A very unique graveyard This is like one family So they put the coffins next to each other This graveyard is very hot Oh my god So there is the skulls of grandpa So many offerings they put it here Cigarettes. Cigarette. Money. Money That grandpa when he was alive he smoke a lot as every man in Indonesia That’s why when they enter they
always give him offering. Cigarette or money Why is his skull outside of the coffin? Because the coffin of him uh broken already What if some crazy tourist will come here and take the money? Oh, so the we believe that the person will be following by not only the ghost but the bad fortune So you should never take the money Never take anything from the grave. Yeah Remember when you visit So the two skulls down there are Romeo and Juliet from Toraja They love each other but they didn’t get any permission to get married from their parents? Yeah. Because they are still first cousin I mean first cousin is not allowed third uh I think it’s maybe okay. Yeah. Yeah So in 1972 they decided to…. themselves together So when they die, the family decided to put them
together finally together So also those clothes are here because when Torajan people die, you just put all the belongings next to the body, next to the coffin, or inside right? Inside the coffin like a woman has 100 pairs of shoes? Uh, so all of the things will not be fit inside the coffin So we can put it outside like here Yeah. You have no phobia, right? With the narrow place For sure,If you have a claustrophobi, this graveyard is not for you Oh my god And imagine you’re a 100-year-old grandmother and you want to visit your husband’s grave Pretty extreme This is all mud and everything is very slippery, you know Who made the idea to make a graveyard in the cave, and why? Our ancestor they want to uh protect the body and the things belong to the people who died from what? From animals from people So from time to time they change it with hanging grave like in
the front better Look there are so many skulls But do the family members, do they know who is
who? I think they don’t recognize it anymore And of course, you shouldn’t touch the.. No, it’s very disrespectful. And if you want to remove something, the skulls or the bones, you need to make a ritual first At least you sacrifice an animal the best way when you travel and you visit, don’t play
around. Don’t touch anything. Don’t It was the best trip in my life. Thank you So, the entrance to the cave is here. But if you are extremely filthy rich, you will have your grave here We cannot visited them, because we cannot climb up So we just uh put the offering somewhere down
there You take the woman on the first date just here and you say, “Look, this is my grandfather.” That’s it. You don’t need to say no more And here by the graveyard, there is a man who’s making
those statues And normally they are made from the jackf fruit tree And of course depending on the budget you can have a small figure or a big one We are friends How much is this beautiful green liquid? 12k so we drove one more hour. We are very deep in
the jungle in the forest And now I’m going to show you something probably the most unique from this whole trip think which is maybe the most unique for western people Uncle and grandma, she passed away around 5 years ago and they are in the house. They are in the house and they are considered sick in this culture not dead So this is the special room to keep the sick
people in the house The Thonkonan has three room front, middle and back So when you have a family a member die, but you still need to wait for the funeral ceremony So during period will be called “sick people” or “sick person”, Tomakula We need to place the bodies here Some of the family they still serve food twice a day Uh join with them when they are going to have breakfast or
lunch So the family need to pretended that they are just sick, feeling unwell talk with them. So before we enter we have to say hello Yeah we say hello. I introduce myself then we kept my grandpa for 5 years And did you also talk with him? I talk with him. I even clean the face I sometimes make jokes with my grandpa, and I say: grandpa now your face is quite dusty Now I need to clean it Oh, I also serve like um beer A beer because my grandpa when he was alive, he’s like a beer lover Bintang? Bintang But don’t worry, you already have your favorite drink Yeah. Her grandpa was
just like me before. Beer lover Excuse me. Okay Wow You can also give grandpa cigarette and I give for the grandfather the cigarette here so he can smoke Yeah. Only in Toraja we can kept the body in the house Even in Indonesia you cannot kept the body in the house Is it a crime or..? uh kind of exception for Torajan, because the government know this is a part of the tradition, and this is one of the unique culture in the world The way they preserve the body they inject
it formal the high Yeah. Formaline some people uh in the village they mix it they use any kind of leave kind of herbs They also use vinegar to preserve the body Something very different than the cultures I know Wow. Uh very very very strange unique experience for me I mean, only person who I saw dead, was my dad, and I saw him for like 5 minutes before the funeral It reminded me of that time The reason why they keep the body
so long because you know, sometimes somebody you love died, and then everything happens so fast You need to fix the funeral. You have to arrange this and that But here they have a time to prepare it properly And also this is the way how they deal with the
sadness, little by littl . Riding the bull, fighter. Yeah Wow. They say I can touch the bull Wow. You watching Tik Tok? Yeah What is the longest period that somebody can be
sick and be in the house? More than 20 years Maybe there is another family more than that More than 20, maybe 30 So also in the time when the person is sick, it’s a time for family to fix all his things Let’s say if somebody has a debt, you have to pay it Also, this is the time for forgiveness If you had a bad relation with the family member, now is the time to say sorry now is the time to say all the things you couldn’t say while the person wasn’t still sick And you know, in the western culture, the death, it is something taboo But here living with
somebody who is sick is just a part of your daily activities Oh my god. Torajan nasi goreng. She bought me the souvenirs from Toraja I will give it to my mom That is too much. Too much So this place is very unique but is also huge and there are many things you would never have a chance to explore without a guide That’s why I can honestly recommend Natalia,
which is the best person Thank you so much for your help I’m leaving a direct WhatsApp number to Natalia so you can just contact her and she can make the best tour for you I think I deserve the bintang after that (0%) It was amazing 4 days, and this funeral ceremony is probably
the most unique in the world I was laughing, making jokes on the day of the ceremony because so were the locals Natalia told me that that day wasn’t the day to be sad The sad day is the last day of the funeral Still few days from now It was very challenging for me. I’m super tired So now, finally, I will rest And of course, it took a lot of time, effort, and money So, if you enjoyed this video, I will really appreciate your like, comment, and subscription See you in the next video from Indonesia.
Lived with the Death Tribe of Indonesia!
I traveled across Indonesia to explore the mysterious Toraja Death Tribe — a community in Tana Toraja, Sulawesi, where living with dead bodies is part of everyday life. These unique Toraja traditions are among the most fascinating and spiritual rituals in the world.
I began my journey in Jakarta, then flew to Makassar, and drove into the mountains of Tana Toraja — home to the people who live with the dead. Here, families keep their loved ones’ bodies at home for weeks, months, or even years, until they can afford the grand Toraja funeral ceremony, often called the most expensive funeral in the world.
During my visit to Sulawesi, Indonesia, I witnessed how buffalos are sacrificed as part of these ancient rituals — sometimes up to 24 buffalos per ceremony. In Rantepao, I explored the largest buffalo market in Indonesia, where funeral preparations begin.
This video takes you inside the real life of the Toraja Death Tribe in Sulawesi, Indonesia, revealing their deep spiritual beliefs, unique culture, and extraordinary connection between life and death — one of the most astonishing traditions in the world.

