【かわいい！】日本初・廃線高架上の列車型レストランを体験。引退サンダーバードが“未来行きレストラン”に変身｜京都「FUTURE TRAIN KYOTO DINER & CAFE」
Experience “FUTURE TRAIN,” the first restaurant in Japan to be located on an elevated railway track! Enjoy the mysterious atmosphere until the very end. Today, I arrived at Umekoji-Kyoto-Nishi Station, one stop from JR Kyoto Station. On September 20th, a slightly strange restaurant opened at this station. Hmm?! Is this a restaurant?! This “Future Restaurant” was created in collaboration between JR West and Kyoto City. Built on an abandoned elevated railway track, this first-of-its-kind “train restaurant” features a retired “Thunderbird 681 Series” train car. It’s truly a one-of-a-kind restaurant that could only be realized by a railway company. Reservations are required online in advance. The cool-looking Thunderbird is a cute pink! Even Thunderbird probably never imagined it would turn pink after retirement. The concept is “Take Me To The Future,” and the restaurant ‘s message is, “In an age where there are no right answers, we want people to think about their own future.” The restaurant’s design was handled by Masuda Sebastian, who is also familiar from Kyary Pamyu … Those who book the “FUTURE IMAGINATION Course” will experience approximately 20 minutes of ride experience content in Car 1. Videography is prohibited on the “FUTURE IMAGINATION Course” (photography is allowed). After the IMAGINATION experience, they move to Car 2 to enjoy an original course meal. Their journey through time and space will be accompanied by Pink Bird, the FUTURE TRAIN’s tour guide. And then there’s Birdie Buddy, the FUTURE TRAIN conductor! This is a rare opportunity, as only those who book the “FUTURE IMAGINATION Course” can meet them. The course begins at 6:30 PM and takes approximately two hours to savor the course meal. The conductor’s signature pose is also shown. Birdie Buddy occasionally drops by to check on the restaurant. The worldview is truly amazing! The first thing that arrived was an aperitif (non-alcoholic options are also available). The aperitif was a little unusual, tasting like something from the future. It looked like water or sake, but it had a strange flavor. It was sweet, yet spicy? Other drinks are ordered via QR code. In addition to beer and soft drinks, they also offer original cocktails. The alcohol menu is also quite elaborate. It seems the first menu has arrived. The tableware is super cute… Three Amuse dishes: smoked salmon and matcha dill basil corn, candied and gorgonzola panipuri with Monserrano, and Matsukaze-yaki salmon with pink leaf tuile. After the food is served, a menu card is handed out. It’s a new experience trying each dish. They’re incredibly intricately crafted and carefully prepared. They make great snacks with alcohol. Churro-style grilled eggplant and sweet shrimp tartare with a Cajun aroma. The concept of the food is “A strange world of sweets.” Despite their sweet appearance, the flavors are substantial side dishes. A mysterious onboard food cart is approaching. Hmm? Cream puffs? Apparently they’re bread, and apparently they’re eaten with three types of whipped cream. Three types of whipped cream: custard cream, whipped cream, and honey mascarpone. The sweet bread and whipped cream make it seem like a dessert. You can have more bread! Next up is a mysterious soup. It smells amazing! Warm mushroom potage is poured into the scent of plum wood chips. It’s so delicious. Soup: Potage de Champignon – A fragrant dome. Seafood menu: Pan-fried scallops. White miso vin blanc and black tuile. Opening the pitch-black lid reveals a pure white space. Delicious! You can tell that every dish is made with the best ingredients. The scallops are huge! Oh! Birdy Buddy has come to play again! He touches all the windows mercilessly. It ‘s only for a short time, but it’s nice to see them pop up every now and then. The character itself has a design that’s unlike anything we’ve seen before. Next up is meat: Omi beef rump roast. Madeira sauce and colorful vegetables. I don’t know what the “Madira” in the sauce is, but it’s delicious! It has a fragrant aroma and taste, like it’s been grilled over charcoal. Finally, dessert: Fromage cassata. Sparkling jewelry style – amber – this tableware is cute too! It has a slightly frozen, crunchy texture. Delicious. It was a mysterious color experience from start to finish. The taste and atmosphere were one of a kind, and it was a very enjoyable two hours! Please try it out when you come to Kyoto! Original goods are also on sale at the cash register. Inside the store There are also cute goods and sweets with a Future Train motif on display. So, the evening course meal was like this, but apparently the special lunch menu is also amazing. So I came back for lunch the next day! As always, the music welcomes you with a loud melody. If you listen to it for long enough, you’ll find yourself humming along. Here’s the lunch menu. The lunch menu is also colourful! In fact, it’s very luxurious. For lunch, I chose a box seat in car 3. It’s a small private space with a VIP room-like atmosphere. Usually, you have to pay an admission fee, but repeat customers can enter for free. Here’s the full lunch menu. For my drink, I ordered the “purple sweet potato and white chocolate shake.” It’s the most delicious shake I’ve ever had. And then there was the Gorgeous Splendor Burger. Wow … What is this!? Is this the burger of the future?! And then came the parfait of the future. It’s huge!!! It’s so luxurious and cute that it’s hard to believe it’s just lunchtime! The Gorgeous Splendor Burger comes with fries and curry-flavored soup. The burger is sukiyaki-flavored and incredibly delicious. The portion is just right, and surprisingly easy to finish even by yourself. Next up was a gigantic 30cm parfait inspired by the five-story pagoda. It’s too much for one person to eat. The parfait looks unusual, but each ingredient is delicious and high-quality. It looks cute and tastes delicious, so I recommend it! Be sure to try it not only in the evening, but also for lunch. まるでテーマパークのような没入感に包まれます。
フューチャーイマジネーションコース（完全予約制）
「FUTURE TRAIN」を味わい尽くす、唯一無二のコース体験。
1号車での没入型乗車アドベンチャーと、
2号車レストランでのコース料理がひとつに融合した約2時間の“時空旅行”です。
1号車（乗車体験）
最先端の映像技術と車窓演出が連動する「没入型ライド体験」。
実際に列車が動いているような臨場感と、非現実的な美しい旅の景色を体感できます。
2号車（ディナー）
食前酒から始まる全7品のコース料理。
「KYOTOダイナー＆カフェ」をテーマに、
京都食材と現代的プレゼンテーションを融合させたメニューが並びます。

・マッシュルームのポタージュ ～梅の木チップの香り～
・ホタテのポワレ 白味噌のヴァンブランと黒いチュイル

サンダーバードの第二の姿、素敵な未来の列車というのがよいですね。色使いとかアテンダントさんとかも楽しいです。現実にはならなかった昔の未来という姿なのでしょうか。こういう未来もあってもいいですね。

The five story, pagoda parfait was ENORMOUS!! 😳 The burger was also quite large. Suffice it to say that the pictures don’t do them justice.
