250914 崖観音 大福寺へ行ってきました。

It’s been a while since I last visited Chiba Prefecture. This time, I visited Daifukuji Temple, which houses the Kannon Hall (commonly known as Cliff Kannon) halfway up a steep mountain in Tateyama City, Chiba Prefecture. It was quiet, as it was just after the opening time for worship services. The Kannon Hall is built on the cliffs of Mt. Funagata. I don’t know why it was built on a cliff, but its stage-like design is impressive. Tateyama Bay is visible right before my eyes. The weather was fine. The clouds were beautiful. This is the shortest staircase. There are other, more gentle staircases. At one point, falling rocks prevented worship from being seen at the Kannon Hall, but a temporary rockfall protection roof has now been installed, allowing worshippers to continue. The view from the Kannon Hall is beautiful. Depending on the weather, it seems possible to see Izu Oshima. The donated ceiling painting is said to focus on plants from Minami Boso. I paid my respects to the rock-carved Buddha statue at the back of the temple. Finally, I received a goshuin stamp and a guided tour of the temple at the donation office.
