This is an excerpt from the video from the first day of our Nagoya trip. It’s the morning of the second day of our trip. The Montblanc Hotel Raffine Nagoya Ekimae is quiet and comfortable, despite its proximity to the station. It’s cloudy this morning in Nagoya. Apparently, the construction work is being carried out to build a new station for the Linear Chuo Shinkansen. In fact, the hotel I’m currently staying at was located on a vacant lot until 2020. The hotel was evicted to make way for the station, and will relocate to a new building in 2021. The areas around urban terminal stations change rapidly. I wonder if they’ll be completely different again the next time we visit Nagoya? My wife is wearing the necklace she bought at Soierie yesterday. Let’s get started. First, we head to Osu for brunch. The 24-hour subway pass we purchased yesterday is valid until after 3:00 PM. We went to a restaurant called Shibuya near Shirakawa Park. (It’s called Shibuya, even though it’s in Nagoya.) As you can see, the terrace seating is lovely, like something from a foreign resort. However, since it was a hot day, we headed to the back of the restaurant, where the air conditioning seemed to be more effective. The seats in the back were also lovely, with indirect lighting, antique furniture, and trees. The floor was spacious and open, creating a pleasant atmosphere. Combined with the terrace seating, where pet dogs are allowed, it seems like there would be quite a lot of seating. “Shibuya” promotes “all day break fast.” This is the morning plate. The basic plate of toast, egg, and salad can be topped with a wide variety of toppings. My wife added smoked trout and grilled mozzarella. I also chose grilled mozzarella and added bacon. The poached egg paired well with the bread. The grilled mozzarella and topping were both excellent choices. The thick cheese had a chewy texture, making me feel happy right from the morning. Even though it was a weekday, the seats quickly filled up, demonstrating the restaurant’s popularity. After stopping by Osu Kannon Temple, we headed to Osu Shopping Street. In my previous video, I mentioned that Osu is a mecca for vintage clothing. Osu also boasts other aspects, including its electronics district and otaku appeal. While I didn’t venture into the area with Mandarake and Dospara this time, I did manage to enter a large capsule toy shop with over 1,000 gachapon machines. There was a line of women waiting. I wondered what that was all about. Our next destination was Shin-Sakaemachi Station on the Higashiyama Subway Line. Take the Meijo Subway Line from Kamimaezu Station and transfer at Sakae Station. Across the intersection as we left the station, you’ll see a large blue roof. This is a complex named after the town name “Aoi,” derived from the Tokugawa family crest. It just opened in February of this year. The main attraction is the cafe. We were excited by the museum-like interior, including the brick floor. The second floor, the main floor, has a different atmosphere from the first. Choose from a variety of seating options, including tiered cushioned benches, counter seats, and table seats. I ordered pudding and coffee. I chose a craft cola made with amazake (sweet sake). Even in such a sophisticated space, I spilled a lot of cola. It was sweet and delicious. My hands were sticky. The terrazzo tile floor is stylish. Apparently, the event space in the basement offers “boccia,” an official Paralympic sport. Located in a prime location on the corner of an intersection, this facility seems to serve as a community space. I noticed something strange about my sandaled feet, so I headed back to Nagoya Station. My sandal-clad feet were chafed after a long walk. I’d been wanting to get some new sneakers, so after buying some socks at Uniqlo, I bought the 740s at New Balance in the Gate Tower Mall. I immediately changed into my sneakers. Nagoya is truly a grand city. Speaking of which, even though we stopped by Meitetsu Department Store, we forgot to see the “only two escalators in the world.” This escalator is also rare, but it’s not this one. Meitetsu Department Store’s main branch will close in February 2026. I’m sad to hear that the Meitetsu Bus Center, which I’ve used several times before, will also be relocating. The interior illustrations at UNIMALL are cute (apparently by an illustrator named Okuta). This is the “Dai Nagoya Building,” which has been rebuilt for almost 10 years. We weren’t particularly hungry, so we skipped lunch and went for cake. We like HARBS cakes, but there are no locations in Kyushu where we live. The blueberry cheese tart was almost sold out. It was brilliant! I ordered a pear pie, which is in season in the fall. Both were fresh and delicious! The cream was light. We’d visited HARBS occasionally on trips to Tokyo, but apparently it originated in Nagoya. We picked up our suitcases from the hotel and headed to the airport a little early. Although Meitetsu Nagoya Station is a main station, it is not a terminal station. Trains enter and depart in various directions one after another. It resembles Keikyu Shinagawa Station in Tokyo. We accidentally boarded from platform 4, but it seems that platform 3 is actually the μSKY platform. (Sorry.) Anyway, just like the outbound journey, we enjoyed a relaxing μSKY ride on the return trip. Having eaten toast, pudding, cake, and more today, we were craving Japanese food. Following yesterday’s Miya Kishimen, we ate on the fourth floor of Chubu Centrair International Airport. We bought tempura musubi and beef mabushi bento boxes. As you can see, you can get takeout from the restaurant and eat at a table in the plaza. “Oh, that was fun.” “Yeah, I agree.” “It was a great trip.” The tempura musubi were huge! “Eating at the airport twice.” “Well, it’s convenient, and it tastes good.” It was nice to finally get to sample Nagoya’s unique cuisine one last time. We returned to Fukuoka by propeller plane. I’m glad we didn’t encounter heavy rain during our stay in Nagoya. In the past, when I went to Nagoya, I usually stayed for two nights and three days, but this time, due to work commitments, it was only one night and two days. As a result, we kept the schedule more compact than usual. This was another fulfilling trip. This is the last video of our Nagoya trip, which we’ve been delivering over two weeks.
