Discover HAGI: Japan’s Real Hidden Gem | Attractions and Tips – Trip to Yamaguchi Hiroshima #3

Hagi is a old castle town with sever wild headage site beautiful beaches and temples today let’s explore this real of the be P City in Yamaguchi prefecture in Japan welcome to Hagi this is tamay station in Hagi City i l the port town of shimonoseki and in about 4 hours ride of trains and the bus I arrived here for travel footages until here please also check previous videos I arrived at Tam station this is one previous station of Huggy station nice all the drawing of HGI there are three stations in Hagi City Center and Main stations seems HGI and higashi Hagi station but I saw a review of the hotel that this hotel is closer from tamay station so I like to walk to the hotel located on the beach called kuga Hama so it says about 2.5 kilm it takes about 30 minutes when you visit I recommend to take taxi from Hai or higashi Hai station let me quickly explain the location of Hagi Hagi is located in the northern part of Yamaguchi prefecture and as of today probably the easiest way to visit is to take the bus from shuchi station of s sh that are connecting Tokyo or Osaka to Goa if you prefer trains you can also use Jr Yami line and sign line but trains are very limited and the pattern of the time schedule actually works for Trav probably one or two a day so you might want to make sure to check time table and pl ahead if you use trins if you are watching my videos for the first time thank you for watching my name is Kango just another Japanese man making travel videos for travelers visiting Japan and this is a series of my trip exploring different regions in Japan and this time I’m traveling areas called Yamaguchi and Hiroshima along with my trip I’d like to show you what you can see in that part of Japanese region from cities to Countryside top golden route to off beaten path also I’d like to explain how you can get there and get around when you travel in the future there so you can discover the destination you like and actually do the same travel as me or better than me very nice little Port Town this is called TOA Bridge Hagi is a former Castle town of ch hu han han seems like it can be translated to domain in English which was ruled by Mory family to the end of the Ed period Japan had more than 200 domains in Edo period and they are replaced by current 47 prefectures eventually oh I see they’re doing the bat tour something like the town is surrounded by the scenic mountains River and ocean as a traveler we can enjoy Castle site streets of all towns and similar temples but hug is far from Tokyo or even from Osaka and not that many people visit this place as I travel this town I really didn’t see tourist even though I was having a nice sunny day in May let’s go into the Oldtown area to see what it’s like this Chu and SATA which is a current kagoshima prefecture became the key domains to made a revolution called major is that ended Ed by shun family mov imper family from Kyoto to Tokyo the key people in the history was born in Hagi or studied in Hagi so this Hagi play important role in Japanese history today I enjoy the hot springs and the beach around the hotel and next day I’d like to explore more of hugi so today I’m booking a hotel by the ocean so looks like my hotel is around the street let’s see it seems this is a hotel I look today I sit at a hotel called Seaside Hotel Miagi it’s facing the beach of Hagi called Kik Gama and it’s a hot spring Hotel it’s a old fashion types key very big it says take off shoes here there’s a one B water and ice water K and there’s a sink in the room interesting this is a restroom next they have tooth brush hair brush razor Q-tip and some face creams and there’s are two beds and a little Japanese room space there’s a bus it’s not competitive outside but uh you can open the window and and feel like outo bus it’s a very big room and I can see they really try to make it more prob this was inovated and I see some kind of not completed yet so this room are like 26,000 so about $180 90 and uh in Tokyo for this size of room and uh your bus placing the window it cost double and it’s including 2 me for that price too the reason I chose this hotel is this hotel has a room with private half outdoor bath so I got a room in this category the only thing is this room’s bath is not hot springs there’s a public bath which is a natural hot springs and when you go there you can bring this disposal back and the towel and this towel you can bring home in case you find something like this in the small package now let’s go out to the beach there’s a bicycle here sun is very white and beautiful let’s go down wow so powdery wow the beach has a beautiful white sun and the water is very clear