2024’s Palm Sunday procession for Orthodox Christians from the Mount of Olives and to Jerusalem.

happy Easter happy Pasa we are at the Orthodox
Pasa which is a little bit different than the Catholic one because Catholic one was a month
ago and the Orthodox is a a very usually clo related to Jewish Passover which is soon uh
we are at B fud that’s where Jesus started actually took the donkey and started is way
to Jerusalem as the Messiah as the king but there are a few differences first of all this
is a Greek Orthodox church it’s fudge on top of the hill uh we are at um next to the
Catholic one secondly I don’t know if you can notice it’s um almost evening time
and this is beautiful CU it’s Saturday but let’s try to see if I can enter
the church I’m not sure but we can try I will talk about that later on it’s so beautiful but it’s so crowded
so um than evening time and this is beautiful because a day in judism begin
begins at Sunset and this is sunset then although it’s Saturday it’s Sunday
according to the Jewish calendar and that case uh you can actually uh you can see
that upon Sunday procession it’s actually your Saturday you can see a little bit of the

of uh Jesus and the disciples at M of olives [Music] [Music] mine today their Church belongs to the French

Palm Sunday is a Christian moveable feast that falls on the Sunday before Easter. The feast commemorates Christ’s triumphal entry into Jerusalem, an event mentioned in each of the four canonical Gospels. Palm Sunday marks the first day of Holy Week. The feast commemorates Christ’s triumphal entry into Jerusalem, an event mentioned in each of the four canonical Gospels. Palm Sunday marks the first day of Holy Week. For adherents of mainstream Christianity, it is the last week of the Christian solemn season of Lent that precedes the arrival of Eastertide

In most liturgical churches, Palm Sunday is celebrated by the blessing and distribution of palm branches (or the branches of other native trees), representing the palm branches that the crowd scattered in front of Christ as he rode into Jerusalem; these palms are sometimes woven into crosses. The difficulty of procuring palms in unfavorable climates led to their substitution with branches of native trees, including box, olive, willow, and yew. The Sunday was often named after these substitute trees, as in Yew Sunday, or by the general term Branch Sunday. In Syriac Christianity it is often called Oshana Sunday or Hosanna Sunday based on the biblical words uttered by the crowd while Jesus entered Jerusalem.

Many churches of mainstream Christian denominations, including the Orthodox, Catholic, Lutheran, Methodist, Anglican, Moravian, and Reformed traditions, distribute palm branches to their congregations during their Palm Sunday liturgies. Christians take these palms, which are often blessed by clergy, to their homes where they hang them alongside Christian art (especially crosses and crucifixes) or keep them in their Bibles and daily devotional books. In the period preceding the next year’s Lent, known as Shrovetide, churches often place a basket in their narthex to collect these palms, which are then ritually burned on Shrove Tuesday to make the ashes to be used on the following day, Ash Wednesday, which is the first day of Lent.
