The 28th prefecture in my nationwide tour, Kochi Prefecture No. 3. Morning of Day 7 in Kochi – It’s raining again today, but let’s get ready! What should I do with the rain? For breakfast, I’ll have some pork buns I bought at the Aguri Kubokawa Roadside Station. Unfortunately, it’s been raining so much today, I’m having trouble deciding where to go… Watching the live camera of the Shimanto River… it’s raining everywhere. You can’t go to the river on a rainy day, and Ehime Prefecture and Fukuoka are especially prone to heavy rain… Each bun is just the right size. When I mentioned I was going on a trip to Shikoku, a friend gave me some coffee to take with me! This might be the first time I’ve eaten breakfast in the car this trip. I’d originally planned to take a full day off to reset, but I’m debating whether to do anything today, sightseeing in Kochi, or heading straight to Ehime. The weather looks bleak for the Karst… I’d go if the weather cleared up, but it’s pouring rain. Washing dishes is a pain, so I’m wrapping my plates in plastic wrap to avoid washing them. It feels like I’m having a relaxing morning for the first time in a while. I just called and miraculously managed to get a reservation at an RV park fairly close to the Shikoku Karst. The RV Park I booked, “Roadside Station Seiryu-no-Sato Hijikawa,” is incredibly cheap at just 2,000 yen! I want to conserve power as much as possible. If I stay early (without charging my car), the power won’t last. It’s hot, after all. Even if I can stay safely (without charging), I’ll probably only stay for one day. I won’t be driving far, so I won’t be charging while driving… It’s a bit far, but I think I’ll go to Ehime and Ozu today. If it had been sunny, I was actually planning to go on a glass-bottom boat ride in Kochi, so this wasn’t on my plans… I also threw out my trash at the campsite, so I was able to reset a lot of things. This campsite has power, a dump station, individual water taps, a trash dump, a coin laundry, and showers, and it’s only 5,000 yen, so I think it’s pretty cheap. Everyone was walking around the campsite in swimsuits, so I guess there’s something going on somewhere. On previous trips, I didn’t use campgrounds or RV parks much, but this time I used them quite a bit. I realized that having a power site is really reassuring in the summer. From here, I headed out of Kochi Prefecture and into Ehime Prefecture. I still had regrets about the Shimanto River, so I decided to drive along the river from here. This decision turned out to be a difficult one… Being able to change plans is one of the great things about a camper van. “Let’s enjoy a rainy drive.” I’m sure it would be beautiful on a sunny day. The road is starting to look a little shady… Is there an oncoming car coming here? Coming, coming. Hmm? They’re waving flags? This is a one-way alternating road, so the road is narrow. It says there’s a “difficult-to-pass” section ahead! Is it okay? Can I get through? I’m starting to wonder if I can get through… Wow! It’s so narrow! I recommend taking a different route if you have a larger vehicle! Make sure you check for shelter. It would be pretty tough if you were coming this far… The oncoming car waited for me, but… it was quite a close call. From here on, alternating one-way traffic is no longer an option. The road gets increasingly narrower… It seems like it would be too difficult for a large vehicle, so I recommend taking the coastal route. Come to think of it, I remember a road like this in Mie Prefecture… To the right was a mountain slope, and to the left, a cliff and river were right next to me. The rain made it difficult to see, making for the worst possible conditions… The conditions were still tough… Oncoming traffic! It’s good to have your lights on at times like this, so oncoming vehicles can see you. Wow! They’re coming from the front! There were cars in front and behind me… It was pretty tough to move back because there was a car behind me… I managed to avoid them, but the road was so rough it was a real pain… Thanks to the lights, the oncoming vehicles seemed to notice. It’s also scary to see “Beware of Falling Rocks” signs everywhere. I couldn’t tell if a car was coming or not… It would have been better to take a detour, even if it took a while… Then there’s another car! Everyone was yielding to each other, and I was unsure who was allowed to go. It was a close call, even with the weather, making it really hard to see. Just when I thought I was done, I was