Nature escape to Miyazaki, Japan | Unique train rides, Takachiho Gorge, Aoshima | Japan VLOG
Hi everyone, this week we’re headed to Miyazaki prefecture which is located in the South east part of Kyushu Miyazaki is one of the best places to enjoy Japan’s nature the prefecture is surround by both the coast and mountain ranges today we’re headed to the northern parts Miyazaki Takachiho Gorge is one of Kyushu’s most famous natural attractions the gorge was formed over 100,000 years ago after eruptions from volcano Mt. Aso along the gorge is this 17 meter high Minainotaki waterfall let’s go get a closer look from below rental boats are available, so you can enjoy the view down the river the route takes you right to the base of the waterfall If you do want to rent a boat, it’s best to make reservations in advance the view is absolutely worth it looks so dreamy you get around 30 minutes on the boat, which was just enough time to enjoy the views leisurely this restaurant is a popular local spot for soba I got the set with a grated yam rice bowl the soba is made with 100% buckwheat which has a unique texture you can arrange a guided tour to visit the cave with a priest they also hold special Kagura performances here in November the cave is just a couple of minutes walk from here the path is down this lovely river look how clear the water is near the foot of the cave you can find these piles of stones which were stacked by previous visitors the main cave, Amanoiwato, is considered sacred and cannot be entered however you can enter this second cave which is where the gods are said to have held their meeting let’s head to our next spot if you’re planning to travel Miyazaki without a car there is a ‘Visit Miyazaki bus pass’ that can take you too all these areas (I’ll leave links in the description) next we’ll be going on this open air sightseeing train which runs along a short section of the old Takachiho Line the train runs about every 40 minutes there was still had a bit of time before our train so we’re here to check out the railway museum inside there’s a miniature railway model showing the line and local landscape everything is in such detail you can even step inside the preserved passenger cars getting a feel for what it was like to travel here before the line closed the ride is a 5.1 km round trip that takes you over the Takachiho Bridge which is Japan’s highest railway bridge at at 105 meters it takes about 30 minutes and you and enjoy the changing scenery along the way as you approach the bridge the train slowly comes to a stop where you can get this panoramic view I wasn’t expecting this bubble event but it looked so pretty with the landscape I imagine the views in autumn would be spectacular time to head back tonights menu is Miyazaki beef Miyazaki is one of the largest producers of wagyu Miyazaki beef that come from a special cattle called “Kuroge Wagyu” (Japanese Black Beef) you can see how good it is from the marbling of the fat the meat just melts in your mouth perfect with some wasabi and rice we’re ending the night watching a Takachiho Kagura performance the original performance is held at the shrine we visited this morning full ritual consists of 33 dances performed overnight but visitors can watch this 1hour version at Takachiho Shrine every night the performance uses masks, costumes, and music from drums and flutes and is connected directly to the legends tied to Takachiho Gorge and Amanoiwato Shrine looks like it’s a rainy start to the day we’re starting the day at this tea shop they do tea pairings and desserts they had some interesting teas on the menu like this cold brew tea you can learn about the different teas while watching them be made the shaved ice came with 3 different kinds of tea syrups next we’re driving down to the southern part of Miyazaki which is well known for it’s beaches Aoshima is this small island it’s connected to the mainland by a pedestrian bridge what makes the island unique is that it is surrounded by this rock formation known as the “Devil’s Washboard” these are rocks created by wave erosion over thousands of years at low tide, you can walk right onto the rocks and see it up close at the end of the walk you’ll find this red Shinto shrine it was quite unique to see a shrine surrounded by subtropical environment with palm trees and the sea the area also had a lot of beach cafes and restaurants quick lunch before heading to the next stop I wasn’t expecting to see these massive Moai statues here they are the only replicas in the world officially approved by Easter Island after a Japanese company helped restore Moai damaged by a tsunami in Chile Easter Island’s elders gifted permission for these statues to be built each Moai is said to bring a different kind of luck our last stop for today is this cape is known for its wild horses there is about 100 wild Misaki horses, a rare native breed it’s also a great place to enjoy the scenic environment the views would have been even more amazing in clear weather it’s such a unique experience to be this up close with wild horses of course you can’t touch them or feed them but they seem unbothered by people and that brings us to the end of today’s tour 🙂 I decided to stay an extra day after the tour going to have a slow day exploring the city and of course we need to start with a coffee planning out what to do for today one thing I was interested in seeing was this garden which displays over 400 of these clay haniwa figures they’re scattered along this walking trail these replicas are modelled after ancient burial figurines which are from the Kofun period (3rd–6th century) they range from human shapes to animals, houses, and tools the park also has this lunch buffet they had so many different drinks and coffees around the world the food was mostly vegetarian and organic each on of the dishes were delicious they also had a great dessert selection the chai pudding was the best part there’s one more stop I want to visit today it’s about a 20 minute walk from the park this shrine is surrounded by a little forest and is so well kept the grounds were so quiet and peaceful perfect to enjoy a quiet walk next to the main shrine are these red torii gates walking through them is said to give you good luck had to stop by donki before leaving the ground floor is full of Miyazaki souvenirs these cheese manjyu were delicious and of course Miyazaki is very famous for their mangos you can also find Miyazaki mangos here for a affordable prince (USD $6-7) now we’re off to the airport hope you guys enjoyed this little trip to Miyazaki

It is dreamy indeed! I will pop all the bubbles intuitively! I love that drone shot as well! Thank you for your hard work, Sol! 🍵
Sorry but is there any problem with the video edit? Seems like someone just learn to use the gear for the first time and the scene also skip too fast and sometimes slow motion…it just unusual as i'm not comfortable to watched 😥😔
I miss Japan so much, never experienced anything like it. Definitely adding Miyazaki to my list. ❤
Your countryside videos are beautiful. I would like to see more videos of not only Japan but also the Korean countryside.
Hi Sol! I dont know if you have visited but I hope you can visit Sasebo, Iwakuni, Nagasaki, Beppu and Okinawa. I lived in Sasebo for 3 years and 4 years in Okinawa. ❤❤❤
