Air temperature -10.3°C / 13.46°F With best New Year’s wishes. This time, I walk the atmosphere of “Hatsumode” on January 1st at two major shrines in Asahikawa: Gokoku Shrine and Kamikawa Shrine. Hatsumoude is the first shrine visit of the New Year. Some people visit not on the morning of January 1st but right at the moment the date changes. However, since the midnight hours in Asahikawa were extremely cold again this year, I decided to visit during the day. During the busy days of Hatsumode at the shrine, stalls offering amazake and warm snacks are set up. Enjoying food and drink in the chilly weather amidst the snowy scenery is highly recommended. Not only snacks like takoyaki or corn dog, it seems they also sell Stewed offal. Kamikawa-jinja Shrine To be honest, I’m quite out of breath… Votive pictures “Ema” are wooden plaques that people write their prayers or wishes on. I found it very Curious that there was no sign on the path everyone was taking on their way back, but the direction no one was heading in had a sign saying ‘Exit.’ On this way, there are several well-placed signs politely indicating the ‘exit’. This path leads to the adjacent Kaguraoka Park. I feel like I just took a longer detour…