faced with alternating one-way traffic again… Even though I knew there were no oncoming vehicles, I still didn’t think it was a good idea. It was the narrowest I’d ever been , so narrow and scary, I was exhausted from all the stress. Somehow, I managed to get through the final obstacle safely. Even in this situation, I think you should never go through it at night. I’ve just entered Ehime Prefecture! This is the 29th prefecture I’ve visited nationwide, and the 30th prefecture I’ve visited. Since it took quite a while to get there on this rough road, I decided to skip the roadside RV park and go sightseeing in Ozu first before heading to the RV park. Since my plans changed, I decided to go around the ocean instead… I should have just gone around the ocean from the start, lol . What was that time all about… From here, I’m on a comfortable road! Apparently there’s a heavy rain and flood warning ahead… It’s not raining as much as I thought, but it’s foggy. I’m going to explore Ozu, so I head to the parking lot first. I arrived at the city-run No. 1 tourist parking lot. It was free. I’m a little pressed for time, so I’ll quickly explore! We headed for Ozu Robata Aburaya. It was cool, but the humidity was quite high. I think there’s a parking lot there, too, but it’s a multi-story car park, so I don’t think a camper van would be suitable. The back streets had a unique atmosphere. So there’s a hotel in a traditional Japanese house here! We found Aburaya! What?! They were actually setting up… Apparently the lunch session ended five minutes ago… We pulled ourselves together and headed to the neighboring Pokopen Yokocho . Unfortunately, today was Monday, a national holiday. They’re supposed to be closed on Mondays, but… I’m not sure. Is Pokopen Yokocho closed? It was empty… Normally, all the shops are open. Apparently, there’s a Showa-kan-style building, too. The front gate looked like this. It seems like the whole area is closed on Mondays. This hotel seems to be one of the scattered hotels in the castle town. Since we missed lunch, we had a quick tea break at Saryo Hiranoya. U-chan ordered a fresh sweets and green tea set. We were also given a thorough lesson on how to brew sencha tea. Tea has its own unique brewing techniques, and it’s a complex art. We waited a minute! The resulting sencha was a beautiful color. Mom and Dad waited for their warabimochi, which finally arrived with a 20-minute expiration date. We enjoyed it with brown sugar syrup and kinako (roasted soybean flour). Made with 100% real bracken flour, these authentic warabimochi are made to order. The texture was so smooth. It disappeared almost instantly. What’s with this texture? It was gone after two or three bites. The interior was also calm and lovely. As I left, I spotted a chair that looked familiar! It was the chair featured in the movie “Suzume no Tojimari” (The Sparrow’s Door Lock)! Apparently, Ozu City was also a filming location for “Suzume no Tojimari,” and the chair is on display elsewhere. Apparently, the Naruto Bridge, which I visited the other day, was also one of the filming locations! It’s now past 3 PM. Check-in at the RV park is until 5 PM, so I want to leave by 4:30 PM. This street also feels like an old shopping street. Ozu Castle comes into view. The hotel we saw earlier is here too! I’d love to stay in a hotel in an old house like this – Ozu Castle . The road to Ozu Castle is also quite steep. The view is great! Now, let’s go inside the castle. I’m sure the view would be even better if it was sunny. The wooden restoration of Ozu Castle’s main tower was completed in 2004, and the scent of wood fills the air. The stairs are quite steep, so there is a place to take off your slippers halfway up. The top floor may not feel as open as I expected. It’s a wonderful view of the river and the cityscape. (By the way, Ozu Castle only allows one group of guests to stay overnight per day…) After enjoying Ozu Castle, we headed back to the car. For some reason, we missed lunch and were starving. Since Monday is a regular holiday, most shops are closed. The Abura-ya, which was open due to its holiday schedule, was open, but we couldn’t make it in time. It was surprisingly humid and muggy, and I was sweating profusely. After this, we headed to the RV park. The river is right next to us, but is that okay? It seems fine for now. Roadside Station Seiryu-no-Sato Hijikawa has more amenities than I expected! RV park check-in completed! There’s a water tap and trash bins at the