I love Toraja care for Decease family. But i disagree killing animal buffalo or pig hv Rights to live just like cat or dog.
Keren banget
im your fans im from indonesia, your video is fireee can u say hi to me?? ❤
Awesome presentation! To say the very least, this was one very educational video. I knew nothing about the Toraja culture, and actually never heard of it until now. I myself could never assimilate into this culture. No way I’m keeping a dead body in my house for even one day! That of course is my culture talking, and yet I respect these people for their beliefs. Having Natalia as your tour guide was spot on with her knowledge and positivity throughout your time spent with her. There was so much to learn here, so I will watch the video again, and catch what I missed. Just two things you encountered here that I would avoid myself. Going into the cave, and that very first meal you ate. That reminded me of your friend Michele Ponte! Awesome job once again by the Homeless Pelican! 🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆

When you go to Aceh, there are lots of interesting places, don't forget to go to Sabang to see wild dolphins.
Bro still ask what people doing on the middle of the road, btw they just wait for donations something like thats, and a bit of all there's no trap on the road its just an government renovation but never done maybe yet and thats what we say as the most public government broke in Indonesian

Świetny odcinek, nie wiem jak na ciebie trafiłem, ale już mi się podoba.
31:05 Torajan bakso wasn’t changed – it’s the rest of Indonesia that switched from pork after Islam spread. You’re eating the OG version

for your Video. 🙏🙏👍👍
#Toraja people,
mostly they are
#Christians (#Kristen). ✝️☦️✝️
Look at 👉 6:08,
I saw #FutureTrunks there. 👁👁
Interesting culture but I don't understand how they don't allow you to marry your first cousin when animal sacrifice is allowed. In my culture, you can still marry your first cousin but most people don't do that nowadays. My paternal great-grandparents were first cousins from Russia. I wasn't aware there were any Christians in Indonesia though. I thought it was majority a Muslim country and then a small minority of Hindus in Bali.
bro really loves that gojek jacket still wearing it after weeks 😭
bro at this point GoTo should have pay you for all these free promotion 😆
nicee, you are going viral if u keep doing antimainstream things. maybe go to gunung lawu, and find "mystical market" atau pasar ghaib heheh, it was popular but not many dare enough to prove it

Wonderful video! I've travelled in 20 countries, Indonesian and Thai people are my favourite ppl on this planet, so warm and kind 💓 Western life so cold, secular and culture-less in comparison
