Japan Kanagawa 4K Walking Tour 2025
Walking through the historic area of Seya Ward, Yokohama Current location: Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture We are continuing to explore Seya Ward, Yokohama City. Follow the path between the houses. Your subscription is the beginning of a journey. Let’s go to a new view. We have arrived at Inari Shrine (Hongo). It must be an ancient guardian deity of the area. We arrived at Jizo-son. It’s not well maintained, but it looks old. It probably dates back to the Edo period. For some reason, a building with many snack bars appeared in this place. The Seya US military base is next door, so perhaps it was a red-light district in the past. Naturally, the shutters are down. It doesn’t seem like a good location for business. Entering from a side street, we arrived at Shinmei Shrine. The foundation stone of the lecture hall in the seven halls of Kokubunji Temple, which once stood in front of Ebina Station, is said to be the base stone of the monument to the war dead. This is it. A memorial for war dead of local villagers It’s a nice square. It looks like it could be a playground for the village children. The road I’m walking on now seems to be the ancient Kamakura Kaido road. The area is lined with old, stately mansions along the road. What a magnificent mansion. Is he the landlord? Is he someone in power? Nakayashikizoson. It looks very old and weathered. The former site of Seya Bank. Apparently it was built in 1907 as the residence of an important person, such as a village mayor. Seya Station on the Sotetsu Line was built in 1926, but I wonder if this area was the center of the area during the Meiji period before that. Seya Bank has merged with various other banks and is now part of Yokohama Bank. I entered through the back gate bearing the hollyhock crest and arrived at Zenshoji Temple. This temple has a difference in elevation. I think it’s on the edge of a plateau. It was founded around 1555. All the temples from Machida to Yamato are from this era. I feel like there’s someone there. What is that tower? The grounds seem to be a special needs school. This area is a bit scary. I walk quickly. I also turn off my camera so I don’t get caught. This is the north-facing Jizo. Is the representative facing north? Is it for travelers? That’s all for today. Thank you for watching. Your subscriptions will help me on my next journey. Likes also support me. There seems to be another small shrine behind this one on the right… No good. Let’s turn back.