you see similar of the six islands that belongs to Hai City the shape of the island and Mountain layer is making it very special I was very surprise on the way to HGI that beaches I see from the TR window is so beautiful and now I come close and it’s even more beautiful it’s almost like Okinawa it’s very clear and the Sun so white dinner time was only available for 6:15 which is a littleit early so I like take a little bit walk and go back dinner is a style every night together in the restaurant so I F A little bit intimidated but people are very nice the food were amazing I couldn’t eat puffy fish in shimoni but unexpectedly it came out as a Sashimi here so this is a puffy fish we called hug you enjoy it with soy sauce with citrus sauce most of the regions have local sake manufacturer so when I travel usually at the I order the local sake also has s sake makers so I order the set of the sake that I can try three different sake from HGI each of them were very good hugi is really beautiful it’s it’s 7:30 now it’s close to Summer Sol St so it’s still bright I saw the beautiful sunset I also went to the public bath and the T night I just went bed so in the early morning I walk to the beach good morning it’s 7:00 and breakfast is 7:30 so I like to walk on the beach a little bit before the breakfast so and I went to the Natural Canal that looks like a m of the castle and it is very beautiful reflecting the fresh greens of the May season on the other side is a hugi castle site there used to be a huggi castle [Music] [Music] [Music] it’s kind of hard to leave Huggy or this sun area definitely I have to come back in summer the breakfast was actually even more my favorite it had a puffy fish and this time it was called icha bosi it’s a way to dry fish overnight instead of Under the Sun and this is especially common in sign region and the shape really looks like puffy fish so it was too cute to eat but the taste was amazing I haven’t eaten such a tasty white fish actually something you might want to know when Duan is usually Duan check out time time it’s changing a little bit and has a option of the 11 a.m. but usually 10: a.m. and dinner time and breakfast is fixed or you can choose in this look you have to make a reservation for this time so you might want to make a schedule like uh walk to the beach and take the bus and eat and one fun of traveling in Japan is that purchasing the suben and usually there are lot a lots of local products from the region and I love this hug Mis soup they have the hug C too but I’m came with backpack this time and probably it will be completely crashed by the time I go home so I got this mile soup and hug is also known for the summer tangent so they have to Dy summer tangent it says Yamaguchi special Hood so it might be not just H all over yam they might say this I say that this is from H company and now let’s check out the hotel and start the side seeing in Hai it’s a very nice wayer today so I have to go to the other end of yamaguch perfecture today but I have morning time so I’d like to see huggi as much as possible and again hugi has a very beautiful scenary there are lots of things to see like a nice old streets and temples many of the sites are related to the m isan Revolution that I talked about earlier so if you are interested in the history it will be more interesting to Vis those sites if you are not that interested in it maybe it’s good to just walk on the street or visit some Temple it’s very quiet it’s Friday today but there’s nobody on the street there are many cities that are preserve edop style town in Japan but sometimes I see the photo on the brocher of the town or the Instagram is everything the preserved area is very small and I felt like if I go there I felt like I came there to make make sure what I saw on the Instagram was right there I mean what I saw on the picture is everything in huggi the tral scener is continuing in vast area the scenary of HGI is strictly controlled by regulations and this is one of the last places in Japan that you can see exactly how Town looked like in Edo period according to the monk I talked later even on the side of the load it’s not allowed to use concrete it as it’s against the policy of keeping the scenery of authentic ED Style but he also mentioned that this rule is making the cost of living in Hagi very high and young people are leaving the town of Hai this place is like a heaven so beautiful the only con is there aren’t many shops or restaurants around this sing area so there aren’t much choice of like a lunch or food so that’s something you might want to plan around antique shop but among that I found this brewerry and pudding shop and this is the hugg brewery you can drink the local beer and also pudding I