Last year I went to Kinchakuda in Saitama to see the red spider lilies. This year I think I’ll go to Kanagawa. They don’t grow as gregariously as I thought they would, and they’re pretty plain. I’ll be dropping by Keio University for a bit. It’s located behind Keio Junior and Senior High School. This is it. This is it. Kanbei Hell. It’s probably a depression. An ancient burial site? I wonder. The stones are placed in a spiral pattern. The feet are soft. This must be the bottom of the depression, but I wonder if something happened here in the past. There was hell behind the Keio University school building. Here’s a look at the aerial photo. The area around Keio University, its junior and senior high schools is nothing but fields and farmland. It’s a shame that students have to go to a faraway station to find anything. Even though it’s a flashy Keio University. Now, let’s move. There is a sign for a reservoir. I wonder if this underground reservoir is a reservoir? It’s starting to look like a rural landscape. We cross the stream we just crossed and enter Chigasaki city. You can see Mt. Daisen in the distance. You can also see Mt. Fuji from here. Today it’s cloudy and you can’t see it. It says that littering is a nuisance to local people, but I think it’s actually the local people who are littering. I wouldn’t bother coming all the way here. What kind of flower is this? 小出川の土手を歩いていくと、赤い蕾が点々と並び、まもなく始まる祭りを前に静かに息づいていました。人影は少なく、川沿いの風景に足音だけが響きます。かつて訪れた埼玉の巾着田ほどの華やかさはないものの、素朴な景色には土地本来の時間が宿っているようでした。途中で立ち寄った慶應中等部・高等部の裏手には「勘兵衛地獄」と呼ばれる窪地があり、渦を描く石の並びに古い伝承の名残を感じます。学び舎の裏に広がる田畑や調整池は、この地域の暮らしを支える静かな日常の一部。さらに歩みを進めると茅ヶ崎市に入り、遠くに大山の稜線がかすみ、晴れた日なら富士山さえ望める土地であることを思い起こさせます。足元には名も知らぬ草花が揺れ、川辺には赤く染まる彼岸花が少しずつ姿を見せていました。華やかな祭りの賑わいではなく、暮らしと祈りが交わる素朴な藤沢と茅ヶ崎の姿。画面越しに歩くこの道は、静かな季節の巡りをそのまま映し出してくれることでしょう。
