【Tour de Cafe Tokyo #5】Bromptonで等々力・九品仏・武蔵小山カフェ紹介|Leica Q3で撮るコーヒーショップ☕️📸🫘

Hi everyone! This is Pedal & Brew. Let’s go cafe hopping on my Brompton again today! I’ll be riding through Todoroki, Kuhombutsu, and Musashi-Koyama. These are the three shops I’ll be visiting today. ♡ Today’s starting point is Komazawa Olympic Park. They have a jogging and cycling course here that’s about 2 kilometers long. Leaving the park, I’m crossing Komazawa Dori. Our first destination is a café in Todoroki. It’s a shop that offers specialty coffee from Nepal. I haven’t had breakfast yet, so I hope they have some light food. This is called the Nomikawa Ryokudo (Nomikawa Green Way). The water supposedly originates from leaks in the old Shinagawa Aqueduct near Sakura-Shinmachi, which created a river that’s 14 kilometers long! It seems the 300 cherry trees here are beautiful in the spring! I’d love to see it. It’s already late September, and the high is 28 degrees Celsius. This is the perfect temperature for a bike ride! It’s still a bit hot for walking, but the breeze on the bike feels so good. But I’m sure it’ll get cold really quickly. Lol. I guess this is Komazawa Kōen Dori (Komazawa Park Street). I just crossed Komazawa Dori right after leaving the park, and this is Komazawa Kōen Dori… It’s so confusing! Lol. By the way, on days when I cycle all day like this, I use an app called Strava to record my activity. I can look back at where I rode, and it shows the total distance, which helps with motivation! Lol. And with that, we’ve arrived near Yoga Nakamachi Dori! I can see the Oimachi Line train tracks in the distance. Turning at the intersection in front of Todoroki Station… We’re here! The shop is spacious, and it looks like it could seat more than 10 people. For a light meal, I chose a tomato focaccia sandwich and a panna cotta. For drinks, a cold brew of the daily bean, which is Pea Berry. And a coffee lemonade. They apparently own a farm in Nepal and roast the beans here in Japan, which were grown in the rich Himalayan soil. They uphold the “Farm to Cup” philosophy, striving for quality from cultivation to roasting and quality control. The bitterness, sourness, and sweetness of the lemon layering with the bitterness and acidity of the coffee makes for a complex and delicious flavor! It’s a super refreshing drink, perfect for summer. Two escaped! Lol. The fluffy focaccia and juicy tomato are absolutely delicious. The milky panna cotta and the citrusy acidity are a perfect match. The Pea Berry gives an initial impression of brown sugar or kuromitsu (brown sugar syrup), with a clean finish. It’s a flavor I haven’t really had before! I really like it. And I was curious about the Yeti cap. Lol. I ended up buying it along with the Pea Berry beans. They have a rich variety of coffee beans, including different processing methods. This has definitely become a favorite shop that I want to visit again! Alright, now that we’re full, let’s head to the nearby Tama River. Going along the Oimachi Line tracks… And Todoroki Station is right there. Since we’re near the Todoroki Valley, I’m going to make a detour. There’s a 3-degree Celsius temperature difference between the inside and outside of the valley! We were just talking about the café, and how crazy it is that they own a coffee farm! Lol. We’re crossing Kanjo Hachigo Sen (Route 8) and heading down Meguro Dori. The temperature has dropped, so the downhill slope is almost too cool. Lol. Turning… turning… the road is getting narrow, which makes it tricky. If I go straight, I’ll reach the Tama River, but I’ll make a slight turn here. This is the Maruko River, and it apparently merges with the Tama River a little further down. It’s such a peaceful and relaxing spot. There are two ducks! Are they a pair? They were so cute and soothing! This was a hidden gem. Since I’m riding my bike, I might as well go through here. It feels like a secret path, with all the plants growing out. We’ve finally made it to the Tama River! Is there a spot to cross Tamazutsumi Dori and go down to the riverbank? The stairs are pretty steep, so carrying the bike down would be quite challenging. Lol. It’s so spacious and feels great out here! After taking a few photos and a break, we’re off to grab lunch. Our destination is Kuhombutsu, two stops away from Todoroki Station on the Oimachi Line. And here comes the big enemy—an uphill climb… and a 14% gradient! Just when I thought I reached the top, there’s another hill… Not again! Lol. Please be the last one… Finally, a downhill stretch! Or so I thought… now it’s uphill again. I’m so glad it’s cool today… lol. We’re finally back to flat ground. If I lived around here, my legs would definitely get a workout. Lol. Crossing Kanpachi Dori (Kanjo Hachigo Sen, or Route 8). A short ride through the shopping street, and we’ll arrive at our lunch spot. First up is Gazpacho! The demitasse cup is so cute. I’m also happy that the lunch set includes a salad. This is the Tora Curry. I ordered the Fluffy Omurice! The half-cooked egg looks delicious, just as the name suggests… It’s an exquisite dish that pairs perfectly with the ketchup rice and demi-glace sauce. I gobbled it all down. For dessert, two kinds of cake! They’re from their sister store, Patisserie R. The grape and fig flavors really made it feel like autumn. It was a lovely café that is clearly loved by the locals. Now, for our final stop, we’re heading to an espresso specialty shop in Musashi-Koyama. The route takes us through Jiyugaoka, Midorigaoka, and Ookayama, crossing Kanjo Nanago Sen (Route 7). The atmosphere along the train tracks reminds me of the Tokyu Setagaya Line. We’re in the Jiyugaoka area; there are a lot of fun variety stores here. The road we just crossed is called Jiyu Dori (Freedom Street)! What a cool name. This is the second time today we’ve encountered the Oimachi Line. We’re probably right in between Jiyugaoka and Midorigaoka. Riding along the Kuhombutsu River Green Way. This must be the Tokyu Meguro Line! Ookayama Station should serve both the Oimachi Line and the Meguro Line. If I turn left and go straight, I’ll arrive at the station. The road is narrow and gets a lot of car traffic, so I’m powering my way up. Passing Ookayama Station and heading toward Kan-Nana (Route 7). It’s almost the season for hot drinks, right? I prefer a Natural bean for iced coffee, but I’d choose a Washed one for hot coffee. For iced lattes, I definitely prefer a light-roast Natural with strong berry notes over a darker roast. That’s probably because I used to dislike coffee and was more of a tea person. Lol. Speaking of tea, the famous Mariage Frères Marco Polo is my favorite. Earl Grey is the absolute best for pairing with sweets. I spotted a sunflower. Summer is almost over, isn’t it? I miss it every year, but will I finally get to see the beautiful autumn leaves this year? Arriving at Musashi-Koyama Station! Riding down Samezu Oiyama Sen. I’ve ridden quite a bit, so I’m getting thirsty. The classic espresso drinks are latte and Americano, right? It looks like the building the shop is in is under construction. Found a bike stand! I ordered an iced latte and an Americano made with Kenyan beans. The richness of the milk seems to mellow out the sharpness of the Kenyan espresso. It has a gentle taste, but the intense Kenya flavor is still there—it’s delicious. The bright acidity, typical of an Americano, and the fruitiness of the Kenyan coffee are perfectly balanced. It goes down smoothly and soothes my tired body. The autofocus is messing up! Lol. All the cafés were delicious today! Check the description box for more details. I’d be happy if you subscribed and left a comment! See you again in two weeks! ♡