cannot walk long if I drink so I asked if no alcohol beer is also from local Brewery but it are just a major brand can on a bottle they think so ICI to get the pudding set looks like a color of ocean of HGI oh this is a pudding with the image of huggi blue ocean the real ocean is really beautiful like this everything is so beautiful look how soda T put in it’s very cold and refreshing so how to put at this next ICI to see the temple outside the town to get around H Comm transportation is bus now I’m at the Hai tourist information office near the castle town and from here I’m taking the Community Bus of HGI it’s 100 yen and you can get around the hugi and it seems like this is the only way to get on hugy except Taxi this bus passes by sever TR spots such as Market by the Sea and one of the wild hated site ratory furnace this is a world hated site how is world ha sit are not about the old historic town and it’s more focused on Industrial Revolution towards the modern Japan so some of them are a little difficult to understand like why this is world haage and I arrived at the to so I just arrived with this one so next one is in 40 uh 35 minutes or this one 30 one so I just got off the bus at the to bus stop and heading to the to Temple wow this is the main gate of too Temple too Temple is established in 1691 by yoshinari Mii the third W Road of the hugi CR so it seems we can potenti trans spe here 300 Yen [Music] something must visit in the toos Temple is the 500 Stone lanterns placed in the grave of yosar Mori was the third ruler of the chos domains and also the following OD numbered rulers or even number rulers there in another temple in Hai called D sh the interesting part is there’s a t gate which is usually for a shrine and not Temple according to the temple site this is a TR of mar Temple and shine but also to show that this is a sanctuary it so peaceful and each L start to look like a person as if they a guardian of this place and when I left the main gate I saw big snake living the into the forest it’s not like I felt scared but I was amazed and felt old to the nature and tradition like I felt like I was in the story book The this to Temple was really amazing quiet peaceful place so I’m at in front of to Temple to my bus stop so originally I came from this city center and the bus went around and came here so now D to go back to city center now it’s time to leave Hagi I was going to see more spots in Hagi but within today I wanted to arrive at the other side of the Yami prefecture in Hiroshima and that takes about 4 hours at least so maybe I should leave now it’s always good to leave something I haven’t seen when I come back next time there are three bus stop that longdistance buses leave hiashi Hai station hugi Bus Center and made in gaka where I took the bus to too Temple I checked the timetable and it seems the bus to Yamaguchi City is leaving soon so I walk to the Hai bus center to see if I can catch it and the bus just came in if you like to go directly to the shansen station it’s faster to take the bus to Shin Yamaguchi station the bus went through the Deep mountain regions and entered Yamaguchi City where the prefecture capital of Yamaguchi prefecture is recently New York Times in roduced this Yamaguchi City as one of the top destination to visit in the world in 2024 and that was this Yamaguchi City after looking into it a temple which is the most major spot of this Yamaguchi City is under construction so I said to skip here this time and come back in the future from Yamaguchi station I took local train of J Yamaguchi line to shui station and I change to sine to iwak I take this train to the last stop of Iwakuni which takes about 2 hours you can go much faster if you take shinkansen but it cost more and also I was curious how the area look like the train goes by to Inland sea and I could see ocean time to time it’s a little more industrialized on S side but still I could see lots of different scenery along the set indan sea I was a little tired after 2 hours of local train but fortunately it wasn’t a very busy train the next stop is thank you please watch your step than here thank you for using Jr we will soon be making a brief stop atun terminal please take your trash home with you please watch your step thank you from Iwakuni station I saw a bus to Kino Bridge so I jumped on the bus the bus arrived at iak beautiful Bridge Kingo Bridge so I took IUN bus so I took a bus from Iwakuni station and arrived at King Tao Bridge bus stop so the video has been long so I like to finish for today thank you for watching in the next weekend video I’d like to explore Iwakuni and MIMA in Hiroshima which is right next to Iwakuni have a great trip to Japan have a great week until the next video

