Japan Off the Beaten Path: From Ine to Kanazawa

We arrived in Ine at night, a tiny fishing village by the sea. The reflections on the water welcomed us. We spent the night here, eager to explore at sunrise. Life here still revolves around the rhythm of fishing. Ine is famous for its funaya, the traditional boat houses built on the water. Strolling through its quiet streets felt like stepping back in time. The contrast between the sea and the mountains makes the scenery magical. We truly enjoyed the peace and quiet this place had to offer. After enjoying Ine, we headed to Tekefu Knife Village. This place is renowned for its traditional Japanese knife-making. We visited the boutique first. They have a variety of products and affordable prices. Each knife reflects centuries of inherited craftsmanship Watching steel being shaped before our eyes was fascinating. The artisans work with incredible precision. A true example of Japanese dedication and pride. From there, we continued our journey to Komatsu. Our destination was the Forest of Wisdom, in Hiyo-machi. Once inside, you instantly feel peace and harmony with nature. We walked among Hiyou cedar trees and beautiful moss. The poems of Japans National Anthem mention “moss” as a symbol of Japanese culture. Hiyou’s Moss Garden has earned a reputation as Japan’s leading garden in terms of moss (bryophyte) variety. A perfect spot to slow down and reflect. After this experience, we moved on to Kanazawa. Our first stop was the Oyama Shrine, with its unique blend of Western and Japanese design. Its architecture felt both traditional and surprising. From there, we headed to Kanazawa Market. Here we tried some delicious pork buns, soft and flavorful. The perfect snack to recharge before continuing. Next, we made our way to the castle grounds. The garden, ponds, and open spaces created a calm oasis in the heart of the city. Then we explored the Kanazawa Castle, surrounded by massive stone walls. Walking through its gates and corridors felt like traveling back in time. Visiting the castle is completely free. You should definitely give it a try if you’re passing by. As sunset approached, we drove to Chirihama Beach. A truly special place, where you can drive and park right on the sand. The sky, the sea, and the sand created a magical scene. We enjoyed a stunning sunset painted in vivid colors. The perfect ending to a day full of discoveries and unforgettable moments. Thank you for watching. Until next time!”
