⁴ᴷ Fukui: Takefu Station (福井県: 武生駅) – Japan Walking Tour (October, 2025)
Walking Through Echizen City (Takefu): From Maizuru to Fukui’s Historic Town
I set out on a journey to Kansai to visit my family home in Kobe. Along the way, I planned to stop by several towns as I traveled west, and on the way back, I intend to visit a few places that catch my interest before returning to the Tokyo area.
From Maizuru in northern Kyoto Prefecture, I headed east and arrived in Fukui Prefecture. I’m more familiar with the old name, Takefu City, but it’s now known as Echizen City. It’s a town with a long history—Lady Murasaki, the author of The Tale of Genji, is said to have spent her childhood here.
In front of the station stands a large, modern city hall, and the surrounding area has been neatly redeveloped. A short walk from the station leads to a shopping street with covered sidewalks. However, there were hardly any people around, and the dimly lit atmosphere gave the area a slightly lonely feel.