  1. Perfect as always, and now I am going to watch it 😊 I like the hotel, white sand beach and temple ❤

  2. Wow! What a beautiful place! Adding it to the list of places to visit when in Japan. Thanks for sharing… love the outfit change idea 😂

  3. Thank you for introducing us to another amazing location. I probably need more time in japan to get there since trains are limited. I'm looking forward to the video on Iwakuni, too!

  4. A beautiful video of Hagi. I loved seeing the Toko temple. I have friends in Iwakuni so hopefully can visit them one day. Looking forward to your next video. Arigato, Kengo-San!👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼💕😎🌺🍍

  5. Looks like a nice peaceful place to enjoy nature. And not crowded!
8:24 Congratulations on a perfect quick change of clothes 👍😆

  6. That hotel where you stayed at looks really beautiful – right on the beach, so peaceful, and the food looks so tasty ! I went to Hagi on my first trip to Japan, and from there on to Tsuwano and Matsue in Shimane prefecture. I stayed in the 3 places for 2 nights each, and really enjoyed being the only western tourist in those places. It was a stark contrast to the other places I visited on my first trip to Japan (Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, Hiroshima and Miyajima).

  7. Absolutely gorgeous scenery, I will definitely have to add this to a future trip! Maybe not a summer trip though 😅

  8. Kengo-San,

Another awesome video! I feel like there are a lot of underappreciated towns and cities in the south of Honshu and Kyushu.

On my next trip I plan to focus more on these before heading back up to the north and maybe Hokkaido in the trip after that.

  9. I love these rural areas, i will try to do more of those on my next trip instead of big cities!

  10. Thanks for this great video. I like such areas without tourist much more than all big cities.

  11. Thank you very much Ken San for your sharing. I really appriciate your work. Not any youtuber sharing this the beauty of Hagi to us ❤🙏

  12. visiting Japan again in November of this year… so this is a great video of the new adventure for us.

  13. Thank you very much. I am always looking for quiet beautiful places to escape the stress and crowds. This is a very useful information. I subscribed to your channel.

  15. That looks so beautiful! I’m looking forward to visiting Japan again in 2025 😊.

  16. Hello again my friend, thank you for this tour of Hagi. Its been 20 years since I was there but it brought back great memories! I did a day trip with my brother who was working and living in Tokuyama in Yamaguchi prefecture, driving across the mountains and valleys to Hagi. A great way to see some fantastic scenery. Cant wait to see the next episode around Hiroshima. Cheers mate

  17. I really miss West part of Japan, I want to go back there and your video is very inspiring, provides clear information and descriptions of the tourist attractions you visited, I am very motivated and want to travel to the places you visited. Even though my leg condition is not normal now, I think I can do it, thanks for your hard work お疲れ様でした😊

  18. 8:44 Did you say this is pufferfish sashimi? As somebody who doesn't eat seafood or raw meat, it's basically the stuff out of a horror movie for me 😅

  19. Thank you for sharing this! Have pinned these locations on my google map, will try to find time to go there. Next trip is still my new favourite tohoku but want to plan a kita Kyushu and yamaguchi trip!

Hagi is a really good alternate to kyoto, kanazawa but is definitely very unknown to 99% of the tourists, really need more promotion to go to this area!

  20. been here in November 2022…..this is really a beautiful small town….got here because of Japanese samurai history….there are a lot of authentic old samurai residences here…the samurai castle town is worth exploring…..but I must also say this town is very lonely…not much people around even during the rush hours…there's also no night life here…but this is still very worth visiting especially if you're looking for a very interesting small town to explore in the Japanese countryside

  21. What would one do during a major earthquake or if a Tsunami hits a rural/coastal area like this? Is it survivable? Worried about visiting.

  22. Thanks! Your video prompted us to visit Hagi. It was beautiful and charming. One of the highlights of our trip. I hope it does not become too popular with tourists, as that might ruin its charm.❤

  23. Hagi looks amazing. What a beautiful place. I have Hagi on my list of places to visit for my trip next year and your video has definitely made me want to see it for myself.

  24. My ex wife originates from Hagi City, it is a lovely place, lots of history and very calm nature. That hotel looked amazing, there is also an amazing place to visit when in season ‘Mt. Kasayama Camellia Grove’.

  25. Thank you for sharing, this video is so helpful. I guess this is where people can go to experience authentic Japanese traditional culture without the crowds. I hope Hagi’s traditional architecture will be protected well and long despite the economic challenges.
