Explore Munduk Bali: Hidden Waterfalls, Hot Springs & Rice Terraces

[Music] from exploring lush rice terraces,
to chasing waterfalls, immersing in authentic local culture and discovering off the beaten path
temples – welcome to the enchanting world of Munduk in North Bali! [Music] [Birds Chirphing] Selamat Pagi! Apa Kabar? hello everyone
I’m Kharissa Gomez and welcome to the island of the Gods of the Beaten Track – this is our first
episode so thank you for joining us as we explore some of the hidden gems of North Bali with a bit
sightseeing, a bit of adventure, a bit of culture, a bit of everything but guaranteed it’s going to be
a wholesome and authentic Balinese experience for you… and to start our tour we’re here at the Pura Ulun Danu Tambligan
located in the quaint village of Munduk but first, where is Munduk? Well Munduk is a quaint village
located in the mountains of North Bali around 3 hours drive from Ngurah Rai airport in Denpasar. So
what makes this Village special? Well if you think that Bal is the island of the Gods then Munduk
must be the island of waterfalls because you will find lots of waterfalls around here but apart from
waterfalls you will also find scenic rice terraces and beautiful temples such as the Pural Ulun Danu Tamblingan this
is a mini version of Pura Ulun Danu Bratan but minus the crowds and tourist traps! it’s best to come here early
in the morning to enjoy a fantastic view of the sunrise but also the peaceful surroundings, now
let’s go chase some waterfalls [Music] [waterfalls] like I said earlier Munduk
is the land of waterfalls and so how is this for breakfast and coffee with a view?! Golden Valley is best known
for the small Cafe that overlooks the large waterfall a perfect spot
for coffee or snacks and refreshment before you continue exploring
the other waterfalls of Munduk! [waterfalls] [music] [Music] mmm this is a very delicious
Balinese coffee. This coffee is grown here – did you know that Munduk has the
biggest coffee plantation in all of Bali? There’s no entrance fee to this
waterfall but by purchasing something like breakfast or coffee at this Golden
Valley Echo cafe or a small donation can help the local community and the
villagers maintain this beautiful waterfall. It’s such an amazing experience
being here good food, great atmosphere, fantastic waterfall and this is precisely
why it’s called hidden gems of North Bali because we get to experience and discover
the other hidden gems that Bali has to offer so now let’s go explore another waterfall
[Music] [Music]  [waterfall] and we’re here at the Red Coral waterfall, this is
the most famous waterfall in Munduk and also the most expensive at 45,000 IDR that’s
around $3 but this waterfall is quite accessible open to anyone with moderate fitness levels and
it takes about 10 to 15 minutes walk from the car park. …but this is a spectacular and very powerful
waterfall as there’s a huge amount of spray so we’re a bit further away and we don’t want our
cameras getting wet. It’s also located in a small enclave and the trail is well looked after and
mostly concrete so it’s very easy to reach [Music] [waterfall] [music] [birds chirping] [waterfall] and we are here at another amazing waterfall
this is Labuhan Kebo waterfall not as popular as Red Coral it’s also cheaper 20,000 IDR per person entrance fee but this waterfall requires more physical activity over 200 steps
getting down here. it usually takes around 3 to 4 hours to see all the waterfalls in Munduk
depending on fitness level but you also need time to just stay, soak in, relax, enjoy this amazing
waterfall – the mountain breeze here is well feels so wonderful! and so when is the best time
to see these waterfalls? It’s always best to see them during the dry season in Bali which runs
from April to October and the waterfalls will be spectacular during this time and the walking
trails will be less muddy and while you’re in North Bali you can also check the majestic
Sekumpul which is the mother of all waterfalls and also the Fiji waterfalls but in my opinion the
waterfalls of Munduk are much easier to get to not overcrowded and also not expensive. You
will find a few more waterfalls around Munduk that are worth exploring but there are other
hidden gems waiting to be explored so let’s go! [birds chirping] Chasing waterfalls here in Munduk is a
fantastic way of getting touch with nature but also stopping and admiring some of the local Warungs
here such as this one with fantastic view and the people here in this Village are really really so
hospitable and accommodating. [Music] [birds chirping] and of speaking of retreat and spiritual healing we’re here in one
of North Bali’s best kept secret the Banjar Hot Springs. Well I’m not sure this is a secret
any longer there’s quite few people here but this place reminds me a bit like Tirta Empul –
the small version of Tirta Empul but less crowded less touristy and also this is a hot spring so
this is a perfect alternative to the cold Waters of Tirta Empul! Banjar Hot Springs also known as Air
Panas Banjar is located half an hour away from the village of Munduk tracing the roots back to
the Majapahit Era – the centuries of volcanic Springs is believed to possess healing properties from
its mineral rich waters. The holy site features a small swimming pool and is accessible by motor
vehicles thru well-maintained roads. The journey takes you to see quaint Balinese Villages offering
a glimpse into the unique cultural life of the region. During the Dutch colonial period these
hot springs gain recognition because of their therapeutic benefit but coming to this hot spring
today is not just a highlight on the top thing to do in North Bali but also a truly immersive
experience in Balinese ancient tradition. [Music] set in the highlands of North Bali is the quaint
Village of Munduk. Well there isn’t a lot of restaurants here but there are few good
Warungs that offers good food, great service, and fantastic views – so that’s all you need and
for thess reasons we’re here at Warung Adit Tabog for some delicious Balinese Cuisines So for
those of you new to Balinese Cuisine then I’ve chosen a few simple dishes to get you started.
First I have Nasi Campur – Nasi Campur is basically mixed rice and what special about this dish is
it’s actually mixed with several small dishes you have the vegetables, you have uh Babi Satay, you
have some Tempe which is like fermented tofu and the white rice and some soup really really
delicious and of course one of my all-time favorites also one of the popular street food
dishes in Bali Ayam Satay or Chicken Satay, you know it’s so popular it’s chicken marinated in soy and it’s
grilled so it’s really delicious and some simple uh Sayur – green vegetables with spicy sambal – of
course some soothing lemongrass tea so let’s dig in! mmmm… the Nasi Campur is so delicious, there’s
different ingredients really adding to the flavors sweet, savory all at the same time very very
delicious! and let’s try this chicken satay… mmm…. sooo delicious, it’s perfectly grilled it’s smoky, flavorful… let’s try
this green vegetables with sambal. mmm it’s a little spicy but so flavorful and the soothing lemongrass tea mmm so refreshing! [Music] [birds chirping] Munduk is also home to some spectacular rice terraces including Dayang and Gesing. At the moment the
rice is newly planted so not as lush but these are incredible Rice Terraces and
perfect alternative to the busy rice terraces of Ubud and the best part there’s
no entrance fee to these rice terraces. You can also book a trekking
tour from Munduk Village to learn and appreciate more about rice farming and the
other local farms including coffee and Durian plantation I really love this part of
Bali it’s so rural yet so authentic if you can think or only imagine what
Bali looks like you know before Mass hit the island then it would be this.
So if you wanted to escape the crowds and enjoy authentic Balinese experience then you
should start considering Munduk in North Bali. [Music] Have you been to Munduk before? Well if
you have please feel free to share your experiences in the comment section of this
video. Thank you so much everybody for watching the video and supporting our Channel I hope
to see you again in our next episode of The Island of the Gods off the Beaten Track in
the meantime wherever you are in the world I hope you stay safe smile and be happy – Terimah Kasi –
bye-bye! [Music]