RV park. There are four RV sites, each with the space of two parking spaces. We took a quick stroll around the roadside station. Inside, there was a supermarket? They sold meat, fish, daily necessities, and more. There’s also a convenience store! There’s a restaurant nearby, so it’s okay to come empty-handed. Since we skipped lunch and are starving, we’ll have an early dinner here. Mom and Dad ordered miso and yuzu salt tsukemen, and U-chan ordered omelet rice. The hot springs are amazing here! They serve yakiniku and okonomiyaki! I highly recommend this roadside station, as it’s convenient! The hot springs are less than 2km away, so we’ll arrive quickly. Incidentally, there seems to be a charming hot spring inn called “Koyabuki Onsen” just beyond this red torii gate. The hot spring we’re heading to is the Ozu City Exchange Promotion Center Shikanogawaso, where you can both eat and stay. The rain caused an emergency release of water from the dam. There’s a parking lot above the Ozu City Exchange Promotion Center Shikanogawaso , but it’s a bit narrow both up and down. We managed to find a spot just in time. After a refreshing soak in the hot springs , we returned to the RV park. Since we have unlimited power today, the air conditioner is running at full power. I’ll also do my laundry at the laundromat while I can. After washing and drying… I got home from the laundry…what happened in between? A mom with her kids called out to me at the laundromat… She saw my dad’s T-shirt and thought I looked like a YouTuber, so she searched for me. We were washing and drying at the same time, so she spoke to me when she came to collect it! She said, “Good luck!” and I was so happy♪ Thank you! I never thought there would be a pattern from a T-shirt, so I was a little surprised. lol Papa was also surprised to find that there was someone who felt that way about this T-shirt. In fact, I even made some goods that I wanted to use. lol I ate dinner early today, so let’s have some snacks! Here, I had a miraculous encounter with an unexpected person! I had a miraculous encounter with Dad Panda and Ichimi Taka. lol It seems the pandas had changed their plans to come here too. By the way, this is the third time I’ve run into Panda-san by chance while traveling. Maybe the next time we meet will be in Hokkaido or somewhere around there? We were surprised by this miraculous reunion! We had a great time talking after meeting for the first time in a while, and we decided to go to the karst together tomorrow! We returned to the car and started making snacks. It was such a thrill to see both Panda and Ichimi again after so long. The last time I bumped into Panda on a trip was three years ago, in Ise, Mie Prefecture. And now, here in Ehime, it’s my third encounter! When Panda first contacted me, I thought we were meeting somewhere…but then he called me, and when I answered, he was like, “Where are you?” lol. I said, “A roadside station in Ehime,” and he said, “I saw a car that looked like U-chan’s,” so I looked outside and saw the two of them…lol. The chicken bones I’m frying are the ones I bought at the store earlier. I’m going to make scrambled eggs with some eggs I bought somewhere. I tuck the bacon into the bag and cut it so I don’t have to do any washing up. I’ll have a non-alcoholic snack with this today. Cheers! It’s just the right temperature to satisfy a small hunger. Today’s comment theme is “What comes to mind when you think of Ehime?” Ehime…? Tangerines? The tangerine juice tap is intriguing, isn’t it?! What’s that? There’s no “Ehime” in sight. U-chan learned about Ehime for the first time today! Papa says that when you think of Ehime, you think of the Shikoku Karst! It’s no exaggeration to say that he came to Shikoku for that reason. Please tell us what you think of when you think of “Ehime” ♪ Thank you! It’s cold!! Even though we’re in an area with a temperature of 26°C and humidity of 98%? No, no, who was that?! Who had the air conditioner set to 20°C? Everyone’s comfortable temperatures are so different, it’s annoying. Cooling off? I’m just lounging around. It was so humid today, so I looked it up, and apparently the humidity was 92% when they were at Ozu Castle. Even now, the temperature is 25°C and humidity is 98%. It was so humid, it felt like we were in a mist… U-chan is giving Papa a gentle massage. Mama is shivering from the cold. I’m going to bed now to prepare for tomorrow’s Shikoku Karst! Good night!

  10. Aloha🤙

  22. Saluti dall'Italia!!!
