Thank you for watching. This is manpuku from Occhii-ch. For this walk through the old townscape, I’ll be touring the “White-Walled Townscape” in Yanai City, Yamaguchi Prefecture. To get to the “White-Walled Townscape,” you’ll likely be traveling by JR or car. If you’re traveling by JR, get off at Yanai Station on the Sanyo Line and it’s an eight-minute walk to the “White-Walled Townscape. ” If you’re traveling by car, I recommend the “White-Walled Townscape Tourist Parking Lot” (free). It’s conveniently located just a few minutes’ walk from the “White-Walled Townscape,” and it’s spacious. By the way, there are other tourist parking lots besides the one I parked here. For details, please check the Yanai City Tourism Association website. Before I knew it, I arrived at the “White-Walled Townscape Tourist Parking Lot” (free). Please note that all parking lots are locked at night. Let’s get going! The white-walled townscape with floating goldfish : The medieval street layout remains intact today, with rows of Edo-period merchant houses lining both sides of the approximately 200-meter street. During the feudal era, this street was known as the storehouse of the Iwakuni domain, and bustling with large handcarts loaded with produce. (Quoted from the Yanai City Tourism Association website) Let’s walk along the Shirakabe Gakuyukan Alley. We turn around and head back. Entering the Kanro Soy Sauce Museum (Sagawa Soy Sauce Brewery) , we return to Shirakabe Town Street, enveloped in the sweet aroma of soy sauce. Shirakabe Town Street continues beyond the road. The Muroya -no-en Merchant Museum was closed, so we couldn’t visit… But we saw an alley, so we decided to check it out. We turn around and head back. Next, we’ll go see the “Willow and Well,” the origin of Yanai’s name. Having visited all the places we wanted to see at Shokoan , it’s about time to head home. We couldn’t visit the Yanai Townscape Museum, which was also closed… Today, we walked through the “White Walled Townscape” in Yanai City, Yamaguchi Prefecture. What did you think? 中世の町割りがそのまま今日も生きており、約200ｍの街路に面した両側に江戸時代の商家の家並みが続いています。

藩政時代には岩国藩のお納戸と呼ばれ、産物を満載した大八車が往来してにぎわった町筋です。

　昭和59年に国の重要伝統的建造物群保存地区に選定されました。往時の面影をしのばせる町並みで、心安らぐひとときを味わえます。（柳井市観光協会HPより引用）
